Im thinking of going to arc s from arc. Im aware of the differences but is it a good move?
Sent from my Xperia Arc using Tapatalk
Honest answer is no. But it's up to you know know the difference between them i.e. only it's Overclocked slightly different processor.
I own an arc s. If you do not love to overclock, arc s is your choice. It is damn fast by default. But if you are able to play a bit with your arc, you can create your own arc s by yourself.
Summoned by my Heretic Tab
The only reason to be honest im thinking of doing this move is because though I can clock my arc I havent got credits to do so on setool or omnius. And cant afford them. My arc is sim locked and therefore no fastboot etc etc. Then again ive been playing with the arc s. Ive had the privellege of taking it home with me from my friends phone shop. Ive had it for a week now been playing gta3 and its so much better. I read that 3g speed on the s is better than arc. Arc s 14.4mbps and 7.4 mbps on arc. I read this on gsmarena.

Yeah, but it's hard to get speeds higher than 7.2Mbit/s in real life.

I use Arc and my wife gets Arc S. I have to say Arc S is much faster than Arc.

I own the Arc S too and yes it has a better (different!) CPU and better inet, but like Flo95 said, 7,2 MBit/s is even hard to get.
In my country is about 4 or 5 MBit/s standard (don't know how it is anywhere else ).
I'd wait for a future phone like Nozomi or something else.

Nope, the CPU isn't actually different. The MSM8255 and 8255T are the same chipset, just overclocked. Theoretically, the MSM8255 in the Arc can be overclocked to a MSM8255T with no problems.
no you dont have to goto arc s...
just stay with arc, the only differences is arc s processor are overclocked, the same chipset.
i have used my friends arc s for 2 weeks, i can tell that there is no differences.
so just wait for a better Sony 2012 flagship phone with dual core processor.
I would recommend to wait for the next generation phone as well. Although I'm perfectly happy with my arc s over all, the quality of sound transmitted _from_ my phone is actually worse then on my old x10...when network reception is low, that is. And as the others have already pointed out, the difference is not that great between the phones anyway.

Everyone saying it's an overclocked arc.
Is it really? Or is it an upgraded chipset?
Surely if you actually overclock the arc s with a custom kernel then you can get better results than with an overclocked arc.
Its a different chipset

That's correct.
I don't know, maybe because there isn't much difference or the names are nearly the same (MSM8255 & MSM8255T).
And it's obvious that the Arc S has a different CPU, otherwise the CPU would also named MSM8255.
I understand what everyone is saying but when I play hd games my experience is better on the s. However I am also gettin the phone virtually next to nothing

It is a different chipset in the sense that it passed a higher and stricter quality control. Not all Arc phones can go to 1,4 but ALL Arc S phones are completely stable at 1,4.
So it's different and better and Arc S probably can be overclocked much more than the Arc with custom kernels.

I was on the x10 mini forums and i saw that they have stuff like overclocking and android 2.3.3 thats crazy and i wonder why we cant have it? They got crazy stuff there on the stock kernel? ! How come we cant have it?
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
We do have Android 2.3.3 and over clocking.
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
Ok yeah but on a custom kernel that is not yet stable and no 2.3.3 fully stable yet ?

Overclocking is only giving them 1100 quadrant scores and 736mh.
I am getting 1300 on WB's CM6 rom with stock kernel.
There scores are due to their hardware like the processor if we would have overclocking we would surely get way more theñ 1300 my point is how come they managed to do it and.we. cant?

I'm confused. We can. there is a custom kernel that'll let you overclock to 1100mhz. you're free to use it. The mini has had more progress in this department because it has different hardware as far as i'm aware and is more easily modified. correct me if i'm wrong with that.
The x10 mini (pro) is easier to modify because it has diffrent hardware that is easy to modify.
Ohh i though the x10 and the mini would be the same since the only difference between them is the speed the camera and the screen size ;p anyways thanks got my answer

I'd pay the extra for an x10 in a heartbeat
My main requirement is gaming, music and good application support.Which will be better of the two.
I wouldn't get the play. From what I've read, and from what people have told me, the screen is terrible...that being said, go with another android phone! The samsung galaxy s2 is one of the highest rated phones I've ever seen. reviews have been insanely good

I have the play in the MediaMarkt tested and the screen was actually very good.
But I would much prefer the GalaxyS2, because its a very cool phone.

I think in term of quantity you're definitly right but what about the quality, on that way the last (survivors) X10 devs are pretty good, get friends who are changing roms almost every week on others phones because nothing is really "perfect".

What can a dual or quad core phone do that our X10 can't? Better gaming and HD video on a 4 inch screen??? Wow, but not a reason to spend hundreds of dollars... for me anyway.

Here is a clear explanation why we can overclock GPU http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=710850
I am a little upset that the xperia E comes with official Android 4.1 JB having less specs then the xperia play and they get jellybean! not ICS straight to jellybean! both specs are identical but the xperia E has a lower Gpu and internal memory AND STILL! I understand that sony said that they wanted to leave this phone as a gaming phone but at least make it a optional update on your own risk or something

I think the problem is even if Sony released JB for our phone game development would still be slowing down like it has been lately. Plus all the older XPO releases like asphalt 6 and star battalion wouldn't work. Not like a lot of people play those. I still do. Is it possible to utilize some aspects of the xperia e's firmware?

thats why i say at your own risk, for people who might not want to game in the xperia play
Wouldn't be the first time a weaker phone got a newer FW than Xperia Play... we've already established that the reason Xperia Play didn't get ICS/JB was because it would throw the software compatibility way off.
If you want a good example of how bad it would've been, just look at all Evo V owners who are in an absolute fury because the vast majority of 3D games were made to operate under 2.3. The way I see it, Sony did the smart thing by opting for a more stable ecosystem.
The thing is that a lot of app developers are abandoning gb, and making apps for 4.0+, even Google them self, example, chrome browser a great browser but not for gb.
I'd even settle for a decent official ics from Sony, I mean the developers here are doing a better job than them

The Xperia Play has a Scorpion S2 CPU, it's old. The Xperia E is a Cortex A5. Scorpion might be faster in raw flops but the A5 has more features. Snapdragon is quite poor by today's standards and the Xperia E will probably beat it in many ways.

and i see what you mean by the differences, i seen some benchmarks
I am going to admit many people know more about the inner workings of hardware. But I am sure that with the xperia e's 320x240 resolution also helps in benchmarks as it's not having to push as much in terms of resolution. Although I know that is only one aspect of a bigger picture.
