I flashed CM7 but there's problems with it, I think it's broken. I can't restore. I go to ROM Manager and click restore but then nothing happens. Tried going to recovery but there's not restore option. How do I Restore?
I have clockworkmod recovery, I can go to bootloader screen. I'm just not sure how to Recover a backup...
These are my only options in CWM
Reboot System Now
Apply update from SD Card
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
There's an error at the bottom, what do I do???
Bump for thread...
have you ever done a backup before? if you don't have the backup, you can't restore from it. recovery doesn't do automatic backup.

I have done a backup, I have 2 backup files on here. The error I get is
e: can't open/cache/recovery/command
oh, that! ok, just to verify, after that screen do you get a green text menu or blue text menu

It actually doesn't say clockwork recovery it says Android system recovery. No it's a black screen
Basically like this only the Red triangle in the background and it says the same error

ok, since you can get have clockworkmod recovery, don't use RomManager. when you see those four options as you described, select "Apply Update from SD card", then select "Backup and restore", choose your restore file and you're good to go.
also, i hope you're not using the Droid X, because this is MyTouch 3G Slide forum.

OMG THANKS SO MUCH! I was able to restore!!! I love you sir.
No, I do have a MyTouch 3G Slide
However since my Touchscreen refuses to work I suspect I'll have to unroot my phone now to turn it in. I'm following the unroot guide

The fella says I need to "If you are sending back your phone to Tmobile for replacement, make sure you flash the newest radio out as of now."

You can do so through CWM the same way. Select "Apply update from SD" and just use the zip for the latest radio (7.15) which you can grab from this thread --> [RADIO] Newest Radio from Froyo OTA 1/21/2011. Once applied just reboot and you will have the latest radio.

Hello all.
the other day i installed [ROM] VIPERrom v1.0.2. The install went great, just as any other ROM install I've done in the past. Today i wanted to try my luck with quantum but ran into a road block.
every time i boot into manual recovery mode to run the update.zip to access clockwork i get a very weird error i cant seem to figure out. Google really hasn't
been much help either.
When i hit update.zip i get:
E:can't mount sdcard/dev/block/vold/179:1 (no such file on directory)
Then another error saying the E:/update.zip is invalid or something along those lines.
I want to say this might have something to do with file structure change in viperrom maybe? Recovery is still 2e and i always boot to manual.... The phone and ROM still functions fine, i just want to try quantum or go back to baked snacks or another 2.1 variant for battery life....
I have reformatted my sd after backing up to my pc... no dice
Is a possible remedy to try and flash back to stock di18? Or could that cause issues...? what about odin?
for anyone else who happens upon this problem, just flash back to a stock release with odin.
Fixed me right up!
Thanks for the tools devs!
While you can go the Odin route, a simpler method would be to go to CWM recovery, factory reset at least 3x, clear cache at least 3x, and instead of selecting "update.zip" choose "install zip from sd card" then navigate to the ROM you want. Since you are changing ROM's all together it is not an update.

Thanks... yes, its not an update.zip, its a rom... you need to choose "install zip from sdcard" then "choose zip from sdcard"... glad you got it fixed though

i had the same exact problem couple days ago.. and fix it the same way as you hahaha.
One thing i dont understand though guys, yall said we can just install from zip where i do not see that option straight up.
All you see is reboot, apply sdcard update.zip, wipe data and wipe cache. How did yall directly go to install from zip? am i missing something?
Thanks!
I think everyone here is talking about the update.zip from the normal recovery.
For me i always have to hit apply update.zip in normal recovery to get to clockwork unless i use rom manager.
Sounds like you guys are talking about the stock recovery, not clockwork. To be clear, clockwork recovery is loaded by powering on the phone while holding the vol. down and camera buttons at the same time. If you are in the right recovery you will see the option you seek!

thanks all for the replies. i was talking about the stock recovery...
Any time i want into clockwork i do the vol d+camera+power combination.
That take me to manual stock recovery where i load an update.zip to access clockwork....
Stock wouldnt let me load clockwork anymore... Odin fixed it but this raises another question for me....
Do i have clockwork set up correctly? Should the button combo take me straight to clockwork?
Sorry for being a noob guys and thanks for the help!
I'm out and about and can't link it but noobnl posted a redirect fix that let's quickboot and root manager take you straight to clockwork. It bypasses the stock recovery thus no need for the update.zip anymore. I think that's what you need...rom manager is supposed to work with it too I believe.

If you have the current version of cw then the three button boot should take you directly to it. Not sure what the problem is, maybe someone more experienced than me will know.
Ok so I am new to this but I rooteds my phone yesterday on my mac the first time I got an error and re did it and it worked but now when i try to add different roms in the recovery screen I see every option but nandroid back up how come it is not there? Do I really need it to download roms? If so how do I get the nandroid on there?
the screen you see without nandroid, is it a white or black background?
black with blue writing
the recovery screen do you think I should just try to re root it again? If so how do i get the first root off
if it's rooted there is no need to reroot, sounds like you have cwm recovery, there should be a backup option, you won't find the word "nandroid" but that's what it is, if there is no "backup" on that screen can you please list what options are available?
im in clockworkmod recovery v2.6.0.1
and there is an option that says back up and restore which falls under install zip from sdcard
you found them, I've been using RA so long I forgot where in clockwork they are
It seems as if you are seeing the factory recovery. Do you have root? Restart into bootloader, it should say s-off at the top of the screen. If it does, you got root. If it says s-on, no root. If your not rooted run Unrevoked, at the end of the process you should have a proper recovery. If you have root, dl Rom manager from the market and let that app install cw recovery or ra.

But it still doesnt say nandroid is that ok?
@ mis fit i have the icon for super user and am able to tether so im pretty sure it is rooted but I do not see the nandroid option
yes it says s - off i just checked so now once I open a zip file i thought you had to store it in the nandroid file in the sd card but i dont have a nandroid file
in clockwork it doesn't say nandroid, that's okay, make the backup and your fine
ok cool so where do i place the zip file after they are extracted
leave it where it puts it, it can only find it there, you can copy it to your computer just in case your sdcard fails
Ok, got it, using the Rom manager app it says "Backup Current ROM" and not android. Click on that and you're good to go.
If you are entering recovery using power and vol down or a power off app like quickboot, you won't see an option for nandroid right away either, its under backup/restore.
Sorry it took so long to reply. Driving.

I've searched the forums without any luck. Anyways, I have a question about root and recovery. Yesterday I rooted my phone using a guide from the unlockr. All went well and my phone is now rooted. I want to install a new ROM on my phone and I keep reading about installing "recovery" before the ROM and I'm not sure if I've done that? Is there a way to know if I have installed the recovery or not?
Oh wow I'm stupid. On the guide it says I now have root access and a recovery image. My bad. But now I have another question; If I don't happen to like the new ROM is it easy to just go back to normal, like factory settings?
First Question
It's quiet easy.
- If you have rom manager installed, you have clockworkmod recovery installed.
- If not, try to power on your tattoo with the touches "home" + "power" until you go on the recovery. If you go on the recovery, you got it! ;-)
Second question
Before flashing a rom, do a Nandroid backup in the recovery so you can restore to your current rom with all yours data.

I have the clockwordmod recovery v3.0.0.5 and I started the phone by pressing home+power and I hit the "Backup and restore" option but there's no "Nandroid backup" thingy, all I see is "backup" or "restore", is that the same thing?
I'm running a backup right as we speak.
Yes! the backup & restore menu are the nandroid backup & restore...

Okay, thanks! The backup is done and I'm now copying the clockworkmod folder to my computer, and soon I'm gonna try flash the nFinityGB rom
cross your fingers! lol
Well, I copied the nFinityGB.zip-file and put it on the SD crad, but when i try to start it in recovery mode it gets stuck on "Tattoo" on the screen. What am I doing wrong? lol
to install the rom, you have to go in the recovery. did you push home + power buttons as well during the boot?

Yeah I did, I fixed it though by doing the root thing again, dunno why I couldn't start the phone in recovery mode. I have the nFinityGB rom now though, looks pretty awesome
Thanks for your help btw!
Recently having a problem using Rom Manager. Have downloaded clockwork recovery.
When using "Reboot into Recovery" or "Backup Current ROM" from ROM Manager it takes me to the green recovery and stops.
If I then go to "Advanced" followed by "Reboot Recovery" I then get the red ClockworkMod Recovery.
If I use the power button (Bionix 1.3.1) and chose "Recovery" it then goes to the proper "Red" recovery.
I have been using ROM Manager for approximately a year to do backups and restores, but not it seems not to be "associated or connected" with the clockworkmod recovery.
Any advice? I recently wiped cache and dalvik. Was this a mistake?
I have uninstalled and re-installed ROM Manager but had the same results afterwards.
Thanks,
rblancrt
No ideas?
No one else had this problem before?
If I select backup current rom from ROM Manger it goes to the green recovery. If I then reboot recovery it goes to the red recovery.
Worked fine for probably a year.
If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.
ROM Manager still not working properly
Thought I would try again.
When I select "Backup current ROM" from ROM Manager my phone goes to the green recovery where I have to scroll through and select backup.
Part of the purpose of ROM manager is that it is a front-end application for CWM, but it is not working as such.
Anyone know anything more about the details of how ROM manager works? I have uninstalled and reinstalled it several times but it doesn't change anything.
Have been using it for almost a year with no problems until recently.
Thanks for any info.
And after the backup is complete it goes back to the green recovery and I have to select reboot system. ROM Manager used to and should do these things automatically.
Problem solved?
Well, I guess I will never know what happened but through a "magical" combination of updates and reboots, and who knows, it began working properly again today.
Anyone has a problem with the free version?
I couldn't install it after ODIN.

You can pull a copy of it from my signature. It is an update.zip and in my dropbox so it will always be there when you need it.
up...........................
Thanks, Woodrube. Actually, I went to get the newest Rom Manager v4.8.3 from 4shared.com. Everything is OK now.

Okay so here are the steps I've done so far.
1. My phone is rooted and verified rooted with Root Checker Basic and have Super Su installed to grant super user privileges and Rom Manager is listed as being granted super user.
2. I've installed Rom Manager
3. I've selected Recovery Setup, Install Or Update Recovery for ClockworkMod Recovery, and selected LG G2 vs980 Verizon.
4. It asks me if I want to flash the "touch" version but I leave No selected and proceed to Flash ClockworkMod Recovery.
5. After it downloads (I paid the 1.99 to download it instead of manually doing it to support the devs) and flashes it says "Successfully flashed ClockworkMod recovery!".
6. It then asks me if I want to upgrade to touch recovery which I decline.
7. I then go to "Backup Current Rom" and then click okay for the backup name.
8. The phone then reboots, shows the lg logo, then stops at an android laying down with an exlamation mark coming out of his chest.
9. If I just let it sit there without rebooting it will auto reboot after a minute or so. after the phone reboots and I check the clockworkmod folder there is no backup file (of course because it never happened)
Any ideas as to where I'm going wrong? Do I need to buy the touch version for this to work or is there a painless free way to do this that I'm not aware of?
Rom manager is the problem. It doesnt work on this phone. Use flashify or freegee to install recovery. Personally see no need for rom manager ?

Ah I see, okay so I went ahead and installed Freegee for $1. On the orange and green screen it has the options to "Backup EFS", "Restore EFS", "Restore all backups", "CWM 6.0.4.6", "CWM 6.0.4.7", and "TWRP 2.6.3.3".
Is "Backup EFS" the same option that ROM Manager had to "Backup a complete image of my phone"?
If so does it just save one simple file that can be used to restore the phone should I mess it up while messing with the phone?

backup efs doesnt back up the image of your phone. this is drive partition info needed in case you corrupt a partition. it will save an efs zip file that can be used in recovery.
Efs is a file of important data about your phone, similar to bios on a computer.
To back up you're rom and data you boot into recovery and use the backup option inside the recovery

I also install ROM Manager for my D802 and I also tried to Back up the ROM. Then after reboot display not working. Only showing some white and blue lines on black background. Please help to solve this.
