(request) original reader for ics? - Kindle Fire General

Hey is anyone able to pull the original kindle fire reader so that it works on ics? The one that's on the market is driving me nuts(spacings are all messed up). I tried titanium backup but when you restore on ics it wont open unless you update it.

The letters don't get as large on the kindle reader from the market either

I've been wondering this, too. Stock kindle reader has better options and readability. Would love if someone could figure out how to get it to work with ICS.

Mantano reader for Android
Well...I would say use the: Mantano reader for Android
It is well made, also reads epubs!

This has been answered before. The stock reader is intertwined with the stock launcher, so getting it to work on anything else will be extremely difficult, if not impossible.
When I had a rooted stock rom with ADW Launcher, I had to switch to the default launcher any time I wanted to change books, because that feature is not in the app.

I go with Adobe Reader for my PDF books and Comic Rack for my cbr and cbz comics

zinio reader keeps crashing in 3.1..says that it needs to be updated.

I just got the 3.1 update and so I was checking out the Zinio reader, but every time I click on a book, it says that this version of z reader is not supported then it crashes.
anybody got any good ideas?

I'm looking for an answer to this too. What's worse is that when you download the official Zinio Reader app that was pushed out to the market today, it does not replace the one that comes with 3.1. You end up having both sitting in your app drawer. Talk about annoying...
Yeah. The one that can with the update doesn't actually work for me.
[FIX ] What I did was go back into the app market and search for zinio. It seems that its an almost different application with a slightly different icon and better looking layout. Try searching in your marketplace and download that one instead.

Same here asking to be updated.
If you're rooted, delete the one with the 3.1 update and download the market version. I use Titanium backup to delete the old app
It's asking for an update because... there's actually an update. Just install the latest one from the Market. It works and looks better than the one that came with 3.1 (yeah...).
So just to confirm:
To update, just simply download the latest Zinio reader from Android Market, but this will NOT replace the included Zinio Reader that comes with the TF.
I HAVE to delete the included Zinio Reader manually via Titanium Backup Root?
If I install custom ROM, will the included Zinio Reader be removed by default?

CM7 and the kindle app

Hey,
I installed CM7 on my KF according to the dev section. I installed the kindle app from the market as I obviously lost it in the process, sadly I can't seem to be able to load my own books on the fire (I am trying to read .mobi and .epub files).
Has anyone been able to accomplish this?

Sort of a glitchy workaround, but the Kindle app running in your launcher (CM7) seems to be pointing to an active read in your authentic KindleFire launcher. I was frustrated to see that the app was unresponsive until adding a link to the Fire launcher, selecting the literature of choice from that interface, and (if you so choose) only then would the Kindle app within CM7 activate within that book.
For now, the hot-route back to the Fire launcher works very well for accessing all of the books, etc; as well as the Prime video library.
Cheers!
I guess I answered my own question. You have to side-load the books to Android/data/com.amazon.kindle
However the app doesn't read epub files, but reads .mobi.
This kindle app version is not even close to be as good as the stock one.
I tried to install KindleForOtter from the 6.2 update but the kindle app won't even load then.
Although Aldiko is decent I don't really want to use it because it's not as good.
Any idea?
Also, does anyone know what kind of Fonts the stock kindle app uses?
THanks

I guess link may be a little misleading; I simply added the Amazon launcher to my taskbar for quickly getting back & forth between the two environments (stock & ADW).
HE is not on CM7. HE is stock, using an alternate launcher.
I am having the same issue. on CM7, I can not get the kindle app to even run.
Yeah that's what I figured.
Could someone please post the kindle stock apk? If its not called KindleForOtter.apk
http://www.mediafire.com/?az8obq77c7a7z39 this one?
Yeah so I guess this is the one and only. Sadly it doesnt work.
I just tested the method above with a stock/alternate launcher as you mentioned above. After exiting the alt launcher and using stock to first open a book; it was then accessible in the alt launcher via the Kindle Reader App... it loses the functionality of perusing multiple books, but as I said, seems to be a temporary workaround.

I believe you're still talking about an alternative launcher side-loaded with the stock fire.
I was talking about CM7 which I installed and wiped the stock fire launcher. Since it doesn't exist anymore, I can't side load it.
I was unable to get the Kindle Fire Kindle app to work. It would display the splash screen, and then go back to CM7 launcher....
I just went back to stock. If I cant use the Prime Amazon Video, use the Kindle App and get my loaner books, or get netflix to run smoothly with decent quality and synced Video and sound, I will wait until it can...

Yeah I understood you.
Could you please pull it out com.amazon.kindle.otter and upload it? Also tell me which folder it was in (full path).
Cheers
KindleforOtter.apk is located in the /system/app with permissions set to RW-R--R--. The ATVAndroidClient.ap is also in the /system/app directory with permissions set to RW-R--R--
The KindleforOtter.apk can be found here: http://www.mediafire.com/?az8obq77c7a7z39

Well thats progress at least. If I tried to launch my kindle app before, it wouldn't do anything, now it launches and crashes immediately. The amazon video app works but when I start watching a video com.amazon.avod crashes.
I'm not a coder so I'm not sure how to deal with processes and I couldn't find a folder for that but it seems that if I can side load com.amazon.avod and com.amazon.kindle.otter I could get further. I just don't know how to do it.
I think that version of kindle is a stripped down version without a library browser to complement the kindle fire launcher interface. The book selection was all done in the stock launcher. I remember once i had a book open I didnt need to use the stock launcher to open the kindle app.

[Q] Text To Speech on Fire?

Hey guys,
I was wondering if anyone has tried to install Liquendo Susan or any other tts engine on the fire? I use it with moon reader plus on my Infuse 4g running 2.2 Froyo and it works for epub books at least. I really dont want to go to all the trouble of rooting this thing to find out it wont work. I dont think I will be keeping it if I cant get it to read books to me. The android stuff is cool and all but my phone does all that stuff.
Its my own damn fault for asuming Amazon would inculde a TTS engine like thier previous versions. Really sad about this because I like it otherwise. I have rooted my phone so I think I can root the device but dont know if its worth all the risk and trouble if it wont run a TTS engine.
Thanks for your help, love the forum keep up the good work.
Doc
have'nt tried this and can't remember to to have read about it in the forum
you can be the first and share your experience
can't think why it should not work
I installed Liquendo Susan and the test works fine... but there is no way to activate it for the device as a default.
To the best of my knowledge, TTS does not work on the Kindle app.

Thanks Guys,
Here is the thing. I have this setup working on my Infuse 4g. The kindle app isnt used for reading I use Moon+ Reader Pro with TTS option. I have to convert my kindle books to .epub in calibre but it works. I can get decent TTS reading on my phone. Let me perhaps be a bit more clear on my question.
IF I root the phone and install Liquendo Suasan TTS engine, Moon+ Reader Pro (both of which I would have to repurchase and download from the Android market) and then used Moon+ Reader to read .epub converstions that I moved on and off the Fire via.. Dropbox lets say.. do you think other than surrendering almost 1GB of storage for this setup, would that be a functional work around on the Fire? I know it works on 2.2 Froyo but that is on a phone that came with PICO installed as a default engine.
Apparently the demo version of Liquendo worked, there is part of the answer, any thoughts on the rest?
Thanks,
DOC
ONLY the demo worked within the app itself. NOTHING else would use Liquendo Suasan. I could find no way to activate it as the TTS. Unless you can do that, it won't do what you are asking.
BTW, I didn't need to repurchase it. I just side loaded it from my Droid Incredible which I purchased it on.

[Q] Rooted KF But No Sync for Books?

i'm rooted with an excellent HellFire ROM. I'm still on 6.2.2 using the Kindle app as my reader.
I can't seem to get my Kindle Fire Kindle reader app to sync my reading positions with my other devices. In other words, I've read to page 100 on my GNex, and my Transformer Prime, but when I try and sync to the same point in the same book on my KF, it says I'm already at the furthest point. It is showing up on the Amazon web site and I can download/buy books from Amazon using my KF.
Just wondering if anyone else has this problem? Is it because I'm not on 6.3? Also, what triggers an OTA update for the Kindle Fire?
Thanks
Just a thought... Have you deregistered it and re-registered it?

Books purchased from places other than Amazon

I have recently bought some ebooks (.mobi) from another retailer (monergism.com) and they won't show up in the native kindle fire reader. I placed them in the books folder, yet no go. They do work when I place them on my phone and use the kindle for android app. Any ideas?
If your on stock rom download calibre on your computer and you can set that up to load your books on your kindle

I saw the OP on the list and was going to say the same thing. I LOVE me some Calibre I use it on my KF and my Galaxy Tab. I really like how it see's the Kindle devices properly and you can send books directly to them and it keeps track of what is on your device. My GT I just have to dump out to a directory and copy over to the device. I also how Calibre is for win/mac/linux great options. Here is a link http://calibre-ebook.com/
You can email the mobile files to your kindle email address and it will automatically add them to your library. I've done it with a dozen or so books and it works wonderfully.
