Well firstly; I dont have a lot of experience in issues with my phone, though I do with other devices (like PSPs.) Unrooted, unmodified HTC Panache. It froze after installing an app from the Android Market. I removed the battery since nothing was working, after about 5 minutes. It started properly; I turned the display off. When I checked my phone later, it was stuck on the HTC splash screen. I replaced the battery and tried a soft reset; it's still stuck at the white HTC screen. The recovery menu works; but factory reset doesn't work; it just hangs indefinately (I've left it for about 15 minutes and nothing happened.)
I don't have anything like Clockworkmod or a backup; I haven't done much to my phone since I got it quite recently.
I've tried formatting my SD card to fat32 (if that does anything), backing up the data first, then moving it back. Didn't help.
Is there any way to do a factory reset without using ADB or such? I've done some research, but I couldn't find a solution.
Thanks in advance.
You could ADB push the stock froyo 2.2.1 PD15IMG.zip to /mnt/sdcard. Here is a guide to push it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642437
Or you could do the gingerbread ROM, whichever you wish! The downloads are in the dev section.
edit: here's the gb: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1384438 and I don't have froyo yet. Just google

But of course you can. Did you read Panache rooting guide? It clearly states to flash MT4G 2.2.1 image. I know, because I suggested it.
But you can't flash it just like that, you'll need a goldcard and stuff. So it's irrelevant to the case.
To the OP:
You can do factory reset from bootloader. Boot into bootloader (VolDown pressed when powering on), select the option with volume buttons, press power to confirm. If I remember correctly, you don't need anything for that.
But your problem might be lying deeper.
Search the forum for "Panache RUU", download the huge .exe file, connect your phone to the computer and run.
If it works - you'll be back to stock Panache.
If it won't - your phone is dead.
You can read the troubleshooting guide for MT4G, link in Wiki in my signature, section "Troubleshooting". It'll explain the most probable reason for the failure.
Hello,
If I understand correctly your Panache is unrooted and stock?
And you got it recently?
You can try other suggestions but you could probably take it back to your store to exchange it too.
Which apps did you try to install?
Sent from my HTC Panache / CM7 using xda premium.
Wow, thanks for the help guys!
I'll be sure to try your suggestions.
Yes, my phone is stock, I haven't made any modifications.
I've tried factory reset from the bootloader; but it hangs at the bootloader screen.
Does anything that works for the MT4G also apply to the Panache? Since they're the same model.
Anyways, I'll try the RUU. Again thanks for the help; I'll post the result.
Troubleshooting guide is the same for both.
Alright, I've downloaded the RUU for Gingerbread. I entered fastboot from the recovery menu (i'm guessing that doesn't work?) and ran the RUU. It detected the phone successfully, but once I start the update it sticks on "Rebooting to bootloader." It's stayed here for 20 minutes and the display hasn't changed on the phone, nor do the volume buttons work to navigate through the menu. So I guess the RUU won't work.. or will it? I don't know what the issue really is.
Sorry for reviving an old thread but i am having the same problem with the phone of a friend. I get the HTC white screen and then nothing. I can boot in Bootloader but anything else then reboot or power down doesn't work, phone freezes . I am also having trouble connecting the phone to Win7, it can't find the drivers even if i installed SDK, and all the drivers packs that i could find around... I have no idea what she did with it, i am sure she didn't mod it, she has trouble programming the PVR....Any help would be appreciated.
There's a sticky thread at the top of the page, called "[Q&A] If you think your HTC Glacier is bricked, read this".
Well, read it.

Hello,
I ran the radio OTA, followed the instructions, and after it rebooted itself it is just stuck on the htc incredible splash screen. If I hold power down and power I do get in to the boot loader, but rebooting still hangs on that splash screen. I read through the OTA thread and I didnt see any mention of this problem, any ideas?
Also, if I put PB31IMG.zip back on and let it do its thing, it tells me the version is too old. Any ideas?

I'm having the same problem, and I just ran the 2.15.00.07.28 radio zip. To be honest I didn't wipe first as I thought I didn't need to. I did run unrevoked forever prior to attempting this install. I was going to right before installing CM6.. but obviously I didn't get that far. I did run a nandroid backup before hand.
So right now I'm still staring at this htc incredible splash screen. Holding power or volume down or both doesn't change anything and I'm afraid to take out the battery. Any suggestions?!
Thanks
edit: ok so I read on the 2.15 release thread that some others were having the same problem.. Am I safe to pull out the battery and try a reflash?

OK, what are you trying to do? Sounds like you are trying to install the leaked OTA from early July (the one that gives 720P video recording)?
If that IS what you are attempting, it sounds like you already have it otherwise you wouldn't be getting that main version is older message. Check your hboot version, if it is .77 that is stock, .79 is the newer one I think
Are you sure you are using the correct PB31IMG.zip? The one you want is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726791
If you are trying to unroot and downgrade to an earlier version then you want to follow directions per this step-by-step video:

No, I was trying to update to the most recent radio from stock radio. Or do I have to update another radio inbetween? I got the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752436&highlight=stuck+splash+screen, for 2.15 radio
or were you talking to the guy before me

My fault, I misunderstood.
No you can flash any radio, just dont flash the same one twice, or step on any cracks, and never walk under a ladder!
I just went from 1.03.04... to 2.05, and now just installed 2.15.. I didn't have any problems at all.
My fix
I had this exact issue, where it hangs on the HTC Incredible boot screen after trying to update the radio. I could boot into HBOOT (voldown+power) after a battery pull, and when it tried to update my PB31IMG.zip file, it would give some type of error, and when I would try and go into recovery it would jump back to the HTC Incredible boot screen and hang again.
I determined that my problem was caused either by a bad radio or bad recovery flash from the PB31IMG.zip file I had downloaded. I pulled my SD card and plugged it into my laptop using the MicroSD-to-SD adapter, deleted the PB31IMG.zip file, REDOWNLOADED the file from my laptop and stuck it back in the root of my SD card, the put the SD card back in the phone and rebooted into HBOOT and reflashed the radio/recovery. Problem solved.
I don't know if that will work for everyone, but it is exactly what happened to me.
Hope it helps,
jakewill

Yes my phone was bricked using that method. I'm trying not to overuse the term "bricked."
Thanks for all the help.. but once I pulled the battery and turned the phone back on, apparently it booted up just fine. I guess it just needed a little push in the right direction. Once I checked the settings, the radio was indeed flashed. I got really worried over nothing I installed CM6 and everything is just fine.
[Solved]
Hi there.
I got hold of this second hand phone.
I dont think its been modified in any way yet.
Last night the phone asked me about doing a update. So i did.
After the green progress bar completed i got to a white screen containing a green htc logo. And its stuck there in a loop.
So... I cant turn my device on... whyyyy? :'(
All i can do is to get into the standard htc recovery.
And into the hboot. Some place there it says:
HERO CVT SHIP S-ON
HBOOT-1.76.0007 (HERO10000)
MICROP-010f
TOUCH PANEL-SYN0104
RADIO-6.35.15.11

I have done a wipe and a hard reset. Still it get this white screen on death. (WSOD) Im sodding of to bed...
You now know that it doesnt have a nandroid backup, and that I cant connect the phone via a usb connection to pc. And I dont have any custom recovery installed.
Ive tried to recover from a offical rom with a update.zip copied with a card reader onto the sd. Ive tried a few. The recovery see's the file. But when i try to install it it says "Verification failed Installation aborted"
Ive tried the recovery-RA-hero-v1.7.0.1.img, but without a usb I cant figure out how. Is there a way around for installing RA with just a sd card?
Please, does anyone have a good solution here.
Or some helpfull info to point me in the right way.
Sincererly,
Thor

Good morning
Thanks, ive been looking at that.
My Win7 pc wouldnt show the ADB Interface in manage devices.
Only thing that pops up is a disk drive called HTC Android Phone USB Device, USB Mass Storage Device and a USB Composite Device.
Im gonna try this on my windows xp machine later today.
Hope it finds my phone, if not... what can i do?
So you need to update drivers as per the link in those threads,... Have you done that already pal?
Sent from my HTC Hero using XDA App
Hi again
Yes, I followed every step on that RUU driver guide on my win 7. But the drivers doesnt pop up as they should.
So I cant install the correct drivers since it doesnt show.
Halfway solution!
I got a breakthrough.
1. Remove the battery and replace it.
2. Hold volume down/up and tap power button. (htc enters hboot)
3. Taps back (enters fastboot)
4. Connects USB Cable (fastboot changes to fastboot usb)
5. Computer finds device My HTC.
Then i run this:
_HTC Hero_RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_2.73.405.5_WWE_release_signed_NoDriver.exe
I got this from the htc pages. The software says i have ROM version 3.32.405.1
So i have a newer one installed then the one they have on web!?
I choose update on the software, now it tries to install 2.73.405.5
I got a half working usb connection now.
Fastboot restarted and changed to RUU USB.
Then i get a Error: 140 / 131 Bootloader version fail.
Can it be that the hard reset ive done messed up the bootloader version.
For me it looks like the phone is still in a new version ROM.
Anyone vise got anything to say about this?
Kind regards,
Thor
Aha,.... Ok, thats probs because the RUU you're using is older than the ROM already installed.
Try this one... RUU_Hero_HTC_WWE_3.32.405.1_R_Radio_63.18.55.06P_6 .35.15.11_release_signed.exe
That is the unbranded ROM,...
Wow
Suddenly everything klicked back into place!
Im past the white screen of death!
That RUU link was flawless for my device.
And the fastboot RUU USB installed everything.
Im back in business.
Much appericated m8
No problem. Now do us a favour and put [SOLVED] into your thread title. Thanks.
So...
Any suggestions on what i should do with it now?
Gotta root it i guess.
Then install recovery RA.
Any suggestions for a good rom to try?
Thanks again,
Thor
theres loads, but my suggestion would be villainrom 12 for a 2.1 sense rom, or froydvillain for a 2.2 rom
Ok
How do i know if i have a 2.1 sense rom or a 2.2 rom?
Or was that a dumb question from me, since you meant to install those?
Im kind of new, just left ye olde nokia behind
lol... Ok,... So you used the 3.32 RUU yeah? That is stock 2.1. If you used the other one, that is 1.5. Use BTDAGs guide in my sig to find out how to flash custom ROMs.
I also recommend Villain 12 for 2.1,... Or Froyd for 2.2. Depends if you like the SenseUI or not. Take a look at both in the Dev section.
Ok
Yes, I definitly want to have the Sense UI.
So then i wanna try out installing a villainrom 12 on a 2.1 sense rom.
Settings - Software Information now says:
Firmware version: 2.1-update1
Baseband version: 63.18.55.06PU_6.35.15.11
Kernel version: 2.6.29-063c4d24 [email protected] #1
Build number: 3.32.405.1 CL191507 release-keys
Software number: 3.32.405.1
This is what i have on it now.
I tried doing the phone software update again, when it asked me again.
Got the same error. So I did the usb install over again. All ok again.
Note: The update it tries out is 3.32.405.2 (5.87MB)
So... can i follow BTDAG's guide from here?
Or do i have to downgrade or update something first?
Guess i have to choose Superuser for Android 2.0~2.2 when i do the rooting with androot.
I got a problem in that guide when typing su in the terminal window.
I didnt get the "Super User Request Prompt" as it told about.
Ive now tried terminal from both usb and the terminal emulator.
WHen i try to do the SU or the flash_image recovery command i get permission denied!?
Without su rights i can do the flash_image recovery /sdcard/recovery.img command, since i need the su permissions.
Thanks again,
Thor
Hi again
I cant seem to get the SU rights i need.
Ive used universal nandroid for the rooting! (it tells its now ok)
But i cant flash in the custom recovery image.
Ive now tried a different approach:
1. Installing the ROM Manager and trying out ClockworkMod recovery(its installs ok)
2. Then I boot into recovery by holding the home(house) and power on, I get the white screen of htc death again and it goes into a black screen with a red triangle and a ! on it.
3. Then I release home and power on.
4. Presses down volume up and taps power on.
5. The hero boots into the standard recovery!?
(I think the way im starting up, are reflashing the recovery. am i right?)
Clockwork also have a "flash RA 1.7 recovery" option, ive tried that one too.
But with the same result...
Any one know about this?
Best regards,
Thor Elvin

Hi guys,
just hoping one of your knowlegable forum members may be able to assist or shed some light on why I am experiencing this.
I have successfully rooted and loaded custom roms on my desire.
wife has a htc wildfire, rooted with oneclick root and gold card
hboot 1.o s off
customised rom installed, SU no problems
I cannot load alpha 1.8 on wildfire, (they say version 2)
so rom manager is loaded, flashed the clockwork mod and tried boot to recovery and backup current rom, both result in being taken to the standard htc recovery with no other options (restore etc).
boot to hboot and recovery option aslo lands me back at the standard recovery option, i reboot to current rom no probs.
i have uninstalled/reinstalled rom manager, fixed permissions, get eror when trying to load earlier versions of clockwork in rom manager/ nothing changes?
any thoughts guys? i want to backup this rom before trying something else and losing it.
TX in advance

I really doubt that fastboot method will work, because it seems you must have eng hboot with normal hboot it won't work. I had a similar situation with hboot 1.01.0001 that was made s-off and in the end I've managed to flash recovery with flash_image tool. Just follow these steps

while the phone is off, hold the volume down button, and press power button while holding the vol down button. white screen with android skateboarders should appear, with several options. wait for it to scan for pc49img, it will say nothing found, its okay. with volume buttons navigate to recovery and press power button.

Thanks for the info, but yes I did do that (holding the volume down button and power on) I have gone into recovery loads of times before - so I do know that already LOL. I should have said that.
tried flashing another one through fastbbot i.e. with latest revolutionary for wildfire, still no luck - it just crashes, saying that I may have too high a firmware - but it definately has root - I have titanium running and it backs up and restores perfectly on a CUSTOM rom.
It was just that after I installed rom manager and installed the latest recovery is when everything went wrong.
Even trying to get to recovery through the rom, i.e. clicking on reboot into recovery via rom manager, still just rebooted straight back into the rom
I have tried flashing another via fastboot using revolutionary, but it says that maybe my firmware is too high - even though I have a rooted rom running

I am not getting you here. Revolutionary is a 1 time process to get S-OFF. After that, you need not touch it again to perform functions. How exactly are you trying to install a Recovery using Revolutionary and Fastboot?
Or did you mean Unrevoked? (This does not have anything to do with Fastboot though)
@smokzye - That is a bit "outdated". You do not need the SDK. Just the 4 files in this attachment:

It did at first say that I already have S-OFF and questioned whether I knew what I was doing - LOL, but after that it asked whether I wanted to install a recovery and it put on Clockwork recovery dl'd from the internet.
Okay heres a simple question about a mytouch 4g, the phone is s-on and 0.86 hboot. My question is, do i need to make a gold card to install the stock firmware on it or can i just put the stock firmware on the sdcard and install it??? Easiest thing to do now is factory reset. Thats what I did with mine.

Put the stock firmware on the sdcard and flash. You don't need a gold card to upgrade.

Well, the problem i found is that if i put the image file on an empty and formatted sd card the phone will say wrong image file. Yes, its not named PD15IMG.zip.zip or anything like that. And its the same image i have used to flash other mytouch 4g back to stock.
Also, can someone point me to the right direction to find the gingerbread update for the MT4G because the links in here are extinguished because of the megaguys been caught.... Thanks! Since the Foyo doesnt want to work maybe the Gingerbread will who knows.
The file for flashing in bootloader has to be named PD15IMG.ZIP, or it won't work. To flash anything else, you'll need recovery in place, which you don't have.
You won't be able to flash the same version of firmware as you had, only newer one.
Well, if that is the case then i need the gingerbread version for the mytouch 4g. And all the links i had were From the MEGAproblem website. I need a link to download the gingerbread version....
Okay i finally got the gingerbread version for the mytouch 4g. But the problem persist!!!!! I'ts very frustrating because im used to do this and for some reason this phone wont read the IMG file no matter what. Since i dont know how it ended up like that. The only thing i know its that it will get to the bootloader and everything works fine with that. Other than that it will not respond to any of the 2 IMG files(Froyo or ginger). I tried to rename it PD15IMG.zip. Left it as is PD15IMG which is the way im used to use it but NOTHING!!!! It's very weird to say the least....
Does it say "wrong or non-existing file"?
If yes - reformat your SD card, put the file on it and try again.
Does it say "main image is older"?
In that case, find the latest Gingerbread PD15IMG, because you don't have the latest one.
Okay, i have the 312mb PD15IMG which i think is the Froyo. And also have the 315mb Which as far as i can recall is the Gingerbread version. And yes, it says wrong image file nothing about no image file. I will double check on that then and let you guys know thanks...
where did you get the stock froyo and gingerbread IMGs?
im having the same problem (i think)
when the phone is powered on, it boots straight to the bootloader, i thought well ill just factory reset it, no dice, it just shows the three androids on the skateboards then reboots into the bootloader again, i tried to get into the recovery and it did the exact same thing. the phone is my friends and he gave it to me to fix, he says its stock so i want to just flash the updates to see if that fixes the problem

did you ever find a resolution. I'm having the same problem. Thanks
Hi guys,
I've tried many ways to fix and hope that some light could be shed from you
- Trying to get back to stock build after downgrading to 1.31 via this process wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Legend:_Full_Update_Guide
- The ‘rooting tools’ in step 2 of 2nd section were not available anywhere so tried other avenues to root
- None successful
- After lots of playing around – I decided to try and get back to latest stock build
- Ran the uncracking.bat file which was installed during the Cyanogenmod process (which I hoped would restore things)
- Not successful
- I’m thinking that maybe the adb shell command from the Cyanogenmod process may have caused some issue: /data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/misc1-2.img
- Trying the HTC OTA system update (from Android 2.1 to 2.2) fails while trying to update and goes into the recovery screen (red triangle with exclamation mark, black background) <<<<<<<<<
- Then, when pushing vol up and power the following error is shown:-
----> E:Error in /sdcard/download/OTA_Legend_Froyo_S_HTC_WWE_3.15.405.3-2.05.405.2_P_release_1603576x6ndkkwfpxcjvla.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted.
Any help would be greatly appreciated..
Doing a general factory reset does not seem to help.
I do not need to keep any apps or data, a complete wipe so I can start afresh would be great if possible!
Thanks

Oh dear
I tried to return to stock rom by running the wwe rom from shipped-roms only got the error 155. Then extracted the rom.zip from the exe and flash that no go, couldn't work out a way to do it successfully.

Cool.. It doesn't have to be stock. All I need is 2.2 or 2.3 (I was trying for cyanogenmod 7.2). At the moment it's stuck on a buggy 2.1!
I'm not sure of the current state, as I said I think going half way through the cyanogenmod kinda of changed something important ( eg. /data/local/flash_image misc /data/local/misc1-2.img via ADB).
Do you know of any way I could make either of these OSs work, with the minimum of hassle?

1st thing 1st, unlock your bootloader.
2ndly, once unlocked, flash cwm.
3rd, download any ROM you want (lets pick cm 7.2 for starting point since you said no need for stock ROM) then put into your sd card.
Lastly, boot into cwm. Wipe all (data, cache, dalvik cache) then Flash(install) ROM.
Thats it (assuming your device is not usb bricked or hard bricked and you do all the steps correctly).
How?
To unlock, go to htc web site or google "unlock bootloader+htc dev"
Flash cwm? Go to dev section, theres a thread of cwm, follow "s-off" method (of course after unlocking your BL.
Boot into cwm? Shut down/turn off your phone. Once it off, press power button and volume down at the same time, hold it fow few moment before release it.
Once in cwm, install from sd card (you will know once you in it)
Then? Enjoy ur legend and flash any ROM once you got bored with cm7!

Thanks for the response.
Firstly: -
- HTC Sync is not reading my (I think needed for HTCDev boot unlock)
- I did try just running the HTC Dev RUU - but it said I need to update the ROM(?) (from Build 1.31), which I believe is done by the HTC OTA update, which doesn't work
HBOOT 1.00
S-ON
Build 1.31
Not allowing update as loops into recovery with E:Error in /sdcard/download/OTA_Legend_Froyo_S_HTC_WWE_3.15.405.3-2.05.405.2_P_release_1603576x6ndkkwfpxcjvla.zip (Status 7) Installation aborted.

No, you dont need htc sync. i've never installed htc sync either. you only need the driver (which is logically will be installed along with htc sync but also can be installed separately and it is needed so that your device will be recognized when you boot it into fastboot mode) and no, you no need to upgrade ROM, you only need to upgrade your bootloader (that HBOOT 1.00) and it is not updated through OTA.
Seriously, it took me only 2 hours (including downloading and installing SDK, driver, waiting for unlock file from htc etc) last time i did it and i have done it twice which 2nd time (because i had usb soft brick) is much more shorter as i saved the unlock file and it seems can be reused. What takes longer for me at that time is to understand the whole process, reading and researching through multiple sites but now you have a guide, so all you have to do is to read the instructions carefully. Once you unlock your bootloader and flash cwm, everything will be super easy (assuming your device doesn't have any defects from the beginning.)
Ok, thanks very much feed3. Will try this again based your info and the mini guide I've just written myself.
But before I go ahead, I'd rather not touch it than to make it unusable.
What does USB Bricked and Hard Bricked mean?
Thanks

in short, hard bricked means your phone is totally unuseable, usually because of hardware defects but also might be cause by flashing wrong ROM, for example flashing ROM that actually not built for your device. Usually, you cannot do anything with it, cannot enter fastboot, recovery etc. Soft brick is repairable, you still can boot to recovery or even to the OS. Might be caused by some partition corruption (in the case of usb bricked, it is /misc partition).
If you use htc dev path to unlock your bootloader, no need for gold card. Thats for sure.
If your phone is usb soft bricked (among the symptoms are you will be able to boot into the OS ONLY if your phone are pluged in into usb, and/or adb not working at all) then google or search in xda for "htc legend+usb brick" and fix it. I'm pretty sure only then you can update your HBOOT and therefore unlock your bootloader via htc dev.
Once done, go to HERE and flash cwm using s-off method (dont care about your s-on that you see in your bootloader, the "UNLOCKED" word in it is more important)
In response:-
Thanks for the clarification.
- when using the process here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498298&page=7 - and trying to get the bootloader to run the LEGEIMG.zip file, it flashes up stating "no image or wrong image!", it runs too fast to read it exactly.
- then looking at the same error this guy was getting at (see the 'EDIT: It seems the LEGEIMG' post onwards) http://forums.whirlpool.net.au/archive/1657826 - they have the same Vodfone Legend as me, a gold card had to be used to do the above update process (which should update HBOOT).
- this is the only HBOOT update process I've seen, but isn't clear as they look like they're on 2.2 and HBOOT 1.01.

EXACTLY the same error message that you got, HERE and the op solve it.
Btw, during unlocking my bootloader, i've never encounter (or did i forget already??) to requiring this zip file. Isn't bootloader RUU from HTCdev is all we need? I think thats the only file i have to get (apart from the unlock bin file of course) if my memory doesn't cheat me..
Sure - but as the guy mentions formatting to FAT32, that's usually associated with goldcard creation right.
I've ran the bootloader RUU from HTC Dev a few times, and it always says that the ROM (HBOOT, build(?)) needs updating. Thus trying the aforementioned process (post 62 http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1498298&page=7) to try and get the Rom (HBOOT) updated, which didn't work, which then loops back round to dealing with the zip file read error.

I'm getting more confuse here. I've never use goldcard as i reluctant to "sacrifice" my one and only card but here i am with unlocked bootloader. The RUU file is the one that will update your bootloader. Read instructions at htc dev carefully.. good luck..

You need to read this post by blay0, it instructs how to update hboot without going back to stock, using gold card or any other outdated method of rooting (unless your on hboot less than 1.00 then you should follow the s-off method of rooting)

I think the reason I can't do the blay0 method is because of the stock sd card I'm using. It's not picking up the rom zip file.
I've ordered another http://www.kikatek.com/P188409/SDC10-8GB-Kingston-MicroSDHC-8GB-Card-Class-10?source=froogle
Will try again, and if that doesn't work - try this other method (as the guy here has HBOOT 1.00 and a Vodafone Legend too) http://chrg.zxq.net/htc-legend-root.html.
Many thanks for all your help people.
Will report back any success for the benefit of others.

Hi guys,
Good news! I unlocked the bootloader with my 'new' SD card using the blay0 process (from the last post).
This is the first time I've done this though, and am just trying to figure out how to flash CyanogenMod 7.2.
ROM Manager doesn't work with 2.1 (installed) any more.
Can someone please briefly explain how I would flash.
Many thanks

Ah, done !! Woohoo!
That was lots of work. Well, easy via the HTCDev method <<
To get 7.2 on followed here:-
see s-off method to install recovery image http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1290841&highlight=clockwork
To get into the recovery – use the col down + power button
Follow Method via Recovery here http://wiki.cyanogenmod.com/wiki/HTC_Legend:_Full_Update_Guide
Good luck everyone and thanks again XDA

Hello,
take the recovery-clockwork-5.0.2.0-legend.zip , put it on your SD-card and rename it to update.zip. Then use th S-ON-method from here and you will have no problem.
so there is no way to return the legend back to stock rom after all ?
