After Radio Update I'm stuck on Boot screen - Droid Incredible General

Hello,
I ran the radio OTA, followed the instructions, and after it rebooted itself it is just stuck on the htc incredible splash screen. If I hold power down and power I do get in to the boot loader, but rebooting still hangs on that splash screen. I read through the OTA thread and I didnt see any mention of this problem, any ideas?

Also, if I put PB31IMG.zip back on and let it do its thing, it tells me the version is too old. Any ideas?

did u wipe?

LOL. I ask my son that sometimes. Just sayin'...

Warning!
Do not start a new thread with problems/questions in Development sub-forum. If you have to start a new thread, please do so in General. Else, post in the appropriate thread to which your problem/question relates. 2nd offense results in 3 day vacation. Thanks!

I'm having the same problem, and I just ran the 2.15.00.07.28 radio zip. To be honest I didn't wipe first as I thought I didn't need to. I did run unrevoked forever prior to attempting this install. I was going to right before installing CM6.. but obviously I didn't get that far. I did run a nandroid backup before hand.
So right now I'm still staring at this htc incredible splash screen. Holding power or volume down or both doesn't change anything and I'm afraid to take out the battery. Any suggestions?!
Thanks
edit: ok so I read on the 2.15 release thread that some others were having the same problem.. Am I safe to pull out the battery and try a reflash?

OK, what are you trying to do? Sounds like you are trying to install the leaked OTA from early July (the one that gives 720P video recording)?
If that IS what you are attempting, it sounds like you already have it otherwise you wouldn't be getting that main version is older message. Check your hboot version, if it is .77 that is stock, .79 is the newer one I think
Are you sure you are using the correct PB31IMG.zip? The one you want is here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=726791
If you are trying to unroot and downgrade to an earlier version then you want to follow directions per this step-by-step video:

No, I was trying to update to the most recent radio from stock radio. Or do I have to update another radio inbetween? I got the zip from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=752436&highlight=stuck+splash+screen, for 2.15 radio
or were you talking to the guy before me

My fault, I misunderstood.
No you can flash any radio, just dont flash the same one twice, or step on any cracks, and never walk under a ladder!
I just went from 1.03.04... to 2.05, and now just installed 2.15.. I didn't have any problems at all.

My fix
I had this exact issue, where it hangs on the HTC Incredible boot screen after trying to update the radio. I could boot into HBOOT (voldown+power) after a battery pull, and when it tried to update my PB31IMG.zip file, it would give some type of error, and when I would try and go into recovery it would jump back to the HTC Incredible boot screen and hang again.
I determined that my problem was caused either by a bad radio or bad recovery flash from the PB31IMG.zip file I had downloaded. I pulled my SD card and plugged it into my laptop using the MicroSD-to-SD adapter, deleted the PB31IMG.zip file, REDOWNLOADED the file from my laptop and stuck it back in the root of my SD card, the put the SD card back in the phone and rebooted into HBOOT and reflashed the radio/recovery. Problem solved.
I don't know if that will work for everyone, but it is exactly what happened to me.
Hope it helps,
jakewill

Yeah, unfortunately this is not going to work for everyone. I was permanently disabled after trying this method. I'm still lurking around for a sure fix to avoid the same issue on my new phone.

Yes my phone was bricked using that method. I'm trying not to overuse the term "bricked."

Thanks for all the help.. but once I pulled the battery and turned the phone back on, apparently it booted up just fine. I guess it just needed a little push in the right direction. Once I checked the settings, the radio was indeed flashed. I got really worried over nothing I installed CM6 and everything is just fine.

Rogers magic update freeze/brick

Hello all,
As many of you know Rogers issued an update for 911 issues and sense ui just recently, unfortunately as I attempted the update via SD card method, the first update seemed to have gone well but after once it wanted to reboot it keeps on splashing the ROGERS over and over.
I'm thinking this is most likely because I am rooted and the process just didn't agree.
I am currently running amon ra's 1.2.3 rec. img
with amon ra's 1.6 rom
32A motherboard
BTW I still get to boot when I hold end+vol down
and when I hold end+home I get amon ra's screen but is quickly taken away after a few seconds.
Any help would be much appreciated.

good news and bad news.
good news, im pretty damn sure thats not a brick as you can still get into fastboot (the vol down + power)((atleast thats what i think fastboot is))
bad news, i dunno how to fix it.
i know theres a way to revert to original stock ROM via fastboot, so im sure it is fixable. don't know about custom ROMs via fastboot.
bed time, though. good luck, man, and dont get bummed cause im 99% sure you aren't just plain ****ed.
edit: just noticed screenie, but can't see it because my girlfriends retarded wanna-be stepdad decides to look at pr0n all night and continues to install "mywebsearch" **** and i can't get to it. :/
Hopped on my mytouch, still think your good but let someone else who knows more vertify that.
another option
one other thing you can do,
go to a rogers store, and tell them you tried applying the so called essential upgrade 'b/c you care about your safety' and the '911 issue is a important fix'. tell them you recieved instructions to do w/e it is using the SD card method.
basically, you tried the update ---> phone got messed up.
i know someone else did it and it was grounds for them just giving you a new phone.
not saying 100% it'll work, but its worth it b/c you get a new device with the new ROM on it if it does.
goodluck.

Can you clarify which SD card method? Was it using the official DREAIMG.nbh from Rogers?
I thought that I had bricked my phone because I went for a hail mary attempt to root my phone. But unfortunately it wouldn't get past the Rogers screen.
However, after talking to a CSR, they sent me a link to the Windows 7 file and it rewrote everything back onto my phone and I was able to boot it normally again.
@r3s-rt
Ya, thanks. I figured I wasn't completely boned.

I had the same problem while installing the new update yesterday. I had to call Rogers to guide me through it and even he couldn't figure it out. My phone just kept rebooting over and over after installing the first update. Even in recovery mode it didn't give me a chance to wipe, flash or restore anything because it would reboot in a matter of 2 seconds. The tech support guy on the phone had no idea what to do. I finally realised that I had a seperate Mini SDcard USB adapter that I could put my SDcard in and then plug into the USB. That allowed me to access my SDcard so I was able to delete the first SAPPIMG and then put the new SAPPIMG from the second update onto the SDcard. I repeated the same process from the first update (I was able to access fastboot without it rebooting), everything installed perfectly and now the phone is up and running great. If you don't have a Mini SDcard to USB adapter I'd suggest picking one up at your nearest Electronics store. I believe I picked mine up at BestBuy for $35 which came with a 4gb class 4 SDcard. The adapter is so small that it actually sits on my key-chain. Hope this helps.

I was rooted before, this is why I'm sure I've had the same problem as many of you. It seems though that this issue doesn't just stop at us... This issue has been happening with many other carriers and I'm not sure why (as of yet). I've flashed dozens of other Sense ROM's and even ROM's without Sense for ei. Espresso and Eclair and they all worked fine before. This new Sense ROM from Rogers is fantastic. So try what I did and you should be on your way with no issues.

After the update your phone won't be rooted anymore, therefor your warranty will still be in effect. After flashing the first update it already changes your SPL and Radio therefor Rogers wouldn`t know if you were rooted prior to the update. If you stuck in the boot loop just follow my instructions and you will be home free.

Happy to hear that I could help. They did misname the files but how could you blame someone who goes by the name of Rogers. I have several services with them and it's nothing but headaches with them.
I'm sure it was a rushed update as well. The devs at HTC were probably pressed for time to get this update up and out the door within a couple of days. Rogers will possibly be a major distributor for them in the next upcoming years.
Thanks a lot!
That solved it.
Anyone been able to root this ROM yet..?? I have tryed everything and I just keep semi bricking my phone.. but I can always recover it.

RUU Cannot Find Bootloader

Goodmorning,
I did a good few searches and could not find an answer to my delima. I am pretty informed about rooting and flashing ROMs. What happened was I already had a phone rooted and mikroms 4.61 but needed to exchange it due to a bad camera. I recieved my new evo 4g (hardware v4...hboot 2.10) and rooted it with unrevoked. Everything went will and was rooted within minutes. I then went to downgrade the hboot (this is where the problem began). I followed the same instructions I did with my previous evo (I believe it was hardware v3) and did the update, did not reboot, installed the .zip file. I then went and wiped everything (Full Wipe). Dalvik and Cahche as well. I then went to install mikfroyo and everything seemed ok. I them went and rebooted and now I am stuck on the bootloader. The hboot is still 2.10 but it has s-off. I tried a RUU, the RUU finds the evo and reboots the phone. Then the RUU cannot get to the bootloader. It stays waiting for a good minute but can't seem to find the bootloader even though the phone is on the bootloader. All drivers are installed properly as I checked the Device Manager and no question marks come up. Any ideas would be fully appreciated. Thank you.
By the way...I cannot get into Recovery either. When I choose that option it just heads right back to the Bootloader screen.
Why would you downgrade the hboot?
I know people have dome this to try and solve issues with their phone not booting at all, but to just do it?? Why?

For some reason I thought the evo would just function better with the previous hboot, doing nandroids and flashing ROMs. If I didn't need to do it I would not have even looked that way. Guess I am not as experienced as I thought. I just did that because it worked well with my previous evo. I hope I don't have to go to sprint and replace it again for my ignorance. There's other phones that have true issues that deserve to be exchanged next to mine.

[Q] PLEASE HELP - Weird Situation with Returning to Stock

I'm running Virtuous 1.1.8 ROM with latest radio (stickied-thread that shows May 11th date).
The first I did (accidentily) was make S=on. Now, whenever I try to go to bootloader to load PD15IMG.zip, it says "Main version is older. Update fail".
I believe I need to get back to S=off and first put stock recovery on before doing the pd15img.zip... Is that right? I have tried to get back to s=off without any luck.
I would appreciate ANY help. Thank you.

The file you are trying to load is a radio file. You cant flash a new radio unless you have S=off. Second, how and why are you trying to flash a new radio?
I don't know. I've read a bunch of guides and I think I'm totally confused now.
What do I need to do as step 1 in this situation? If its to get my device back to s=off, I can't figure it out. It was s=off, then I accidentily made it s=on.
I would appreciate any help. Thank you.
I remember someone else doing something similar in this thread. The thread gets a little confusing as someone else jumps in with a problem and you have 4 people talking back and forth. Read the whole thing to make sure it's identical to your problem. Something on page 4 fixed resolved one of their issues.

what you should have done was revert back to the stock radio before flashing the stock PD15IMG. since you have the updated radio, when you flashed the PD15IMG it turned your security on and flashed the stock hboot, but since youre on the updated radio you now have a radio lockout. this happened to me and I never got mine fixed, tried every method possible, so I just bricked it. KOLOHE got his fixed, try the methods he did since youre pretty much in the same boat. post back with your results...
ps- there should be a sticky made or something of the sort stating that you should be on the stock radio before trying to flash the stock PD15IMG_Glacier_TMOUS_1.17.531.2_Radio_12.28b.60.140e_26.03.02.26_M

the thing is, since you were on virtuous fusion the kernel from that rom will stick to every other rom (dont ask, I have no idea why lol). try flashing virtuous in recovery, that should work. since the kernel from the rom is sticking, you can only flash roms that are compatible with the kernel. you should still have total root access, but your r/w should be disabled because of the radio issue. only downsides to the problem...
Ok- so once I flash virtuous back... I'm still unable to ultimately get back to flash... correct? Thanks.
If I'm sending this phone in to T-Mobile for warranty exchange, I wonder if it will be better to put on virtuous (obviously non-stock rom), or leave it in a seemingly bricked state that only shows the "white MyTouch 4G" screen... What do you think? Thanks.

You think I should be able to put stock recovery back on in my situation?
Also, where can I find that panache leaked rom? I don't understand how that's supposed to fix my problem...?
I think I got it to work! I used the hex editing method and flashed the .zip file in bootloader at the end of completing the guide (.zip that was included in that thread) and everything seems to be working like stock!
When I try to go to recovery, I get that icon with a red exclamation mark (which I think is normal for completely stock phones..??).
The only thing I'm not 100% sure about is in bootloader, it says hboot version ..86 Besides that, everything seems 100% stock. Will that .86 be an issue? Thanks.

.86 is the stock bootloader. I'm glad you were able to fix it. I'm not sire about the red ! maybe someone else can answer it. So are you going to keep it and start all over again?
I think the red exclamation mark is normal. If memory serves me right, the recovery was not accessible on complete stock and if you try to go to it you get this red exclamation point (someone correct me if I'm wrong).
I need to send this phone in as a warranty replacement. So it seems MISSION ACCOMPLISHED.
Thanks for your help along the way!

[Q] HTC Panache stuck on splash screen

Well firstly; I dont have a lot of experience in issues with my phone, though I do with other devices (like PSPs.) Unrooted, unmodified HTC Panache. It froze after installing an app from the Android Market. I removed the battery since nothing was working, after about 5 minutes. It started properly; I turned the display off. When I checked my phone later, it was stuck on the HTC splash screen. I replaced the battery and tried a soft reset; it's still stuck at the white HTC screen. The recovery menu works; but factory reset doesn't work; it just hangs indefinately (I've left it for about 15 minutes and nothing happened.)
I don't have anything like Clockworkmod or a backup; I haven't done much to my phone since I got it quite recently.
I've tried formatting my SD card to fat32 (if that does anything), backing up the data first, then moving it back. Didn't help.
Is there any way to do a factory reset without using ADB or such? I've done some research, but I couldn't find a solution.
Thanks in advance.
You could ADB push the stock froyo 2.2.1 PD15IMG.zip to /mnt/sdcard. Here is a guide to push it: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=642437
Or you could do the gingerbread ROM, whichever you wish! The downloads are in the dev section.

But of course you can. Did you read Panache rooting guide? It clearly states to flash MT4G 2.2.1 image. I know, because I suggested it.
But you can't flash it just like that, you'll need a goldcard and stuff. So it's irrelevant to the case.
To the OP:
You can do factory reset from bootloader. Boot into bootloader (VolDown pressed when powering on), select the option with volume buttons, press power to confirm. If I remember correctly, you don't need anything for that.
But your problem might be lying deeper.
Search the forum for "Panache RUU", download the huge .exe file, connect your phone to the computer and run.
If it works - you'll be back to stock Panache.
If it won't - your phone is dead.
You can read the troubleshooting guide for MT4G, link in Wiki in my signature, section "Troubleshooting". It'll explain the most probable reason for the failure.
Hello,
If I understand correctly your Panache is unrooted and stock?
And you got it recently?
You can try other suggestions but you could probably take it back to your store to exchange it too.
Which apps did you try to install?

Wow, thanks for the help guys!
I'll be sure to try your suggestions.
Yes, my phone is stock, I haven't made any modifications.
I've tried factory reset from the bootloader; but it hangs at the bootloader screen.
Does anything that works for the MT4G also apply to the Panache? Since they're the same model.
Anyways, I'll try the RUU. Again thanks for the help; I'll post the result.
Troubleshooting guide is the same for both.
Alright, I've downloaded the RUU for Gingerbread. I entered fastboot from the recovery menu (i'm guessing that doesn't work?) and ran the RUU. It detected the phone successfully, but once I start the update it sticks on "Rebooting to bootloader." It's stayed here for 20 minutes and the display hasn't changed on the phone, nor do the volume buttons work to navigate through the menu. So I guess the RUU won't work.. or will it? I don't know what the issue really is.
Sorry for reviving an old thread but i am having the same problem with the phone of a friend. I get the HTC white screen and then nothing. I can boot in Bootloader but anything else then reboot or power down doesn't work, phone freezes . I am also having trouble connecting the phone to Win7, it can't find the drivers even if i installed SDK, and all the drivers packs that i could find around... I have no idea what she did with it, i am sure she didn't mod it, she has trouble programming the PVR....Any help would be appreciated.
There's a sticky thread at the top of the page, called "[Q&A] If you think your HTC Glacier is bricked, read this".
Well, read it.

Mytouch 4g can enter bootloader but it wont boot up!

Okay heres a simple question about a mytouch 4g, the phone is s-on and 0.86 hboot. My question is, do i need to make a gold card to install the stock firmware on it or can i just put the stock firmware on the sdcard and install it??? I dont know what happened to the phone that it wont start up normally so any help appreciated
Easiest thing to do now is factory reset. Thats what I did with mine.

Put the stock firmware on the sdcard and flash. You don't need a gold card to upgrade.

Well, the problem i found is that if i put the image file on an empty and formatted sd card the phone will say wrong image file. Yes, its not named PD15IMG.zip.zip or anything like that. And its the same image i have used to flash other mytouch 4g back to stock.
Also, can someone point me to the right direction to find the gingerbread update for the MT4G because the links in here are extinguished because of the megaguys been caught.... Thanks! Since the Foyo doesnt want to work maybe the Gingerbread will who knows.
The file for flashing in bootloader has to be named PD15IMG.ZIP, or it won't work. To flash anything else, you'll need recovery in place, which you don't have.
You won't be able to flash the same version of firmware as you had, only newer one.
Well, if that is the case then i need the gingerbread version for the mytouch 4g. And all the links i had were From the MEGAproblem website. I need a link to download the gingerbread version....
Okay i finally got the gingerbread version for the mytouch 4g. But the problem persist!!!!! I'ts very frustrating because im used to do this and for some reason this phone wont read the IMG file no matter what. Since i dont know how it ended up like that. The only thing i know its that it will get to the bootloader and everything works fine with that. Other than that it will not respond to any of the 2 IMG files(Froyo or ginger). I tried to rename it PD15IMG.zip. Left it as is PD15IMG which is the way im used to use it but NOTHING!!!! It's very weird to say the least....
Does it say "wrong or non-existing file"?
If yes - reformat your SD card, put the file on it and try again.
Does it say "main image is older"?
In that case, find the latest Gingerbread PD15IMG, because you don't have the latest one.
Okay, i have the 312mb PD15IMG which i think is the Froyo. And also have the 315mb Which as far as i can recall is the Gingerbread version. And yes, it says wrong image file nothing about no image file. I will double check on that then and let you guys know thanks...
where did you get the stock froyo and gingerbread IMGs?
im having the same problem (i think)
when the phone is powered on, it boots straight to the bootloader, i thought well ill just factory reset it, no dice, it just shows the three androids on the skateboards then reboots into the bootloader again, i tried to get into the recovery and it did the exact same thing. the phone is my friends and he gave it to me to fix, he says its stock so i want to just flash the updates to see if that fixes the problem
