what is the best rom for the MT3G right now.
I tried cyanogen 3.9.11.2 and seems like it has intermitant problems unlocking the screen were it will blink horizontal lines and then after a few times then unlock fine. Seems to happen more with the device when it is warm
I have also tried both v1.3 jacxrom builds and the full v3 hero and works fine when first booted but when I lock the screen and unlock it looks like the screen is overlayed with another copy of itself but a little to the right. Almost taking one verticle line of pixels and switching it wiht the row next to it in pairs al the way across the screen. Any ideas on which one I should be running.

The new Cyanogen 4.1 that just came out is absolutely amazing. I just flashed it over on my MT3G today and have had no troubles. It's a must have.

Do you have all the tmobile apps that came with the mytouch (myfaves etc...)
Im still trying to decide whether or not to root. I have rooted "jailbroken" my iphone. Is rooting give you the same benefit as jailbraking? I mainly used the jailbreak for denied apps from the app store, themes, and tethering. Tethering is not so important (unless I'm traveling haha)

Same idea and then some. Cyan does not include myFaves in his builds but it can be added. Check the G1 forum where he posts his ROMS. I saw a post about it the other day but can't remember where. Search. When in doubt, ROOOOOOT!!! No other way to use Android IMO.

So the myfaves app that came with my mytouch ("Magic" I like that name so much better btw mytouch sounds so girly) can't be pushed to me by tmobile. I happened to me once where it completely disappeared from my phone and cs refreshed my myfaves and i got it within 5 min. I guess its not a big deal if I can download it. How about the other apps like youtube, android market; will they work as they would on a non rooted mytouch?
The main thing stopping me from rooting is that I can't return it to the original factory state like I could for my iphone. Not sure how stuff works on android (im still a noob with this OS) but on the iphone it wasn't a big deal to jailbreak as it just modifies just a small part of the OS to allow non apple approved apps/themes etc... but with this its like it flashes a whole different OS. How about all the new updates like donut etc...that we will get ota. I guess the devs here will include all those features in their new ROMs (as they are doing now) so that is not such a big deal.
Thanks for the quick answer btw.

Sorry for not answering your response as quickly as the first answer. I can't speak for the iPhone but the G1/myTouch (I have both) are a MUST root IMO. I think having total control over the phone and OS is so important. As far as Market, YouTube, etc. they all work. Every app works, as far as I am concerned and I have 225 apps (all paid for if they weren't free) installed. As far as updates are concerned, the devs here are months ahead of Google and TMO. Cyanogen (best ROMs here, IMO, if you aren't into Hero and things like that) already has some Donut stuff in his stable 4.0.1 ROM and adds quite a bit of cool features in his experimental ROMs. You can also add bits from other devs if Cyan doesn't include something you like. Cyan does not include myFaves (I forget why) but it can be added after. Just search around for that. Even without the app on your phone, you can always update them online and still make free calls to your faves. It just won't show on the phone, that is unless you have the "after market" app installed. Hope this helps. And like I said, root is absolutely the way to go. Nothing frightening. In fact, I feel more comfortable with tools like Nandroid built-in so I can always restore my phone if/when I mess something up or install and unstable ROM/theme. I flash almost daily for that reason.

wow dude you have been a lot of help, I feel a lot more about rooting now (wow you flash almost everyday haha awesome). I think I'm gonna try it tonight haha.
So I wont need to restore to the original shipped state if I ever need to do a warranty claim?
oh yeah so should I flash cyanogen 3.9.X.X or 4.0.1 ( I know 3.9.X.X has some donunt features but its experimental...but is it better?)

So it looks like sense ui from the hero? I heard all those roms are slow due to the ram limitation on the mytouch (192mb) vs the hero (288mb)
btw I have a class 2 card too as of right now so that is good to know
JACxHero is not a hero port its a regular cupcake with hero type theme and htc music port try it out have nothing to lose really

I am a noob, but if you use search option you will find out that JacHero needs latest Radio and SPL which is 2005. One click method doesnt change it. I still have 2006, "perfect".
you can always use the old method just follow the instructions step by step don't feel discourage ... but you must and i repeat follow each step ... one... by ..one

was reading on android central up on a 1.6 build which has the nexus one style which looks really nice.

you can download it on page 7 but you will also need google bits which i am right now trying to install. but having trouble
That dev is also a member of this site, so technically it is picked up here. Just don't think ther's a thread.
yeah their are a few downloads and .apks for the htc keyboard, just seeing some problems with sms, bluetooth and data occasionally.
I know I am no dev, but would love to just see a rom with the nexus one style.
and yeah he says he comes here, but I havent seen much about it on xda, so wanted to help its progress by atleast shedding some light on it.
oo nice thanks for that

Yup. I mostly lurk here. A bit too much drama . I even forgot my original login and pass lol.
I've had to halt development on this one (mostly) as I simply don't have time. Crisis at work, and real life sucks. It's no fun spending 16 hours a day with a bluetooth in each ear glued in front of a PC. I only have time to focus on one project in my free time. I still monitor the thread at Android Central, so I help where i can.
Just wanted to add credit goes to quietcblongs for the fixes to even get this partially running. Any monkey can grab the source from git and type make in the terminal. Without his work this would just be a toy for me to play with on my Ion, and even then not everything works.
i would love to see this take off, to bad bt doesnt work because I use it everyday. i just want a 1.6 or higher on my hero with a nexus one look, (as does everyone else probably lol)
I would like to see a melding of this with the 1.6w/live wallpapers
Where is there a 1.6 with live wallpapers? I've only seen the 2.0.1...
i tried live wallpapers on this build, no go, got the phone to recognize them, was even able to install from market, just force closes on the picker, i like the launcher on this and the camera that works, but it ill not be my daily rom, going back to 2.0.1

forgot that LW was from the nexus 2.1 would have been cool though
That thing looks sliiiiick as hell..is it stable?..does the camera,phone,texting/pic mail work?...
Just played around with this ROM and it was brilliant. I couldn't get the Touch Input to work at all though, and Lockbot didn't work and forceclose. For those two reasons I had to revert back to Fresh.
But this sneak peak at something better than 1.5 was a real breath of fresh air. Thanks to all the devs.
This looks good. Going to Nandroid and flash this when I get home.
Any reports on this ROM's stability? Could this be used day to day?

if you dont use bt or headphones then yes
I must say that I am very impressed at this point. Only issue I'm having is difficulty pulling up the Market. Doesn't seem to want to load the EULA or whatever it makes you accept after every wipe while on EVDO. I switched to WIFI and it let me right in. No problem accessing protected apps either... I just installed Evernote.
Nice to have something fresh to play with for my Hero.
I would flash this rom, but I do use headphones to listen to music. I also heard that there are some MMS issues, confirm/deny?
First off, I want to say that this ROM rocks and the sheer speed alone has made me not even care about sense. I was a little hesitant on flashing this thinking I would miss sense but as stated earlier, the speed of the rom more than makes up for it.
I have been rather fortunate with my experiences using this rom. My text messages work as well as my headphones. I was suprised that my headphone jack works as I have read for the most part that headphones arent working with this rom. Looks like I have gotten lucky.
I have decided to use this as my daily driver and the only issues that I've experienced at this point is just lack of bluetooth and speaker phone which have already been mentioned and aren't deal breakers for me. Big thanks to the devs and keep up the awesome work!

Couple of questions for Atrix owners running the latest update. Can I get your feedback on these?
- How is flash performance on the Atrix? Is it smooth or is it choppy?
- How hard is it to enable 3rd party installs (don't care about full root or anything else) just being able to install apps outside Market
- Is the screen really that bad? Saw it in a store and it looks great to me.
- Does the phone every spontaneously reboot or is unstable? I need something that'll be super stable
- I can always replace Blur launcher with LPP or ADWEX but are there other customizations Moto has that are extremely annoying? Anyway to get around them without new ROM?
- How are you overall satisfied with the phone?
- How is signal strength? Lot of dropped calls or none?
I'm looking more for people who haven't rooted and/or just did the 3rd party install hack. I know rooted folks will probably be installing a new ROM but I'm looking for stock experience. I have CM7 running on an Inc and honestly, it's great but there's not a huge difference between Froyo and Gingerbread in most day to day tasks.

1. I don't use too much flash, but it seems pretty smooth to me on the sites I have used.
2. You have to root to enable non-market apps. You can always sideload with ADB, but that's different. Rooting was easy.
3. The screen is great for text and graphics, but looks meh to me for videos. My wife's iPhone 4 has a prettier-looking screen, but it's smaller.
4. I had one reboot once. That's in 10 days of ownership. I was using Maps or Navigation or something.
5. MotoBLUR can be annoying, but you can mostly get around it. There is an issue with getting email notifications when using Corporate Sync with Exchange Server 2003. Other than that it's not too intrusive. The accounts set-up is done through BLUR, too.
6. I am mostly satisfied with the phone, but I miss flashing roms and would love to get AOSP on this. MotoBLUR isn't my favorite. Battery life isn't stellar, but it gets me through a day with moderate use.
7. Never had a dropped call. I had to laugh when I still had full bars and my wifes iPhone said "no signal" the other day while driving.

3rd party app enabling is super easy with fool Proff rooting technique. I've had one spontaneous reboot and that was after rooting.... not an issue got phone on release date.changing launcher is easy and no motobblur doesn't have extra crap to slow Yu. My call quality is amazing and I have had 0 drops (Buffalo NY) and the screen is crisp crsip crisp. I love the screen dunno why ppl hate it compares to my iPhone 4

Even with the latest software, there's no issue rooting and enabling 3rd party install?
Is there a simple instruction thread out there? The only one I saw was rather large and old.

You have to downgrade to the original shipping firmware to root initially, and the script preps the device for the update. Then you do the update. Then you run another script. Then you're on the latest and you have root. Done and done.

Yup, very easy. Just make sure you follow the instructions to the letter. I also installed Gingerblur, and my phone is so much better now!
I just rooted last night and did the upgrade. It was really easy so I'd consider doing it as soon as possible. Consider that if you do the OTA 1.5.7 update without root you won't have any backup utilities to save your data if you want to get root, and thus have to downgrade.

From what I've read on the Moto forums it is limited to Exchange 2003. I have no way to test whether that is true because all I have access to is 2003.
I get notifications sometimes, but it's spotty.

Sirs,
How are you all doing? this is my very first post and I decided to ride dirty with the android OS finally (I'm late..) Originally coming from that dead Symbian OS environment.. I love customization and everything related to tinkering the phones hardware and software..
So now I am about to buy a used galaxy S I9000, I just want to know what are the things to look for this used android unit? I can see it's just slightly used so what will I look for aside from the outside appearance? How about in the software itself?
I only know that the phone is on GB 2.3.3 I think and it has like a custom way of killing apps, launching..really it's my first time on android and I need professional advises and this is the best site to ask from, I know.

If you really want android ride on SGS, keep yourself ready for be here on xda regularly for help (you tasted it already)and hacks,be ready to root your phone and be ready to reboot your phone n number of times(sometime it does auto ) and be ready to get a mixed feeling, sometime it makes you happy and sometimes you would like to throw it away.

Unless you're installing the latest beta ROMs or custom ROMs, this phone is actually very stable and reliable for day to day use. And the UI is fast and responsive enough on 2.3.3. In any case, in terms of reliability and speed, the SGS is miles ahead of any Symbian device.
Wtf???
Mate. He said he likes to customize.
I have nothing but good things to say about my phone. Gps is accurate and always has been. I knocked back an sgs2 upgrade to wait for next nexus.

Guys,
My use of phone dialer, messaging and call logs comes under basic use.
And dialer lags, contacts gives message 'no additional info available' and then shows number.no matter which rom you use.
Even dialer removed from memory.
I have 2 phones in house one running stock 2.3.3 and one 2.3.5 so I am not imagining anything.
Dont reboot phone for a week and see what happens.
If it was all that good, all the ram tweaks, kernel tweaks, optimization tweaks, wouldn't even exists.
If your expr. & opinion differs post it.

Again thanks!
PS how to enter to download mode?
I'll try first dealing with the stock roms, is there any 2.3.7 GB for galaxy cause I see it everywhere along with the CM7? is that an official firmware or CM7 based on that OEM firmware? maybe when I want more, that's the time I'll do a CM7 flash..what about skype video calling or google talk? is it good in this phone?

I will be using this phone for everyday use, k?
Another important thing to look for: if it enters Download Mode [Vol Down + Home + Power]
If not, it can be fixed, but it involves a little risk. This would be the only risky thing you'll do software wise, after your Download Mode works, it's very hard to brick the phone.

2.3.7 was a Nexus upgrade that added things like NFC, which most phones do not have the hardware to support this. CM7 uses Nexus source code. I don't believe anything helpful for you was added/changed.
And try not to believe the crap these people are spewing. My contacts, diallers, and whatever else that guy was rambling about are just fine. And obviously that is not a problem across all ROMs, considering most ROMs use different apps (for example, Samsung apps aren't run on AOSP ROMs—and I haven't seen this problem on either).
Good luck! It's an exciting phone.
wow, thanks to all of your advices dudes! what would be a good protector for this phone aside from the screen guards?
hey all, been searching through tons of reviews and support threads to make sure the razr m will be my next phone. i love everything i see. my one concern is the roms... i refuse to use stock rom.. i do see that cm has got a few releases but nothing that i see looks final yet. anyone got some good links to share, i know there has too be a few good ones out there considering some of the screenshots i see and with the amount of popularity it looks like the razr m is getting. well anyway, i would love to see some support from some of you that have been using it for awhile, thanks in advance for any advice/tips/roms you all can lead me to!
Yes ROM selection isn't overwhelming but particularly the energy ROM, at the top in development section is more than good enough for me. I got this phone after losing my galaxy s3 and it kicks ass. I actually like it better after using it a couple weeks..the battery life in by far the best compared to the 10+ other 'higher-end' android phones I've owned.

I love my Razr M, especially in regard to the excellent battery life and slim size (I think phones like the Note that can't even fit in your pocket are ridiculous). I've tried Energy rom and it was fine, but I prefer the Eclipse rom, mostly just for the look of it. I also prefer having a fourth menu softkey, I'd gotten used to that on my droid charge, very useful. I'm using the Nova launcher (highly recommended) over the Eclipse Rom and couldn't be happier. Super smooth and I've made it look exactly the way I want it to.
Eclipse rom here:

ha! I, too, came from the droid charge. so, battery life was key for me (as well as pocket-size). stock ROM is actually fine - granted, it likes the aesthetics of the custom ROMs, but it does just fine for me.
biggest draw back is memory storage. I would use a custom ROM, but my phone lacks sufficient space b/c I cannot transfer my apps to the external card (despite my best efforts).
I bought this phone on a kind of whim when it was on sale for 50$. I left tmobile too. I can say I have no regrets and haven't looked back since. I was a little disheartened at the lack of development too, but honestly besides a few app specific hang ups this phone doesn't NEED a rom the way my vibrant or s2 did. Everything just works. So don't be down on the lack of roms because the phone stock is still a beast.

If you like CM I would check out trippin bean ROM over at droidrzr.com by marxman. It is truly a nice ROM especially if you prefer CM over a stock based ROM. Having said that energy ROM is awesome as is eclipse which is stock based but has all aosp apps instead of the blur apps. We have noticed the lack of quantity of ROMs but the quality is what makes up for it. Welcome aboard!

great
thank you all for the responses! seems like a great community.. i checked my tracking info and i should have my razr m by tomorrow afternoon.
all the roms and root method you talk about is perfectly fine on the verizon retail version correct? i hope its not dev only.. also is the m's screen as "pixely" as what some reviews say it is? tbh i dont always have a good eye for "true" hd screen, but i do for pixels.. whats your guys thoughts on it? i am not really one to sit down and watch a full movie on my phone, but it does happen time to time..

since the resolution is 960/540 there are instances for me where i feel like the display could be a pinch cleaner but honestly (again) i have been used to the screen on the gs3. I have perfect vision and while yes pixels are sometimes noticeable, it is minor and miniscule and doesnt affect my viewing experience negatively.

memory space
so there really is no way to move apps to your ext. sd card? wont that be a huge hassle with the 4.3 gigs that it has onboard? or is that number that i found not rite?

In my experience, correct. Others have claimed to have found work around.

You can still root the retail edition. After you root, install Safestrap and you will be able to load custom ROMs. There are plenty of guides out there on the procedures, so I won't go into detail.
Personally, I didn't base the purchase of my phone purely off of development. Have you looked at the other phones out there? They all seem cheaply made and fragile. The build quality/materials and size of the M are what sold me. There is now enough development out there to keep me occupied. I ran the CM10 based Trippin' Bean for a while, but I didn't like the inconsistency of some things, so I changed over to Energy ROM. I've been on it for about three weeks. I like the theme and I like the fact that everything is 100% working.

oh i love the way the phone is built as well, thats initially what caught my eye. i thought eclipse looked more for me... u say energy is 100% working, are you implying that eclipse rom is not?
Eclipse ROM
I have bee using the Eclipse rom for about 3 weeks now and it works great. I aslo got it installed on the stock Slot with safestrap. (check the Eclipse forum for how to do it, Around page 18 or so. I have found that all components work. (have not tested tethering, but supposedly it works). I especially like the inverted gapps, and the pop up text messaging feature. Its really convenient. I have not tried the Energy rom, because the Eclipse meets my needs well. Also the battery life is fantastic, way better than the Stock. Also I am using Apex launcher pro, and love it. The 4.2 Camera and google sound search is a plus as well.
P.S. If you buy a launcher; you can use it with every rom you try! Feel free to PM if you have questions-
storage space

hey, got my razr m today got it setup (besides looks). anyway i know you said you didnt want to use a custom rom because of the lack of space. i found a long process in which you can actually just install a custom rom over the stock rom slot in safestrap. it does take awhile but you will have the same amount of space as you did on the stock, actually i think i have a little more because of all the bloatware that is gone. but ya i have read and read and tried every app on the market to try to move apps to the sd card, i dont think it is a razr m thing i think it is a jellybean thing, not sure, but after reading its definetly aint just the razr that dont have the option. anyway if you want me to go into detail on how to flash over the stock rom slot i will, or you may already know the trick, just lemme know. thanks again, and ya it really is a great phone, you all was rite.

do share, my friend - is it the same as the previous poster mentioned about the Eclipse ROM? i would like to give Energy a whirl though.
I did elsewhere that ROMs cannot be installed on the stock slot, but I might be willing to try this method. I'm already rooted with everything backed up using TiBu. my battery life is already incredible (sometimes as much as 40% when I go to sleep), so the only real advantage for me is just aesthetics.

yes, i just now went to the post he was talking about, a few people mention it on page 17 on the eclipse rom sticky post, wish i would have seen that post in the first place, ya really all you do is install it to slot 1, back that slot up, activate the stock slot and do a restore of the backup you made from slot 1 with the custom rom on it. then go back and delete the original off of slot 1. you should end up with about 4.4g of internal i believe is what it was before i added anything to it. also when you do the backup of that slot, any apps that you have installed will not be removable once you do the restore, it kinda acts like bloatware that they dont want you to remove, so make sure you like whatever you have on the original backup. also i wiped the data/cache/dalvik before and after the restore, i dunno if that makes a difference or not, and i also did this with the eclipse rom, i do not know if this will work on others or not. anyway, its a cool trick to help with the already terrible internal storage, i think i can deal with 4.4g, im not really a gamer on my phone so i dont see an issue. the eclipse rom seems much faster from stock as well, i cant really say much about the battery life because i was only stock for a few hours. good luck!

As far as I know, Eclipse is 100%. I chose Energy for the theme, but Eclipse has a few more tweaks.

It is the same method. I have yet to do this because I have plenty of space in my Slot 1.
Check this out for installing on stock:

I think someone over on Droidrazr.com was able to get it to work. Have fastboot ready just in case, though.
