I see that there are a multitude of threads on this forum about best ROM/Kernel combos, but I am looking at it from the standpoint of which gives the best battery life. Performance is not an issue, all I am trying to do is get excellent battery life. I would like to keep SenseUI if possible, and an undervolted Kernel is a must. I have seen some information on Ava-Froyo V9 and was wondering if anyone has tried it and do they like it? Any information would be much appreciated.
I loved Baked Snack 1.7, and at one pointing got 21 hours of battery life, I am using myn's Rom now andking it so far, both use sense

Go to the kernel testing thread. In there you'll find which is most efficient, the idle energy draw is probably the most important stat. FWIW, CM w/ Snap 9.5 has the lowest energy draw and so probably the best battery life -- it's what I use.

if you like sense,
ROM - evio 1.4 or baked snack 1.8
kernel - kings #6 bfs or baked snack #6 (reads #2 in software info)
+ 2 to looking at the kernel comparison site someone put up.
To me it is completely biased though because what works great for one person and their EVO does NOT mean it will work as great for YOU. I would first find a ROM that you like and then experiment with trying each different kernel. Remember to wipe the caches before you switch kernels and give them a few days to balance out and see what they are like.
Personally I get the best battery life with CM 6.0 Final + Kings CFS.
Then there is the whole CFS vs BFS debate, again TRY IT FOR YOURSELF. My phone eats battery like crazy and it will drain in a few hours, with moderate use, and if I switch to CFS I get about 40% more battery life.
So what I'm trying to tell you is that take everyone's recommendations with a grain of salt and try every kernel and BFS/CFS and see what works best for you!
Good luck man
I'm getting ~36 hours off Fresh 3.2. I tried going to 3.3 and tried Myn's but neither came close. Not sure what the difference is, but I'm good with it.
Thanks for the replies guys, it's been a big help!
In your guys' opinions (those of you who are still on DI01) what is the best kernel/rom combo for this phone? Both for efficiency and battery life.
Thanks!
I was using the stock kernel and JT's SuperClean (I think it was .4), and was getting a solid 48 hours on a charge and the phone was super fast with no lag whatsoever. If I hadn't upgraded to DJ05/DL09, I'd still be using exactly that.

+1 to this.
This is what I'm still running. Tried a stupidfast kernel, but didn't see as good battery life, so I switched back to the stock kernel.
Awesome, I'll try this... the slow boot animations annoy the hell out of me though... but I'll deal
Ok guys. I have to admit, I was about to give up on CM7 due to battery issues and what seemed to be memory leaks progressively making my phone lag more and more throughout the day. I have found something some of you may not be aware of and I wanted to share this amazingly helpful kernel with you.
Using x99, Scary, and stock kernels regardless of governor I seemed to maybe get 8 hours of battery life with moderate to heavy use. I am proud to say, using bcnice20's kernel I have had my phone on for 9 hours with 60% battery life today. This is incredible, even with lighter use on the other kernels I had NOWHERE near this amount of battery left.
Most of you may not have seen this kernel because it isn't posted. (as far as im aware) Let me help you out. First, go into your Market and download Kernel Manager. There is a lite version in there that is free. If you have an extra buck or two donate to the developer for making a neat app where you can download kernels in a convenient place by downloading the pro version.
What you will be downloading is called bcblend SIO tinyRCU kernel. I have not tried VR tinyRCU kernel yet. Not sure what the differences are, if someone could elaborate that'd be appreciated.
Regardless, I find the sweet spot for this to be at 245MHz min and 1GHz max on Interactive governor to work really well. The phone does not seem to get laggier throughout the day and consistently performs well, snappy, and just way better than the other kernels. (No offense to x99 and Scary, I appreciate all you've done!)
Give it a try and let me know if you all have similar results! I have heard that AOSP gets less battery than Sense ROMs from people on this very forum, and this may be the kernel to put that little debate to rest.
Oh, and be sure you have the latest CM7. I am on 7.0.2.1 trying this out.
Thanks ima try this out

I owe it to you for having me download kernel manager.
Well with CM7 and the x99 kernal seems to give me the best battery life with the SMARTASS governor. About 20 hours with medium to heavy use.

There is no link at this point, you have to do it via kernel manager. I'd upload it but I don't want to without bc's permission.
I haven't use any other "controllers" other than the one built into cm7... can I use that or is there a prefered one to change governers and such. Thanks!

Since CM7 lets you change governors right in its settings I uninstalled SetCPU for now, in theory I would think it would cause more battery drain but I don't know for sure. But yes I just changed it right in CM7. I changed the governor to interactive and set the max cpu frequency to 1036MHz.
Gonna try this out. I love CM7 but the battery is killing me. I pray this works.
Android system & cell standby seem to be the battery use culprit. I will give this a try though but don't really think its in the kernel. Ill report back...

This kernel seems to be really good about not sucking the battery while on standby for me, that seems to be the crown jewel of it all. Right Now I am at 14 hours off the charger with 29% left.. remember I was lucky to get 8 hours most days before using this kernel.
This is off-topic, but along the same lines: which kernels gave the best battery life for Sense?

Honestly I didn't get much difference between x99 and bcnice20's 1.5GHz kernel so either of those two. Scarykernel SUV works well on Sense if your phone can boot it too.

It seems to be true. I'm def getting better battery life. I also calibrated my battery but I've done that before without any major change. So far I have 5 hours of quite a bit of use and I'm at 71% I would normally be around 55-60% by now. I wonder what the main difference is with the kernel...

I also have the calibrator apk from the market so it wipes the battery stat when im at 100%. and various other apps that deal with the speed of the sd card and what nots. Hi, let me first say sorry for this post. I know there are a million..
I do not have a Inc but my daughter does, last time I messed with it, I put CM7 rc3 on it right when rc3 was released. ever since then I have not read one word on the development of this phone. The phone runs good but battery life could be better.
Is there anything better than CM7? looking for the best battery life possible. Please suggest ROM/Kernel. sense or senseless.
Thanks,
Coming from an avid user of Sense I would say CM7, MIUI, and OMGB or OMFGB are the "best" with battery as they are stripped of Sense. If you don't get good battery life with any of those AOSP roms, kernel combo or not, there isn't much more anyone can do.
I only use Sense roms but I know if battery life & Senseless were my thing, I would have an AOSP rom. Not sure on kernels, the crowd can fill you in on their experience.
Best bet would be to flash incredikernel, and then dl incredicontrol from the market. Stick with cm7, use the underclocking app of your choice, and then use incredicontrol to lower the voltages at different frequencies...if it reboots, go one back until its stable.

I would suggest flashing the newest CM nightly. There have been some changes and kernel tweaks since rc3.
I'm on 10 1/2 hours sitting at 70%, albeit light use, but still I usually get at least a day and a half with moderate use.
I'm a big fan of Jermaine's In-Sensitive Minimalist ROM. It has by far been the fastest and best on battery life for me.
I'm on the latest cm nightly. I use incrediblekernel with aggressive voltage. I have CPU set to 128 min and 664 Max. I could last all day plus with moderate to heavy usage.

Mcsense 2.2 with tinys 8/31 kernel with smartass. Rom looks great and fantastic battery. Personally, ill never use aosp on my phone again. Never had that "great" battery life others claim. I can overclock tinys to 1.113, minimum 245, and its very stable, very fast, and i get a good 12+ hours with HEAVY use. Thats on a stock day one battery. Ive got about as old a dinc you can get, been rooted longer than i can remember, and flashed atleast 3 to 4 times most weeks. Tryin out newts new runny rom now, dont know about battery yet on it. Good luck dude.

I'll second this. In-Sensitive Minimalist takes out almost all of the bloat of Sense, but leaves in the framework and the best apps. With Tiny's modules and SetCPU you can basically get it to run for days with minimal usage and 24-30 hrs with normal usage on a 1500mAH battery, which are $10 from Amazon.com and a good deal.
If you want to stick with Sense, that's the ROM to use. Otherwise, CM is a good choice.

CyanogenMod 7 with tiamat kernel gets pretty good battery life. The kernels tend to have mor eaffect on battery life then the roms themselves.
Thanks!
And for some reason my gf's EVO is dying really fast. I mean it drains 1% every 5 mins.

Sounds like she might have 4g running all the time. Or maybe she might be updating/refreshing her background data to often. Only use 4g to down load big files or steaming vedio. Check her 4g connection and turn off or her sync rate set it to every 3 hours or more. If one or both are the culprit then she'll see a big improvement.
I run EVO Deck rom with cyanogenmod love it. And every thing works.
Hope this helps
I figured I'd chime in because you said you wanted a fully functioning ROM. CM7 and Deck had always yielded the best battery life for me with the last rev of the Savage Zen Kernel, but if you're like me and are very anal about the phrase "fully functioning" then it should be noted that the AOSP ROMs don't have 720p video recording. If that doesn't bother you than CM7 or Deck all the way.
That said i'm running TommyTomato's Classic ROM with the Freedom Agressive kernel and I'm getting 25+ hours on a charge which puts it on par with any AOSP ROM/kernel combo I've run. Might be able to get a little better on AOSP, but I'd say that's pretty damn good and it's fully functioning as in EVERYTHING works 100%.

4G is never on, Background data is unchecked, Email is set to manual sync, brightness is dimmed, no wifi. I feel as if I've done every battery saving trick in the book.
But I realized yesterday that I had SetCPU at 700mhz to save battery. I uninstalled it and the battery life wasn't dropping so rapidly. I can't say that was the issue. I'll have to run a few more test.

I'm on Tommys Classic Supermagic, running the Hard to kill battery calibration script from Zepplins thread and i'm getting the best battery life i've had on any other rom and i've used this script with about 10 different roms, from AOSP to Sense 3.0,wont run 3.5 because of bugs and no 4G,after a full charge with alot of phone calls, texts and surfing,i held a charge for 4 days,it was 67% on the second day and actually died on the forth AM.
I'd definitely do a comparison between screen-on and awake time.
If you don't know this, you can access it through Settings > About Phone > Battery Use/History/Etc. See if the bar graphs of screen-on match awake. If you see a long bar under awake, but not a matching one under screen-on, you probably have a process or app that is stuck and needs to be removed/re-installed or have it's data cleared.
Note: it's normal to have some awake time that doesn't match screen on as apps/processes still have to perform there activities even with the screen-off, however, it shouldn't be a ton.
The best app out there to study this IMO is betterbatterstats. Hope this helps! Cheers!
