Does anyone know the best fully functioning rom with the best battery life?
(Sense or AOSP)
Thanks in advance!

CyanogenMod 7 with tiamat kernel gets pretty good battery life. The kernels tend to have mor eaffect on battery life then the roms themselves.
Thanks!
And for some reason my gf's EVO is dying really fast. I mean it drains 1% every 5 mins.
I replaced the battery and still the same thing. It's running CM7.

Try MIUI with Tiamat 3.3.7 SBC
Sounds like she might have 4g running all the time. Or maybe she might be updating/refreshing her background data to often. Only use 4g to down load big files or steaming vedio. Check her 4g connection and turn off or her sync rate set it to every 3 hours or more. If one or both are the culprit then she'll see a big improvement.
I run EVO Deck rom with cyanogenmod love it. And every thing works.
Hope this helps
I figured I'd chime in because you said you wanted a fully functioning ROM. CM7 and Deck had always yielded the best battery life for me with the last rev of the Savage Zen Kernel, but if you're like me and are very anal about the phrase "fully functioning" then it should be noted that the AOSP ROMs don't have 720p video recording. If that doesn't bother you than CM7 or Deck all the way.
That said i'm running TommyTomato's Classic ROM with the Freedom Agressive kernel and I'm getting 25+ hours on a charge which puts it on par with any AOSP ROM/kernel combo I've run. Might be able to get a little better on AOSP, but I'd say that's pretty damn good and it's fully functioning as in EVERYTHING works 100%.

4G is never on, Background data is unchecked, Email is set to manual sync, brightness is dimmed, no wifi. I feel as if I've done every battery saving trick in the book.
But I realized yesterday that I had SetCPU at 700mhz to save battery. I uninstalled it and the battery life wasn't dropping so rapidly. I can't say that was the issue. I'll have to run a few more test.

I will definitely try that combo and see what happens. I always flash roms but never kernels, to scared haha.
I get better battery on drews ICS ROM Than any from I've run in a year. I use it as a daily, it isn't completely fully functioning though, as 4g doesn't work and video is iffy.
That said, after I updated to latest radio, my battery is dying much faster........did you do the radio update ?

If you're flashing ROMs, you're already flashing kernels. Don't fear the kernel flash. Tiamat Lee on CM7 or Deck's is where it's at.

I meant interchanging kernels with custom roms.

I'm on Tommys Classic Supermagic, running the Hard to kill battery calibration script from Zepplins thread and i'm getting the best battery life i've had on any other rom and i've used this script with about 10 different roms, from AOSP to Sense 3.0,wont run 3.5 because of bugs and no 4G,after a full charge with alot of phone calls, texts and surfing,i held a charge for 4 days,it was 67% on the second day and actually died on the forth AM.
I'd definitely do a comparison between screen-on and awake time.
If you don't know this, you can access it through Settings > About Phone > Battery Use/History/Etc. See if the bar graphs of screen-on match awake. If you see a long bar under awake, but not a matching one under screen-on, you probably have a process or app that is stuck and needs to be removed/re-installed or have it's data cleared.
Note: it's normal to have some awake time that doesn't match screen on as apps/processes still have to perform there activities even with the screen-off, however, it shouldn't be a ton.
The best app out there to study this IMO is betterbatterstats. Hope this helps! Cheers!

Ok guys. I have to admit, I was about to give up on CM7 due to battery issues and what seemed to be memory leaks progressively making my phone lag more and more throughout the day. I have found something some of you may not be aware of and I wanted to share this amazingly helpful kernel with you.
Using x99, Scary, and stock kernels regardless of governor I seemed to maybe get 8 hours of battery life with moderate to heavy use. I am proud to say, using bcnice20's kernel I have had my phone on for 9 hours with 60% battery life today. This is incredible, even with lighter use on the other kernels I had NOWHERE near this amount of battery left.
Most of you may not have seen this kernel because it isn't posted. (as far as im aware) Let me help you out. First, go into your Market and download Kernel Manager. There is a lite version in there that is free. If you have an extra buck or two donate to the developer for making a neat app where you can download kernels in a convenient place by downloading the pro version.
What you will be downloading is called bcblend SIO tinyRCU kernel. I have not tried VR tinyRCU kernel yet. Not sure what the differences are, if someone could elaborate that'd be appreciated.
Regardless, I find the sweet spot for this to be at 245MHz min and 1GHz max on Interactive governor to work really well. The phone does not seem to get laggier throughout the day and consistently performs well, snappy, and just way better than the other kernels. (No offense to x99 and Scary, I appreciate all you've done!)
Give it a try and let me know if you all have similar results! I have heard that AOSP gets less battery than Sense ROMs from people on this very forum, and this may be the kernel to put that little debate to rest.
Oh, and be sure you have the latest CM7. I am on 7.0.2.1 trying this out.

Well with CM7 and the x99 kernal seems to give me the best battery life with the SMARTASS governor. About 20 hours with medium to heavy use.

There is no link at this point, you have to do it via kernel manager. I'd upload it but I don't want to without bc's permission.

Since CM7 lets you change governors right in its settings I uninstalled SetCPU for now, in theory I would think it would cause more battery drain but I don't know for sure. But yes I just changed it right in CM7. I changed the governor to interactive and set the max cpu frequency to 1036MHz.
Gonna try this out. I love CM7 but the battery is killing me. I pray this works.
Android system & cell standby seem to be the battery use culprit. I will give this a try though but don't really think its in the kernel. Ill report back...

This kernel seems to be really good about not sucking the battery while on standby for me, that seems to be the crown jewel of it all. Right Now I am at 14 hours off the charger with 29% left.. remember I was lucky to get 8 hours most days before using this kernel.
This is off-topic, but along the same lines: which kernels gave the best battery life for Sense?

Honestly I didn't get much difference between x99 and bcnice20's 1.5GHz kernel so either of those two. Scarykernel SUV works well on Sense if your phone can boot it too.

It seems to be true. I'm def getting better battery life. I also calibrated my battery but I've done that before without any major change. So far I have 5 hours of quite a bit of use and I'm at 71% I would normally be around 55-60% by now. I wonder what the main difference is with the kernel...

Yes, from what I have read, you have to use the kernel that comes with the rom.
I am getting HORRIBLE battery life with the synergy rom....almost to where I cant use it. I LOVE the rom, but the battery life is frustrating!
Hopefully Netarchy will develop one that will work with this type of rom and we will be saved.

I tried that for a bit over the weekend...but there was something I did not like about it...cant remember now. I will have a go with it again to verify.
At the end of the day...we can develop superb ROMS that have flashy flashes, but if the battery/components cant take it, then we are still at a stand still.
my battery life is good most of the time, but it seems there are periods where it drops quickly. i think it drops when the market alerts me about updates to my apps. both times i've had quick drops, the market has been the top app draining the battery and has a notification of updates. i don't see an option to turn of notifications is this updated version.

No but the netarchy kernel I use works just fine with my King's Alliance GB. It's all in the UNIVERSAL kernel, I should say
I usually get 24 hours up time and 3 hours awake before I've got to pop in a charged battery. Normally change out at 20% to keep it from going dead on me when I need it most.
I am having the worst battery life with my evo 4g running gingerbread evo deck 1.3 final with the Tiamat Evo v4.0.8. Makes no sense. I have nothing syncing but it looks like my "Android system" is working overtime. Lol. Any Suggestions or anything. I flashed the kernal when I flashed the latest evo deck rom two days ago. android system shows up after a call guys...Make a call and see what happens but that does not have to be the battery killer. It can show up on mine like crazy and I still get good battery life. Change kernels, drop processor speed delete apk's from system/app that you dont need and may be running. I mean there are a lot of things you can do expect panic.... Its ok give everything a shot you will work it out...

It all started back in May. I purchased my first "smart" phone, and caught a qbking77 video on how to root. Now I'm addicted to crack, and love our awesome devs. They have done so much for me, if they had car trouble, id be the first to lend my hand. On to my question now. I realize our hardware doesn't respond the same to various roms, but why is it, even after multiple epic 4g's, does MIUI always have the best battery life? I know its not fully complete, but it just rapes the competition. Any knowledge here?
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
probably because as you said, its not completely running everything the hardware can so it uses less battery
From my understanding though, mms and 4g still aren't working, which I never use anyway, and these are huge bettery drainers for a lot of ROMs, so what gives? 4g is sprints joke laughing down on us. MIUI is an asian based software right? Is it the 2.3.7 tweaks that make it better?

i guess each device is different. before i went to gb, i used to take my phone to the gym with me as for music. i usually streamed pandora, sirius, or googlemusic, sometimes listening from my phones hd. I would go to the gym about 1.5-2 hrs and leave with about using 25-35% of battery avg. With GB, i used about~20%... but this is only 2 days so far..
Well, I've been flashing and testing a hell of a lot of Rom and kernels lately, and the best battery life seems to be with SenseiSimple's SleeperROM. I use the latest version of earthbound [iap]'s Samurai kernel. That kernel allows for a hell of a lot of flexibility in terms of frequency and voltage, so you can fiddle around a bit to find a combo that works for you best. The SleeperROM already uses the Samurai kernel by default, but it is presently still compatible with the latest BETA version.

Have you tried to flash the Mason SBC kernel with it? I think the cm9 port has a mason kernel baked in but it doesn't have SBC. I've been running the Mason I .15rc3 kernel with it and battery life has been great. Also, give the rom+kernel a few days to settle in before passing judgement on battery life. I've found that after giving a fresh install of a rom/kernel a few days the battery life will improve.

Yea try it out and let us know. Just remember, with SBC kernels, you want to let the phone charge for about another hour or so after it reports that it is fully charged in order to get the full SBC effect.

I get your advise and I have to tell you that I notice the difference in just 10 mins. Now we are talking about. I was off today so I decide to play with my Evo to test this kernel, I spend almost 5 hrs(straight) between playing with settings, browsing the internet, setting some apps and watching videos from the internet(2 hrs maybe) and I'm on 20% right now. I think that's pretty good. Thank you for the advice!!!
I don't know about u guys but on my evo using stock battery which is 1500mah will last more then 24hrs using cm9.

I have the 1500 mah stock batery too and with cm9-stock kernel I had a poor bat-life, Yesterday I flash the Mason I .15rc3 kernel and so far I'm impressed.
My set up is;
Evo 003 stock battery
cm9 nighties 05/10
Mason I .15rc3 kernel, Wheatley governor (min cpu 245mhz - max cpu 1075mhz)

Just thought I would post this...Running the unofficial CM9 from JMZ Taylor with the Mason v0.14 non-sbc kernel that comes baked into the ROM and using vipermod to lower voltage by 50mv

CM9 comes with a MANSON kernel, but in not the same one. The one that I flashed is the "I 15r3", means that is the 3rd released candidate so is not a final version yet. I'm not sure whats the one that comes with cm9, but I think is a basic version of Manson Kernel made for cm9.
Remember this are electronic devices, maybe whats works for me don't work for you and vice versa. This is a great example. The cm9 stock kernel works great for you, I didn't get the same as you, but I get it with another kernel.

I have messed around with all of the governors and really found for my device that the performance governor believe it or not gives me the best battery life with this rom...well put about the differences in results! Posting setups gives others ideas to try for themselves to see the results!!

Well curiously I get lost Today when I was driving and I was scared cuz I haven't tested before and it worked great for me. I used it with a voice command and responded very quick and very well.
I think that's pretty cool.
