Hello everyone, this might already have been answered, if so please point me there. Anyway, I have a new Acer Iconia Tab a500, and love it, of course. However I seem to be having a problem with my MicroSD Card. I have a 16gb MicroSD card and have formatted it, then inserted it into my tablet, however it does not seem to be working. It shows up that is is mounted, but when I open up 'App to SD' it does not display any external memory. Also if I place a video or picture file on my SD card and attempt to read it, it does not work. Any suggestions?

Acer/Honeycomb, does not support the phone app "apps2Sd". That's for Android version 2x. (phones and a couple of cheap tabs)

Also if you can't read from the card take it out put the card in a cell phone and format it with that. Sounds like you have older version of honeycomb and there are issues reading cards formatted with windows on some brand and file system types.
If the problem continues try a fifteenth brand SD card or posture specs including rom version of your tablet here. This will spark better help.
If you are running 3.2 and above rom most of the above does not apply

If you are worried about game data, there is an app, GL to sd. This is for Gameloft apps. And it works on HC3.2+
Other than that, the ph apps for Gingerbread, when it concerns App2SD or the others, aren't going to work on HC.
Maybe with ICS.
Thanks for the info thus far, I am running Honeycomb 3.2.1, so I am as up to date as possible, I believe? I did not know about the app not supporting Honeycomb. I will try the formatting in my cell phone and see if that helps!

I would stay away from GL to SD, I put it on my a500 and it brought my system to a crawl. It took me a while before I figured out was was slowing my tab down so much and finally narrowed it down to GL to SD. Transferred all my game data back to internal memory and uninstalled GL to SD and my tab is screaming fast again.
no way

Hey guys (and maybe girls?),
After about 8-9 of fighting with my phone, I've managed to install android on my HTC HD2. Now, I got this rom/version (I'm newb so.. I'll be more than glad for some explainations) I've found *HERE*.
So, the ptoblems are: SD Card is mounted to read-only mode, I can't take a picture, can't listen to music, run apps and so on.. after about 10min since booting android its becoming unmounted. What eles, thephone is super laggy, I can't run apps and games, and it's driving me crazy because I bought the phone for android and the only good OP worked on it is WM..
So, do I need the regular DESIRE build? or stick with DESIRE HD ones?
If there's a better build that what I've brought there, can I have the thread or download?
Another question, if I'm getting new SD Card (I got only 8GB for now, I need atleast 16GB for all my music, movies and stuff), I just need to copy all the things on the old one and everything will work properly? (after I'll switch a build ofcourse).
(Btw, sorry about grammer mistakes, it's morning over here ;])
THANKS!!
Up. Need it fast =\
Come on guys, I need it badly, I got school tomorrow and I got phone that's bearly works..
i have the same MDJ version and working quite good for me propably you need to format again your sd card
What class is your SD Card?
Not sure what the issue with the build is... you should try looking through the build thread. But if you bought this phone for android, you might as well install android to your nand (internal memory) with magldr... it will be much more like a real android phone that way. Just out of curiousity, why didn't you just buy a real android phone if you just wanted android? This phone take a decent amount of work and learning to get it to run as well as a native android phone... but for the price you can get the HD2 for sometimes, it can run android pretty well... but you have to be willing to put the hours in to read the forums and learn what you're doing.
Also, this section is for sd build development, not for question threads. Threads like this should be posted in thread you got the build from, or the Q&A/General section.

All good quality class2 sd cards also work with this build without problem!! But you could also try the others with class4 or class6. I think important thing is to test the cards with which cluster size they work best with this build. I have tested formatting different SD cards with 64kb, 32kb and 16kb cluster size. For me till now this build worked best with the 16kb cluster size. With 32kb and 64kb I had Lagg and freezes.
If you want to know how it worked best for me check here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=859817&page=502 post number #5016

ptoblems with your SD Card is mounted to read-only mode.
You can do follow this to fix error:
1) Plug your SD Card to your computer by card reader
2) Open 'My Computer'
3) Right Click on the drive you want to run scandisk on and click on Properties
4) In the Properties window select the 'Tools' tab.
5) In the Error-checking section click on 'Check now' button.
6) Select from the options to customize your scan and click on 'Start' to run the scandisk.
7) Insert your SD card to your phone and run android
Greetings..
Been on android for a while.
I have app2sd on my EVO and it works great. I installed it to my iconia and I get notices saying certain apps can be moved to SD, as those apps support it, but, when you click on it, it does not appear that it works with honeycomb.
Anybody else notice this? We probably need to bug developer to make it work with external SD.
Thanks!
With 16 & 32gb models, I really don't see too much need for Apps2SD any more.
Oh, and the reason it doesn't work is probably the mount name. On devices with internal storage, the external SD card almost always has a different mount name than usual; often 'External_SD' but not always.

You've only got 2-4GB of that for apps though.
Search Link2SD on market it works with honeycomb and its free
I got my Transformer yesterday (32GB) and love it. Awesome screen and kills the Xoom! (returned my Xoom after a week).
Has there been any word if a future update will let you move content to an SD card? im aware 32GB is alot of space. Point is , im trying to see if i should invest in Tegra Games. Games are the only thing i wish i could move to SD.
What i come across in terms of answers, seam to be related to Honeycomb not built around extra storage. if thats the case, i dont see the point of having an extra 32GB of storage as an extra feature beyond just file transferring, picture look up ect.
Any info would be appreciated.
With Honeycomb you don't have to move to SD as there aren't static partitions like there were in the phone OS's. As you install more games, it will allocate more of the internal card for System Data. So you could have the whole of the internal SD card for nothing but games.
As for moving application data to the micro SD or Dock SD, this isn't supported by Honeycomb as of yet.
May have better luck email the developer and asking if they could support user specified paths for the game data.

Is it just application data or any data? I can't copy ANY files/data to SD Card, even though I thought I once was able to do so...
File copying problems
I just cannot get files from my external SD to my transformer, just keeps bombing during the copying process at about 14mb.. is this a known issue?
After updating to 6.0 now anytime I access the SD card from any app, it's very slow. Used to be instantaneous now it takes anywhere from a couple to 10 seconds when accessing any files on the card. This happens in any of the Android menus like selecting a file for ringtone or in ES File Explorer or QuickPic.
Also, the SD card got renamed to something weird like D020-8E84 instead of sdcard1. I removed the card, reformatted in the phone and put my files back on and it's the same...slow. I tried to rename the card but I can't.
Anyone else have this issue? I sure hope this isn't Google's way of forcing adaptive storage on us.
Files are mostly media...photos, videos, pdfs, music.
Not rooted yet.
Not having the same issue, try wiping out your phone.
Sent from my Moto X Pure.
Well, the problem has gone away this morning.
My suspicion is that maybe Android was re-indexing the card (not even sure if it does that) since the name of the card changed with the update to 6.0. It's a 128GB card that is mostly full so there are a lot of files and may just have taken a little while for it to all get indexed (for lack of a better term).

Any flash storage that is nearly full will have write amplification issues. This will consequently lead to a longer read latency and thus a slower card overall.

That may be so. But before the update to 6.0 the card was lightening fast with no delay at all. It was only after the 6.0 update that the card slowed to a crawl. And now, the next morning after the update the card is back to full speed with no noticeable latency. So, I don't agree with your supposition.
What card are you using? Is it formatted as internal storage?

Potable storage. It's a Sony 128GB Class 10 UHS-1 Micro SDXC (SRG1UY2A/TQ).

I haven't noticed any issues with my SD card other than the weird name change. I too have tried to change the name with no luck & am glad to see I'm not the only person. I do not like the name change from sdcard1, sdext, extsd, etc. to this screwed one of 2019-9450 or whatever. Mainly because when in Titanium Backup, if I try to extract from a nandroid, it says no TWRP backup files can be found on the SD card. I haven't tried moving a nandroid backup file to the internal storage yet but, that's my next step.

You are not the only one buddy. Same boat here.
I ran out of storage for new apps a long time ago. My device is kind of useless for new things because there is no internal memory for INSTALLING APPS, even after removing 75% of my apps which includes system apps. There is just no more space. It still has 2gb of internal memory left BUT THAT CANNOT BE USED FOR INSTALLING APPS, stupidly. There are 8GB of total internal storage space.
I have plenty of storage for data. Just not for apps. I have a 32GB SD card as well.
App2SD apps, I maximized all possible data to be moved.
Apps with data larger than 20MB I just deleted the whole apps.
Still no more space.
Additionally, it means I CANNOT use this tablet for things like games, or for storing map data from gopilot live as a backup in case my phone dies. Which is VERY limiting. Especially because I used to like to play games on it but I had to remove all the games to make way for utilities.
Thus I DESPERATELY NEED to be able to install UNLIMITED NUMBER OF APPS using the SD card for internal storage.
I tried the vold.fstab method HERE, but it did not work.
PLEASE HELP!!! THANK YOU!!!
p.s. I WOULD BUY A NEW TABLET WITH MORE MEMORY BUT NO 7.0 INCH TABLET EXISTS THAT IS BETTER THAN THE TAB 4 BECAUSE THEY ARE ALL MAKING HUGE 8.0 and 8.4 INCH TABLETS THAT ARE TOO BIG SO I AM STUCK WITH THE TAB 4.

i'd say you just need test different apps all over and over akd different methods from XDA, i have on my phone sdcard as internal memory but same method wont work on tab 4..... you should use folder mount to move appdata to sdcard and use it from there, it helps if you have big app data on internal sd card.

No I tried that already. It does Not work because of the error "this has been limited due to kitkat so you're not authorized" or something to that extent. It's not an error, it is a limitation of the kitkat (and all subsequent) operating systems. Google did that on purpose to try to force people to have to upgrade their phone.

Cyanogenmod isn't an extreme solution, it runs better than touchwiz IMO and it takes up significantly less memory, which is a fact. It's more like saying, "I don't like Windows," and the reply being, "You should try out Ubuntu," especially since both cyanogenmod, like Ubuntu, is completely free

Waiting for a real solution to the actual problem.
uh if youre not ready to install different rom i guess theres no solution
I'm having the exact same dilemma. In my case, not going to CM (or another rom/firmware/kernel..) is due to the fact that my children use the tablets, so the KidsMode needs to work. I've looked at that one from Zoodles, and its rubbish compared to the Samsung one available on their Galaxy devices. My original post never had any reply other than my own update.
By the way: I'm still searching for a solution to this... If only Samsung would/could release Marshmallow on this tablet, the Adoptable Storage option could be used...
Now, if you can just hold your breath...
lol I know right...?
Full disclosure: I've given up hope of finding a solution that will work with (essentially) stock 4.4.2, so now I'm looking into how to get the TouchWiz framework to run on a rom/kernel that DOES support support an external/internal swap.
Of course, that does nothing to help the OP, but IMO the best solution has already been presented to him: Install a custom ROM that supports what he needs. It's still the best solution since there don't seem to be any TouchWiz-dependent apps he needs.
Years later still no solution

If you are willing to root your device you can use Apps2sd to actually move(link) whole app into sd card.
You'll need to repartition your sd card to do it, but there are good guides to do it.
EDIT:
Oh it's renamed app2sd but here is the link https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=in.co.pricealert.apps2sd&hl=fi for it
you can also try link2sd app

I don't know about how limited it is, but it's completly different than native android moving apps to sd. Linking is like actually increasing your devices internal memory(not really but somethign like that). Also it's easiest/(propably)best way to get more memory for apps.
