I will be here for 1-2 years bought x10 a month ago...
I feel bad i must have bought a nexus s or galaxy s...
I'm with Sahib. I got my x10 in March this year, so I'm here until at least March 2013.
Don't know what I'll get next, I think I'll see what Sony Ericsson are offering, and if I don't like it I'll probably go with a nexus. But who knows, I've got a lot of time to think about it between now and then.

100 versions of diff stock roms is hardly interesting lol
Of the three android phones I've owned, x10 had the least development and is dwindling quickly
Moved to SGS and it is the best thing I have done
loads of roms, kernels you can flash while using the phone and speed !!!
Sorry Sony the X10 crashed and burnt

I think in term of quantity you're definitly right but what about the quality, on that way the last (survivors) X10 devs are pretty good, get friends who are changing roms almost every week on others phones because nothing is really "perfect".

there are plenty of roms on here like that too
Moved to HTC evo 3d and loving it. Still miss my x10 but it is really nice to just be able to run stock with no real need to root or flash roms because I'm actually happy with the software and the hardware.
Don't get me wrong I miss my x10 enough to still check the forums everyday just to see what's happening

What can a dual or quad core phone do that our X10 can't? Better gaming and HD video on a 4 inch screen??? Wow, but not a reason to spend hundreds of dollars... for me anyway.
My X10a will keep me happy until my next free upgrade.

If you have an upgrade now, why not use it on something worthwhile? I would get the sgs2 if I had one for sure
I agree though I wouldn't run out and buy one out of contract.
I actually have an incredible s now and it blows the x10 out of the water! I never realized the difference until I tried a different phone.

My main requirement is gaming, music and good application support.Which will be better of the two.
I wouldn't get the play. From what I've read, and from what people have told me, the screen is terrible...that being said, go with another android phone! The samsung galaxy s2 is one of the highest rated phones I've ever seen. reviews have been insanely good

I have the play in the MediaMarkt tested and the screen was actually very good.
But I would much prefer the GalaxyS2, because its a very cool phone.

I'm liking this better than the 3D for sure if it does come with a 4" screen. I will have my Shift for two more years though... Maybe one if I like what's released next summer, though I will only be a 9 year vet of Sprint next summer so I would still have to pay more than I want. I don't see myself ever owning a device with a screen larger than 4" if I can help it.
Looks good, but no kb = not for me.
Keyboard doesn't really matter to me, the Shift was more about size. I think I could deal with a 4" screen

+1 too big a step unfortunantley. In the era of 2011 you can't have single core proccesors anymore lol. Only thing I could think to make up for it is if it was the new snapdragon Krait proccessors which are appearently 75% more battery effecient
Honestly, I could do with a bit less processing power if it got me a better battery life. To me, battery life is the biggest downfall of Android phones. I just got a 1900mAh battery (slim, no cover needed), we'll see if it makes much difference...fingers crossed.

I wouldn't call a 1.2gHz phone crap. It won't be as fast as a dual core, like the 3D, but it will be faster than the shift, and have a larger, higher resolution display, plus Sense 3.0 from the start (I'm assuming this last part, since the resolution is 960x580, or whatever the 3D is). Plus, more ram, and possibly more rom than the shift.
It's nice to see "mid-range" phones with some decent specs, and not really far off from the halo phones. Depending on when I make my next phone purchase, I may get the Galaxy S2. I would really like my next phone to have a Super AMOLED screen.
Its time to purchase a new phone and i am looking at the Samsung Galaxy SII. Can someone please outline whats good/bad about the device and how the development is going? I can see that there is a lot of stock ROMs avaliable for it but will there be ROMs like CM7 and Sense, as it will take a while to port ROMs to its processor as it has to be done from scratch
I'd really recommend you to wait for a bit

sgs2 is awesome.... The screen is vivid, it's dual core so it will be more future proof and because it is the biggest selling android phone of all time there will be tons of development. Also samsung is very well known to support development and custom roms, hiring the cyanogen mod developer, etc...

hahah I did it in like 2 minutes, it was no harder than flashtool...
There is one program that s-off and roots your device, just like flashtool.
The reason x10 is so easy is because we don't have an unlocked bootloader, so we use flashtool for everything.
On htc phones you can flash full custom roms which include kernel, and you can also flash different radios.
It is literally no more difficult, and much better imo. Say if you break your usb port, you aren't screwed like you are with an x10.
I learned everything in about 5 minutes, read one small tutorial.

i suggest you wait and see the upcoming new releases of phones by other brands. Samsung Galaxy SII seems quite uninteresting. i feel x10 could do better in general. I think he was referring to the fast pace in which the mobile industry is going. Like, you know...ant years or somethin' like it... ha
On the other hand...
yes, i bought my x8 (the black one) last year in june after my old one got stolen, and i was short on cash, so i bought it with the promotion they had at 3 (three), it was 49 euros without any subscription...planned to change it after a while, but it was ok, and with all the possibilities the android world brings, didn't really feel the need to change it.

Hello all X8 users, I have something to say to you.
I have been on the X8 section and testing rom when Ratch and Doixanh almost was the only devs, and we was happy about the "Sense" roms with just basic functionality.
But in August 2011 weve got roms wirh working camera and everything.
But now everything is changed, we have more less developers which is quite sad, because more users are buting new phones right now.
Some of the best devs like Doixanh has left us, bu there is still hope from devs like nAa.
But now its time for me to leave you, and buy Arc S In about 20-25 days.
I will always remember all the fun I had with my X8 and all the great roms and modules.
I think Its quite sad to leave you, but the X8 has just to bad size of the ram for me.
But overall X8 is quite a nice phone, and I think it has the best speaker ever. My buddy has Sensation XL and he thinks X8 has better sound then hes XE.
I like the screen too, really good resolution, but I hate that I have Synaptic.
But how many of you are left, and when are you gonna buy something new?

x8 is a great device started by running android 1.6(donut) and it's still working with android 2.3(gingerbread) maybe fully function with v4(ICS) in next few months. What's a great device! But it was built for v1.6(cpu 600mhz but dev make it be able to overclock to more than 700mhz, ram 256 but 184 accessible) so i have to say that newer device can run smoother as they were built for newer version.
