[IDEA] Port HTC MSM7X30 .35 kernel? - Xperia Play General

I have been looking around recently, and noticed we only have the .32 kernel, which is made for froyo.
CyanogenMod team are apparently upgrading all MSM7x30 devices to the 3.0 kernel.
I was wondering for in the meantime, some HTC phones are MSM7x30 (DHD) and have .35 kernel source, would it be possible to port a kernel?

Just do it up big guy I'll test it out when your ready

Won't we end up with no touch pads and xloud without the libs for the .35 (that don't exist)

Touchpads is ROM related, the whole touchpad goes under a generic multi-touch mouse pad if I remember correctly.
About this, I tried but cant compile, some major porting needs to be done and I just don't have the time.

Kernel for gingersense? Custom?

I have been reading around and i can't seem to find any kernel for the latest gingerbread leak the one to hit XDA about 3 or 4 days back, i wondered if anyone knew of such kernel?
For example the OC/UV BUZZ kernel i used before in the android revolution HD 3.1 ROM but apparently now only stock kernels could be used with the new 4.0 Beta 2 ROM (thanks mike) but the question i am asking is can it be done? what is stopping devs from creating a new kernel for this? i can't i haven't a clue what i'm doing when it comes to coding and such ill hold my hands up i'm new.
Why there are no kernels:
1) The source isn't out.
2) There are no drivers.
There is now

i9000 ICS runing on 2.6.35.X kernel

Hi,
I'm looking for ICS ROM for i9000 running on kernel 2.6.35.7 or 2.6.35.14. Also interested about kernel sources. If you know ROM like this just tell me. Thanks a lot.
I don't think this is possible, because kernel 2.6.35 is missing some features from the upstream kernel which are required by ICS. Also I'm wondering, why you would prefer an older kernel over a newer one?
I need kernel 2.6.35 for different device. Want to use i9000 kernel as a base.
U won't find any with lower than 2.8.x+ kernel.

There is no 2.8 kernel. Last 2.6 kernel was 2.6.39, after that came 3.0. But 3.0 is not really a major update, it's essentially 2.6.40, but Linus thought the numbers get too high so he named it 3.0 instead of 2.6.40.

[DISCUSSION] Android 2.3.5 for Stock: Better?

Lukenda has claimed at least twice that this particular version of Gingerbread (2.3.5) runs better on stock kernel... His opinion.
So, come on Lukenda, tell us more.
Anyone who has toyed with this version is more than welcomed to chime in.
One particular thing worth noticing is that no stable release of CyanogenMod is based around 2.3.5.
MiniCM7 2.0.7 is based on 2.3.5 and it's stable
yes i did and i based it on a long time of using them.
there is a stable 2.3.5 rease by nAa
,there are few minor bugs but i dont mind them.
try to use minicm7 2.0.7 and some 2.3.7
rom such as gdx.
make a comparison between those two and test battery speed in apps such as YouTube and internet browsers.
All games I have been able on 7 rom were playable on .5 rom.
Please test for your self and report.

Let me repeat myself. there's no stable release of CyanogenMod based around 2.3.5: http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/CyanogenMod_7_Changelog
Stable release, as in final release, as opposed to a nightly release or a release candidate.

*Sigh*
I was really hoping for something better than that. Your claim that the 2.3.5 is indeed better is totally unfounded.
The only thing you are left with after that kind of testing is that for your use MiniCM is better than other ROMs and the hypothesis that it might be because of the android version.
You could have at the very least get your hands on GingerDX v015 to test your claim.
And if anyone is interested in actual testing, a proper way would be to compare GingerDX v015 to GingerDX v016.
To take it a step further comparing XGin 5.4 to XGin 6.0 and kuyaDROID v3.2.175 to v.4.3.233 (which I think was the next available release) would be needed.
I still have the original nAa's GB (2.3.5 for stock kernel) rom, so if anybody is interested in testing that rom, i'll ask nAa if i could reupload it on MF if nobody finds a working link .

Where to start? can I find the moto driver source on github?

I have a couple of atrix 4gs and I have some experience with writing windows drivers fwiw. I would like to help out in development, but I'm not sure where to start. Ive noticed there are some 4.+ roms but they all have driver issues. Are the atrix 4.0 drivers from moto in a repo like github?
Thanks
Nick

Well...Im no dev but I think the atrix need a 3.+ kernel port...and there is no sources for that...the great devs we have are working on LG sources rigth now...

Yes...I know...but has a lot of bugs and the battery life it terrible....
I think its better to get a new kernel with sources than drivers...but its what I think.
Right now the devs are working on it...so let hope for it!...
Cheers! :good:
Linux 3.0 kernel is just 2.6.40 renumbered to celebrate the 20th anniversary of Linux. Epinter, I believe it was, said before there is not much difference between them.
Please contact mvniekerk and join him in the kernel port.

Good to hear that someone is working on a new kernel(Jb 4.3)for XPlay, maybe it will be easy to modify it to work on Neo L. Or maybe not

Neo L has the same MoBo as the Xperia Play ( zeus ), so it shouldn't be difficult to make it boots on Neo L too.
And lol, android 4.3 isn't a kernel, but a software :/
A kernel is in the "middle", between the software and the hardware

well all the xperia play roms work well on neo l without changing anything
but they have little problems like alwayas landscape and inverted camera but they can fixed easily

You shouldnt be getting those errors, which kernel sources are you trying to use? .32 or .26
Im woking with 2 in 1. I mean ROM with kernel build. If i build kernel only. I wont even get those errors. Im doing this because when i build rom with kernel. It should be compitable with the rom
