Best setup for DI01 - Fascinate General

In your guys' opinions (those of you who are still on DI01) what is the best kernel/rom combo for this phone? Both for efficiency and battery life.
Thanks!

I was using the stock kernel and JT's SuperClean (I think it was .4), and was getting a solid 48 hours on a charge and the phone was super fast with no lag whatsoever. If I hadn't upgraded to DJ05/DL09, I'd still be using exactly that.

+1 to this.
This is what I'm still running. Tried a stupidfast kernel, but didn't see as good battery life, so I switched back to the stock kernel.

Awesome, I'll try this... the slow boot animations annoy the hell out of me though... but I'll deal

Can this be used on any of the Team Whiskey 2.2 ROMS e.i: Onyx 2.2 or Obsidien?

You're gonna have to post more information than just saying it runs faster and smoother....how's the battery life, and other mechanics, any bugs, how long have you been running it?
Yah....not going to flash until i know how it works, battery, benchmarks etc. thank tho
Benchmarks do not change for me. Battery life is amazing. Better than 2.1 was ever for me. 14 hours since unplugged with medium use. 65% battery left.
What settings ate you using to achiever that battery life? 35 percent battery on fourteen hours seems like the phone was on standby and you didn't touch it

haha i had the same thought because i some how loose 60% battery over night on froyo roms so if this is true that you are getting god like battery then im going to flash this puppy soon. but i need feedback from multiple people. hopefully its great!
also can this be flashed on axura froyo based off of eugenes unofficial jk2 froyo???
Yeah I probably get around 16 hours with moderate use.
***Swyped onto XDA via Vibrant***
so can this be flashed over eugenes based jk2 rom or does it HAVE to be that rom exactly?
I flashed the kernel over the flashable version of the odin JK2. No issues, no FCs, no drama. This will do until R11.
Look like it's made by barakinflorida which if im not mistaken is eugene's friend.should be pretty legit.in fact its eugene and barak's site they been workin on
Yea battery is great. But i dont like the reception . . Or is it just me,??
Flashed it over onyx rom from team
Whiskey. Works fine so far can't vouch on speed or anything yet. If you go to settings though it says kernel version is unavailable

I'd like to know this as well.
which is better onyx or obsidian ???
i am still on fusion 1.2 it is very stable for me so just wanted to know
before flashing
if you liked bionix final go with obsidian.
if you liked fusion (which is assume you do since your currently using it) then onyx is for you.
im using onyx right now and i love it. works just as good as when i was on fusion 1.2 but with the nice-ness of froyo.
but back to topic; more froyo kernels please.

is it me, or are 2.2 ROM's battery hogs?

I have tried both Eugene's and TeamWhiskey's ROM's.. Ginger Clone, OBSIDAN and ONYX. And all 3 have sucked down my battery in about 12 hours flat with me doing nothing to the phone but loading SystemPanel to monitor the CPU and battery. With all the ROM's the CPU usage has been between 3-10% while in idle. zero phone usage. I have refreshed the battery with every new ROM load.
I was previously using TeamWhiskey's 2.1 Bionix Fusion and was seeing between 1-3% CPU usage at idle and had the battery lasting well over 24 hours with minimal use(checking email, couple short phone calls)
Am I the only one having this issue?? Does anyone else use SystemPanel to monitor their CPU usage and can say what their CPU is using during idle??
Thank you for your time and any help/info you may have.
I don't use the modded versions of Froyo but Stock has awesome battery life from my experience. JL5 is looking great as well.
You or anyone else happen to know where I can find a copy of the stock 2.2 ROM/kernel?? I have an unlocked phone in Japan and it's not supported here, so I wont ever get any updates.
Yes the custom roms have terrible battery life. They always have. However, the stock roms have terrific battery life. After a long day of heavy usage I am at 50%

There isn't really a stock 2.2 Rom for Vibrant because it hasn't been released yet. We have leaked builds (JK2, JK6, JL1, JL4, JL5) that are candidates for release. When they actually release Froyo for Vibrant, that will be your stock froyo rom.
The key to great battery life is using the Stock kernel. Flash that kernel on any ROM and enjoy not having to watch your battery indicator all day.
yea, just read a thread about people complaining about that.
guess I'll just flash back to 2.1..
Thanks for all the help.
I flashed nero v2 w/ voodoo and i reset the battery stats, and now im having trouble draining the battery down to nothing.

I'll give it a try.. nothing to lose.
To drain the battery, I usually turn on Bluetooth, Wifi, GPS, all the good stuff. Then I downloaded this one Flashlight app from the Market which essentially displays one color full screen, default white. Crank up the brightness and run that app on white and it'll really put the hurt on your battery.
Edit: Today I learned that this may be potentially harmful information. Will someone give a good scientific explanation why though? I'm curious to learn more about batteries. However, this is how I've been draining my battery and it is a damn good method if that's what you want done.
Mine says 2.6.32.9 no matter what kernel i flash. Try flashing it just to be sure. I've tried all the ROMs and they all drain hard until I add the stock kernel to them. Though now a days a lot of ROMs include the stock kernel (Macnut and Axura for sure do). The problem with all the custom kernels is they dont seem to let the phone sleep so when your screen turns off the phone keeps draining as if you were using it. Stock fixes this so when your screen turns off barely any power is used. I
But like I said.. reflash it just to be sure.

Android is based on Linux and uses the Linux kernel as a base. The Linux kernel your phone's kernel is based off of is version 2.6.32.9
ok.. think I loaded the stock kernel up.. lol I'll let it run for about an hour and see what kind of CPU numbers I get in idle.
Thanks again for everyones help/input.
FYI.. just put it in flight mode for a bit and CPU usage dropped down to almost 0%.. I'm not understanding why it cant do that when the phone is idle.. ahh well.
Idle for an hour should lose no more than 1% battery depending on how much stuff you have polling and updating.

[q] Blackhole 2.4 battery drain

Anybody else experiencing pretty bad battery drain with blackhole 2.4? Known issue? I don't want to reflash back to an older version without confirmation because it's a bit of a hassle.
Don't mean to come off crass if it sounds like that, but it's been rather severe the past few days.
Running stupidfast 1.54 fwiw.
Thanks for your help guys.
Sent from my stupidfast DJ05
I noticed that when I first started using blackhole 2.4 I had awesome battery life, now it has really started to trail off. I can get through the day, but it's pretty low at night.
31% in about an hour... Can't be normal right?
Also I've turned off bln for now because I assumed that had something to do with it.
Sent from my stupidfast DJ05
If I dont use it overnight it will go from 100% to 45% in about 7 hours. If I am reading the news and just surfing the web it goes from 100% to about 60% in about an hour.
Not sure if it will help, but try charging to full and wiping battery stats in "advanced" in clockworkmod

I'll give it a shot when I get home.
Thanks.

31% per hour is too fast, when with display on and heavy use. I only burn battery like that if I leave bluetooth or wifi sharing on. Perhaps brightness is on full. Maybe something quirky in your kernel install. I've seen no battery life change, positive or negative, with blackhole 2.4.
I let my battery drain completely, and charged the phone while it was off to 100% and reset my battery stats. So I'll be testing the runtime now under average use as earlier today. I'll report back with the time in this thread when I can.
try doing *22899 instead of *228 it helped me a ton when my battery was going fast. My battery would go randomly 5% every hour in standby until i did this. Now it goes maybe 1% every 2 to 3 hours.
Usage is much more acceptable now. Btw what's that *228 stuff?
Edit: I looked it up, why would I need to reprogram? Regardless I still tried it out, let's see if it makes a difference.

Of all the ROMs and kernels I tried, I consistently got the poorest battery life with StupidFast kernels and BlackHole ROMs. I tried them individually so as to eliminate issues caused by the other (ROM or kernel), and the result was always the same. I can't imagine what the battery drain would be using them together.
I'd try swapping out the kernel since it's the easiest to do and see what difference that makes. Geeknik is no longer developing or supporting the StupidFast kernels, so they're a bit of a dead end at this point anyway.
I get pretty good battery life pairing blackhole with jt 11/29 and a properly rejuvenated battery (sucked to death then overcharged while off once a month or less). Not sure what causes your issue, just want to add that not everyone had the same negative experience.
In terms of geeknik, he is absolutely still making kernels last time I checked, and people still love them religiously. I personally have not had a lot of luck pairing stupid fast 1.54 or 12/20 with black hole, so one may have better luck with super clean for those kernels. I have no idea why, or if my experience is isolated. Human nature prevents me from spending a lot of effort testing configurations that don't work well for me.
In terms of reprogramming your phone with *228 or *22899 (or *22800, whatever that does), you only should be concerned with that if you are getting a lot of signal loss in your standby mode battery stats. It resets the PRL, which is the list of local compatible towers the carrier authorizes your phone to use. More towers means less signal loss, especially relevant while traveling. Now if someone could explain to me why both phones and pdas are too dumb to manage their own PRLs, that would make my year!
Edit: Apparently I have no idea what I am talking about. The link in the next post indicates that geeknik no longer owns a Fascinate and its no longer developing kernels for it. My error.
Swyped w/ XDA App. When in doubt, mumble.

Oh, ok, perhaps something has changed since his latest post here.
Still, I consistently got lousy battery life with his kernels, and honestly, I saw no objective improvement in speed. To be fair, I don't see any speed increase in JT's kernels either. I suspect the majority of people's lag is in the ROM, not the kernel.
Well I'm not experiencing any issues after I did the battery stats wipe last night, so it's probably not the kernel and rom pairing.
Sent from my stupidfast DJ05
I have been having serious battery problems every since I got the phone.. the other day I installed Blackhole 2.4 running JT's 11/29 kerenel.. also running DJ05.. obviously... and I haven't been this happy with my battery to date! I am getting a good 16 hours of pretty heavy use where as before I would only get 10 hours maybe.. my battery would drop 30 percent at night before.. now it only dropped 11 percent.. still too much IMO but a lot better than what it used to be!
This is not something i've ever had issues with personally, however I do completly drain the battery and fully recharge it, then wipe battery stats from cwm recovery, every few weeks.

Thanks XDA

I want to start off by saying that I am a NOOB at this rooting and custom ROM stuff. I was getting ready to toss this Vibrant in the trash when I said to read up on rooting, follow the steps provided, and install a custom rom. XDA you have saved my phone. I want to thank all of you who provide all of the support here. I installed Bionix 1.3 and I am in shock at this phone now. GPS actually works in real time. The phone is superfast as well. The only issue I have is that I can't surf the web or check FB without my battery draining like 3-5% in a ten minute span. Its crazy. Battery does well in standby mode. Extremely well as a matter of fact. not sure why it drains so quickly when I actually use it. I have wiped the battery stats and done the battery cycle. Overall still love the new look. Keep em coming.
Glad you found a new appreciation for your phone through xda. As we all did.
Your issue is with the kernal used in 1.3. The OverStock kernel. I've had the same issue. Great life in standby 1% an hour vs on a vanilla kernel + voodoo 3-4% an hour drain. Whenever I have my screen on battery drain is insane. 30% increase with the screen on vs how it norally would be. I would recommend flashing ka7/kb1 + voodoo kernel. That should fix it right up.
2 things
Check and make sure there are not background apps engaged when using those apps (sounds like there may be)
Also if you want you can buy a 4g battery it is 1650 mah that will help. But I use my phone alot and Battery really not an issue anymore.
check your background apps see what is not necessary to run.
i believe Team Whiskey removed the OverStock kernel and replaced it with the regualar VooDoo kernel in Bionix-V 1.3.1....
Maybe you should try that....
I'm using Categorically Worthless kernel on Binix-V 1.3.1 and my battery life is great
I must say THANKS as well. Tried rooting yesterday but something went wrong, was on official 2.2 and couldn't get 3e-2e fix to work. Nearly bricked phone. Searched xda. Now rooted with Bionix v (not tw version). Loving this speed. Battery isn't an issue since I have a spare w/charger.

Go to team whiskey's website, register,go to forums look for shory's files near top of page download kb1+voodoo kernal and flash it w/clockwork ...that will overwrite the over clock kernal and give you much better battery life or you can just flash bionix 1.3.1,personaly i like 1.3 and i just switch back and forth between kb1 and overstock it only takes about 20 seconds to flash
Bionix-V 1.3 w/a Splash of Color
Thanks for the response everyone. Will flashing the kernel wipe everything? I will be doing a backup though clockwork anyway. I was just wondering..... Thanks.

No, it will just overwrite the kernal files, so your sd card and all that should be fine, but go ahead and get in the habit of making backups regularly. Trust me, it can happen.

Roms with great battery and performance

I have an aunt who has a verizon fascinate and she whines and cries about the battery and performance on the phone. I explain to her many factors that could cause issues since it's just stock and it goes through one ear and out the ear. I don't understand how people can't comprehend. I was wondering what roms and/or kernels through people experiences that have great battery and performance so I can shut her up once and for all. Thanks.
I've had the best battery life on stock debloated roms, it feels like it lasts forever. So eh03 superclean atm.

SC is only flashable.
SC3 .05 is great. If she wants even more, flash a KGB kernel then slightly OC and undervolt it. Superb battery life and very snappy. I use ADW EX launcher for even a touch more snap.
Superclean3 and minimal kernel (on rootz) have worked the best for me for battery.
