Hi I posted a couple days ago about flashing a 4.5.1 full sbf. I now have it working but I cannot find a version of 2nd init that will work. Every time I put an apk file on sd card it says parsing problem. I have tried with various file managers and app installers but to no avail. Also 2nd init is no longer available in the market so I have no idea how to get into recovery to install nandroids or patches. Any help would be very much appreciated

parse error comes mostly because of incomplete download or signing issues...
redownload and try...

As nogoodusername said, this error usually occurs due to an incomplete download. Try downloading again but do it from your computer this time around and see if it works.
I did download from computer but didnt work. When I try with my phone it says content not supported and therefore wont download

Thank you everyone for your help. Had to format my sd card then everything worked perfectly. Should have done that first really. Thanks again
I'm currently using 1.4.2, should I update or update should be done only if I have problems?

Hi. Had my zee for a few weeks now and generally finding it great! However in recent days I've been having big problems installing apps, either via appbrain, market, or directly. Some work some don't and I can't find a common thread between them.
My zee is rooted and gfreed but stock otherwise. The apps that wont install include angry birds and the BT phone app so they are not by amateurs.
Any advice on how to troubleshoot? I've cleared the market apps cache and data, uninstalled ad free in case it was checking but still no joy.
Any suggestions?
Many thanks
Gavin

What happens? Any error messages. Is it all/every app from market? How about when trying to install apps from apks?
Edit... oh OK, some apps, not all. Do you get any errors or does it just say install failed? I would probably do a factory reset then try again, if fail, I'd start from scratch again.

It just says ' installation of x was unsuccessful '
Which is less than helpful! I've tried the angry birds apk and get the same
As I say its not all apps, some install fine. Is there a logfile somewhere that might give me a clue?

You could see if you get anything useful from a "logcat". Google how to do it. Maybe search "android logcat to SD" so it autosaves to SD. But they are pretty hard to desipher. Start it running just before you attempt the install so you don't get a file that'll take weeks to read through.

I had this exact problem with my old Desire, some apps just refused to install (like angry birds) and it all happend out of the blue. Never did check logs as i changed to the Desire Z shortly therafter. Atleast it's not google account related.
Solved....
Many thanks to ddotpatel for pointing me in the right direction.
I've solved the problem (for now) so though I would post my experience in case it helps someone else.
using adb I produced a catlog on the sd card ('adb catlog -f /sdcard/cat.log') while trying to install Angry Birds.
Reading that pointed me at a problem with '/mnt/secure/asec/smdl2tmp1.asec'
After some more googling, that lead me to the folder .android_secure on the sdcard, and the file smdl2tmp1.asec within it, which I deleted. At the same time I did a chkdsk which did find a problem, but whether that was related I don't know.
Anyway, after deleting that file I tried again and all the apps that wouldn't install immediately installed perfectly without a hitch.
Not sure what that file does, but google suggests that its a relatively common problem, so maybe someone else will benefit.
As always, XDA proves its worth!
Gavin
Could you tell us what led you to believe it was that particular file,... what kind of error message is there? Just so we know what to look out for.
And don't forget to add [SOLVED] to your thread title.

Sure,
The relevant lines in the log were:

Have you tried to wipe the marked data from application settings? Don't know if it's going to help, but it's no harm in trying
Does it give you an error message when it gets to the install process? You could try unmounting the SD card temporarily before you try installing apps, this solved the only problem I've had installing apps from the Market.

Settings - applications - all aplications, locate marked and wipe all the data. Next time you start marked you should have to agree with terms as you did the first time.
Tried that mate, still not working

I've had this happen in the past and the only way I could get around this issue was to delete the file 'Smdl2tmp1.asec'
To do this, connect your phone to a PC and use Windows Explorer to search for the file. You will need to set Windows Explorer to read hidden files for it to find this file.
Hope this works for you too.

If the apps download but don't install you can install them manually. Using any file manager head to /cache/download , here you will see all the apps you tried installing recently. They don't have useful names but the icons should help you remember what they are.
Find the package and install it manually.

Right I sorted it. I took out the sd card and it installed it for some reason

This has been happening for quite a while, and I still don't understand why:
I'm running phiremod 6.2, with dalingrin's of kernel at 1.3 ghz. I notice that whenever I download an Apk file, the package installer refuses to open it, saying it has a parsing error. I assumed it was a bad download, so I downloaded the same file to my laptop and sent that over to the nook via USB. I tried installing the file again and I received the same error.
I then tried using two different adapters to write to the micro SD, and again, I received the same result.
The last test I did was download a program apk that I knew would work(because I'd installed it initially) and...it didn't work.
I'm using Astro file manager and the regular file manager and they both give me the same result.
One last thing: Any app requiring an outside source(a file, rom, or archive) chokes, FCs, or just refuses to open said archive even if it's pointed in the right direction.
What can I do? I'd appreciate any help or advice I could get on this issue.

So I backed up my stock Rom, restored and cleared cache. Now when i install zip from sd card and choose the zip i want from sd card and click yes to flash it. I get this error message.
E: Error in /sdcard/update-cm-7.0.3-droid-signed.zip
(status) 7
Installation aborted.
Can someone tell me what this means and how do i fix this so i can flash CM7, I'm getting very frustrated.
You need to format your system, cache, and data. And you also need to be using the right kernel.
Look on rootz wiki for cm4dx. This is essentially how you need to prepare, except use D2 files instead (A Google search should help you with it)

Thanks, I checked the site out but didn't really understand most of it. Do they have a tutorial or a video on how to do that on there site. Would you be able to copy the link on here. I'm not very familiar with that kernel ****. I really want RM7 but don't want to mess **** up.

That file is for the droid 1. It will never work go to the thread by jbird and dowload build 11. Its in the d2 dev section.

I'm running 10.2.1-encore and gapps 20130813. I'm trying to use the auto updater to update to version 11 however when I do it says theres no gapp installer. I'm installing (rather trying to)to a 2gb sd card in my nook. I have no clue how to update to version 11. I've looked on here, and one guide in particular seemed helpful. It actually helped me install the current version I'm using but the auto-updater won't install 11. Apparently I'm to dumb to figure this out, could someone help me get 11 on my nook color and the new google apps version?

You cannot autoupdate to CM11. CM11 requires entirely different CWM, rom and gapps.

Start over by putting the newest image (rev8c) on an SD. It is required by CM11. But that image also requires at least a 4GB SD. If you want to save your apps and settings, use Titanium Backup.
