[Q] Getting replacement NC, need help. - Nook Color Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Okay, so the power button has worn out on my NC and I called and had a replacement order made.
The customer service rep I got spoke a very "broken" english. I barely understood what he was telling me. I had to repeat almost every bit of info I gave him. He even misspelled my name on the RMA ticket, even after I gave my name to him 5 times.
Now here's the question. What do I do now? I have the RMA number/ticket, which they sent to me in email. Will they provide me with a package to put my nook in? and if so, what all do I put in it? sorry for all the questions, but any help is appreciated as calling them back will probably only complicate things. And half the time you try to get a response from the email service, you get an automated response telling you to call them. If I can just go up to a barnes and noble store and have them replace it that would be great.
Like I said any help is appreciated, Thanks.

All RMAs I have done in the past, I packed up the unit and shipped via UPS (for tracking). Some manufacturers supply shipping labels but it sounds as if you were not issued one. To avoid possible complications, I have always taken pictures of the packing process (with time/date stamps) to document that the unit was in good cosmetic shape to refute any claims of CID (Customer Induced Damage) or shipper misconduct. I attached a statement reflecting that to the RMA documents included in the box. Try always use original boxes and packing items packed in a separate shipping box. (UPS can do this for you for a nominal fee). Depending on the problems, sometimes any accessories (power supplies, USB cords, etc) can be left out as those sometimes get "lost". Always make sure you have flashed back to stock. If Support sees a rooted unit they can refuse to do anything as rooting voids most warranties.
Hope this helps!

Well said, skeeterpro.
To OP, if they don't hand you the box, meaning you have to pack it up yourself.
If they don't send you the shipping label, meaning you have to pay shipping fee (if they reimburse, great, if not, it's out of your pocket)
Some vendors require very specific RMA package must be sent through a certain carrier, if not indicated, I would go with USPS for cheaper price, do make sure getting the delivery confirmation (and/or) signature required.

Thank you so much for the replies, guys. I ended up taking it to the b&n and the Guy at the counter just gave me a brand new one. Problem solved!

Lucky you didn't get a refurb, I had 3 arrive DOA. I'm shipping them all back tomorrow (I'm sure the shipping will be $20-30). Still came out ahead at $120 each for 9. Still, that's a horrible failure rate for supposedly factory refurbished device.

3rd Replacement = Damaged Again... What Gives?!

So, my launch day EVO started collecting dust under the screen on the top left corner and I took it to a local Sprint store to get it repaired. They put a screen that was all scratched and dented on the sides on and assumed I would be satisfied with it. Wrong!
After forcing them to put my old one back (apparently they didn't have any other in store), I called Sprint and got them to send me a replacement phone.
Phone came in and I noticed heavy scratches on the camera and the kickstand was completely loose (would open up by itself). Got them to send me another replacement...
Phone arrived last week with the bottom of the glass completely loose. I could lift it with my nail. Called and after *****ing for hours, I got them to send me yet another replacement...
Phone came in with exactly the same symptom. What's going on? I don't know what else to do from here on out. I know it is technically not Sprint's fault, but this is getting ridiculous. I thought my experiences with the Palm Pre were bad... that was nothing.
Now I know they most likely will not send me yet another phone unless I take it to a store. That's going to be another 5-hour ordeal. Is there any way I can get a new device or a fully-functional refurb? I tried retentions and they said there was nothing they could do. =/

The only way is with the Asurion process.
If you call *2 and explain the situation they may refund all, most likely part, of the $100 deductible.
I suggest it though.

That might not be a bad idea after all.
UPDATE: I just spoke to what appeared to be a thug on the other end of the line at Sprint's Tech Support. A nice thug at that. After decrypting our conversation through his strong ebonics, I understood that he created an eTicket (which I received online already) and told me to present it to the store clerk where I will be handed a brand new device. Is this possible? On the ticket it states:
Description of Issue:
Battery Damaged/Swollen/Cracked
Battery Won't Charge
Which is nothing related to my issues and will be apparent when they see it. I sounded skeptical but he assured me that it would work. For me to bring all my stuff (box if I have it, cables, manuals, etc) because I will be handed a brand new one when I get there. I'm still skeptical but I guess we'll have to wait and see. Anyone experience something similar?
Also, he told me I can go to an affiliate store for this (doesn't have to be corporate). Should I even bother? I feel they're less prone to handing me a new device.
I really hope it works out as I don't want to go through the hassle of unrooting and erasing my phone to see that nothing happened.
Finally, will a corporate store have newer phones than affiliated stores or vice versa? If I'm getting something new, I want it to be brand spankin' knew to make sure they worked out all the kinks.
Thanks again!

Dust under the screen means that the screen is coming apart.
Eventually that will lead to touchscreen failure or something of the kind.
Getting that fixed is more preventative.
Plus, you pay $200 + for a device, you don't deserve to have a sub-standard device.

What he told you is BS. Why would a. authorized retailer such as Best Buy take a new phone out of their inventory and give it to you?

Well, apparently he might just be a criminal according to the sketchiness of this situation and his alleged connections with stores. I guess the term would apply then.
I don't see thug as being derogative anyways. Have you not watched TV much? It's everywhere.
Anyways, if I give someone that works for Sprint and has access to their system my eTicket number, do you think they might be able to explain what it means and how it would be handled at their store?!
OP: I understood, and I LOL'd
Taking offense at ignorance just confirms it....
Back on topic...
Welcome to the world of refurbs.
Call customer service, ask to talk to Account Services. Tell them you will cancel your account if you dont get a brand new replacement. Tell them you are tired ot dealing with crappy refurbs, and dont have the time to keep going back to the store.
Go to a sprint store, tell them there's a ticket in the system. Before you do call sprint back an have them code the ticket correctly. When you go to the store don't tell them what the issue is, just say there's a ticket and have them pull it up. Once they do that the store is subject to a survey, they won't want you to give them a bad survey so they will fully fix or give you a fully functioning device.

Or so I thought... I called a rep from the store a bit ago and explained to them the situation. Basically, they told me that I would still have to wait for them to attempt a repair and if not possible, they would send me a refurbished device.
What's the f'ing point of having this eTicket in the first place? I could go there without anything and they would proceed in the same manner. This is really getting annoying... The local store is always extremely busy and getting out of there with 3 hours is unrealistic. I'm tired of wasting time dealing with this simple fix.

The eTicket tells everybody how many times the phone has been checked or submitted to be checked so when customers call and say "I've had this phone replaced 3 times!!!" Sprint can say "No you haven't". They will ALWAYS have to look at/troubleshoot the phone before any exchanges are made.
I've had mine replaced twice and was able to get a new phone. But Jesus Christ was it difficult. They will only give you a brand new phone if the store agrees to it (they have to be reimbursed by Sprint) or if Sprint themselves, agree which is usually a special case.
Here's what you do:
Call up Sprint customer service, explain to them the situation. Don't expect it to go anywhere. Just keep escalating the issue. After you get as high as you can go, call Sprint's Executive Hotline Number: 703-433-4401
Tell them the same thing. 99% chance they will tell you that they can't just give you a brand new Evo. Ask them for a case number and then write it down somewhere. Then, email [email protected] telling them what's going on, and be sure to include your number, account PIN, and the case number (if you have one). This is Dan Hesse's email addresses. He reads the emails, but they are mostly answered by his secretaries. They will call you back on a weekday probably during the same week. You'll get a call from "_________, from the Office of Dan Hesse". Explain to them the situation and be sure to detail your frustration with getting the issue solved and how this is not how a company should handle things.
Also, one of them women that called me back said that refurbished doesn't necessarily mean that the phone is opened up, gutted, and the parts are replaced with working ones. She said that some of the phones are just those that are returned because of the 30 day guarantee and then just put back on shelves. She also said that the only things that are fixed are the things that are written down by the repair specialist in the store, which is stupid because they only write down 1 problem even if there are multiple issues with the phone. Obviously, there is an issue with quality control.
It will take a while, but this is what I went through, and they were able to work with the store near my house to give me a brand new Evo, in exchange for the store getting 2 refurbished phones from Sprint. It's a white 0004 with no issues at all. They will probably tell you that you need to take the phone to a repair center again to have it looked at (the one you have on you), but tell them you've spent way too much time on this issue and you just want it fixed ASAP. If you have a preferred store, let them know which one it is.
PS: Ask for a new white one. Because the white ones were initially only offered at Best Buy, so the ones that are in the Sprint stores now are mostly 0004s, and they have no issues.
Hope this helps,
Frederick

Atrix Repair Runaround

Alright guys, I thought I'd share my my experience with Motorola's repair department. The reasons I sent my phone in were because the screen had some areas that had backlight bleeding and the MicroSD card reader didn't work.
When I first called, I was told by AT&T and Motorola customer representatives that once the phone was received by them, it would be shipped back out in two business days. Alright I happily agreed to that and opened an RMA because I needed my phone back as soon as possible. So it was opened and I sent my phone in.
The device was then received on the 4th.
I called in on the 7th to ask if it was shipped, and they said it would actually take 15 business days to ship! I was like what?! I was told two days by the other two representatives. I was then told to call back on a weekday as the repair department was closed.
I called again on the tenth to see the status of the repair and they said it should be shipped 5-7 business days from when the device was received. But I still couldn't talk to the repair department because I had called after they had closed.
I called in the next day, and they said that it would be shipped on the twelth, which was the day after.
I then called in on the 12th to make sure it was shipped, the representative said that the device should have shipped but the online repair status just hadn't updated yet and it should be updated by tonight.
I check today to see if the status has been updated, and guess what, no change, all it says is device received. So I call to make sure the device has shipped. Now I talk to a representative that says that it will actually be shipped on the 16th and he has no idea why the other three representatives said it would be shipped on the 12th. I ask to speak to a supervisor and I get transferred. I asked her why I've been given tons of different (and seemingly wrong) information by different representatives and what is really happening. I tell them that this is getting ridiculous and I have had to reschedule two train tickets and I've lost over $90 dollars because of false information I have received. The supervisor literally is speechless, all she says is please call back Monday.
What I'm wondering is that has anyone else had this kind of experience with Motorola? Or is it just bad luck on my end. And if this continues, is there anything I can do.
Wow that sounds pretty bad. How come you didn't just take the phone in to an AT&T store? My previous Atrix had a dead spot on the touchscreen so I took it back to the AT&T store. They looked at it and called an AT&T repair center so I can pick up a new Atrix that very same day. Sorry to hear about your situation, hope it gets sorted soon.

I forgot to mention I actually did go to an AT&T store. They were the ones that suggested calling AT&T and Motorola and the first ones to say that it would be shipped out two days after it was received. I had the option of going to an AT&T repair center but the closest one was an hour away so I decided to do it by sending it in.
I know AT&T used to offer warranty swaps by overnight shipment, which ususally meant getting an advanced exchange in one or two days. This was on HTC TP2s and similar phones but I think they still offer the same service if you complain about going to an exchange center.
I had the same problem with AT&T when I was on the Inspire...I pitched a big enough fit and had the retention people upgrade me to the Atrix. Best thing I can tell ya to do from my own experience would be to call the main customer care number and raise hell about the time and money you have lost...Have them.credit your account for the service and such ...it's not much but it does help a little bit.

Hm... I'm gonna give that a try, thanks.
I've had devices swapped out, and all I did was call the main AT& T tech support number. This was on several Captivates and once on my wife's Inspire, although we found out after the Inspire didn't need it (unknown sources update problems).
In all cases I was offered an overnight shipping option at a small fee. I opted out, and in all cases my replacement was here within 3 days. Swap info, send old one back, done.

I'm really sorry to hear you had such a bad experience. I actually had a similar problem with my phone regarding the screen burn image and went to the device support center. They were out of stock for a replacement Atrix but the associate placed an order for an overnight shipment. I was in possession of two phones at one time and had to agree to ship the defective one out within 14 days before facing a charge of $399. Anyway, I really appreciated the fact that I was never without a phone and the phone came in the next day and I shipped out my defective unit the day after.
They probably need to retrain the customer support reps to know the proper course of action for certain situations such as out of stock or too far of a location so that you are offered overnight shipping of a replacement.
One more question for the OP: were you expecting to get your same unit back? You said it was sent in for repair service so I'm wondering why you agreed to that instead of just swapping it out since you are still covered under the 1 year warranty.

Sending it in for repair was my only option. They told me if I went to the place an hour away I would have to drop my unit off and pick it up two days later.
EDIT: So I thought that it would be easier to just send it in instead of having to drive that far.

Yep, at least thats what the guy at the store told me.
So what are they currently doing to assist you? Are you just forced to be without a phone? I would seriously place a complaint with the BBB and with AT&T customer service. Not sure if it will help much but just to document the case at least.

That was actually something I was thinking about doing. Also I did go to the BBB site but Motorola wasn't on the list, should I put it down with AT&T?
EDIT: Oh and nothing to assist me, AT&T and Motorola said I should be able to get a temporary phone while this repair was going on but I was completely denied.

Alright I just called AT&T and they actually gave me a 65 dollar credit, which is half of my bill. THANK YOU very much for that bit of advice. Also They also said that I should call back tomorrow when the warranty center is open and they should be able to help escalate this issue further. As for the BBB complaint, if AT&T helps me out even further then I'll let it go but otherwise I'll file a complaint.
I sent my atrix to motorola also for repair got it back in 3 days unrepaired so i called them and said the water mark is still white she when on to say it could be caused by humidity i freaked and said so all the atrixs that are in texas right now are going to be void because texas has had triple digit reading for well over a month she was dumb founded and said let me escalate this higher sent me an overnight label and they have now had it for 9 days so who knows if it gets fixed this time they have the worst rating in customer service and repair...This will be my last Motorola phone
Sorry for your bad luck. Generally moto makes good hardware. All companies have lemons. What is sad is moto falls under the list of companies with general bad repair service. The only company i know of that has pretty good service overall is htc, but that might change since they're going to be more strict on warranty because of bootloaders.
I voided my warranty.
Well I got my phone back, just a heads up, like I said in the OP, they said it would be shipped on the 16th, however when I called in then, they said it would not be shipped that week at all because they had NO atrix's at all, new or refurb, and they were waiting on parts. I then filed a complaint with the BBB and informed motorola of the complaint. Guess what within an hour I got a second call saying the phone had shipped (this was at 8PM) and tomorrow morning a new phone was sitting on my doorstep. So if you guys are having major issues like me, just file a complaint with the BBB and motorola should comply.

Ok thanks for the heads up if nothing happens by tomarrow thats just what i will do
Well... I just found another issue.... No computer is able to recognize the phone. I've tried three different computers and I've tried installing the proper drivers and still, all I get is the "USB Device Not Recognized" error on all three. Time to call them back...
probably is driver. reboot phone and computer.

My Story with handtec.....

OK. SO, This was my first dealing with handtec or any of the overseas online companies.
It was on the 5th of November that I bought a Galaxy Note from them. Before I actually made the purchase, I used the "live support" to ask them regarding the availability of the product and quality support they can offer me after the purchase. The chat was very professional and I even got a discount with the phone. I ended up getting the sim free version for the price of the network logo version.
Few weeks after I received my phone, I finally have the time to have a good look of my phone, I found 3 dead pixels on the screen. Man! was I devastated! (for those of you remember my thread about it). I used the live support again and they suggested me to return it back to them asap and ensured me that everything will be taken care of and not to worry. I remember the operator said to me "Don't worry, handtec will take care of you"
After about 4 days of sending back the phone (which is today ).....my tracking status showed the item was delivered. So I immediately use the live support again to ask them about whether or not they have got the phone. They said they have, so I asked them when they will be sending the replacement back to me. They said they will try to send the replacement today.
I told them that I hope the replacement phone that I will be getting will be without dead pixels. I don't want to have to pay the expensive return postage again. They said they can help me to gain a peace of mind by letting them open my box to check to make sure. So I agreed (it took me a while to make that decision as I have always like the feeling of opening a brand new package )
I then logged off the live support, but as soon I logged off...I was like...oh crap!
I forgot to tell them to wear a glove and also make sure that none of the protectors were taken off while they check my screen. So I logged back on in about a minute after I logged off and asked them not to take off any protectors. Guess what they said to my surprise?! (apparently, it was the same operator)...and he said the check has already been done, nothing is wrong with the phone, and it is going to the warehouse as we speak, ready to be sent out today, and I will be getting it early next week.....
WOW....they must be SUPERMEN or something close....so professional and efficient.....
At this point....I would never hesitate to buy from them again in the future because they are very professional, responsible and efficient...
I will let you guys know when I actually receive the replacement back from them......and hopefully by then, I can also say...yay...my screen is PERFECT too
Anyways...thanks for hearing me out....hope I get my lovely GNote back soon!!
My experience has been near the same with them, sans the dead pixels. I placed my order with them at 1:30 EST (Im in the US) on the 28th of November. Email conformations were quick and informative. On the 29th I received an email stating that because of my first time order with them, and that I was overseas, I needed to answer some additional security questions (Credit Card Bank Authorization number, etc.) I responded quickly to this, and they continued the vetting process. I ended up calling them to be sure they had everything. They were very polite and helpful on the phone. Rather than continue to delay the shipment, they asked that they be able to send the shipment to my work address so that they didnt have to wait for the security team to validate my home address with my CC. Because of the time difference between the US and UK, they werent able to ship it on Tuesday. I checked my tracking number on Wednesday and found that they sprung for overnight AM shipping! So Thursday morning my package comes in (my only complaint here is that they didnt ship it in a box, it in a loose bubble envelope). All has been working great since! No dead pixels, and this phone is simply amazing!
Hats off to Handtec for doing it right!
Bought both SGS II and the Note from handtec. I'm probably going to continue the trend with Galaxy S III. Despite what some people say about handtec not selling "UK" version of the note, it's not like it matters much here in the US
Both times, my phones arrived in less than 24 hours from UK!!!
Glad to hear there are good experiences with them, I will have to try them out on my next phone Galaxy S3? xD

How did you reach them on the phone? I tried to call them many times, but all end up being referred to go to the website.
How can the package get there overnight? wow
what version of the note are they selling?? and where is it made (although i'm not quite sure what problems are inherent with which manufacturing site)

I agree that Handtec is a good/reliable company and also no offense to you but seriously..? In a minute? Come on... Since you said they asked for permission for opening it I assume it was opened/checked after you close the chat.
Lets see:
Closing chat with you and email or phone the Service Dept to check the phone? Time: 1-3min
Service Dept: Find your phone or any phone that will be sent, open box, open back cover and put presumably a used battery in it and start it up? Time: 5-10m if they haven't anything else to do.
Doing some quick tests directly on the phone or connected to the PC? I will give it another 3-8min because some pre-requirements might be needed.
Tests done and ready to ship, shutting phone down, removing back cover, out the battery, backcover on, phone in box closed, report made for the phone(not always), everything ready to sent and finally in it's way to the "warehouse"? Add another 10-20min
We are looking at about 20-40minutes if everything goes smoothtly. No offense OP but some common sense doesn't hurt here. Many people might jump to wrong conclusions reading that.

LOL....It is TRUE....when I was on the chat the first time I have already given him the permission to check the phone. I don't know how their company works, but when I logged back on (maybe about 30 seconds to 1 minutes after) He told me the phone has already been checked.
BTW....They only said they would check the screen with my new replacement phone as the problem with my faulty phone was with the dead pixels on the screen.
But seriously I am not sure how the company works.....I am suspecting that the company is quite small. So maybe their warehouse and return department are the same department, and maybe there are only a few people working in the company with each person doing multiple things. Therefore, it take less time for communication. I really believe they try to make their company look bigger than what it really is.
Finally, I was not being sarcastic when I told them they are supermen. I really thought that they were really efficient.
ps. all the things I have told you are what they have told me on the chat. who knows what really happened over there on the other side of the world.
They were pretty easy to get ahold of. I called their number that was listed on the website, reached an automated prompt, chose sales support and waited a few minutes on hold. Guy picked up pretty quickly. They have hours from like 7-5:30 UK time

You people must be really lucky to get the phone delivered so fast. I ordered mine with some accessories on the 29th, I have yet to get it. Fedex status says clearance delay. First, Customs wanted an itemized breakdown with value. Then they want an FCC form. Having sent many phones to the U.S, I would have expected Handtec to know what documents are required to get through Customs.
That aside their customer service is pretty good so far. I'm just frustrated I didn't have the phone over the weekend.
So finally received my gnote.
Powered up got the OTA and now I'm enjoying it. Handtec even credited my credit card because the price has dropped since I purchased it.

My replacement should get here by tomorrow
Ok....so I have finally received the replacement back from handtec. They have also given me a Travel Power Adapter as a gift. I think they have given me that because the phone was supposed to be sent to me last Friday but didn't end up getting sent on Monday (not really a big deal to me though).
I have quickly turned on the phone to check the screen and it looks fine. I am pretty sure it's a German version as there is a German Manual in the Box plus, the phone was in German when it first booted up. It is kind of weird because everything on the back of the box is in English and even says UK at the buttom.
Anyways...I will start using the phone tonight after it's being charged fully and with a screen protector on. Hopefully there will be nothing wrong with this handset
I must say this again at the end....I am very satisfied with handtec's customer service. I will definitely buy from them again!

RMA / Exchange / Return Faulty Handset UK ONLY !

OK has anyone had any experience on doing an exchange or return in the UK for a nexus 4.
I recieved mine today and the damn device is perfect in every way except the bezel had a big chunk of paint chipped off where the volume rocker is. I was gutted as the screen was pixel perfect the buttons were solid the back didn't creak. nothing.
So I thought I'll set up an exchange no problem Google are good this way. After all the guys over in the us get a shipping label send off the device and in the mean time a new one is winging its way to you. Thanks to ups.
So I spoke to Eric who said he would set up the RMA and I should send back the damaged device with the shipping label and RMA note in the email he would send.
Not so
I got the email and it had an RMA document but no shipping label.
I phoned to ask where I send it from then. Now Jeremy tells me they don't do shipping labels for the UK as its TNT that deal with things over here.
OK I thought I'll contact TNT
Nope they need a reference number for collection or before they can do anything.
So I phone back
In the mean time I check my Google account and notice the new device £279 pending. So I check my bank and find the £279 has been pre authorized on my bank account
Which wouldn't be so bad if they sent a shipping label etc as I could have it sent away tomorrow and with them next week. Well within the 21days return and they wouldnt charge me.
As it is I have no shipping label and no one can reassure me that one is or will be send and how I will receive it.
So I call up johnney at Google who tells me it should turn up but does not know how.
Well I can't have £279 pre auth out my account for a device that will ship to me sometime and £288 out my account for a device I have but is faulty so can't sell it and probably won't get a shipping label sent out therefore I'll end up with one good device which I will be charged for and another that's faulty and cannot return
That's if the exchange is OK when it comes
My god why don't they offer a door step exchange like Sony did with the ps3 etc through ups or city link
In the end I couldn't take the risk and had to cancel the exchange so that the pre auth will drop off my account and set up the RMA for the one I have to get a refund.
I know its not great but better than being charged again and ending up not being able to return the first.
From what I read over at the nexus 7 forum a lot of UK customers waited for about a month for refunds but some were 59 days or more as the shipping labels just didn't go out.
So I wanted to know if anyone had already went through this process in the UK and what the actual procedure was and how long it took to receive the shipping label etc. Did it get sent out or did you drop it off with TNT and give googles account number or what.
Any info would be great and I'm sure it would help other UK customers as I would have really liked some info.
Unfortunately we are not as fortunate as our US brothers and sisters to be able to deal with ups and simple returns.
Here's some pics of my lovely but flawed nexus

Anyone want to chip in with experiences as it would be really useful to find out what's going on in the UK since Google don't seem to know

I've just organised a replacement due to white spots on the screen and the buzzing earpiece. It took a while to get through, and I was ready to break something due to the pre recorded message about high volumes of calls on a constant loop (as in it literally repeats the second it finishes) but the guy I spoke to was extremely helpful, more so than any UK based CSR I've ever dealt with!
In terms of the procedure, he's emailing me with an RMA form and he said a prepaid postage label will come with my new device in order to send the defective one back. He also said a charge will appear on my card and once they receive the defective device they'd take the charge off.
Although my experience hasn't completed yet, I thought I'd share my experience so far.
01354 226184 that's the none 0800 number to call for UK based support by the way, for those who can't call 0800 numbers for free.
Yeah same as myself.
The issue I have with it all is they don't really know who arranges what in the UK. I was told its TNT that arrange the returns bag but TNT say its Google that have to initiate the return through TNT. Then latter sounds more sensible but Google cs don't know how to do this and presume its automatic.
Problem is you only have a limited time to get the return back to them.
If I could walk into TNT give googles TNT account number then pop the device in a bag with the RMA note I would be happy.
It would be sent off and tracked. Simply just have to wait on it being received and refunded.
What makes me uneasy is the potential for the returns bag to never turn up. You get billed for a second device and no way to return the original defective one.
I'll keep this going as there are lots of threads about returns in the US but nothing about how the process works in practice in the UK which leaves me wishing Google had a walking store or doorstep exchange service.
Also thanks for the non 0800 number

You know I remember reading somewhere in the agreement Google say that they reserve the rights to send out used/refurbished items as replacement. Maybe your nexus is one of those.
Just a suggestion: Do try to make sure you handle your RMA carefully. I recently did an RMA and the CSR sounds like a complete noob and in the email they sent me has a RMA agreement with ASUS and link on it.They're just getting real sloppy.

There is no way the RMA stock already has returned/refurbished devices in it. They have to go back through a process to be repaired, inspected, tested, and repackaged before they can be sent as RMA units and this process takes weeks or even months. Any RMA units that are sent out at this point in time will definitely be new units.
The RMA devices are new as they have as said before kept a stock of new ones aside for this purpose.
As of yet I have not had any returns envelope or shipping label etc.
I know j could use the nexus 4 just now until returned but I'm just so fed up with the whole process its left the device tainted with this experience. Its an awesome device and love the design I just can't bring myself to use it because of all this. So it will be returned as I got it if I ever get to return it

I looked at their site and it said the RMA document would be sent with my replacement, which would be despatched within a week of the 20th. Seriously, Google are a joke!
I'm trying to arrange a collection for my faulty Nexus, I have the TNT bag with the consignment letter, which has a senders account number registered to Google. The delivery address on the consignment letter is that of LG Electronics in Poland, TNT won't collect it as the delivery address that they have registered to the Account Number that I'm quoting is for Google in Belgium.
Did anyone else experience this? I'm tempted to blag it with TNT and just say that the delivery address is what they think it should be.

[Q] Front Metal Speaker lopsided returning handset?

Hi, I had my phone for a few days before I noticed that the front speaker grill was lopsided. I got mine from affordable mobiles in the UK sim-free. I've contacted them regarding a replacement and they are saying that I should have contacted them in 72 hours to report that my phone was damaged. I told them that the phone is not damaged and that it is a manufacturing fault. After quoting the Sales of Goods Act to them they have said that I could send them the phone if I want and they will inspect it but if it is deemed to be cosmetic error that it won't be deemed faulty and they will send it back to me and not replace the handset. They told me contact Samsung I did already but they said my contract is with the retailer.
Do you think the store should replace the handset? I received the phone on the 3rd of June, but I didn't use it straight away as I was waiting for cases to come.
Anyone had any success in replacing the handset because of the lopsided speaker grill? can it cause future problems?
Is there anyway to fix it? I tried to slightly push it down but that didn't work and I don't want to break anything. How is this part attached to the phone?

Personally i would go to shop , try to explain nice whats about, but if they would keep with their 72h bull$hit ....i would argue a bit and ask for manager. And i would i ask to put my phone side by side with any other demo ones to compare. Something like this is not acceptable. Its a manufacturing defect.
Thanks for the reply, unfortunately the store is only online. So I will have to send it to them through the post. In their terms and conditions they say that if your item is faulty within 28 days they will replace it but when they emailed me they said that if the problem is a cosmetic error I won't be entitled to an exchange and they will just send it back to me.
They told me to write a letter stating what I would like to do also that I should send with the phone. I will add more detail when I get on a plane as I'm typing on my phone.

Ok no problem if is online. This is what you have to do: You paid by paypal or Credit card? Either of them you have right to claim refund if the item is not as described/faulty. Its a manufacturing defect, doesn't matter is cosmetic, the phone should be flawless. So contact them again, and tell them if they not gonna replace you will ask bank to refund you and thats all.
When I ordered it I tried to pay by credit card but the order wouldn't go through, so I used my visa debit card instead. There was a deal going on and others also said that when trying to pay by credit card there system wouldn't accept payment.

So contact the shop you bought from, best is to call them. And say that if they not gonna replace you will go to bank and chargeback the transaction. Try like this, if still they gonna argue about this , just ask the bank to chargeback and thats all, but i'm sure if you gonna tell them you will chargeback they will solve this for you.
This is a quote from a bank here in Ireland:
What extra protection does Visa Debit offer me?
''If you make purchases with your Visa Debit Card and they show up damaged or not at all, then we may be able to help you recover your money in the event that you have not received a satisfactory resolution from the retailer.''
Good luck man.

thanks for your help.
I'm writing them a letter now, that I have to send in with the phone. I spoke to somebody not long ago who said that I would need to send the phone in for them to look at it before anything.
I mentioning that the speaker grill is lopsided and that it must be a manufacturing defect / fault. I'm mentioning the Sales of Goods act and my statutory rights.
Anything else anybody can think off? Can that speaker grill end up breaking/peeling off or anything?
This is horrible service, I tried getting mine through them but went with virgin instead... glad I did now, sounds like there stalling to try and wait until the 28 days is over... document everything with pictures/videos before sending it off with time/date stamps just to be safe

Hi, I finally got it replaced. I sent in a letter with the phone that I returned mentioning the Sales of Goods Act, my statutory rights etc and they sent me a new replacement phone. They didn't communicate anything with me, I just received a new phone in the post from them. The new one doesnt have the lopsided grill so I'm happy with that.
Thanks for the help too everybody who responded. :good:
