I currently have a Samsung galaxy s and I'm pretty happy with it, but at the same time the development for it is starting to bore me, IV realised this is because I'm getting a bit bored with android in general. I just want a bit of a change and nothing really offers that more that the hd2 and its abilities to run 5 different operating systems. But ofcouse to get one I will need to sell my galaxy s to raise the money. I was just wondering if anyone thought this is a good idea?

I would get the HD2, the samsung galaxy has a better screen as in quality and detail but I like the flexibility of the HD2. Plus it all has to do preference. Its what you LIKE and WANT. Do some research (it already looks like it) and I'm sure you'll realize what you want
yes, because at least you can generate a bit profit from selling galaxy s to buy a hd2, lol.
Anyway, about 5 OS on hd2, don't expect too much!!! Only wm6.5 and android are quite stable at the moment.
WP7? it seems ok with some people now, but when M$ announces wp7's update (very soon indeed), who knows what will happen???
Meego: it's so lagging and some developers have just left that project.
Ubuntu: how much time did you spend with ubuntu on your laptop?
So moving to hd2 because of android while you already have very good one? Or do you want to try the last decade's wm6.5?
I understand what you mean about the is situation bit at the same time, from what I gather, the development scene will continue for a long time on the hd2, whereas the galaxy can only go so far, and if I must confess I'm a bit of flash junkie so hd2 will keep me plenty entertained

One of my friends came round with a SGS, and I was quite impressed with the screen, and the overall responsiveness, but as a fellow flash junkie, I would recommend sawing off ur sgs in two, selling one part, and buying half a hd2, and gluing them together.
If that's not an option for u, go with the HD2

Well, if you really like hd2, go on then! I've moved from motorola miletone to blackberry, then htc mozart, finally hd2 now, never ever regret it! 4.3 inches screen is great and always fits my palm.
But in case u feel like "uhm ..uhm maybe hd2 a good choice but...uhm...not sure though...", my advice is sticking with ur current one, as I know that galaxy s is very good as well!
About the flexibility in flashing roms on hd2, to be honest, i was just excited in first few days, and then realised that i can't have enough time to follow every single rom updated daily by hundreds developers, so i chose one rom working fine for me (even bugs still occur) and dont care about anything else!

I'm sure galaxy development will go on as long as the hd2.... the galaxy s series in general is a much more popular series of phones and there are more galaxy s users than hd2 users, so development will go on. But the HD2 is a great phone for being able to run multiple os's... I love being able to dual-boot with WP7 on my main memory and running android off my sd card... both are running very well. Let me warn you, though... the battery life on the wp7 and android ports are not nearly as good as native phones. You'll have to charge your phone twice as much. It can be hard to get a full day out of a charge if you use your phone a decent amount. I recommend getting a spare battery or an external backup battery if you use your phone a lot.
nope !! get a n0kia 3310 !
If what you want to tinker around with your phone, try out stuff every day or two, and I mean literally, then by all means, the HD2 is your phone. However take note, as said above, only android and winmo work "perfect" and the others are a bit iffy.
Nobody knows what will happen to WP7 on the HD2 once that update hits, and it sounds very grim in my opinion. WP7 on the HD2 has problems also, you can read up on the problems in our porblem thread in our HD2 WP7 Q&A dedicated forum.
Ubuntu is not a fun ride on the HD2 either, since despite the 4.3" screen, it's still too small for the OS.
MeeGo seems to be coming along but I don't expect it to reach the stability of android on our HD2's, any time soon.
So think about what you want first. If you wants a phone that works great for what it has, then the galaxy s is your phone. However if you want to tinker,, the HD2 is your phone. Just know, the HD2 while very well rounded, does not excell in one OS.
i am also thinking of buying an HD2... is an in-depth comparison between android HD2 and Desire? battery life? performance? etc...

If you just want to run android, you'd be better off with a native android phone... you get much better battery life with use on a native phone. But the hd2 makes a good android phone for the price, but you will have to put time and work into learning how to set it up and work past any bugs to get it running good. One positive about the hd2 is you can run windows on it too if you don't mind running android off sd card.

i don't mind having windows mobile on it... having multiple OSes sounds exciting... was reading that with the latest nand android, battery life improved but is it still that far away from a native android phone like u r saying?
Hey there.
I have a Galaxy S, rooted, modified to the max, tried out most of the roms, kernels and so on.
Just last week i found out that HD2 is capable of Win7 AND Android. At first it felt like a stupid idea, HD2 is too old.
After some research, youtube and XDA I have decided. Tomorrow afternoon some guy comes home to me and make the switch.
A larger screen, multi-OS and the fun of changing phones is my reasons
You will see more of me in this part of XDA
Please forgive my bad english!

If you keep your wireless off and keep battery eating things off during standby, you can get ok standby battery life, but its nothing like a native phone. During actual use of the phone, battery drains fast. A few hours of use will kill your battery... an hour of using xda app will take 25% off my battery. My brother has a galaxy s series phone, and his battery will easily last 2-3 times what mine will last of actual use.

Ever since I put WP7 on my HD2 I even tried dual boot with Android, I just don't like Android now WP7 is so good...
HD2 is a great phone for tinkering and trying practically ever single decent UI out there...
I have just had enough of tinkering

Hi everyone
usually when people make new threads about asking questions i think - come on man cant u figure out urself?
but now its my turn to ask ur opinion
So i got the hd2 since january and really i dont have any complain till now but a friend at work wants to trade his desire with my hd2..
Both phones arein same condition and work perfectly..
The question is does it worth to trade it or?
I tried several builds of android on hd2 and i see that i like android alot,
but i think till it can really be ported on our hd2 and work flawlesly we will need a bit more time..
So would you trade or wait..??

That's a tough one, I guess it comes down to what you use the phone for. Both phones are nearly identical technically but interestingly the HD2 still costs alot more unlocked.
I've used the Desire a lot and personally I'd probably stick with my HD2. The AMOLED screen on the Desire is great but I just prefer the size and contrast of the HD2's TFT screen.
Tough one though!
Yeah the hard thing is tha size matter!
Im used tpo the big screen now so i dont know if i can handle the one from desire bs its a bit smaller..
I usually use the phone for browsing, emails and a bit of music-movies -gaming..
And also calling , txting
I would go for the DESIRE ! Come on man Hd2 is just about to be burried RIP come Nov with 7 around the corner.
Why don't you too just swap the phones for a week or something and see how you like the other one. If both of you'll be happy with the new one then that's it. And of cource, if one of you don't like the "new" phone then swap them again. This way both of you will be better informed, no matter what you willl decide in the end.

Do you honestly believe the devs here will leave it at "no win7 update", it has the hardware (and two keys extra lol)
On the original post:
I got a great deal around 2 weeks ago and instead of getting a desire for 300ish eur on contract, got a HD2 for 160e
Best choice I ever made, screen size does matter
I'd keep the HD2 for its pure awesomeness and the 90% chance of getting a 7 phone for "free".
edit: also from what i've seen with my short encounters with android, it still has a bit to go no matter how good. Your hd2 is good till android 3 and phone 7 with their respective phones become available, wait it out on the phone change

cant say I agree with that, loads of old devices still have a thriving community, why wouldn't the hd2??
theres going to be plenty ofpeople with no interest in either wp7 or android....
this phones going to around for a while.......
to answer your question, I wouldn't swap.....
i wouldnt swap my hd2 for desire. i bought a legend over the desire because i already have an hd2 with its huge 4.3". its screen size is enormous and it has the processor to handle wp7 if ever it comes out. plus the hd2 has editor in office. in my opinion, i will keep the hd2.
Won't hesitate!!
I definitely would keep HD2!!!
Nothing compares with this beautifully designed massive screen!!
HD2 no doubts just have a look at ugly desire design and small screen don't even think i don't see any phone on the market which can beat Leo at this time...
I don't se the need to replace your HD2 with Desire since we can already run Android on our HD2's. Unless you don't want to use WinMo again.
yea we can run android but not 100% functionable, and thats true!
also i have a data plan wiv unlimited internet so if i boot in android the speed is crappy etc..
hopefully soon the devs can solve al the issues n it will be better..
keep the hd2. android ime is perfecrly usable on a daily basis. i find it just as fast if not faster than win mobile. battery life is same nd network speeds great. yes there are still annoying bugs. but so does win mobile. the sheer amount of apps and stuff u can do outweighs the bugs massively. plus ot only takes a few mintues to get back to win mobile.

the latest released kernals are very fast with no lag it is even faster than the desire , and remember desire don't have proper multitouch like what our hd2 have (don't believe me try multitouch apps from the market ) and with respect to the functionality the only missing thing now is the light sensor and wifi theatering and i think within two weeks we will have a fully functional kernal
Thanks guys for your replies, im convinced now..
just have to be a little patient i think till android will be 100 percent flashable..
Till then i ll enjoy the dual boot and the massive screen

my 4 year old son has recently discovered need for speed shift on my hd2...........
..
I had an Iphone 4 last week for the week to try it as a replacement as i am due an upgrade.
I really didn't like it that much compared to my HD2 i really didn't like how little i could do with it and i also didn't like the total lack of widgets and general info on the homescreen etc, so it went back and i'm keeping my HD2 for now until the HD desire comes out and the only reason i want a change is texting no matter what i've tried with my HD2 rom wise, with and without HTC messaging client i cannot text properly its simply far too laggy, the iphone was miles better for texting just pants for everything else...
If someone could sort out the texting on the HD2 i wouldnt bother changing as it is the iphone has simply reminded me how i should be able to text...
I do echo the sentiments above though i love how much you can alter the HD2 i've had a new Android phone the last few weekd literally everyday bizarrly the texting is better with android less laggy
Android on the HD2 is what it's at,it takes a while to get used to it but once you do you never look back, i rarely use WINMO anymore about 2% of the time compared to 98% Android

Today lol, somebody called my HD2 an EVO xD
he was like wow, where can I get that? is it an EVO? (It's not for sale in my country)
Lol, he must have been thinking that it was an EVO because I'm running a sense based android build. I told what was really going on and he couldn't believe his eyes LOL.
Wonderful day my device once more has made impression once again
You know what? I agree with the OP. I had the choice to buy any phone out there recently. You know what I got? The HD2. Why? The iPhone 4 and it's 3 inch screen and locked down operating system can go suck donkey balls. I didn't want a native Android device, because I grew up using Windowss Mobile. So I look at all the WinMo phones. Dissapointing specs, until I saw this amazing device. So I got it. This was one of my best purchases ever.
Hi there,
I was wondering what phone you would get, after your hd2...
Still love this phone and don't know wich phone to take... i'm start looking for a phone on wich i can just as hd2 can tweak alot
On hd2 i can use WP7 + alot of different android roms.... and (still using) windows mobile... For example i havn't find a gps nav software like igo 8 for android or wp7
What phone will you get after your hd2? And why?
Just wondering
Bye
Another HD2 ?
I looked into this but seriously there isn't one that i would like it to be the replacement for my HD2, i had a desire (great AMOLED screen but meh), a Desire HD (very nice phone, no extended battery but meh, just android?)..and so on.
uhm...i'd pick any phone that's prettier than my hd2..and a phone that won't freeze on me after every text or so..also..i have a thing for slide phones..i'm sorry i cant deal with full touch screens...>__<..i'm considering the myTouch (violet) phone...but i don't like the tiny screen... =[ *sniffles* if only my hd2 could have all the cute lil android stuff...
Just bought another hd2...
It will run wp 7 and Android.. .
This phone is da bomb!
can anyone help me
i think of getting a used htc hd2 am really amazed by the multi os system am getting it at resonable price of around 13000 INR its 6 months old and is in good condition
if i get it now wont it be like am missing out any thing that present has to offer????
so what do guys suggest this phone or any other???
buying used HD2 is some kind of risk. Everybody knows about it`s issues with CPU heating and damaging digitizer with constant pressing red/cancel button.
But this phone is definitely unique, especially at nowadays price. Not the most powerful but the most customizable

so is there anyway to determine the digitizer and stuff are in good shape?
Phone i saw looks gud atlst otsde is gud
n ya nt mst powrfull device bt stil a 1ghz processor is stil gud aint it?
I'm thinking of buying the Galaxy Nexus because it seems to be a really great phone.
But the fact is that the HD2 is the best phone if you want to change roms, try windows, meego, ubuntu, android.
So I'm still hesitating.
The best thing would be to find a ne phone (faster one) with the same dev community
I'm trying to hold out until the HTC EDGE is out about March next year according to a HTC rep I was speaking to.
Unfortunately for me my back button on the HD2 has just stopped working today
Hoping I can find a way to fix it.
I'm also asking myself the question about what next after HD2 because mine just have this damned digitizer problem : no way to unlock the screen !!!
I've tried 3 Android ROMs , 1 WM ROM and even the Orange stock ROM : same problem everytime so it's definitely a hardware problem...
The Samsung Galaxy S2 looks nice, but I wonder about its quality and ability to be customized.
The best thing to do is figure out what you want it for. I'd probably go with a sensation or Droid RAZR depending on what has more activity on XDA. Honestly that's the only real way to go forward IMO. Track new phone progress on XDA and see which ones have a lot of progress and supoort in CM and other devs. Then get that used on Craigslist or eBay before it becomes super popular. I got the HD2 when Android still didn't work on it, and that let me pick it up for $115 then second one I got was 2 months later and it was already $150. Now, almost 2 years later it's $250. That's just amazing. The same thing might happen to other phones once they get good dev support on XDA and you have a bunch of code heads trying to pick them up used.
Sensation, RAZR, Thunderbolt, MyTouch 4g is okay. I'd just stick with good companies with good support. HTC IMO is the best there is for smartphones.
Many phones are good for customisation. The only problem is the dev community.
We should all choose the same new phone so that we can have a great community.
So, go galaxy nexus^^

Hey guys..
For my job im working with a lot of different phones and operating systems.. Im confident with android, i know ios and im ok with Blackberry. Ive been considering picking up a lumia this week for around £400 but then i thought, what if i come back to the hd2?
I wanna be able to use mango for a while and simply learn everything about it that i can, maybe the hd2 would be the perfect device because it supports so many different things?
What does everyone think?
If the price is ok with you then go for it!
Would not be a bad choice if you can get your hands on a good one for sensible money.
If you want a true WP7 experience you are probably better off buying a WP7 handset but that all comes down to your budget & what HD2 bargains are about to tempt you away from spending bigger money.
What would i be lacking from the wm7 experience on the hd2? I was just thinking with its expandable memory, amount of hackability etc. It might keep me interested for longer.
Not much missing, just a few bugs in the porting/drivers, read up on some WP7 ROMs you would be interested in using to get a full idea.

Lucky guy haha
Couple of things to remember,
the HD2 has some issues, first and formost is the SD card issue, it might take a bit of trial and error to find one that works, this alone turns people away from WP7 on the HD2, BUT thats a HD2 problem, not a WP issue
The second biggest issue is the battery, followed by the multi-touch, an finally the camera.
These are all driver related, doubtful anything can be done about it, but none of those are deal breakers an all can be overcome with a bit of learning, all except multi touch games that is! Sooo in my opinion you need to think, do you want to try something new that may requirer a fair amount of work, or do you want to try WP7, if its the latter then buy a native device, the HD2 with WP7 is more than capable as an everyday device but you might need to put a bit of effort in to get it there.
Hello fellow HD2 owners,
I'm still amazed how much support it gets and how its hardware can keep with even new versions of ICS (especially with HWA).
But in the near future I would like to upgrade.
Do you have any tips for a successor of HD2 which should I go for and which could same support in the future like HD2 does?
Thank you for nay suggestions!

Unfortunately, nothing will be as versatile and long-living as the HD2 as far as I'm concerned. Sure, phones like the SGS3 are great and will probably have development for a fair amount of time, but there won't be anything which will be able to run so many OSes and do so much.
I think the next 'HD2' will be a phone which will have a high hardware spec, and be running an OS at the end of its life. (As was the HD2) and I reckon Android still has a long way to go before it runs out of steam. IMHO ICS may be the highest we can go on the HD2. But I would love to be proved wrong

I agree with this for the most part but I just don't know what OS will be at the end of its life in the near future since Android and iOS seem to be the most viable choices from here out. I know a lot of people still love WinMo and by no means do I want any angry WM guys after my head lol, I'm just thinking out loud that with the way the major manufacturers are heading ie. I think eventually their will be a successor to the hd2 however it will be quite some time for multiple reasons.. hd2 was launch right when win mobile ran out of steam then came along windows phone 7 also Android also picked up so their were lots of things people wanted in a phone all of a sudden and the hd2 was the device to have.

I don't think there will be a phone coming anytime soon that can handle all the mobile OSes and have so many ports like the HD2. I personally like the HTC One X. Planning on getting one
