I have to admit, I have selfish reasons for posting this poll. I never know what is the most stable/feature rich ROM available without reading through countless posts on several forums so I thought it would be good to have a central place for people to get an idea on what everyone else is currently using.
Right now I'm using Epic Experience with Phoenix kernel and my screen goes black with no way to bring it back without a battery pull. So I need to know what ROM to try next. My goals are simple:
Fast, stable, and most importantly... good battery life.
I just finally convinced my wife to let me root her epic in order to fix battery life and its not working very well.
I am using Baked Snack v1.3 and was on the Boss Rom before with Mixup Kernel. On BakedSnackShack.com you can download it for free. Herver was kicked off for asking for donations ($5min) before the public release, but let me tell you I have not run into 1 problem in ANY program in the last month...I don't plan on ever going to another developer because of his great success and features. He should be allowed back on but every time he does more drama happens. A rom is different for everyone and thats why there are so many developers to suite your needs. Good luck and if nothing else just try it out....I assure you will be impressed!
you need to realize what works for one person will not work for another. different combanations work and suite others needs then their own. i suggest trying everything out and find what works the best for you
I have to say, I agree with mysteryemotionz. What one person may prefer may be what another dislikes. What one person may notice as being a problem, another may overlook. For instance, on the EVO forums a lot of people like cyanogenmod. I personally do not due to the lack of certain functions like 4G and other things (havent look at their forum in awhile so IDk if its still not working now).
Im currently using Epic Experience and mixup kernel. I loved AOSP Magic, but Epic Experience seems to have better support. I prefer the look of AOSP magic tho. I havent tried any other kernel since Im currently satisfied with how I have mixup running.
Yup...baked snack is the best so far I'd say. I've tried em all. Still haven't gotten the battery life that I've read about in some posts. But the battery life is by far better than stock. I'm using epic experience 1.2.0.4 with the latest mixup kernel also tried the latest phoenix kernel with no significant difference. So I just keep trying new things till something better comes along.

Seems clear I've missed a few ROM's like "baked snack". I just used the wiki post for my poll info.

At first you say that you're using Baked Snack v1.3 but then later on you mention Herver and in the same sentence say "...I have not run in to 1 problem in ANY program in the last month".
So which is it? What ROM are you using that isn't giving you any grief right now?
Baked Snack v1.3 or Herver?
Also, while I'm on the subject, how do I add more options to the poll?
I think Herver is the developer of bakedsnack

I don't think there's a "best" ROM / kernel combo for everyone.
It seems that each individual's phones and experiences can and are different.
For example, I was running stock rooted ROM with every version of MixUp since it's inception. On the most recent MixUp I started having battery life issues with no other changes so I decided to try a few things. First thing I did was change to the Epic Experience ROM which did improve my battery life a bit with the latest MixUp back to where it had been with the stock ROM and the previous MixUp. After reading a lot that the Phoenix kernel worked really good with Epic Experience I changed to the most recent version of it. Battery life went off the charts in the good direction with no other change. Phoenix is suppose to run at interactive governor by default but I was getting some weird behavior from it, so I swapped it to conservative and it's working perfect for me. When using any of the kernels I always kept my minimum set to 200Mhz to avoid any sleep/lockup/wakeup issues.
I don't think Phoenix is a better kernel than MixUp, nor do I think MixUp is, just for right now, Phoenix is working better for MY phone. I'll probably continue to bounce back and forth between these two as newer versions of each are released.
The below screen shot was after some light usage, a few phone calls, little bit of texting, maybe about 1/3 to 1/2 of the time on Wi-fi, maybe 30min to 1hr of games, maybe an hour of web surfing.
Baked Snack 1.3 with Phoenix 1.49.
I got about 13.5 hours of battery yesterday.
I used the baked snack kernel for a few days with noobl's andromeda (de odex) rom.. With many apps I didn't need, removed. I had many lockups (especially while charging) where a battery pull was the only way to get out. The only consistent crash I could find was if I was plugged into ac, with screen off, and received a notification, e.g. gmail message.. Which meant for me, no wake up alarm in the morning. I liked the speed, but the instability, on my setup at least, had me switch back to mixed up kernel. I still don't have the best battery life, but I'm getting to the bottom of that in the mixed up thread. Fwiw.

by far my favorite and my current set up: apophis 1.1 (rom) and baked snack 1.3 (kernel), overclocked to 1.3 ghz.
i get linpak scores of 10.5 + consistantly and quadrant scores of 1010 + consistantly. this is the fastest combination ive ever used. when i first unplug it, the battery usually drops down to 95% in a couple minutes but steadies out after that. by the end of the day, once i get home from school, i usally have at least 20% left. and that's with 4g always on and moderate to heavy usage. once plugged in, it charges at a steady and fast rate.
i have my phone stripped down to bare minimum and only a few apps that i need. ive had zero black screens and few to none force closes upon rebooting but none to freak out about or anything that proves a problem.
props to the developers. thank you for providing the community with your hard work.

wtf OP? did you have to make a poll?
I had the same problems as the poster, but i think it was setcpu, i kept messing with the settings. I ended up leaving it on conservative, and it has not turned off on me since.
Im running phonix kernal / epic experience
I get like 20 maybe more hours of usage, fast charges, and only drains very little battery overnight..
i like this setup
I personally use Epic Experience 1.2.0.4 and Phoenix 1.49. I switched the governor to conservative because I had issues with the default interactive and have had zero issues since I switched. I got amazing battery life just 1ghz but I underclocked to 800mhz to improve my battery life even more without compromising on performance. If I'm doing something processor intensive I do bring it back up to 1ghz or even to 1.2ghz haha. But this combo works for me and I got approximately 35hrs with what I would call light usage. With moderate to heavy usage I average about 18hrs.
It definitely seems that Epic Experience / Phoenix is the most popular combo, at least with those voting.
Glad to see others have reported similar experiences to mine with this combo as well.
Could just be mental, but I also seemed to notice that the phone charges a lot quicker than before with this Rom/Kernel as well as not getting as hot while charging. Not sure how/if it could effect this, but it sure "seems" that way.

Maybe that was my problem. I'm now running Baked Snack 1.3 and the kernel says Here_Over. The volume won't work and there are other issues. My wife is gunna kill me if I don't get her a working phone soon. She's going to ask me to take her back to stock. (Ugh)
When following the instructions for flashing Epic Experience I never saw anything about setcpu or a governor. I just left everything at defaults.
I have been dabating wether or not to flash a froyo rom and modem. I am currently using ee with phoenix kernel and loving the battery life i get out of it. I have searched the threads but not to much pertaining the the battery life of froyo as there is no kernels yet, most replies to battery life on froyo are a simple its good or i get good battery life. I Wa wondering what kind of battery life people are getting with froyo roms. battery life is the 1st on my list of importance so some with respectable performance would be nice to know so i could make my first froyo jump. Thanks in advance.
I've been on it for a few days now (DK17). I don't use any task manager, or juice defender or anything like that. I have a start-up manager (autoruns) and thats it. I unplugged my phone yesterday at 10:30am and 12 hours later I still had 40-45% remaining after some moderate use... angry birds, asphalt and web browsing mainly.
Hope that helps!
I just flashed 2.2 and used it all day at work for texting, calling, facebook and web browsing and after 9 hours at work i had just under 80% battery life left.
If you are after battery life, then stay on 2.1. I have 4 backup batteries and didn't mind going to 2.2, but I did have a considerable battery life decrease. I find myself changing batteries atleast once a day with these beta 2.2 releases. Recently I haven't noticed it as much, but I think that is due to my getting used to the routine of changing batts every 6-8 hours depending on use.
I really do enjoy the perks of 2.2 though. Flash player with Hulu is awesome, faster phone than 2.1, and the developers are doing a great job of getting some custom themes integrated right now, which makes it not only run great, but look awesome.

I've used it the second it came out, some noticeable snags you'll work around just fine. I've had it for atleast 3ish weeks no major setbacks I guess. Just used clock and flashed it. Happy with over all with flash and other new twists....phone can be hairy at times, but I've foun several androids do on 2.2. Speaker everytme you pick up a call with he feature "off". I have had the epic on the first day at day break.....

I'd stay with 2.1 for now. My phone took a serious performance hit going to 2.2... something is wrong with that kernel. Not optimized yet maybe?

I don't know about you guys, but I am using ACS's Froyo build and my Epic has never had better battery life. By a large margin.
It seems the latest froyo release has been outstanding in terms of battery life. If you're looking for battery efficiency, definitely go with a froyo rom. If you're looking for performance, go with eclair. All in all however, froyo roms are fairly snappy especially considering they are at stock speeds. Can't wait for battery life increases once froyo roms get UV'd.
EDIT: on second thought, I'd have to recommend froyo either way. The improved web browser performance + flash as well as froyo gapps alone make the jump worth it. There's really no 'lag' to speak of on froyo roms... merely, the phone just seems faster on eclair switching between apps and loading/closing them.
I'm using epic experience 2.0(froyo) and my epic has never performed better. Especially gps locks in like 2-3 seconds even without wireless location check marked. Very fast and smooth. Probably just as fast if not faster than 2.1 overclocked to 1.2. For me it seems anyway. Way worth it in my opinion.

Honest to God I'll never understand comments such as these. If battery life is the most important thing then why the hell did you buy the most power hungry phone? You bought it for performance didn't you???? Performance and battery life are polar opposites. Much like horsepower and fuel economy.
Let me save you some suspense... you'll never get more than a day out of this phone. At least not if you actually use the damn thing. If you travel, take a car charger. If you are in the office, have a charger with you. If your job requires you to be away from power then bring an external battery. The phone lasts a normal work day between charges so install 2.2 and enjoy your phone for what it is... a powerhouse!
Btw, the battery life seems pretty good in comparison to stock 2.1.
Or u can buy one of the double or more life batteries for $100 that comes with a modified battery cover to fit the extended battery, then couple it with a kickass kernel (phoenix) and have the best of both worlds

Hey guys,
I am thinking of purchasing a certified used Fascinate to a) have another phone to play with and b) lock myself into the unlimited data plan before VZW cuts me off this summer (i am month to month right now.)
is it a good phone? i know the screen is brilliant. how is the battery life? i have a Dinc and it cant be worse than that. how is the dev community? is cm7 available?
any thoughts or opinions would be great.. thanks.
I think its a great phone and we have a great dev community. However, it won't help you lock in unlimited. As soon as anyone upgrades to a lte phone you'll be forced to get a new plan. That's what happened when 3g came out and it will happen with 4g on all big carriers. I.e. at&t peeps will lose their grandfather clause too with lte. Sucks but its how they work.

Punk.Kaos is working on a CM7 build currently. He has an alpha posted in the dev section, and many people (including myself) are salivating for his next release.

i have no plans to upgrade to a 4g phone at this time, at least not through verizon. i am only looking to secure my $29.99 unlimited data for the time being.
Verizon hates me; Its an argument every time I get a new phone, but I insist on keeping my exisiting plan.
Im paying Alltell rates from a plan 4 years old. To get the exact same service branded 'Verizon', Id have to pay $25 more a month for two phones.
Its all a game. If you like your plan after your contract, they cant force you to change unless you go to LTE or something that isnt supported on your current plan.
it's a great phone! lots of potential, and, if you read everything you can in the fascinate forums here, you will learn a lot. the screen was what made me choose it over the droid x. i don't regret it at all.
Battery and Screen have to go to the fascinate but if your looking at ROMs I would stick with the DINC. There is no groundbreaking or impressive ROM development out here for the fascinate. So you wont see a fully functional Ultimate Droid, MIUI, or CM ROM. Who knows if there will ever be innovative and feature-packed ROMs for us here.
now everyone can start bashing me
Well from what I read now that froyo is available the fascinate is the most state of the art single core 3g android phone on Verizon.
Screen is impressive and looks better than the INC. Battery life really depends on what kernel and rom you choose, like other phones. The Fascinate, although it has a great dev community, because Samsung's being a douche about Froyo and its source for the Fascinate, many custom roms like CM, and MIUI, and roms with special addons are not quite there yet, but we do have stable Froyo roms and themes. No custom kernels for Froyo yet because of lack of source.

If it weren't for the Devs there wouldn't be any Froyo. The false promises of an update have been frustrating but I've been using the leaked version in the Super clean rom for awhile and I love it.
To sum it up for you quickly, you want custom stuff, stay with the incredible or move on to the Thunderbolt, but if you want the best hardware and media playback on the market, get the Fascinate.
I have been using certified used for about a month.
Looked good as new, they put in new battery, charger, rear cover, etc.
Works well...have bricked twice and had no issues that were related to hardware.

so well worth the $35 dollars? lol
i do have the INC for development but my concern is that my inc only gets good battery life if i run cm6.1 with a very modified kernel.
what is the average battery life on a froyo rom? lets say... moderate use.
no one has anything else to say about their phone they use everyday?
I came from a D1 and would not go back. Miss some of the the things from CM but am happy with what I can do so far.
Mine will last a typical moderate (i even play some games) day off the charger with SC** rom's. Just updated today to latest so dont know on it yet.
Rom's will only get better.

As far as custom Roms go battery life is all over the board. When I was using SC 2.2 my battery life was good, but it dropped off on 2.4, 2.6, and 2.7. Now that I'm using 2.8 it's good again but different people have different results because their are so many ways to customize. The worst battery life I got was with the stock rom.
Seidio makes a 1600mAh slim battery which gets you an additional 100mAh without replacing your battery door; Not that signifigant but the 3000mAh extended battery is a huge jump.
I do agree that the picture quality is second to none. It has a beautiful screen.
Battery life depends on how you use and how you define "light", "moderate", and "heavy" usage. For me, moderate usage will get me around 15-20 hours of battery life. Phone will lose about 1-1.5% an hour when it is idle with screen off so standby time is very good.
Phone is fast and stable. Media playback is top-notch. The screen is beautiful and quite responsive to input. The phone feels decent in your hand though I do prefer it with a rubberized case. I have the Otterbox Impact and I find that it gives the phone a perfect feel for my hand.
I honestly have no complaints with the Fascinate aside from Sansung being slow to update it. That said, with Superclean 2.8 I'm pretty sure I'll never use the Froyo OTA update anyway. We also have a buddding dev scene. A CM7 port and framework are in the works, along with a custom 2.2 kernel, and a MIUI port.
I'm certainly biased, but I would recommend the Fascinate to just about everyone except for people who NEED a hardware based keyboard.
My battery life is very good with any use.
I know others have used varying beta roms and have battery issues.
I have had zero of these issues.
My battery always lasts a full day easily (last night after being unplugged for ~20hrs it still had over 40% life).
I use it daily with these basic cases:
get up around 6:30am....
unplug, read email/messages, check out online game (diplomacy), check some news, check calendar...
throughout day...
use various tools, browser, map, gps on, xda, diplomacy, etc, use pandora for couple hours as i hit the gym...
I then plug in at bedtime between 11pm and 1am.
Rarely it will be in a low red colored %. Great majority of time its between 20 and 40%.
Only time frame I needed to plug in during day was on days when I was making extensive phone calls (hours for various issues) or right after I got Angry Birds. Played continuously for a week.

CyanogenMod 7 with tiamat kernel gets pretty good battery life. The kernels tend to have mor eaffect on battery life then the roms themselves.

Sounds like she might have 4g running all the time. Or maybe she might be updating/refreshing her background data to often. Only use 4g to down load big files or steaming vedio. Check her 4g connection and turn off or her sync rate set it to every 3 hours or more. If one or both are the culprit then she'll see a big improvement.
I run EVO Deck rom with cyanogenmod love it. And every thing works.
Hope this helps
I figured I'd chime in because you said you wanted a fully functioning ROM. CM7 and Deck had always yielded the best battery life for me with the last rev of the Savage Zen Kernel, but if you're like me and are very anal about the phrase "fully functioning" then it should be noted that the AOSP ROMs don't have 720p video recording. If that doesn't bother you than CM7 or Deck all the way.
That said i'm running TommyTomato's Classic ROM with the Freedom Agressive kernel and I'm getting 25+ hours on a charge which puts it on par with any AOSP ROM/kernel combo I've run. Might be able to get a little better on AOSP, but I'd say that's pretty damn good and it's fully functioning as in EVERYTHING works 100%.

4G is never on, Background data is unchecked, Email is set to manual sync, brightness is dimmed, no wifi. I feel as if I've done every battery saving trick in the book.
But I realized yesterday that I had SetCPU at 700mhz to save battery. I uninstalled it and the battery life wasn't dropping so rapidly. I can't say that was the issue. I'll have to run a few more test.

I'm on Tommys Classic Supermagic, running the Hard to kill battery calibration script from Zepplins thread and i'm getting the best battery life i've had on any other rom and i've used this script with about 10 different roms, from AOSP to Sense 3.0,wont run 3.5 because of bugs and no 4G,after a full charge with alot of phone calls, texts and surfing,i held a charge for 4 days,it was 67% on the second day and actually died on the forth AM.
I'd definitely do a comparison between screen-on and awake time.
If you don't know this, you can access it through Settings > About Phone > Battery Use/History/Etc. See if the bar graphs of screen-on match awake. If you see a long bar under awake, but not a matching one under screen-on, you probably have a process or app that is stuck and needs to be removed/re-installed or have it's data cleared.
Note: it's normal to have some awake time that doesn't match screen on as apps/processes still have to perform there activities even with the screen-off, however, it shouldn't be a ton.
The best app out there to study this IMO is betterbatterstats. Hope this helps! Cheers!
Hello all
I have been roaming around XDA for a very long time now and I finally made an account because I simply cannot find an answer. I have a samsung vibrant and not the 4g nor can I upgrade(long story). I use my phone when I need it and i text alot. But lately my battery life hasn't been any good, I've tried reconditioning and the whole bit and nothing seems to give me my needed battery life. I am currently using ICS passion 13 RC1 and it works great, when Im not doing anything -.-; When I use it like for the internet or text a lot it drains. I got to 48% in 2 hours one time and thats with limited background processes. I know ALL about the keeping background proccesses and data using apps down so I hardly have any apps installed, which is very irritating at times, I dont even use the facebook app for that reason. I tried many different roms and it seemed Axura had done that best at one point but it was taken down or is no longer supported for whatever reason so I am now in search for a rom that can get me through the day. I text a lot and web browse occasionally. I dont have wifi so i cannot use that to save battery life while surfing so thats out. I would appreciate all the help and will try every rom if i have to lol XD
I appologize for the long message but I am so tired of hesitating to use my phone as a smart phone.
I get good battery life on the ICS Euphoria ROM. Your battery could be shot, you might try replacing it.
Any of the 2.3 or newer roms are going to get bad battery life. Fishmanmod's updating of Bionics has been very smooth and getting great battery life for me.
I find that battery life between 2.2 and ics is pretty much identical for me as long as there are no wakelocks preventing deep sleep. I'm currently on CM9 nightly w/ glitch kernel and deep idle enabled in nstools and have no battery life problems.
You could also look into getting an official 1800mah battery if you really need more juice
ICS Slim hands down the best.

Your issue is Passion. That ROM chews through battery worse than any I've ever used in the 2 years I've had my phone.

Its not just your Rom, I am on the CM9 nightly and noticed ICS ate my battery by noon today. I was down to 3% from 7am. Granted I am toying with it a bit more but I was still at work so I couldnt use it non stop and I wasnt even watching videos or listening to music on it. I have updated the kernel to SubZero 34 to see if that helps.
Chances are, your battery has lost some of its ability to hold a charge. I recommend buying a new OEM battery, chances are it'll increase your battery life by a good two or three hours.
So far, I haven't noticed a significant variation in battery use in various ROMs, I've found battery life to be more determined by the kernel.

On a side note, I destroyed my screen by stepping on it a few weeks ago. Ordered a new AMOLED screen (not the LCD knockoffs) and battery life did in crease by about 3-4 hours. Same OS, same battery.
So I think some excess drain could be caused by the screen, which might explain why some phones had such poor battery and others don't. I also no longer have the "graying/shadow" issue that plagues some of these phone.
So far ive had the best battery life with ICS passion RC2.1 and my 1800mah anker battery
Since flashing CM9 and then putting on the SubZero kernel (34) I did a full charge and decharge to test and got 12+ hours on it with my normal use. So I have to say SubZero kernel really helps out if you are on ICS.
I f you dont mind going back to a 2.2 rom I would suggest trying bionix 1.3.1 fishmanMod or Deranged9 fishmanMod alpha 1 both get awesome battery life especially when mixed with juice defender.
I was also using ICS Passion and noticed a significant degradation in available battery life. I have three batteries so I'm confident it was the From. Until then I had been using various Froyo rooms and all seemed to have better battery life than ICS. I personally felt it was more likely to be your kernel choice that would impact battery life. I just switched to the SLIM ICS from and I gave been very impressed with both the battery and the responsiveness. Same quadrant scores as Passion but it feels so much faster

I haven't taken the dive into ICS yet i may have to try that out.

another thing you can do while flashing wipe battery stats only once....then reboot to normal drain your battery till it reaches 1% charge it full widout any interruption and when it reaches to 100% unplug it and do the calibration from any software available in the market I use Battery Calibration Professionals

repeat the process for atleast 3 days in a row and you will feel the difference..hit thanks if it helps
@OP ICS is simply not battery friendly. You're going to want to use froyo if battery life is that important to you.
Or you can build a battery friendly ICS rom and let us know how it all is
The later builds of Cyanogenmod9 I have been on the stock kernel and its going all day with moderate use without battery issues.

+1
Bionix Fishman Mod is the first custom ROM I've ever installed on my phone and it's battery life is AWESOME. I recently added an 1800 mah battery and I've had 24+ hours on one charge with moderate to heavy use. The ROM itself is smooth as glass and no glitches to speak of.
Trying Bionix

I just installed bionix-V FishmanMod Final 3. Fingers crossed. I don't mind switching back to 2.2 as long as I have better battery. However I did notice when I reinstalled ICS before going to bionix that just factory, not even logging into the market. I got 1 day and 7 hours of battery life, granted I did not do much but text occasionally and some web browsing here and there. Is it possible that the android market is constantly checking on stuff or there is some data being proccessed constantly? I do live in an area where my signal is not great for 3g like 1-2 bars.

Alright so after about a day with the rom, I noticed it's just as bad. I am still getting battery drain and yes I have a new battery in so it is not that. I unplugged it from around noon, did alot of working on it with reflashes and little bits of texting and mostly just scrolling around the O.S. im now at 44%. its been about 5 - 6 hours.
Although I have been switching the battery between 2 phones and their battery meter is very different. like a 5% difference so that may be confusing it. Will update.
