hello everyone!
I just flashed my device with the latest jasjar rom available. Small changes, but nonetheless exciting ;-)
I desparately find great advantage in using direct push...and was wondering how i could get it working. I have a couple questions, and would really appreciate it if someone could help me through
1. Is it possible to use the account which is free from clubimate.com?
2. How do i configure direct push to work?
3. Is it really instantaneous, if so, would my device constantly keep pinging or something to report being live and ready?
4. How is it when compared to blackberry? Afaik, i think bberry integrates with the cell phone provider, and an sms-like alert wakes the device for recieving the mail through gprs mode of data transfer. I might be halucinating here with my own theories ;-)
What would be great, is an idiots guide to getting it up and running!!!
Thanks for your time!

come on!!!!!! someone must have tried it :-(

i dont think imate have done the exchange sp yet, 4smartphone.net is now what im using with my normal pop account.
4$ a month on the lowest setup, easy to setup, and works great.
@dreamtheater, suggest you look at the Clumimate site and ask i-Mate the same questions you posted here.
Use of the Exchange server is free for a year if you have bought an i-Mate device and about $69 if you have one second-hand (pre-used) device and would like to use the Exchange service.
edit: also look at this thread on AK2U which covers battery impact of Push email http://forum.xda-developers.com/viewtopic.php?t=41659&highlight=review+ak2u
Thanks Carnivor & Jah!
I have another Imate device (a hima)...so i have an exchange account created at clubimate...
I tried getting it to work, and these are the problems that i face currently...
1. There is a constant problem with authentication. It syncs successfully, give it a couple minutes, and on the next sync it asks for the password. When i enter the correct pass, it says its wrong and keeps asking...and theres nothing that i could do. I have to manually log in to my web access through my laptop, hit on "log off", and then retry on my ppc for it to work. This is frustrating
2. I havent found a way to configure it to use my exisiting mail account. Is it possible to do it with other providers (4smartphone.net for instance?). I would typically like to provide my pop3 and smtp details to transact with!
Thanks again, i'll be looking into 4smartphone.net and seeing if it fits my needs, thanks again so very much!
Cheers,
San

I just got a trial account up and running with 4...
It works good, and i'm just checking around to see if its a practical solution from MS...
I'm not too concerned about higher data transfers (i dont think it does anyway...its just a heartbeat packet sent out once in a while), but i'm definitely worried about my battery life. I'll see how it goes, and write back! Otherwise, it looks like a good solution for me....so thanks for the suggestion m8!
I'm however contemplating which solution to go for, the $4 or the $6!

I cant get live/messenger to accept my login/pwd, it says i have some connection problem which is BS since hotmail works with mobile.live.
anyone know whats the problem?
This is related to your network.
make sure that you are available in a good reception area.
if the problem still exists, try to connect for the first time through the WIFI connection and it will work.

I think this is MS network problem.
I have 2 accounts , MS's server allow my hotmail.com to login but live.hk.
I have used my live.hk to test multi-site login(WM9), after did that. The account live.hk can't login the server until now. so bad
yes, there is a couple of posts around about this issues.
as far as i know, the prob is worldwide.
mslive wants to sell this to the carriers, and so far in spain vodafone and movistar already have it as part of their offer.
so i guess it is not available anymore unless your carrier wants to offer this under a data plan.
WLMobile Messenger, is not available in the official webpage, but you can have still the WLMobile Mail. you just haveto look for the right link.
i dont have it right now, but i posted it in a another thread a couple of weeks ago.
hope i can be helpful.
keep me posted.
thanks

I had a similar problem and found the answer on this forum. For some reason it clashed with my asian font pack. uninstalled it and replaced with Sunglobe font pack. Look it up on the web and download it for free. no problems since - wierd hey. good luck.
Finally...MSN Working (or at least not giving the stupid connection error)
Geez...
Okay, after reading another post about a Chinese language font pack thought I would give it a go...
I removed my FontPatch2005 (chinese character thingy) and suddenly the whole thing starts working...Windows Live Mail and Messenger.
Just about re-install the fontpack and see what happens now I have gone through the login and mail setup process...
Will post the result.
Whatever
Yep...
Re-installed and once again no WML services will work...
I am using the "WM2005 Chinese Language Pack" - fontpatch.cab which I think I downloaded from somewhere on this forum.
Just removed again...and yep, all working again...
I cannot actually read chinese, so this software is not essential for me, but it looks a lot nicer when you can see the characters rather than the weird lookin boxes it displays instead.
Thanks to the previous poster for getting me to a solution, now all I gotta do is find this SunGlobe pack so I can see chinese again!
Thought I would post this just incase someone in the future has the same issue...
Whatever
My most recent problem is to do with my text messages - default app.
One of my contacts / threads has a Caution '!' triangle on it, pretty sure its just showing an unread message, but it's not very distinguishable as to read and unread - I'm damned if I can't actually find it in the thread, I don't want to delete the entire thread - is there a trick or tip to solve it guys?

At work I can't jump on to the company wifi, it has one of those web browser auth screens you have to key your login into first before it'll let you surf. A lot like at public wifi hotspots...
It doesn't accept my perfectly valid login, my old Blueangel, netbook and N95 are able to get on with no sweat.
Similarly, one of our web based tools at work doesn't have a paid for / trusted SSL cert, and my Hero (over 3G) warns me but seemingly does allow me to go further by presenting me with a login prompt, but again doesn't accept my login which is valid and keeps returning me to the prompt. I'm wondering if both these issues might be because Android just won't allow me to add SSL exceptions on its browser?
To that end I tried installing Dolphin and a few other browsers but I get no further and so have a sneaking suspicion that they just overlay over the same browser engine??
-----------------------
Hero running Android can't Bluetooth sync with my pc / Outlook and even when using the god awful HTC wired link can't sync Notes from outlook...
Even my old HTC Blueangel could accomplish such things many many moons ago, maybe I should go jump over to HTC's HD2, or does that also have crippled bluetooth capabilities as seems to be the backward trend that started with the iPhone?
I seem to remember trawling Android Market (Again) v recently and now a few developers seem to have 'Notes' sync on offer, anyone had any joy using such?
-----------------------
I just cannot get a clear shot with the camera, I'm no great photographer, any my physical disability plays part here - but I've had camera phones before and had far more success getting non blurry photos than with Hero. Is this a well documented shortcoming of the native ap? Is there a free app that makes the camera more usable perhaps?
-----------------------
I've not tried rooting or flashing my Hero phone yet, but am considering doing it if I sniff out the guide which I'm confident will be here. I just read Android commander may be a vital acquisition for reinstalling my Apps.
Ok i dont know much but i will try
Your current unrooted bluetooth is crap - i cannot get it to do anything but BT Headset connection
But if you root the phone - i used villianrom 3.0 then you have perfect bluetooth options, for syncing and sending files to other phones...
The camera is good for me, but i have to be god damn still. if i move at all it goes blur - HTC and camera's are the worse and you can get apps that do help. will try and track the names down...

This is normally to do with an un sent message, ie you have tried replying to message and for some reason (loss of signal), it was unable to send that message. Look through the thread and see if you have any triangles at all. Other than this, or deleting the thread, I cannot think of anything else.

Android Cupcake (v1.5) which is what you will have running does not support bluetooth file transfer, just bluetooth headsets. When 2.1 is out you will have full support for file transfer. At current there are developer roms out there which are based on 2.1, but not official releases so have some bugs still. Again with the camera, think 2.1 has a better camera app but I havn't got round to trying one of the 2.1 based developer roms yet. Plus, they're not brilliant cameras. I barely use mine.

Plenty of guides. You may have to check whether your phone requires the goldcard CID bypass, which mine did using T-Mobile UKs shipped rom. Just abuot to go out or I'd link you.

My response is not necessarily relevant to you, but my first Hero (brand new, bought SIM-less, GSM, October 2009), had a problem with wi-fi. Worked sometimes and not others. I finally determined it was defective, the phone. I was having other strange problems which I have never seen anyone else document here at XDA (though I haven't looked). I would very often get a SIM card error where a large graphic of a sim card displays on a home page with a red X circled around it. I eventually concluded this was also a defect.
I initially went to my T-Mobile store and got a brand new SIM card to swap - in case that was it... I had taken my well-worn T-Mobile Wing SIM Card from T-Mobile and loaded it onto the Hero from the start. There were no problems initially. Anyway, even after the swapout of a new SIM card, problem persisted. Next called HTC Tech Support (USA), they did trpoubleshooting with me, including sequential uninstalling of apps.. eventually recommending a hard reset... Which I resorted to because of BOTH the SIM card problem (when this displayed, I also could not connect to T-mo network at all) and the WIFI intermittent problem. FInally they said send it in for repair. (Not a Swapout for a new one, mind you, but a "repair", per policy).
After 2 weeks got it back with what was allegedly a replaced motherboard... The SIM problem persisted, but wifi was working reliably. Amazingly, even now HTC wouldn't commit to replacing it; then said they could only authorize warranty repair! again.
I have since bought a used HERO, and no prob at all with either of these issues. Thus, I just want to throw out a remote chance that you have some flawed hardware. I doubt it, but who knows... I guess only way to rule that out is to have someone with a Hero try to loan you a phone to try to log onto wifi at work, just to see.
Hope this was of help, just as the possibility that they DO have occasional defective hardware. good luck...
This isn't really HD2 specific but, it's the phone that I'm using so I'm putting the thread here.
I'm trying to register on Mixi. The process starts with registering and confirming a "PC" e-mail (In my case, a g-mail account). Then, filling out personal particulars etc. etc. Finally, they ask you to put in your Japanese e-mail/phone-mail/MMS-mail account to which they send a confirmation message. I get this with no problems (many thanks again to BeeGee for helping this be possible) but, when I click the link in the message I get an error message saying there was a problem with a link to the tune of "use this link if you're on a PC".
I suspect that the problem is that the phone connects to the link like a PC rather than a Japanese phone. So the site thinks that the phone is a PC.
Now, without this final step, I can't actually complete the registration process. I have heard of the .edu work-around and will resort to that if all else fails. But having a working phone-mail address I would like to be able to use that instead.

It might be that it is expected that the link is opened in one of the strange Softbank phone browsers. The type they have on their cheap phones.
What you can try is to check the settings of your browser and set it to mobile view.
This can be done in Opera under menu/settings/display.
In Internet Explorer you go to menu/Tools/Options/Other and select Mobile Device.
Third solution, put your SIM card into a Softbank phone (not WMobile), get the confirmation email there, click on the link and it will connect thru the phones browser.
Thanks for that!
Switching to mobile view didn't work in Opera or IE.
I really should have thought of that last option myself
Thanks again BeeGee!
excuse me,,
can you help me too ?

When I first recieved the Evo, everything synchronized just fine. Contacts both ways, emails, and calendar, but after about 5 hours, I started getting a notification that there were Exchange sync issues.
Whenever I would open up the accounts page under settings, I would see the sync symbol next to Contacts, repeatedly trying, over and over again. Finally, after a while, it stops, and a sync symbol with an exclamation point appears in the notification bar, as well as next to Contacts, and at the bottom of the accounts page, the same symbol with "An I/O error has occurred," explanation.
I don't understand what is going on here... as the original sync worked great. I can remove my Exchange account and re-add, and it works great for a few hours. Same thing if I wipe the phone completely, (factory reset.) The only solution I have had so far is to un-tick the Contact sync, and it seems to work okay, but obviously I need this service to work properly.
I have tried searching for a few days now and couldn't find anything really related to this. Some have had issues with reboots, and I had it BAD two days ago, and I finally wiped my phone. I do believe that there are some serious core Exchange integration problems on the Evo..
Does anyone have any insight on the matter, or should I just email HTC? Would a cooked ROM perhaps be any better?
Thanks guys

Also, this DESTROYS my battery. If I actually let it attempt to keep syncing, it's completely dead within an hour.
Also have the same issues and was searching for answers to no avail. Another problem I have is that sometimes random emails just stop showing up on the phone. I can open once and view but later they are gone even though they haven't been deleted. I obviously see them on my outlook on my computer but never see them again on the phone. I hoping an update in the future will fix these issues as I never had a problem with my Touch Pro so I'm thinking it's not the server at work.

No problem on my Pre either, and I really don't want to have to buy 3rd-party software to fix something that is supposedly integrated into the phone...
Fellas, talk to your IT dept and have them check the Exchange logs. Different versions of Exchange have different levels of administration over mobile synchronization.
I have an EAS on my EVO with no issue whatsoever.
Bear in mind, Exchange 2003 doesn't seem to like Android synching with a mailbox that was previously synched with another device. I have seen synchs crash consistently until the synch relationship is deleted on the server side.
i have zero issues with exchange on the android.
you guy can try touchdown form the market. its the best exchange app out. dataviz has road sync which is another idea. i have not used road sync but have used touchdown on the hero. it works well.. bullet proof.
i would check with your respective IT Admins and make sure they allow Android handsets to access the server. some companies do not OR recommend you use a 3rd party app (such as touchdown)
Strange, I had my phone replaced yesterday, and it worked from about 5pm to 9:45am today, perfectly... then out of nowhere, it failed, and is now in an infinite loop to sync contacts.
Something to do with Facebook
I think it has something to do with contacts that are linked to Facebook. Very Very frustrating.

I just created a ticket with my IT department to investigate the logs to see what is going on. Something tells me it's related to Sense, and not my Exchange server at all... considering that multiple Windows Mobile phones, and my Palm Pre have all worked fine... even some of my old Sprint dumbphones worked okay, when I used Sprint Email.
I would root my phone and try a standard version of Android, but isn't it Sense that does the Exchange sync? or is that built into Android at this point?

I've tried touchdown and can't even get it to create an account. I think it maybe something with my work server that these programs don't like. I know that my employer was too cheap to get an exchange server so they use some sort of activesync client that runs on the standard server. Not an IT guy so I don't know how this affects things but I do know that I had no issues like this with the windows mobile email. On top of my contacts not syncing, I still have emails that randomly disappear or no longer have a body to the email after viewing once. Very strange and very frustrating that I have no work around.
Well we are definitely using Exchange 2007, and I had to bypass our whole "ticketing system," and contact our Exchange/Outlook department secretly. I am hoping for a response in the next day or so. I bet you anything it has to do with the policy-push that happens once or twice a day... basically re-affirms your device is compliant. IE, if you went through and manually disabled your password protection, this is SUPPOSED to push out the requirement again.
One thing I should probably try, is re-wiping my phone and NEVER installing lockpicker... even though the phone is nearly non-functional without that handy utility, perhaps that can be causing issues?
Been running HTC Sense, and Exchange on my EVO without any issues for three weeks.
I have not made any changes to the original setup, other than adding about ten apps from Market Place.
Holy crap, I just got a call from two highest-level managers (with attitude, I might add,) that no one from the company is _ALLOWED_ to help me get this to work. It's an unsupported device. So are iPhones and all WM phones... so this is bizarre.
Basically, this ActiveSync service is a back-door offering, with zero support, and everyone is real hush-hush about it. My asking to investigate the logs seems to have REALLY irritated people in my company, and this is a big place. I hope I didn't create waves... damnit Android, you are ruining my life!!
What assholes. I hate these arrogant ass IT guys. They need to recognize that they are a cost center which only exist to make you a more effecient employee. If your effeciency is enhanced by using android vs a crappy blackberry, they need to make reasonable efforts to accomodate you.
I would send an email to THEIR boss, and ask him what the mission of an IT organization should be. And if he gives you crap, ask the CIO.
You don't understand... the top-dogs just made their call... the next higher up is the VP of our IT group... basically, if I bring it up again, I can consider myself terminated. I didn't realize this was such a sore subject, but apparently it is.
Apparently it has a lot to do with export control, policies, all sorts of random BS that I don't really know about. The ActiveSync service is mainly provided as a back-door 'friendly' service to help those who don't get corporate blackberries.
So it's totally unsupported, and I don't know anyone I can buy a few drinks for in order to get this fixed. I guess I'll have to work the other angle with HTC, but damnit, I already know nothing will help there. Even if they were to offer to help, my IT department would be less than willing to lend a helping hand.
Also, most of our stuff is out-sourced... but I know there are DEFINITELY people in my own building that can help me---I just don't know who, and I also don't want them getting in trouble.
It just bothers me that when the iPhone came out, there were enough 'important' people around, so that even though it's "not supported," our environment was definitely modified to work with the phone...
Le Sigh.
Man, this problem is killing me... I have delete my exchange account twice a day.
man, I wish there was a solution to this... no one else is having this issue?
You could root and get Cyans new Froyo build, it has native exchange support. There is definitely differences between HTC sense exchange and Android exchange.

Does this build support Camera and 4G? I keep hearing about these new ROMs and all their problems.
I just installed TouchDown and figured I'd give it a whirl. If the new Froyo build works on all aspects, I'd obviously rather have that. I like the integration of the stock solution. I don't like that I will have to use TouchDown for everything... calendar alerts, and everything, but we'll see. I also hate that I might have to pay $20 for something that should work out of the box...
