Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has tried to install Liquendo Susan or any other tts engine on the fire? I use it with moon reader plus on my Infuse 4g running 2.2 Froyo and it works for epub books at least. I really dont want to go to all the trouble of rooting this thing to find out it wont work. I dont think I will be keeping it if I cant get it to read books to me. The android stuff is cool and all but my phone does all that stuff.
Its my own damn fault for asuming Amazon would inculde a TTS engine like thier previous versions. Really sad about this because I like it otherwise. I have rooted my phone so I think I can root the device but dont know if its worth all the risk and trouble if it wont run a TTS engine.
Thanks for your help, love the forum keep up the good work.
Doc
have'nt tried this and can't remember to to have read about it in the forum
you can be the first and share your experience
can't think why it should not work
I installed Liquendo Susan and the test works fine... but there is no way to activate it for the device as a default.
To the best of my knowledge, TTS does not work on the Kindle app.

Thanks Guys,
Here is the thing. I have this setup working on my Infuse 4g. The kindle app isnt used for reading I use Moon+ Reader Pro with TTS option. I have to convert my kindle books to .epub in calibre but it works. I can get decent TTS reading on my phone. Let me perhaps be a bit more clear on my question.
IF I root the phone and install Liquendo Suasan TTS engine, Moon+ Reader Pro (both of which I would have to repurchase and download from the Android market) and then used Moon+ Reader to read .epub converstions that I moved on and off the Fire via.. Dropbox lets say.. do you think other than surrendering almost 1GB of storage for this setup, would that be a functional work around on the Fire? I know it works on 2.2 Froyo but that is on a phone that came with PICO installed as a default engine.
Apparently the demo version of Liquendo worked, there is part of the answer, any thoughts on the rest?
Thanks,
DOC
ONLY the demo worked within the app itself. NOTHING else would use Liquendo Suasan. I could find no way to activate it as the TTS. Unless you can do that, it won't do what you are asking.
BTW, I didn't need to repurchase it. I just side loaded it from my Droid Incredible which I purchased it on.

One thing I missed when I had the Apple iPad was Zinio App. I had a few nice magazine subscriptions on there, such as PC Mag, Cars & Driver, etc....
Thanks to people over @ XDA, they were able to port an Android app version..
FYI

You need to install all 3 APK.
Installed all three. Just force closes for me.
Which one of the 3 did you launch? All you need to launch is Reader Hub. Works for me. I am reading my magazine on it as I am typing this.
Works for me. Now I just need some magazines

Thanks for the tip - just installed the 3 apks and works fine for me!
Was able to log in to my Zinio account and access my library. Looks really great on the Xoom, better than on my iPad, I think.
So what's the deal, why won't Zinio just release this into the market already??

From what I gathered, they are working on Android App at the moment. There is a link on their site to notify you once it is release
droid x force close
Installed all 3 apks On my droid x but zinio wont work it only force closes (android version 2.2.1 not rooted) any advise?
I used the files from my old Streak 7 to install Zinio on my new A500. It is two files, they may need to be in /system/app & will of course need the permissions set to 644.
Zinio
Zinio Settings Provider
Occasionally it spouts off about some error, but it works 100%.
Hey is anyone able to pull the original kindle fire reader so that it works on ics? The one that's on the market is driving me nuts(spacings are all messed up). I tried titanium backup but when you restore on ics it wont open unless you update it.
The letters don't get as large on the kindle reader from the market either

I've been wondering this, too. Stock kindle reader has better options and readability. Would love if someone could figure out how to get it to work with ICS.
Mantano reader for Android
Well...I would say use the: Mantano reader for Android
It is well made, also reads epubs!
This has been answered before. The stock reader is intertwined with the stock launcher, so getting it to work on anything else will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
When I had a rooted stock rom with ADW Launcher, I had to switch to the default launcher any time I wanted to change books, because that feature is not in the app.

I go with Adobe Reader for my PDF books and Comic Rack for my cbr and cbz comics
Hey everybody,
Just a heads up. The latest update to the Kobo app fixed whatever problem it was having with the Nook Simple Touch, and now you can read and browse the store on the device. Searching still crashes it. Their version of Whispersync also works as well.
Just letting you know, because I personally have bought most of my eBooks before from Kobo, so this is a nice touch.
*edit, I've done a video here if anyone is interested http://youtu.be/_mfY9jSdbtw
So, I used SuperOneClick on my Kindle Fire and it worked great. I've installed GoLauncherEx and I'm up and running mostly fine. What I've found strange is that, while I was able to find certain apps when searching on Google Play and install them on my Atrix, I can't seem to find all the apps when I do the same on my Kindle Fire. A couple examples of this are: Google Maps and Any.Do. Even when I directly search for these by typing in their exact name they're not on the list that shows. I have tried to install apps that 'aren't compatible with this device', but I guess I'm not surprised seeing the KF is not a full blown smart phone. Still, Google Maps and my Any.Do (a task list program) shouldn't give me trouble. Is there some setting that I'm missing? Has anyone run into this also? Thanks!

You need to edit your build.prop
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
Yup. Just need to edit your device ID on your build.prop. Nice and simple.
Google just may be your best friend
If you don't want to edit the build prop flashing a new rom like gede or modaco are already modified to look like galaxy nexus and galaxy tab respectively. Then you can get maps because the kindle does not have built in GPS so it won't show up. Though those roms allow network gps. Hope this helps

SuperOneClick? Which version are you running? I thought SuperOneClick only worked on 6.3 and 6.2.1

version
Currently running v6.3.1. So, I guess I just have a stock rooted KF. Correct me if I'm wrong, thanks!
Before I posted here I watched the noob movie and I also looked on google for a solution. There are many different posts and I wasn't sure which would be good to use. Realistically, from what I found (even after searching on this forum too), many people are just saying to 'edit your build.prop'. That's great but edit it to what? Yeah, I understand that I need to change the manufacturer and model, but what are some actual examples so I get the format/syntax correct? Maybe I need to learn to use search better, but I'm surprised there's not a sticky for build.prop examples and the communities responses to those examples so we can build on what others have experimented with (and big thanks to those people!).
I'm also interested in installing CM7 seeing that seems to be a good way to go also. But there's lots of reading to begin to understand what's going on with all that. It's in process...
Thanks.
updated ROM. Done and done.
Took the leap and installed the most recent build of gedeROM. Took just a few minutes and all was done. POOF! All my problems got solved, at least those Android related. Nice work, Devs!
Thanks for the help!
Hello, so managed to bag a Nook Read Touch Simple for GBP30 and have got it rooted and market installed etc.
Also have been able to successfully install the Kobo app and download a book from it. However when I try to read a book from the kobo app, I get the swirly Kobo thing, the screen goes black and then it pops back to the Kobo app menu.
Anything I can do to get it to work?
Thanks in advance!!

You need an older version of the Kobo app. I'm successfully using 2.7.617 from an old personal backup from one of my previous Android phones.

You need an old version of Google Play Books too; 1.5.4 is working for me, and, IIRC, the latest version that works.

Thanks again, tried that version and an earlier version, however I just keep on getting the swirly wheel on the books. Some book so work if I enable "original content" or something like that, but the quality of text isn't the best.

I can't post URLs because I'm too new, but if you do a Youtube search for "Updated Kobo App Now Works on Nook Simple Touch March 2012" there is a video with a working Kobo app link. You may have to expand the first comment to see it. I've installed it on my Nook Touch and it works fine. I don't think it's a modded apk, just an earlier version, so you may be able to get it elsewhere.
