I bought a Cingular 8125 from a seller on another forum and it arrived with a broken LCD. Also, the battery is dead and can't be charged. (Not to mention the missing stylus and lots of scratches on the case... all for a "like new" phone... but I digress.)
I was able to borrow a battery from a coworker with the same phone, and it does power on. The screen is all white with multicolored splotched around the cracks in the LCD. I was also able to hook it up via USB and browse it through Activesync, so I'm guessing the phone is running.
Is there any other way I can test that it's going to work before I invest in a new LCD/digitizer? Another coworker mentioned there might be an emulator I could run on my PC to control the device and place calls with it, does such a thing exist?
Finally, does anyone have experience with a particular ebay sell of LCDs that they could recommend? I've seen a bunch listed in the $50-$60 range, including shipping. Does anyone have any suggestions on a source for replacement LCDs other than ebay?
Thanks,
-Brett.
your not sol yet.
Well to answer your questions in order;
Yes there is something that will let you control and make calls useing your computer, its called SOTI Pocket Controller, look for it.
I bought a mda with a broken lcd on purpose cause after looking into it i found that replacing the lcd isn't so hard. i bought my lcd from ebay and my phone is running great ever since the repair. your going to need to get the service manual and a new lcd ofc, also a torx #5 (type of screw driver) and a #0 phillips head.
good luck with your phone

I'll look for a copy of the SOTI Pocket Controller, that's exactly what I was looking for.
I've already downloaded the service manual, I've got the screwdriver, I can pick up a torx.... but what did you mean when you said "and a new lcd ofc"? Is that "a new lcd of course"?
Also, do you remember who you bought the LCD from since you seemed to have a good experience?
Thanks!
-Brett.
!
Glad I could help, yea I meant of course, sorry lol. im 1337.
i cant remeber but it was some random company that sold refurbished lcd's, just pick one that has a good rating and a decent price and hope for the best, sorry its all the advice i can give=/.

Hi pal, try this software, this software allows you to control your phone from pc with mouse and many other things. It is called my mobiler and i use it very often.
1) Connect your phone through AS
2) Let my mobiler install cabinet on your phone
3) Run it an click on the system tray where is the symbol of the phone and cable and select open mobiler, this will show you your screen.

Hey Brett, I've got some info you need to look into when buying a replacement lcd, there are two types that i know of, their distinct differences are the fact that one has a black flex cable, and the other has a gold one(One is the first generation lcd, and the other is the second generation). I made the mistake of not opening my 8125 after i bought it the same way you bought yours, with a broken screen... I bought an lcd with a gold ribbon cable(back when they were $90+) and it worked with my 8125 except the colors were mixed a.k.a. not as they should be. I bought another lcd(yes, another $90+ since the seller didn't offer a return policy) which matched the color of the old cracked lcd that came in my 8125(the ribbon/flex cable was black). And all was perfect!
So if you haven't yet, take your 8125 apart and make sure you know what lcd it has. Ebay listing for these lcds are pretty definitive on whether they use an lcd with a black or gold ribbon cable. Good luck!
Thanks for the tip! I was checking them out on ebay and I did notice that some sellers made it clear there was a difference.
I bought a T5 torx driver this weekend and managed to get the back of the phone off, exposing the main board.... but didn't get any further than that. I'll have to check the color of the ribbon before I order.
Do you remember if yours was a refub LCD or not? I've seen all but one seller (who was located in Hong Kong) are selling refub units. I'd prefer a new one, but I also don't want to wait 2 weeks to get something form Hong Kong. Any problems with a refurb?
Thanks,
-Brett.
I'd like to know myself the difference between a refurb unit and a new unit. Maybe they replace the digitizer of faulty lcds and then resell the "fixed" units, or maybe there is some other thing about the lcds that make them impossible to sell as new~
Btw my lcd (as it was claimed by the seller) was new. I got it in the mail from Hong Kong inside of bubble wrap and Hong Kong Newspaper post. I looked at the lcd and it sure looked brand new, new enough to immediately apply a screen protector before i installed it into my pda(so that the screen protector covers ALL of the screen and doesn't miss the corners or the sides, it's the best way to apply a screensaver if you ask me).

ewww...vista.
i dont even think microsoft really supports vista the way you would like for using your MDA. Best way to do anything to your phone (and what most of these roms seem to require) is Win XP.
For some reason microsoft wanted to change the way things were handled and I for one am not really happy with it.
Figured this might be the best place as ever. Before I part my Wizard and pay some large fee for a 8525.
Has anyone seen problems with the screen flickering and going mostly white/gray (with lines).
I had dropped my phone a few weeks back - I bought a replacement screen on Ebay and swapped it out - worked great for two weeks. All of a sudden, on Saturday night it went from working to just flickering. Could the new LCD's cable have gone bad? Anyone seen this?

I had problems the first time I replaced my screen where I turned it on and it was completely white. Turns out I didn't have the connector properly seated. I took everything apart and made sure to fully seat the cable into the connector close the little clamp securely. After that it worked fine.
It might be worthwhile to take the phone apart again and make sure the ribbon cable connector hasn't come unseated.
Good luck!

Yeah, I have the phone in pieces right now. I've tried blowing out the connector/etc. Going to try to clean it.
Btw, sorry about the thread hijack. I meant to post this in another thread for Wizard repairs, somehow got sidetracked and dropped it here.

Thank you for your help. I have now replaced the LCD from China but the expansion slot would not recognise any card. Did I do something wrong? Thanks in advance.
my g1 has a ripped long coaxial cable that connects from the umts board to the motherboard...
when i put the phone back together that cable was too close to a screw and the screw pinched and ripped it in two spots, and i already tried connecting it back together and taping it but didnt work...
so now i have a perfect looking and perfect working rooted g1, but with no signal or reception lol. but wifi still works.... weird.
anyway, i need a new longg coax cable and know where to find one online but they dont sell them separate
they sell long coax cables with the gps chip for $40 and all i need is the cable.... can anyone help or point me in another direction??
i appreciate any help!
heres what i need:
[img=http://img193.imageshack.us/img193/8814/coaxxxxxxxxxxxx.th.jpg]
so if anyone has a bricked g1 and wanna sell me that cable, id really appreciate it!
I assume this would work...if not...it's only $1.99.
http://cgi.ebay.com/U.FL-cable-pigt...,-Antenna_W0QQitemZ150371374952QQcmdZViewItem
wow thank you soooo much! im gonna order one and i hope it works!!! i really appreciate your help =]
while that one looks to have the correct Hirose ends, it is 6" long...its gonna be a tight fit to get it in the case! I already sold my spare long cable, I wish someone would put a screw through the short one for once!
That's a good deal! Let us know how it fits. That long coax is a beeeotch. I did the same thing to my g1.
I also have to get this coax cable replaced, Any idea if the one from ebay is the same and gets the job done?
got it right now, doesnt work... wayyy to big
damn, that sucks
does anyone know where to get the cable for 40??? i dont wanna pay that much but its my only option and i cant find anyone who even has them in stock
anyone know someone who has them in stock??? thanks
$40?! I sold mine for $10, guess I sold it too low! hahaha
We need a place to part these things out, I sold most of my dead one but I have been thinking about buying a few more cracked ones to part out. If they are getting $40 for the coax cable, I WILL be breaking a few more!
its 40 bucks cause it comes with the umts board like in the pic i posted in the first post.
they dont sell the cables by themselves
cellulardr.com is where I saw the gps chip and cable.
Eeek
Ironically this same thing just happened to me yesterday- ive been panicking all day trying to just "stick" the two ends (i cut the wire and cleaned up to ends) together- nothing works
I am getting no signal but there is a sim present- i tried a factory reset (obviously didnt work)
I just ordered that wire from ebay for 1.99- im worried however that it will be to big, I know that the wires from a laptop are often bigger than in a mobile phone..
If this doesnt work out- are there any other places I can look to get just that wire without a whole new phone?
Also- why is it called the GPS antenna when it seems that its inhibiting the cellular signal...?
http://www.hirose.co.jp/cataloge_hp/e32119372.pdf
Found this in that ebay listing just now- if you look through it there is a line like this:
Plugs are terminated with ultra-fine coaxial
(fluorinated resin insulated) cable
Standard ultra-fine coaxial cable of 0.81mm diameter (single
braid shielding) is used for the plug termination, assuring secure
and stable connections.

I think that ".81mm" is a good sign... i dont have a caliper here but looking at the wire from my phone in comparison to a wire I ripped from a laptop here (newer toshiba that was served a cup of coffee sometime after its warranty was up) you can see that the g1 coaxial cables (on the right side of the picture attached) are indeed sub millimeter.
Perhaps this means we can fix these problems for 2 bucks (well 5 after shipping)
granted i have no clue what im going to do with 6inches of that... guess it will be stuffed away somewhere in there...
I hope that doesn't effect my signal either- would a longer cable produce any sort of lag between the motherboard and the antenna module?
I scanned this for you guys
Looking for this part too.
sorry to be blatant but u're stupid. it doesn't work, i just ordered it. wasted my money. next time, if you dont know what u're talking about just please STFU, ass hole.
UFL is the size that a wifi card inside a laptop uses, it is WAY too large. PM sent
Obviously..
Yeh the wire posted on ebay is too big- i ended up just buying a broken g1 for 80 bucks.. all the spare parts i need now minus the main circuit bored which was damaged by water apparently (assuming screen digitizer works though)
well i ordered one a few weeks ago and it was a little long but worked perfect. i made the extra length fit into the phone and works perfect havent had one thing go wrong. i have an extra one if anyone wants to paypal me some money and ill send it to you in an envelope. guaranteed to work like a charm!!!
Alright, let me keep this simple. I was charging my Nexus 4 on my wireless charging orb yesterday. I did not notice that it was slipping off the orb since I was eating, and by the time I finally noticed, it fell to the ground. When I picked it back up, I noticed that the back of the phone was cracked. The crack on the backside was pretty bad that it actually affects the camera; when I try to take a picture, I noticed that there is a really bright area on the bottom of the picture (most likely from the cracks). I bought the N4 from day 1 and got it a week after, so I don't think calling Google Play support would help me there. If I call LG and explain to them that the cracks were caused by the phone slipping off the orb, would they allow me to send it in for repair under the limited warranty provided along with the phone?
UPDATE: I just called LG and just asked for how much it would be to repair it. Did not explain or anything. They told me that it could be $140-200; could be more, could be less. Is there any other cheaper alternatives to getting the back cover fixed? I really don't want to pay that much, but if there is nothing I can do, then I might as well.

Seriously Doubt LG will repair it without cost... Mainly because you shouldn't have set the phone so close to the edge of the table/desk when it was being held up by rubber and magnets. Its not impossible for it to slip off.. Specially IF you have a case on the phone, which reduces the strength of the magnets grip.
No cheaper way to get it fix other than through LG.. At least none that I have found.
There aren't 't any magnets in the orb that hold the Nexus 4. I've heard the back late is easy to change. Maybe you can find one cheap on ebay or somewhere else and change it yourself.

Could you please edit the title of your post? This is very misleading. The orb did not damage your phone. It's sudden stop on the floor is what damaged your phone.

@OP I'm gonna suggest you do a search for replacement back. Don't take me wrong, not trying to be a prick. I'm driving and wanted to let you known there might be an alternative. There are 1-2 threads, one guy asks people to pm him to buy the back. Also I think its simple to replace it by just removing the two screws. One thread a guy mentions he sent his back to LG and it cost him $64 total and two weeks. There are backs online about $35-50.
Hope that helps
The glass on my nexus 4 has cracked couple months ago after falling 1-2 feet from my table. Only recently I decided to replace it with the Display + Frame kit in order to avoid all the mess with the heat gun. Replacement was a piece of cake, very easy phone to work with. Sadly, there are bad news. The touch screen is ghosting and being erratic. I bought the replacement from ebay, linked below, and have messaged seller about replacement.
I tried to save couple bucks, but now I will have to ship it back for RMA and have to deal with down time. The unit does not look like a cheaply made clone, but the labeling is pretty much copy and paste with weird font, suggesting that the item might be clone. Now take a look at replacement from repairuniverse website. The touch screen controller has a version number on it, which is 1.1 The original screen on my N4 is version 1.0 (1238). If I am not mistaken, the new touch screen fixes the issue of random minor-ghosting which I did have form factory.
I will try the RMA replacement, but if that does not work, where can I buy the quality touch screen with frame? Is the one sold by repairuniverse as good as it gets?

My sister smashed up her phone a few months back (Nexus 4), and then a few weeks later my girlfriend did the same thing to her Nexus 5. I ordered both replacement screens from ETradeSupply (here's the N4 one: http://www.etradesupply.com/oem-lg-...nd-digitizer-assembly-with-front-housing.html) and while they are definitely pricey they have been working so far without issue.
I feel they are overpriced though and there might be a cheaper and just as reliable solution.

Would you say that those were original parts or counterfeit? Judging by the pictures, they look like original, but then on ebay the seller put up pictures of original replacement and sold counterfeit. The biggest giveaway is probably labels of ribbon cables.

I am not sure, their site says OEM but I do remember there being some strange gold stickers on them that weren't on the busted screens. A few of the sticky tabs (like the one that sits under the camera, and the one under the micro USB port) also did not look the same. Everything else did though, like the radio cables etc., were all the same color. Honestly I don't know for sure.
You should go with spareslg.com. They are the only site I know that appears to sell brand new service packs. Bear in mind you should replace the battery as well, it is impossible for the average person to reuse the battery after a screen replacement.

I will keep spareslg.com in my although they are outside of my region.
Why would the battery need to be replaced? Because of possible damage when taking it out?
I found it easier to take everything out first, and battery last. It is easier to pry the battery on the side where antenna cable is taped.
You can try reuse it. I've seen cases where people have done that and then 2 weeks later it has swollen so much it cracks the back of the phone. LG would replace your battery if they fixed the screen.
Nothing is impossible with right tools and patience I have changed lcd and back glass few months ago and still using old battery without any problems ...

working fine. for some reason the price for this changes lots i got it for 78 but it shows now for 73.00 plus ship and import, I have seen him list it for 300.00 don't know whats up with that. note proximity sensor is very finicky when changing screens. In my case turning the rubber seal around fixed it on 2 screens.

You can check the lg website for Portugal. They will link to spareslg.com for OFFICIAL parts. So there are some global websites that will sell you OEM spare part. They are in my region but for what I see they ship worldwide.

So here is another update. I have put away my broken N4 and used HTC Amaze 4G for quite a while. Recently Amaze began to have issues with touch screen until part of it stopped working all together.
Figured I would give ebay another try. Seller is wholesalegadgetfix, item number 151206512431. Item is listed as OEM, but when I asked the seller they weren't sure. Whatever, placed an ordered and received it today.
First of all, the unit looked OEM-ish. Synaptics MC was clearly labeled and its ribbon cable was stamped with few numbers and Rev 1.1 Display ribbon cable had markings with numbers that are similar to updated actual OEM item.
Overall, markings look OEM, but not necesarly in right place. Frame itself is OEM. Tried to test the unit before assembly but it was almost impossible, therefore, I proceeded with the install.
Right off the bad, no issues with touchscreen like previous ebay unit had, at least not yet *fingers crossed*. Display quality looks good, although I don't remember what original looked like.
One bad thing about it. There is slight light-bleeding at the bottom left where back button is. It's not terrible, but I imagine it won't be a big issues with translucent bar. After-all, this is my best phone option as of now.
Sorry for bumping an old thread.
Hey guys,
it seems that every smartphone i own breaks after ~18 months... Now my Z3 is finally gone, i guess.
Problems:
Blurry Pictures, i guess a coating of the lens went off?
One "system UIDs inconsistent" error, since then, whatsapp had "damaged databases" for at least 20 times - factory resettet twice, no difference
REAL bad touchscreen response from time to time. It either doesn't detect inputs at all or thinks you already lifted your finger. Super annoying, especially when typing.
Glas on front AND back is getting loose. The adhesive doesn't hold the phone together anymore
I can shrug off the first two problems (that's something i could have lived with), but not with the bad adhesive tape (??) that doesn't hold the phone together properly. You can look under the screen, it's not that far out (yet!) on the backside of the phone. Has anyone had that problem before? The phone was looked after well, i haven't dropped it, it was ALWAYS in a case. It had a glass screen protector until the touchscreen response got too bad (it didn't get any better after i removed it though).
As for my bad luck, i dropped the phone for the first time ever about an hour ago, since then the power button can't be pushed in properly anymore. The screen survived it miraculously, even though it sticks out quite a bit. I wanted to send it in for repairs next week.
I have the back sticking out problem . I'm using a case now because the service centre says they need 15 days to repair it
Sent from my D6653 using Tapatalk
I had the same issue with the glass not glued to the chasis anymore. It wasn't sticking out so badly as urs but I took it to repair centre and they repaired it for me. I had also USB charger burn marks on my LCD, so they changed my screen to a new one. I'd recommend you to take it to repair centre. I tried to heat up the adhessive but it didn't work out quite as planed. After the repair it was ok. But then another story happened. WHich isn't connected to this one.
When the glass is lose, you lose the waterproof ability too. The phone can easily take damage from any kind of moisture.
Waterproof ability? Nah, USB seal is gone anyway. It went about a year ago, so i get why there are so many damaged Sony smartphones... They should include a magnetic charging cable in the box. Thanks for reminding me with the screen, the display also has irregular lighting with a corona just above the on screen buttons. Battery runtime also reduced by 50% (9hrs SOT when new; 4.75hrs now after factory reset, i guess they decreased their battery-saving modes with every new android version).
I still have my old red HTC One M7, so repair time won't be an issue. I guess i won't change back to the Z3 but sell it when it's repaired, because it feels too big in my hands and i never liked it quite as much. Funny; I bought the Z3 when i send in my One M7 for repairs (bad camera lens [purple tint], lens cover broke by itself (was not repaired), buttons far to wide inside housing (not repaired) and some other stuff). Every of my 4 smartphones broke after max. 18 months.

Yeah, there are quite a lot broken Sony phones, especially in this area(Screen). I completely agree with you about the magnetic charging cable. I had an issue with that also. I've never reached 9hrs of SOT, I've got this phone for like 6 months or so. Never had it more than 6 hours.
About the updates- yeah. As i've heard, it has decreased by every update. The best battery was with KK, but when I bought it, I already had 5.1.1 preinstalled. It is a good phone, serves all my needs for sure. Doesn't lagg and so on. THere are few things I dislike about it, the camera is underperforming for such a lense and specs. But not terribly underperforming. Think my recent phone (LG G3 ) was taking better shots. It eventually breaks. I had my phone taken to warranty repair twice. Once for screen getting lose, and the LCD burn marks. And then I took it to warranty repair because my camera became blurry and the focus didn't work at all. I tought it was just a piece of dirt behind the lens. but as it turned out, they repaired the LCD again, the upper firing speaker, the camera module, the magnetic charging module and so on. I may have got a bad unit, but the problems are surreal. I paid so much for this phone, but I have never had so much problems with any phone than with this one... Quite dissapointing to be honest. And I'm thinking about the same as you are... Switching away from Sony. This experience is quite terrifying... :crying:

I had it too, I didn't have to pay a cent. It is covered by warranty. And the adhesive might get lose by itself. As it did for me.
They should cover anything which isn't damage by your behavior. Like dropping the phone on the ground and so on

I guess it depends on the repair center then. I'm shocked they would honor it since its out of warranty. Sony rules!

Yeah, As I've heard, they don't act the same in any place. They mostly are very mean. And don't want to help at all. Either they say that you will have to pay for it or just live with the problem. I guess not everyone has like 200$ for a new LCD swap and so on.
Just to be fair, i'd only want to switch back to my One M7 because i loved that phone so much. Also because it still feels too big. The One M7 was even worse, quality-wise.
The Moto RAZR i i had before the HTC worked for a year, only the AUX port was broken and after sending it in, it was ruined (scratched, logo damaged) and i got my money back. Before the Moto, i had an Desire HD that held together pretty well, until the radio went bad. SIM wasn't recognized very often, battery was absolutely DEAD (jumped from 60% to 0% more than once).
What i think is so sad about it, is that you pay ~500€ for a piece of .... that doesn't even hold together for two years. I knew why i didn't sell the "repaired" One M7, you NEED a backup phone these days. Now it's in use for the second time after the Moto G of my girlfriend broke. Probably if they would spend just a LITTLE more on quality than on new features for the next high-end smartphone that has to be released after 6 months i'd be more exited to get a new phone.
I only bought the Z3 because of the battery life (gone with updates) and because i had several friends with Xperias of which none had a problem.

Its out if it's warranty period. So yes they are charging me. But since they need 15 days, I'm not giving it to them

My backcover became slightly undone (adhesive failing). I also had 2 bright spots (0,5cm diameter) on the left and right bottom part of the LED.
Everything was fixed free of charge, they also gave me a new battery (I asked for a replacement although the old battery was still going strong, but I plan on using this phone for quite a while and the old battery probably had way over 300 cycles)

I'm in Florida so anytime I have a problem I have to call customer service and they keep saying they don't do out of warranty repairs anymore. I wish I had a repair center nearby

Damn you are lucky. No repair for me here as garanty period is over, but I have the exact same issues, forward facing glass is getting undone and I have at least 5-6 bright spots on my screen. Really, really annoying when reading. Any idea if I could get it fixed in some no-name shop?
Surprise... After sending in my Z3 on 18.08., i just got it back and i'm in a moral conflict. They sent me a new unit plus new screen protectors. Service-wise, i'm really stunned. It makes me consider buying a Sony again, just for the service... Unfortunately they don't sell a phone i'd want to have right now.
However, my mobile phone contract runs out in 2 months and i got used to my old HTC One m7 again... So i don't know whether i should (and also want to) use the Z3 again for a longer period of time or sell it in it's new condition and get a new phone in 1.5 months. I'd want to have an S7 or Note 7 - especially the S7 would be plain cheap if i'd get it with a contract. If i sold the Z3, the additional costs of getting the S7 would be covered for 18 months of a 24 months contract period. Hypothetical: If I'd use the Z3 for another two years (won't happen) i'd only save 60€ compared to getting an S7...
Well, i guess those are first world problems. Anyway, i'm really stunned by the service - worst experience yet was motorola when i got back a damaged phone, closely followed by HTC, they repaired half of what was broken on the phone...
Sell the Z3, especially if it's brand new, you could get a good price for it. Then invest that money into something new.
I had this problem too, service replaced my phone's screen and metal case for free because this is Sony's fault.
How are any of you guys out of warranty? Mine came with a 2 year warranty in the UK, and it hasn't even been out 2 years yet.
I had to send it to service centre twice. First time digitizer broke, second time replacement screen was peeling away and screen was getting discoloured. Both times also got the magnetic dock port fixed, but I think that was damaged because I was using the wrong insert in the magnetic dock (you need to use the tightest one). I'm a bit disappointed that such an expensive phone breaks this easily, but the service has been excellent.
