Yes. You won't get 4g, but I assume there's a way for 3g and everything else sprint to work.

I figured 4G wouldn't work. I may buy one unlocked. You think that 4G would work once Sprint has their LTE towers up?

Only the GSM models are unlocked Verizon & sprint are cdma & I think it really wouldn't work if you had a Verizon phone on sprint you would probably only get 1x not 3g I want the phone bad I've ask sprint on twitter, online I've asked Google & nothing no word which is stupid there big companies its either yes where getting it in a couple months or no we ain't carrying the galaxy nexus but they say squat

Idk if the only 1x part is true because I think we use the same bands as them, so 3g should work.

If I was to leave sprint I would go to T-Mobile cuz they got cheap plans & they are getting the galaxy nexus & there 3g is better the sprint's & there 4g is faster than sprints I've been with sprint for 9 years I want to stay but they got to get going & make there 3g faster or the same as Verizon & push out there LTE aggressive & keep unlimited & they will be # 1

Cancelling verizon account

I have both t-mobile and verizon. I've been considering ditching verizon. But, i'd like to know if I could still use the droid x just on wifi or if I'm gonna have to sell it. I bought it ten months ago. I'd like to keep it as a dev device, but just without phone access.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
You can still use most apps that allow wifi connection for a data source (almost all).
Wirrless tether would no longer work without 3g service... That is the only major catch I can think of

Thanks for the prompt reply. What about if I do a data wipe and the device asks to be reactivated?

You could just ignore it. Theres always a way to skip all those start up screens.
You MIGHT be able to "activate" it. It would eventually tell you that there is no service registered to this device etc etc.
I THINK that's how it works, but I could be dead wrong, might want to call cs and ask what happens if you try to activate a phone out of service.
Either way, you won't be billed. I think my activation screen allowed me to skip it.

WHY would anyone pay for Verizon's service! I flashed my X to Cricket and never turned back, (end rant lol ). You can still use the WiFi feature after you get past the Activation screen.
To do so, do this :

Hope it helped.
You can also use Page Plus. For as little as $30 per year, you could have phone service on it and use it as a backup phone as well as a really cool toy.

Never dropping a call and data speed that makes AT&T/iPhone fanbois wet their bed's at night.
Ditch T-Mobile, they just did a massive TV campaign advertising a 4G network when they don't even have one. They are just enhancing their current 3G network which by now is equivalent to verizon's 4G LTE.
It sounds like you're saying that T-Mobile's 21Mbps service isn't 4G while Verizon's 10Mbps service is. Technically speaking, neither fit the 4G standard; however, both are marketing their high-speed networks as such.
Verizon is too expensive for me. The DroidX does not do simultaneous voice and data--something I need everyday for my job.
T-Mobile has great coverage in my area. They're much more affordable than Verizon. Their network is faster than Verizon's. Unless you can convince me to go to a slower network with less functionality at a higher price, my Verizon account will remain closed.
Sent from my T-Mobile G2 using XDA App
Whoever thinks verizon 3g is better than at&t either lives in a low at&t recwption area or blowing smoke. At&t and tmobile are both faster than any cdma network, especially now with the hspa+ upgrades which also speed up other 3g devices. Its not even close.

Sprint to cut back on bloatware.

http://www.engadget.com/2011/07/19/sprints-fared-adib-we-made-a-conscious-decision-to-scale-back/
If I were them I would just leave it but give you the ability to uninstall.
Nice.
Funny how this goes in sharp contrast to what Verizon seems to be doing, case in point: the newest OTA for the Thunderbolt, it adds a bunch of Verizon bloatware, not to mention removing the free tethering option that was previously available on the phone.
I also wouldn't mind if it came loaded with bloatware, as long as all of it was easily user-removable, just any other app.
any one else notice LTE listed on that slide, so much for 4g comming to anytime soon to my area. I thought we would get that announcement at the end of the month.
Wimax is over and the Evo and Evo 3d was a waste of our time and money because Sprint doesn't care about its customers. Wimax COULD HAVE WON if they would have JUST BUILT TOWERS AND UPGRADED TOWERS! screw Sprint and its team. Of course they'll blame it on others. NO IT IS THEIR FAULT. WHY THE F!!! AM I PAYING EXTRA ON TOP of my plan for a 4g network you don't support?!

I had a nexus s4g that had no bloatware, but it sucked, so I took it back for an evo.. if they can do it for one phone why can't they just do it for the rest? if somebody wanted them they could just dl it from the market, yes?

It would be great if the openly allowed rooting to the point where they advertise and make sure the hw makers provide unlocked bootloaders for their network.
Will it happen? No, but it is a nice (water)pipe dream.
One of my biggest reasons for rooting in the first place was to get rid of the bloatware. I'm glad they did this after I rooted or I may have never learned all the other great things that come with a rooted phone
asyork, tried to thank you... but i reached my limit..
and yeah i wound up trying to do the same thing... unfortunately, i took the OTA update and am stuck until one of the devs figure out a way to S-OFF i'm unfortunately SOL but oh well...

Atrix 3g

Just a question , i searched the forum and nothing. In Brazil, we got exactly the same phone as atrix 4g, except the fact it is 3g only. even the model is the same (mb860).
Someone tested, or know if there would be a problem flashing the 4g roms?

Lol wow. I mean its not that big of a deal to me, my phone's internet speeds are generally as fast or faster than my cable connection at home. But when other networks already have real 4g, its a bit worrying to see one of the largest carriers not have it yet. By 2013 we could have 6g though. lmao.

HSPA+ (what we have now) is still considered a 4G network, and AT&T has recently begun to roll out their LTE network in major cities (http://www.engadget.com/2011/12/08/atandts-4g-lte-network-is-live-in-san-francisco/ for example)
can't really blame AT&T for advertising HSPA+ as 4G when it's technically part of the whole 4G terminology though.
Ah ok. Yeah the speeds seem comparable, and they do make it clear if you read about it on their site. I didn't know hspa+ was technically 4g so thanks for that info.

Only because there was/is no 4G standard so Att just called it 4G and who is anybody that is not Att to say otherwise? If Att called a bottle of water 4G who would be able to disprove it? 4G IS NOT created equal, it needs to be better standardized and regulated..

Now to wait for a decent LTE phone to get released for AT&T.

Straight Talk BYO phone $45 month all unlimited for $15 admission fee (sim purchase)

Straight Talk a MVNO using AT&T network. Data is limited to 2Gb (soft cap i think) and everything else unlimited.
Use any compatible UMTS phone even the AT&T iphone 4 or 4s. Back then you had to buy the e71 phone now they have sims/micro sim for $15
Everything works just configure the proper apn information.

We are legion, for we are many
where i live sprint has the best coverage. my friends with att and verizon all lack coverage where i don't. the north shore of long island from the middle and west towards nyc has no service though, any carrier. that's just ridiculous. its a rich area and they don't want cancer i guess.....or cellphone coverage. on the plus side though, sprint's cheaper than anyone else. as long as they're cheaper, i'll stay. i'm willing to pay less for ****tier service, but as soon as i'm paying as much as somebody with a good data connection, i'm gonna peace out. wimax was a joke though... i can't believe that.
