Beloved HD2 to Galaxy s (vibrant) - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

Just wanted to thanks all developers that worked on the hd2 while i had it, i really enjoy it.
switched to samsung galaxy vibrant
got it for $100 bucks and sold the hd2 for $100 so win win
by the way ics runs wayyyyyyyyyy smoother on vibrant will recommend u to switch plus it will probably get official update. Everything works.
Guess is time for the hd2 to rest in peace.
By the way dont take it the wrong way but developers of hd2 should start migrating to other phones since hd2 hardwarely talking is dying we all know that. Your skills will be more appreciated on newer phones.
Thanks
Erick

!! the most versatile phone ever made !

The Vibrant sucks. You'll be back. I'm on my third HD2.

I think HD2 can live a bit longer.
It's easy to try newer sys.

HD2 is a well designed, very powerful and functional smartphone. The only drawback now is the lack of front camera. So HD2 will live as long as people will miss his performance.

yep i had a vibrant for about 6 weeks and sold it fast

Should I Buy an HTC HD2.. I am keeping th G1 though

I like the HTC HD2 screen size but... ITS WINDOWS MOBILE 6.5! YUCK!
Hopefully Android will be ported over to it when the HTC Evo 4g comes out right? I would kill for that phone
Any opinions as I am making this decision soon...
Greatest hardware in the world is still crap if it's crippled with WM 6.5.
Android was ported but not to the American Version. It probably won't be a long wait though.

I lied. Don't listen to me, I have no life. I listen to KanYe West. But they have ported it onto the other models of the HD2.
Your better off getting a WMP7, the UI is great and reminds me of my Zune HD. I like winmo, iphone os, and now android too

Why not just get a GN1? Its a better phone and has the benefit of coming with android 2.1 and not giving a single penny over to evilMS.

Yeah it reminds me of the Zune HD, but as a phone I think the OS is a stupid design. It doesn't seem fluid at all. This, of course, is coming from someone who hasn't had first hand experience. I have only seen videos, and of those videos, I am not impressed.

Ditto. I've never liked Windows Mobile. Symbian was way better than it, and I have to say, Android has blew symbian out of the water now. But didn't xda port android to it? Meh, I've never been a fan of ports, either. Here's what I'm doing: waiting till an upgrade period and if there's any whispers of a phone after the N1, I'll just wait for it and get that.
I have been lurking awile and I wanted to give opinion on the hd2 because I was in the same sitiaution when the hd2 came out. I was following the hd2 since october. And I was e excited about it. I was at the store early got it and I returned it the next day. I have been using a G1 since it came and then played around with a jailbroken and unlocked iphone and the hd2 was terrible. The. Phone itself is gorgeous but once you get over the bells and whistles its not user friendly and it locked up on me 5 times the period I had it.. I am just sticking to my G1 until somethin better comes out I cam say I prefer my rooted eclair G1 over the hd2 and the only other phone I would replace my g with now would an N1 but I don't want to pay the hefty price tag. I know you can flash the hd2 and all that but I don't like the idea of flashing a phone just to get it to work but rather flash, root, jailbreak to make it better. My G1 works fine out the box but its totally different. Beast when you root it.. aside from the freezing issues with the hd2, its just not. User friendly and the phone quality is terrible imo. You can get one for yourself but I would stick with my trusty g1..

I had a G1 and now have a HD2. I love the hardware and the winmo is just okay. My phone works great and the screen is awesome.
I do miss my G1. Everyone who likes winmo says it is great for business users. I am just an average user and miss my android apps. I played euchre on my G1 and the only euchre game I can find for winmo is $12.99. Not near as many apps and not many free apps.
I am patiently waiting for android to be ported to the HD2. There are no working ports of android on the HD2 so far. As is says in the previous post they have android ported to a winmo phone. But if you read the thread on XDA, the android port for the HD2 is really not even close.
Don't know about everyone else, but I bought the G1 at launch (10-24-08) and my contract won't be up until November.
I'm hoping for some good Win 7 phones by that time, with a physical keyboard.

i have to say.... im waiting for ANY good phone with a keyboard. companies seem to be stuck on touchscreen as most people like it because it's "sooo cool." cool as it is, it's a pain in the end. my main issue is the lag of the keyboard... it can't keep up with me! at least physical seems to NEVER lag unless the actual phone itself is encountering a laggy moment.

Should I get an HD2

I currently have a Samsung galaxy s and I'm pretty happy with it, but at the same time the development for it is starting to bore me, IV realised this is because I'm getting a bit bored with android in general. I just want a bit of a change and nothing really offers that more that the hd2 and its abilities to run 5 different operating systems. But ofcouse to get one I will need to sell my galaxy s to raise the money. I was just wondering if anyone thought this is a good idea?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using my thumbs
I would get the HD2, the samsung galaxy has a better screen as in quality and detail but I like the flexibility of the HD2. Plus it all has to do preference. Its what you LIKE and WANT. Do some research (it already looks like it) and I'm sure you'll realize what you want
yes, because at least you can generate a bit profit from selling galaxy s to buy a hd2, lol.
Anyway, about 5 OS on hd2, don't expect too much!!! Only wm6.5 and android are quite stable at the moment.
WP7? it seems ok with some people now, but when M$ announces wp7's update (very soon indeed), who knows what will happen???
Meego: it's so lagging and some developers have just left that project.
Ubuntu: how much time did you spend with ubuntu on your laptop?
So moving to hd2 because of android while you already have very good one? Or do you want to try the last decade's wm6.5?
I understand what you mean about the is situation bit at the same time, from what I gather, the development scene will continue for a long time on the hd2, whereas the galaxy can only go so far, and if I must confess I'm a bit of flash junkie so hd2 will keep me plenty entertained

One of my friends came round with a SGS, and I was quite impressed with the screen, and the overall responsiveness, but as a fellow flash junkie, I would recommend sawing off ur sgs in two, selling one part, and buying half a hd2, and gluing them together.
If that's not an option for u, go with the HD2

Well, if you really like hd2, go on then! I've moved from motorola miletone to blackberry, then htc mozart, finally hd2 now, never ever regret it! 4.3 inches screen is great and always fits my palm.
But in case u feel like "uhm ..uhm maybe hd2 a good choice but...uhm...not sure though...", my advice is sticking with ur current one, as I know that galaxy s is very good as well!
About the flexibility in flashing roms on hd2, to be honest, i was just excited in first few days, and then realised that i can't have enough time to follow every single rom updated daily by hundreds developers, so i chose one rom working fine for me (even bugs still occur) and dont care about anything else!

I'm sure galaxy development will go on as long as the hd2.... the galaxy s series in general is a much more popular series of phones and there are more galaxy s users than hd2 users, so development will go on. But the HD2 is a great phone for being able to run multiple os's... I love being able to dual-boot with WP7 on my main memory and running android off my sd card... both are running very well. Let me warn you, though... the battery life on the wp7 and android ports are not nearly as good as native phones. You'll have to charge your phone twice as much. It can be hard to get a full day out of a charge if you use your phone a decent amount. I recommend getting a spare battery or an external backup battery if you use your phone a lot.
nope !! get a n0kia 3310 !
If what you want to tinker around with your phone, try out stuff every day or two, and I mean literally, then by all means, the HD2 is your phone. However take note, as said above, only android and winmo work "perfect" and the others are a bit iffy.
Nobody knows what will happen to WP7 on the HD2 once that update hits, and it sounds very grim in my opinion. WP7 on the HD2 has problems also, you can read up on the problems in our porblem thread in our HD2 WP7 Q&A dedicated forum.
Ubuntu is not a fun ride on the HD2 either, since despite the 4.3" screen, it's still too small for the OS.
MeeGo seems to be coming along but I don't expect it to reach the stability of android on our HD2's, any time soon.
So think about what you want first. If you wants a phone that works great for what it has, then the galaxy s is your phone. However if you want to tinker,, the HD2 is your phone. Just know, the HD2 while very well rounded, does not excell in one OS.
i am also thinking of buying an HD2... is an in-depth comparison between android HD2 and Desire? battery life? performance? etc...

If you just want to run android, you'd be better off with a native android phone... you get much better battery life with use on a native phone. But the hd2 makes a good android phone for the price, but you will have to put time and work into learning how to set it up and work past any bugs to get it running good. One positive about the hd2 is you can run windows on it too if you don't mind running android off sd card.

Hey there.
I have a Galaxy S, rooted, modified to the max, tried out most of the roms, kernels and so on.
Just last week i found out that HD2 is capable of Win7 AND Android. At first it felt like a stupid idea, HD2 is too old.
After some research, youtube and XDA I have decided. Tomorrow afternoon some guy comes home to me and make the switch.
A larger screen, multi-OS and the fun of changing phones is my reasons
You will see more of me in this part of XDA
Please forgive my bad english!

If you keep your wireless off and keep battery eating things off during standby, you can get ok standby battery life, but its nothing like a native phone. During actual use of the phone, battery drains fast. A few hours of use will kill your battery... an hour of using xda app will take 25% off my battery. My brother has a galaxy s series phone, and his battery will easily last 2-3 times what mine will last of actual use.

[Q] android on focus

Has anyone successfully ported android to the focus yet? Its a slick, nice phone, but its a shame to be stuck with Microsofts os.
Yes, it is called AT&T Captivate/Samsung Galaxy S.
I have both and it is a shame that the nice phones like my Captivate stuck with the possy Android OS Samsung put it on.

sorry, but neither of these responses seem very helpful. My friend has a samsung focus, and she wants to know if i can find a way to put android on it like I already did with my htc hd2. we have both run wp7 and android and prefer android. Posts about how cool wp7 is won't help me, and neither will the suggestion to buy a new phone. Im sorry, but at the price these phones go for, it is just a little out of normal peoples budgets to just buy a new phone.

You might have gotten more helpful, less defensive responses if you didn't end the OP with:
"Its a slick, nice phone, but its a shame to be stuck with Microsofts os."
Anywho... There is currently no Android ROM for the Focus. As others have said, there are other handsets made by Samsung with nearly identicle specs and looks that are already running android, so there won't likely ever be an android ROM for the focus.
If buying a new handset is out, understandably, look into trading a Captivate or Galaxy S owner for your Focus.
hmmm I understand where you're coming from, but honestly, why would i be seeking android if I was impressed with wp7? It seems to me that if there are already samsung phones with nearly identical specs that run android, that one of these marvelous cooks would be all over porting it. I mean, I can't even count how many roms have come out for the hd2, and they are pretty much ported from similar htc phones with similar hardware. Do cooks/devs just not like playing with samsung?
Apparently, it is a different bird.
Sent from my SGH-i917 using XDA Windows Phone 7 App
We can't even find an stock WP7 ROM for focus, let alone other ROMs.
Typically, Samsung phones get very little tractions in devs because of the lack of stock ROMs (for Windows Mobile and Windows Phone OSes).
You can't judge an OS through an unofficial port of an OS that is not meant for your HD2. Regardless how you think it is, HD2 is a piece of junk designed for Windows Mobile 6.5, IMHO.
And regardless how you think Android is cool, it is piece of junk OS the way Samsung implemented it on Galaxy S, IMHO. And Android ROMs on Focus, if ever happened, will be ported over from its Galaxy S ROMs. So, don't expect any better results coming out of it.
poor samsung focus users
I smell a troll......
Seriously? If your friend likes Android so much then WTF did she buy a Samsung Focus for!?
Honestly...............
Troll is trolling.

Truth has to be told. HD2 was a fantastic phone.... two years ago. Its hardware is way ahead of its time and WinMo 6.5 can barely harness all of its power back then. It's a shame really. Nowadays, however, it barely matches mid level smartphones from Android or WP7.
I personally am an android fan I have lg g2x im in here for my fiances focus looking around . I like how responsive the wp7 os is but at the same time when I play with her focus it seems like there is nothing today besides social websites(facebook,etc..) I like android for the customizations but android phones are not as responsive as wp7 plus on any android phone i have had there was always bugs. I would like android customization plus the ui with the stability of wp7.

If you like big 3D games your better of Keeping the HD2 for its true diversity and buying an Ipod Touch to play games, the Samsung just wont keep your ORD addiction topped up like the wonderful HD2
I have the opportunity to buy an HD2 again for under £100, shall I go for it, have lost touch with the Roms and WP7 now, been away for over a year

Goodbye HD2

Have been HD2 user for nearly 2 years now. Been through all the good phases which the phone has to offer, WinMo 6.5 Custom ROMS in the begining then Android through SD card/Haret and then finally Android through NAND. Also gave WP7 and WP7 NODO a try too, two sepeate times, but somehow it was just unstable for me and never really worked out, so had it uninstalled and went back to Android within 2 days both the times.
It has been a great phone throughout, there was new joy each time a bug was ironed out or new dev was made for it by awesome devs here, like NAND or porting of gingerbread and more recently ICS or the solving of persisting GPS problem by tytung or the custom brightness issue just recently or the porting of new 2.6.35.x kernels by Mark & warrenb and many more I can't remember
But as all must good things come to an end, with a heavy heart I say good bye to my beloved HD2 and pack it to be shipped from my place to its lucky new owner who doesn't know even difference between android and windows btw and move on to HTC sensation..
It still is very capable phone and has atleast 1 more year of life in it, I decided to move on because the hardware buttons on my phone break quite often, had it repaired 2 times already because of same fault, only if HTC had decided to use capacitive buttons at that time
Anyway hope devs keep up the good work and we have full working ICS w/ 3.0.8 kernel on it and 720p recording soon and WP7.5 Mango without any issues for wp lovers
Many thanks to Cotulla, Tytung, NRGZ, Hastarin, Darkstone, Markinus, Marc, Warren, CM team, MIUI team and all the ROM chefs and devs I missed out (sorry I can't name each one of you)
Also HTC deserves a mention too, for creating a phone which was ahead of times with a badass 4.3 display which started the trend of big phones and their awesome Sense UI
Lastly, I would mention the awesome HD2 community we have here on XDA which keeps this phone rocking.
To HD2 the best phone ever
Decide to go for Amaze 4G over Sensation. Hopefully, it would be a worthy upgrade

hmm, you used to be indecisive but now youre not so sure
i am sure many long time owners are looking around for the next 'HD2'.
what made you decide on Sensation over Amaze 4G?
and not Samsung Galaxy S II, the screen is a lot brighter...
HD2 is amazing, tried pretty much everything on it, WM, WP, Android... Will be switching to something new once Windows Phone 8 Apollo hardware is out.
Just can't understand why you would go with HTC Sensation (Android) over Titan II or Lumia 900 (WP 7.5) though
I am pretty sure that Lumia 800-900 is the new HD2, at least for the WP users,

Sensation and Amaze are both excellent phones. However IMO Amaze is what the original sensation should have been.It has better camera(s), data speed, no death grip issue, NFC, dedicated mic for active noise cancellation. There is also more CPU and RAM on Amaze but that I think it would negate for now if you put MIUI/CM7/9 on sensation, which you can't put on Amaze right now because HTC doesn't gave it S-OFF yet . So you are stuck with Sense UI on Amaze, but i don't mind it as its an excellent software. That's why the indecisiveness, I'm going from a phone with most dev to a phone with very low dev
Galaxy SII is a better phone when compared to Amaze in physical aspects as its lighter, slimmer, better screen and bigger battery. However Amaze has better build quality and has a slightly better camera. Rest of the Hardware is same for both on TMO version. But its expensive normally coz being more popular. Its normally more than $450.
I settled for Amaze as I scored an excellent deal from eBay for 350.
So it all depends on your budget. You get mint sensation normally for 300-350, Amaze is around 400 mark while the SGSII is 450-500.

I went with the Samsung Galaxy Note. I like it a lot, but I LOVED My HD2s (4 in all- just put the last 2 together up on eBay: 1 still working great & the other for parts, and an unbeleivable difficult to part with collections of bike mounts and extra batteries et all.) I just had to, to help pay for the off-contract Note. Sad day.

I am BIG fan of HTC. Currently courting the wrong side (Samsung) and would love to go get a ONE X but the only thing keeping me from ONE X is the lack of microSD. Does anyone know whether SG3 will have microSD? It seems like the general trend is to omit it.
I just ditched Sansung GS2 SKyrocket for HD2.
Gosh I hate the battery drainage on LTE and 4g.
No matter how fast dual core cpu is and how fancy the super amoled plus looks, its all useless if you have to charge the phone every 6 hours
I am sticking with my HD2 for now. You gotta love the fact that all the devs and support that are far greater on HD2 than any other phones.
I will wait hold my 500 dollars until all those manufacturers do something about the battery on LTE and 4G.

Getting emotionally attached to a phone is weird, but i also share that same feeling
All these phone just do what they are supposed to do, the HD2 did so much more than what it was supposed to, that's what it made it so special
Still have it and works like a charm, but for next device
HTC Hurrkian 1.5 Ghz quad core
Android 4.0
Sense UI 4.0
Camera 12 mega pix
Display 4.3inch 720p

just one month ago i have bought this phone fo 130 euros with no sound that i fixed fo free thanx to my experience with electronics. Few days after that I installed android and every day after that i was testing almost every possible rom for hd2. Now I must say the only thing. This phone just rocks like hell. I didnt know that this phone can handle so much . I know that there are better phones out there if we are talking about specs but I must say that this phone is inspiration for other or new developers. It also inspired me and I am also looking forward to build my own rom for this phone even if I know there are plenty of really good roms for this phone. But I must also say that I am looking forward to buy HTC ONE X or SAMSUNG Galaxy S3 when it comes out. But anyway I WILL KEEP THIS PHONE even after its death
Sent from my Dorimanx powered HTC HD2
Ive had like 15 different roms on my sd in the last 2 months, and havent flashed magldr yet, 1 year and a half... when my contract ends is gonna be hard to chose a new phone.
Sent from my HTC HD2 using xda premium
HD2 its a very good phone with a lot of developing work. But like others phones the company plan to keep up to date the newest phones and forget the older. Its a hard work to a developer build the roms and test it. I think that the equation good hardware(phone) + good developers gives the result of excelent on this phone.

just check out the nokia support froum.
but the ones that pee me off is
1. poor battery life
2. badly grounded screen so jitters on touch
3.random reboots
4.poor audio quailty through headphone jack
there is a new update pushing out now but i dont have much faith in it as the past ones just brought more bugs to the phone.
i've recently moved from hd2 to sensation xe. i really like the xe, but i'll never get rid of hd2, its the first phone i've kept after getting a new one........
I too finally moved on from my HD2 to a Galaxy S II. However, I must say as quick and enjoyable as the GSII is I still pop my sim back into my HD2 every couple of days to mess around with Windows Phone. I bought the phone when it launched on TMOUS and never thought I'd be able to run Android and Windows Phone let alone that it would be able to keep up for this long.
