Bought it the other day, updated to 4.0.4 last night.. Still on testing period, i only have 7 days for unit replacement for factory defects.. As testing period pass, i'll unlocke bootloader...
Im really excited...

you can flash firmwares without wiping the DATA
Yep i'm using the new baseband as well =P
I tried flashing as soon as I got the update but I wasn't able to flash, I got some errors I founded .42 GB firmware and I'll probably downgrade because WiFi not working bothers me a lot
Fail
I got my Arc S in the Beginning of May and was so excited about official ICS WOOOOOHOOOOO...
First step was the Update---still excited
Then I woke up, ICS Update was one big fail for me.
Let me explain :
I don´t play many games, but I still have 2 favourites : Defender II and Triple Town
Defender II gives me big lags after short time of playing and Triple Town doesnt even run at all (Touchactions are not recognized)
Of course some of you might say, that´s not a big deal but to me, it is..
Also, even more important, Videorecording in HD is still laggy sometimes and serious, nothing gets me more angry than a Scene I wanted to keep but got laggy....
So I unlocked Bootloader and flashed 2.3.4. I found somewhere here, removed all crapapps after rooting and using Doomkernel V22, Phone runs perfect, even underclocked to 1GHz
The Devs here are doing good jobs (really good) but still I havn´t found any ROM that made me as happy as the Gingerbread...
I really hope there will be a real good ICS one day..
I have an Arc S on custom ROM Arc AOKP build 39.
Arc S on CM9 FXP 125.
I have had my Arc S since April, I purchased it as I kenw it would be upgraded to ICS. When the official ICS came out I was not impressed it was very slow, so I rooted my phone and removed all the bloatware and was pretty happy. After a few weeks I couldn't help but unlock the bootloader and I am now running on ArcKnight RC3 Kernal and JJ's Hybrid ROM 3.1 i'm sure I will keep changing as I like seeing how new Kernals and Roms work.
I have Arc S and still in GingerBread and waiting for next sony update.
Reason: no other beats the GingerBread's smoothness.
Arc S on BB72 - Stock ICS 4.04 w/ CWM - Arconium 4
Xperia Arc S ........still on Gingerbread.
Tried all the roms but Gb is still the best off them
Oh... As i can see, theres kinda few users of arc s here, and i cant see anyone posting that he is using a stock based custom rom.

did you come from a clean wipe ?
if you want to revert back to GB its as easy as 1,2,3
1, Download GB firmware
2, Load all files into ODIN
3, Connect phone in DL mode and hit start
Obviously you haven't truly experienced ice cream sandwich for the note until you have used the rom in the following link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1662802 give it a try and I guarantee your view will change. Galaxy Note = phone + tablet(best of both worlds)
Paranoid Android rom = phone ui + tablet ui(best of both worlds)
Having bought a German Note I initially upgraded to stock LPY for ICS. It was dreadful. Twice I returned to Gingerbread for safety and stupidly gave LPY another chance after a short while. Each time it never failed to be crap. It didn't matter whether or not I wiped stuff - it was just rubbish.
I did try an AOKP ROm for a bit, but that had too many problems for my tastes so a few days ago I bit the bullet and went for the stock LQ2 ROM for the UK (which is where I live) and quite simply I have not had the problems which seemed to plague LPY. So, I'm on a stock ICS ROM, rooted, and quite happy with performance and battery life. Mind you, time will tell if it stays that way, but so far so good.

I just wanted to say I bought this device two days ago and I am so very happy with it.
I had a Xperia Pro and a Galaxy S but decided to go "big"
And I am glad I did.
The only small downside is that it seems to be so hard to root this one. I have not found any easy way as with for example Xperia Pro.
I am very pleased with the stock rom but I really need to get those bloatware out...but I dont want to flash a rom just to get root.
Well anyway, happy for bying this and I hope it continues to be as fast and nice.
So to others thinking of buying, just do it.....

hey flash speedmod kernel via pc odin and you will have a root access and a yellow triangle, wich can be removed via remove yellow traingle if you are on ics.
ps I recomment kingdroid 4.3 rom and speedmod kernel.
after you got clockworkmod recovery flash abyss 4.2 reboot recovery run jbdroid script flash kingdroid 4.3 rom with cf root kernel after aht flash speedmod k3-7
if you have any question use the search!!!!!!!!!
If u r on ICS, DO NOT DO A FACTORY RESET/WIPE. Note ICS kernwl has a brick bug.
Speedmod kernels and a few other custom kernels have a work around to the bruck bug.
afaik :cyclops:
keep device on gb
ics is risky if you don't want to brick your note than keep it on gb
or follow safe method as prescribed by many dev and user and upgrade it to ics
i have purchased mine yesterday and i will keep it on gb till emmc-bug solution come out :fingers-crossed:
You can root ur Note using the guide here by Dr Ketan @ http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1424997
As long as you do not perform a factory wipe/reset, ICS is quite good.
I myself have fallen victim to the eMMC brick bug. I got it repaired under warranty. Rooted as per Doc K's guide and flashed SpeedMod kernel. I am on it since about a month now. Running smooth.
Remember always... any time you want to wipe, flash a stock GB rom, perform a wipe and ttgen upgrade to ICS. That is 100% safe. DIRECT WIPE FROM ICS IS 100% DANGEROUS.
Thank you all for so good advices. I am on GB and plan to stay there until a safe version comes from Samsung or any of all excellent developers here.
Oh I am used to search no worries.
Probably I will end up with flashing rom soon. But I feel this phone is magic.
Besides the browser everything is perfect!!

Well, FWIW ICS to JB (4.1.2 or 4.2.2) on my other tabs makes a marked improvement in the overall speed and fluidity of the tabs. Whether or not the same will hold true when (or if) the 7.7 gets stock 4.1.2 or 4.2.2 remains to be seen.

The "BrickBug" has had me spooked also. But, after reading as much as I could from other sources, flashing CWM alleviates that issue. That said I still would shy away from Factory Reset from ICS nevertheless. Or proceed with caution.
Granted I could be wrong but am always on the lookout for a definitive "fix".

Me too I use a stock firmware or if I use a custom firmware, I always replace the custom "safe kernel" with the stock kernel from Samsung.
Sorry to repeat it again, but I never got any issues with Samsung stock kernel whether with my G-Note or my GT P6800.
The sole time I got a brickbug was with a custom firmware on my G-Note as I forgot to replace the custom "safe kernel (from PhilZ)" with a Samsung stock one... ^^
Once my G-Note got repaired, I reflashed it with the same ICS custom firmware but that time with a stock kernel and I never got brickbug again, despite numerous Factory Resets.
My G-Note has now a completely stock Jelly Bean 4.1.2 from Samsung and so far so good no issue at all !!!
My GT P6800 is still with a stock ICS 4.0.4 from Samsung and I don't plan to use any custom firmware since it works fine with a very good battery life time.
The only change I made both on my G-Note or P6800 was to root them.

Pretty close to the same here. Am under the distinct impression that rooting and using CWM also offers as much "protection" from brickbug as can be had at the moment. Running LQ1 right now but was considering flashing LQ2. Looking for a bit better battery.

I 100% agree with you, CM might be the latest and greatest of all Roms but in my opinion if all the features are not working as they should why should I even bother. I know it's a choice whether to install or not and I appreciate what the CM devs have done for our community but I just don't like how they have approached our tab, if you are not going to have a 100% working rom then don't put it out there.:banghead: Sorry for my little rant. I am just patiently waiting for JB if it ever comes out if not I am quite happy with ICS.

Don't want to thread jack, but I am in the same boat as you (awesome cousin /,,/) and the lagging is more than I expected it would. Curious to know if updating to 4.1.1 would be better or maybe a lite ROM without all the bloatware until the final version of 4.1.1 firmware is released by Samsung.

The stock JB ROM is as good or better than anything out there. No need to root unless you have a reason. Rooting will prevent your getting future OTA updates. Removing so called bloat (one man's bloat is another's useful app) doesn't speed up anything. That's a placebo leftover from OG phones when they had precious little memory.
Non of the non-stock ROMs retain full function depending which model you have. For instance, CM10 loses IR blaster and may cause bluetooth issues. I recommend the stock JB, its great, although I never found the 4.0.4 ICS ROM to have much lag at all.

No. You could wait untill Samsung decides to push an OTA update. I don't know when that is going to happen for your country.
At the moment only Hong Kong, Taiwan and the United Kingdom received 4.1.1.

I had try almost all ROM for GTab 2 7 and believe me the stable version is Stock ICS 4.0.4
The JB 4.1.1 UI looks ugly to me and lag when in the transition from apps drawer to home screen. In ICS 4.0.4 everything smooth and fluid. I tried several custom ROM like CM10, CM9, KWBR, AOKP etc but the UI doesn't seems to please me.
So now I flash to Malaysia ICS 4.0.4 ROM, rooted and happy with that. Looking forward for JB 4.1.2 to resolve the lag issue.

You know what helps with "lagginess" ???
Not expecting a tablet to have instantaneous response with its little bitty CPU and small RAM. People should have realistic expectations for a $200 device.

What it needs is a custom kernel, but unfortunatelly there isn't one available yet for stock Jb rom, at least not for 10.1.
Or is there?
to help with the lag on the stock rom ( or any rom) you can change the windows and transition animations scale to .5x ...
under SETTINGS...DEVELOPER OPTIONS ...
Thanks, it does seem to make it little more responsive, but still not smooth.
