Hi, rather non-technical individual here. just rooted my Defy last week and went to "cm-7.1.0-11-Defy, build # Gingerbread GWK74 - CyanogenDefy 11-11-11". Incredible, almost 3x the speed, super smooth. Wow. Perfect! except for one thing: I'm on 2g but it won't kick into 3g. Any ideas? The phone is so great even without 3g that I'll almost leave it as-is. But I thought if I can *have* 3g, hey. maybe it's something easy I am unaware of? I'm very new to this. Thought about trying to re-install CM7 but would I jeopardize the very happy state of my phone? Many thanks. ['use only 2g networks' is unchecked, APM is set to the same as before root]
did you use defy baseband switcher app in the apps drawer to select your respective region and carrier type?
Incredible! Thank you so much!
Um, well, see, I saw the baseband switcher in my apps but didn't know what it was. I got brave and poked around in there and I now have 3g and sometimes H! On a 3g phone. This is too good. [plug for cm7 and SetVsel: I now have this stable, beautiful rocket in a plain brown, water-resistant wrapper. Speedtest.net=2160/858, quadrant usually about 2300, very smooth and happy-running.] Thank you thank you thank you, kind and knowledgeable soul from a faraway land.
you're welcome. merry christmas.
Similar setup and used Defy Baseband switcher app.
Still voice and data connectivity lost sometimes.
Any suggestions.

I flashed the miui rom which I love by the way. It's so clean. Even with the battery drain I can't get myself to go back to my previous CM7 final. So this is my question, what's up with the wifi calling feature? Maybe I'm just missing something. Service is crap in my house so I use wifi calling quite a bit. Please help!!!!
Thanks.
anyone know anything about this? I live in a rural area and am lucky to even get a signal. I loved this feature when I got my mytouch 4g. Miui is great and I can live with out this feature on it, but it would nice if it could be added.
Thanx ppl
There is no wifi calling with that rom it doesn't work.

Hey guys,
I was hoping I could tap your brains for some EVO knowledge. I've been rocking CM7 for awhile now and love it. The only "problem" seems to be how it handles the 4g connection. It seems like it will either use 4g OR 3g and if I turn on 4g but there is no coverage (or it drops out) it does not immediately default to 3g. I know on Sense roms that when 4g stopped, 3g kicked in. Has anybody else seen this?
I find 4G on CM7 more unstable than on sense when I use it. It's hard to keep a connection and seems to take longer to connect. One of the reasons I recently switched back to a sense rom.

I've actually experienced the opposite.
I could barely use 4G on any Sense ROM. It would spike my CPU at 100% (even after full wipes), it would disconnect and take forever to reconnect.
Since moving to CM7, 4G connections really quick and usually stays established with no problems.

Where are you reading that they updated 4G codes? Their changelog only says they changed a notifications bug and also a security hole.

They updated the code but I just realized it's only on the nightly. There is a problem with the nightly where mms wont download, so if mms is important, don't flash it yet

That's going to be in 7.1.
I've found WiMax on CM7 to be about the same as on Sense, which is to say it's flaky on both. I don't think it's really the phone or the ROM's fault. Sprint/Clear just hasn't built a strong enough 4G network to provide a good experience. Any time it constantly has to switch back and forth (which is going to be the case with the high frequencies they're running at and insufficient power or tower density to compensate), the experience won't be very satisfying.

I too am interested in this topic
I was using cm7 for a little bit...4g in chicago was slowwww to connect if it did at all...i just switched to virus's gingersense b3 and it is awesome...waiting on his kingdome port with sense 3.0 sometime tonight
i think it's pretty expected that two unpaid coders won't make as good of a code than a multi-billion/million/lotta$$$ corp can. amazing work either way though. that said, try one of the cm7.1 nightlys (any #60+ nightly, not counting stable 7.0.3, that's still 2.3.3) as the new android 2.3.4 has google's own 4g wimax coding in it.
Waiting to download the Kingdom ROM from XxXViRuSXxX. Apparently 4g works great and it has the new Sense 3.0, which is beautiful! It won't be bug free but I plan on jumping in and helping out and soon it will be a daily driver
What is cm7?
Hi all! Long time ago my friend got the HTC HD2 and he told me about chaging to Android and I be able to using a Gingerbread version (can't recall who made it). After fiding that this device use flash player I decide to get rid of my old Iphone and get a HD2 myself but when I search for the build I couldnt find it, instead I find the Stock Desire NAND ROM which I love it. After doing some reading on the forums I found out that version is from 2010 so I been searching for a new one but they look different (I bet mods) and also none have 3G data.
What im asking if somebody could point to a stock Desire ROM or Desire S that have 3G data and dunno if possible but be able to buy stuff off market because when I try to buy something I get an error. Thanks in advance.
Pretty much any ROM you see on the nand roms page supports 3g data and will let you download paid apps, just choose your favourite!

try typing *#*#4636#*#* in your phone dialer
Then navigate to phone info, scroll down and choose your prefered setting.
initially I got wcdma prefered after flashing a rom...now I use gsm(auto).
seems better for me.
Tytung's gingerbread ROM is a but buggy
Thanks all for the help but I still dont get any progress, I play with all settings and stuck on EDGE. Im using a GoPhone sim card from AT&T and I know works since on the other phone goes to 3G instantly when home (other places I go back to E)
http://shiftpda.com/showthread.php?tid=4137 ....... try this amazing gingerbread 2.3.3 with sense 3.0 rom
Also try that and same thing... I give up I cant understand why this HD2 don't wanna get into 3G mode.
[UPDATE]
After reading more I discover the TMOBILE version of the HTC HD2 DON'T get into the ATT 3G network no matter if I change the radio firmware since is a hardware issue. Thanks all who try to help me.
Hey y'all, so basically I'm using my phone as an iPod touch, and I've got some modified version of CM7 on it, it's great.
I upgraded to a faster phone for most stuff, but its not a ruggedized phone, and whenever I go camping in the woods, I just store it in the car, just in case I fall into a river or something and lose the phone.
I was wondering, what is the snappiest/quickest/fastest rom? I still want to be able to have the option of cell service, but I don't care too much about fluff/background apps and things. I just want to play music/watch a video/listen to the radio, and, if in danger, use my prepaid phone card to call for help.
If keeping my CM7 rom and tweaking it is the way to go, by all means i'll do that, but I don't really see anyone reporting lagginess/speed stuff anywhere. (which the CM7 rom definitely does, it's a bit slow at times.)
Thanks in advance everyone.
CM7's fastest at the moment, also stable

CM10 by Quarx
The CM10 (latest build) by Quarx would be a great option for you if you want to experience your defy+ flying like never before
The default launcher is a bit laggy,Instead go for Nova launcher.
Dont forget to write out your experience with CM10
I did a quick search, but I didn't see anything detailed about the difference between the two choices. I just bought a G2 since I screwed up my Note2. I have found some nifty stock apps and was now unsure if I wanted to go with CarbonRom. The remote looks like a handy app and so does the WiFi storage. If I did go with Carbon, what other "features" would I lose?
Thanks in advance.

Ah, excellent post Kickoff. Thank you.
So it looks like I lose the remote control & WiFi and a decent email client. I think I can live with that as I am not one to email from my phone much and the remote is already being worked on in the development forum. SMB sharing isn't too difficult, so the WiFi share should be an issue either.
I only wanted to type everything out in case anyone else found this thread.

There's a way to get the remote control working on an AOSP ROM:

Honestly, as soon as I bought my LG G2 I went home and right away flashed CM. Stock was too big, too ugly, and bulked up with LG apps and at&t apps. That and I also like seeing that I have 1GB left of RAM where as on stock I would only see around 500MB left of RAM (I checked the settings and this is while I was purchasing the phone at the store.)

Haha tell me about it! I don't think I'll every go back to stock! (Unless something horribly happens to my device and I'd have to revert back to stock and reflash CM11 ;P)
Just make sure that you keep up with updates, some of them are still in the "Nightly" stage and sometimes there are updates that dramatically improve the over all stability & security of the "OS"
