If you look on google the last update from Sony Ericsson will be 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
Sent from my R800i using XDA App

as long as the manufacturer provides updates then you wont be stuck on one version. as far as i know (i'm probably wrong), there have been 4 different versions of the current 2.3.4 software released for the r800i.
if you go down the modding route, then as long as the more gifted members and developers on this forum keep producing roms and other software, the possibilities are endless
tom

OK. Thanks...

Just curious, how long do previous iphone models get the latest iOS update when a new iphone comes out? Is it same day or shortly after?
I'm glad to see Google is closing the time between a Nexus device launch and past device getting the latest Android update.

Older IOS devices get it on the same day, or a couple of days before the new Iphone is released.
For Example IOS5 came out on Oct 12 this year and the Iphone 4S wasn't released until Oct 14..
its easy when they only have one or two other architectures to worry about. with the ns theres at least 3 i think
That's a good idea for an internal test. Can't wait!

well i tried my little ace up my sleeve. downgraded back to 2.3.4 stock prerooted, to see if i would get and no go lol. it just prompted me for gingerbread 2.3.7 updating. worth a shot i might try this everyday.
Not that it will likely matter for you but even your phone was first in line for the ota up to ics, you would almost certainly get the ota update up to 2.3.7 if you're sprint and 2.3.6 for gsm. prior to ota notification for 4.0
So if you're going to do revert to stock and hope you're first to get the ota thing, make sure it is actually the latest stock.
This just makes me all the more eager to get the ota on my phone.

alright...so once i flash the stock rom, will it be able to catch ota updates? or do i need to revert stock recovery too? finally what about root? should i unroot it to get the OTA?
And there is no employees edition of the phone. The limited edition phone ( battery cover) is not a "employees edition"
but i knw this one is the early model which was givn to employees
That's true. You will always get the next in line OTA. I remember that's how it was on my Nexus One.

You get the OTA only on stock,non-rooted, out-of-the-box rom.
False. It does not matter if you're rooted. Or if custom recovery
Ima wait till its rooted and flashable

ICS

heres the thing
i have prime 2.1.1
idont have system software update in my settings
when ICS comes out tommorow
how can i update?
Wait for a custom rom? custom roms are nearly always better anyway.
Sent from my HTC Desire Z using xda premium
hi
you have to wait for the new prime version which includes the ICS-Update!
Other way you have to switch back to stock and you will lose root!
give the devs a litte time so they can make a nice ICS rom

This^ or for the time being you can just switch to an ICS ROM until your ROM of choice gets updated.
Most likely first ICS build will just be a Rooted/Deodexed version of the ICS update which should be up within the hour of the update being released if all goes as planed.
And of course the update may not even be coming out today and the person who runs the ASUS Singapore Facebook account could be getting fired. , but let's try and be positive!

I don't think that this is going to happen as usually there is some sort of a "leak" for this to happen and with the update being pushed (supposedly) today then I think we will have to wait for someone to get it and post the update to the forums.
so your saying that a new custom rom will be out tommorow?
another question any thoughts if iwill have to wipe
i cant really manage to do it
i got lots of important stuff on my TF and the sd cards its almost 60GB
Could it be that the Singapore update won't drop until the 12th, 13th who other areas get it tomorrow?

Yep i'm using the new baseband as well =P
I tried flashing as soon as I got the update but I wasn't able to flash, I got some errors I founded .42 GB firmware and I'll probably downgrade because WiFi not working bothers me a lot
Fail
I got my Arc S in the Beginning of May and was so excited about official ICS WOOOOOHOOOOO...
First step was the Update---still excited
Then I woke up, ICS Update was one big fail for me.
Let me explain :
I don´t play many games, but I still have 2 favourites : Defender II and Triple Town
Defender II gives me big lags after short time of playing and Triple Town doesnt even run at all (Touchactions are not recognized)
Of course some of you might say, that´s not a big deal but to me, it is..
Also, even more important, Videorecording in HD is still laggy sometimes and serious, nothing gets me more angry than a Scene I wanted to keep but got laggy....
So I unlocked Bootloader and flashed 2.3.4. I found somewhere here, removed all crapapps after rooting and using Doomkernel V22, Phone runs perfect, even underclocked to 1GHz
The Devs here are doing good jobs (really good) but still I havn´t found any ROM that made me as happy as the Gingerbread...
I really hope there will be a real good ICS one day..
I have an Arc S on custom ROM Arc AOKP build 39.
Arc S on CM9 FXP 125.
I have had my Arc S since April, I purchased it as I kenw it would be upgraded to ICS. When the official ICS came out I was not impressed it was very slow, so I rooted my phone and removed all the bloatware and was pretty happy. After a few weeks I couldn't help but unlock the bootloader and I am now running on ArcKnight RC3 Kernal and JJ's Hybrid ROM 3.1 i'm sure I will keep changing as I like seeing how new Kernals and Roms work.
I have Arc S and still in GingerBread and waiting for next sony update.
Reason: no other beats the GingerBread's smoothness.
Arc S on BB72 - Stock ICS 4.04 w/ CWM - Arconium 4
Xperia Arc S ........still on Gingerbread.
Tried all the roms but Gb is still the best off them
Oh... As i can see, theres kinda few users of arc s here, and i cant see anyone posting that he is using a stock based custom rom.

ATT SG3 and CM9 Question

Hello... first time poster here... if i install CM9 ( when stable is released), will i still be able to receive OTA updates..?? Im so interested in a more stock android experience, but i also want to keep OTA updates. Currently i am rooted but havent flashed a rom or nothing, and i still get the OTA updates. Thanks in advance to anyone that answers.

Short answer: no. If you're running CM you're on a completely different build than the version of Android/Touchwiz that ships on the device.
Longer answer: Both CM and the build that ships with the device are obviously both derived from the same source: Google's Android. So if Google fixes security problems in Android, then theoretically the CM guys should be packaging those into the next update of CM. If there is a security flaw specifically in the AT&T version of the phone, then it was probably caused by something custom that AT&T built into Android, in which case you won't get that update - but you wouldn't need it because you wouldn't have had the custom code that caused the flaw in the first place. Does that make sense?
Like eagle said, when on a custom ROM you are on your own and you don'T depend on Samsung or your carrier for updates, you depend on the developpers of the ROM. So you will probably get JB faster with CyanogenMod than with Samsung so it doesn't matter.

What about 4.4.4 for z2

As even the Z have the 4.4.4 Android,i think Sony is shaming their prev. "Flagship" phone , with all the deffects, gaps, uncetered camera ,etc. Now even models 1 year older then ours has the new update, incl Z1 , z1 compact, and the tablets...i am more and more dissapointed from that phone each day, changed it 2 times cos of deffects..now somebody will say its because of my problems with the deffects i am crying like a MOD EDIT Please do not swear. But guys come on, all the prevoius models got it allready and we even dont hear rumors about it..
Sent from my D6503 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
Which features of 4.4 are you desperate for? I'd rather that any updates where done well rather than rushed just so we can have it. As for the defects, gaps don't matter as long as device integrity is maintained I haven't seen anyone suggesting they are affecting this? Uncentered camera again as long as it doesn’t affect function I couldn't care less.
I'll go out on a limb here and say maybe Sony's just waiting for Android 5 to update?

They most probably plan to update the z2 to the same 4.4.4 software on the recently unveiled z3 army. That's why it's later than the 4.4.4 software released for older devices. They wanted to showcase it with the z3. Hopefully it'll hit the z2 soon.
That would be bad news for Z1 and z1 compact users because the software on the z3 has improvements for the camera.

There will be but don't expect to much.
Deodex your firmware and install superuser MOD.
That's two mins task and you won't even notice you deodex it...
What you'll see is great new MODs and APPs.
On older device there were "problems" when you were deodexing firmware.
Simply, without dex files for system to cache process, many devices become slower after deodexing.
All that doesn't apply on devices strong like Z1/Z2/Z3.
So there's no reason for you not to deodex your firmware.
Especially if you are already rooted...
Why to stop there?

You're right, there is no, but I was happy with stock rom, only rooted cause its 10 secs job and to install some stuff that needs root,
I'm not very good when it comes to android, especially when it comes to deodexing and odexing. I know what's what, but there's lots of questions, for example which recovery should I use, can I delete recovery later on if I plan on selling it in favor to z3, and I suppose once I get deodex rom, ota updates are out of the question, right?

Once you root device you can forget on OTA (at least on stock, existenz have its own OTA).
It's very simple to deodex ROM.
Just check which firmware are you using.
Download deodex patch for that firmware and flash it from recovery.
Your data will stay intact and nothing will change (of course, don't wipe data from recovery after or before flashing deodex patch, cache and dalvik wipe is what you need to do after flashing.
You can remove recovery, root and restore dex files, that's not problem.
Simply flash stock ftf using flashtool or if you have problems with your device flash stock firmware using PC Companion (repair function) and everything will be "stock"
After that, take your sdCard out of device and delete XZDR folder and files (there's remover, tool from NUT, to remove recovery but you can do that this way as well)
If your carrier will check your device for warranty purpose, they could reject your device because it's rooted as well so deodexing isn't something that could make more problems.
It's up to you but there's only one way to use, system (signed), Z3 apps and/or apps from other devices.

Thank you very much mate, I forgot that I can have recovery even if I have locked bootloader, its uncommon for me since I've never have had Sony device before, I guess it's easy later to restore everything later if I need to claim warranty, but just one thing,
few days ago I did software repair via PC companion, after that I had root BUT w/o permission to write, just to read system files, how's that possible?
Thanks again for the big answer,
regards mate!
I'd prefer getting Android 5, rather than getting 4.4.4 update for my Z2. So, if I'm waiting to get Android 5, it's all good.

Did you updated supersu binaries?
