[Q] Mytouch 4G TV seen on TV through Roku...?? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I have been searching and reading about UPnP and media servers etc... I can't see finding an answer without spending a whole bunch more time researching. I don't mind doing it but I am really short on time or I may loose this phone. I just got one for me and now need one for my husband. He commutes to work, 1.5 hours in a Van each way and wants to watch tv from his phone. I see that this can be done through the t-mobile tv. Now, the next step. We are trying to save money to buy a house and I am in a start up business wise... I use the internet at home to watch tv. I have one Roku and a Wii and then I watch through one computer.
We don't get the regular channels, news and some of the things that he likes to watch that I see we can get on the mytouch with the tmobile tv... can that be hooked up somehow to watch on his tv? Currently we have a 56 inch downstairs that has HDMI but that wouldn't matter for this. There is a Roku box that has a USB connection, would that work. Is there a simple answer, is this doable without spending a ton of money? Should I get him this phone. It seems the best for the price and everything... But I am doing tmobile pay as you go. What are some of the downfalls if any additionally on having this phone unlocked. Will tmobile charge me extra for things are there things to watch out for? Should it be unlocked and mod? If so can I still get the tmobile tv? So many questions. Please help. I have to get this answered, work, order battery's and a cover, charger, activate it... all of this today within the next couple of hours. Also, will square trade do a extended warranty on a private party purchased phone via Craigs list. I can call them now for that...
Any answers would be great. This is a new job for him too and he is under stress, his hours are weird, just changed to a shift that doesn't get off and home til 1:30 am, with that and dinner and then trying to fall back asleep and get up to work I don't know which way I am going!

Well, I found some answers. You can get a DG H100... a few other things. When I went to my subscribed threads I noticed that I also asked this forum a question over a year ago and not a single person bothered to respond. I have always read this forum and searched it for what seems to be intelligent and helpful people. So, clue me in. Why doesn't anyone jump in with a comment, answer or is it just that no one cares?? Any suggestions on what forum might help out a little more then?

He wants to watch TV while driving? Or maybe you mean he's a passenger.

About to purchase a JasJam and had some ?s

So i'm in saudi arabia now for the holidays and i'm going to trade my K-Jam (Wizard) in for a jasjam. Today i stopped by the Axiom service center, which is one of the most popular warranty providers here, and i asked them about the screen alignment issue and the guy told me he's had no problems with the JasJam.. is that right? I've looked in the wiki and didn't notice anything about the JasJam so i just wanted to make sure.
My other quetions pertain to rom's and programs but i guess i could figure all that out when i get the baby in my hands. But is there anything else i should be aware of before hand?
Thanks in advance and i look forward to moving over to the Hermes thread!

Well as regards the Screen Alignment problem I believe this is far less of an issue than it was. I do still see the odd comment though, that someone with a newer device has a problem.
You are obviously not new to the forum and I guess you've looked around the Hermes posts but maybe this one is relevant?

Might also want to search a bit on video playback issues regarding the likes of Coreplayer (TCPMP) where there have been issues. Also some issues with bluetooth might be worth searching. Wifi range maybe an issue 10-15metres ok but weak over this distance. One or two with slack/loose sliding keyboards - check if possible for firm clicks on open and closed when buying. Less of an issue now but some keyboards have slightly unresponsive keys - work but need very firm or firmer press again check on purchasing if possible.
Just some thoughts, despite any niggles a great device.
Mike
Thanks for your reply. As for software issues, i've read posts about them and figured thats something i'd deal with when i get the device, i'm mainly concerned about hardware issues. Wifi is pretty useless to me on a daily basis because i have the unlimitted data package, which i abuse to the MAX! that brings another question, hows the batter with a data connection always on? because the nokia N80 doesn't last through the day with its UMTS bands on.
The sliding mechanism, even if i knew nothing about the device, thats something i'd automaticly check, the sliding integrity. Also i remember about 2 months ago reading about issues with the sticky/hard keys, i'll check that out as well, but pretty sure most stores won't let me put the battery in it till i pay and after that i have to deal with the company that the device's warranty is under.j
i'm gonna do some more snooping around in the hermes thread but what bluetooth issues are you talking about specifically? i don't use a bt headset, but i might buy a stereo one if the battery can handle about 4 hours of music playback a day. Also that fossil/sony ericsson BT watch looks pretty neat, might grab one of those as well, but i just treated myself to a Concord Saratoga with the chronographs 3 days ago so don't need another watch
Thank you mike for your input and i'm really excited to get this device! i'm supposed to attend 2 christmas parties tonight, pretty sure i'm either going to be in the corner playing with my JasJam or at my parents place watching it charge!
Happy playing with new toy!
The bluetooth thing is more software than hardware, the following will give you some idea:

I cannot really summarise as I don't really use bluetooth myself.

Thanks for your replies, i skipped my best friends X-Mas dinner to go buy my Hermes... haha, its ok he's a tech freak as well and he'll understand. Just plugged in my baby into the charger and my girlfiends jealous already so can't touch it for 8 hours... so my girlfriend will keep me occupied till then
Now i've got to figure out which is the best rom and and whats the best case for me... i don't want to put a scratch on this thing, unlike my K-Jam which looked like it went through a war!!
Thanks again, heading over to the upgrading and accessories thread to bug some people there

I dare you to find a free solution

This is the challenge I've got right now. I want a Uni solution if I can. I've searched and googled but nada! I don't want to spend any money if I can help it as it is only a play thing and times are hard.
A friend has given me an old server CPU but no keyboard, no mouse or video/screen. The server needs a complete new OS install and I am planning on installing Linux or Openfiler in it. But, as I said, I don't have a K/V/M/. I only have a laptop and my Universal.
Is there a way to use my Uni or my laptop as keyboard/video to prep the server? I've got cables but no usb bridge cables or twisted network cables.
Tell me if there is a solution staring me in the eyes?
At the moment I cannot see a solution but you very so smart guys may know something I don't.
Come on! I dare you!
Unfortunately because the BIOS needs to see some polling from a keyboard, this is impossible to do without spending money. Solution? Go to a garage sale and buy a **** CRT monitor and go to the local best buy and get a $10 keyboard and $10 mouse.

Thanks

Thanks! I've sort of figured that out. But I think it would be great if we could have something like a KVM substitute. The only thing I've found was somebody using a PDA as a second monitor, something called sidewindow. Link: http://www.pocketgear.com/en_US/html/display_product.jsp?id=prod5641205
But even that is not free! But it is at least one step in the right direction. Developments on that idea would be very interesting I think.

tmobile tv

So I just realized today, whenever i first got my phone (i think its been 1 week or 2 now), one of the first things i opened was tmobile tv, i remember it saying something about 30 day free trial, I was wondering will it charge me after 30 days? If so, how do i cancel it?
This is an exceptionally good question. I haven't accepted their trial yet because I planned to wait to start until I had time to play with it. That said, I figured I'd look up the answer for you so I could post a good natured poke of "Google is your friend". Turns out Google doesn't know either and by now I'm seriously questioning if TMOB knows!
I found 4 artiicals on TMO News that were almost completely content free, so much for truth in naming. I did find a reference that the new win-7 abomination will have free tv. Seems if anyone would pay for TV people stupid enough to buy win-7 would be the ones. Still that may imply MT4G will be free as well. Of course that begs the question exactly what is it a trial of.
By this time I was fairly obsessed and checked my account. According to TMOB the only upgrade they are currently dangling is the caller tunes thing. IMO this is just about the only thing you can do with a phone that is more annoying than RING-RING. But I suppose some people like it.
My several years old opinion of cellco tv service is that it compares very poorly to just about any other form of video consumption available. Of course that was Sprint and they compare very unfavorably to just about everything. So, maybe things are different, but until I see it I remain skeptical.
So ultimately I am unable to answer your question. Might be time to just call and ask them. But where's the fun in that?!
When you open the tmobile tv app it pops up a message stating how many days you have left on your trial. Just go into the help, subscriptions, and unsubscribe. Simple as that. I just did that last night.

Hooking up to a bigger touchscreen

Is it possible to hook the incredible up to a bigger touchscreen? Here's what I have in mind...I have been working on plans for a center console for my truck and I have been thinking about building a dock for the phone and hook it up to an 8" touchscreen...mainly for navigation, but it would be nice to be able to control the phone without having to pic it up. If it can't be done then I can just get a monitor instead of touchscreen.
Well you could utilize the TV Out but touch capabilities probably wont happen but it is possible..

I was just thinking about this the other day... I searched around but couldn't find any answers.
Although mounting a tablet in the dash also crossed my mind... cost and not being able to take calls ruined that idea though..

I believe the android tablets can be made to make phone calls, that plus bluetooth and it could work
Yes they can be made to take calls... I used my Archos 101 with sipdroid and google voice as a phone for about a week. A little buggy but it works.
A tablet would cost a lot more than any other option though. I just want to know if it will work.
Anyone know the answer to this for sure either way?
WHY?

I'll try to keep this updated if I do in fact build it. It might be something I work on this week if I can find the time.
looks like an interesting project... I'll have to subscribe to this one

["Review-Thread"] The loose connection - A nice Support story

This is a Story from yesterday I want to share with you, because I thought that it is kinda nice to read.
So my Pixel 2 has a loose connection as far as the data signal goes. As long as I just charge it by using the wall-plug everything is fine.
However - as soon as data needs to travel across the USB-Port it's dead.
Regardless of whether I use my PC for Charging, Data-Exchange or the Headset-Adapter.
All cables have a bit of play. I can wiggle them around and pull them out 1-2mm with no force required.
So at first I thought it's one of those Windows 10 (or 8.1) Driver-Signature problems. After trying to disable the "BOS Descriptor" (see here https://forum.xda-developers.com/android/general/fix-unknown-usb-device-device-t3375320 or here https://forum.xda-developers.com/htc-one-s/general/guide-fix-fastboot-windows-8-1-t2858337/) for 4 hours I had enough of trying all sorts of Cables, Adapters and different USB-Ports.
I dropped the Mic and was disappointed. Yet i knew that the Support-Guy was the last Person on earth who had anything to do with my problem so I calmed down, got into the Settings and started a Chat.
Remember: Be nice to the Support staff! They have to deal with enough sh*t all day, so maybe even try to make them feel happy and respected.
I described my Problem as rich in detail as I could, was honest about what I did so far... and yet the first five minutes the Agent asked me everything I already described as I opened up the case.
Oh my nerves man! He proceeded to ask me some more questions, some of which I had not in mind to tell him (Like he asked me if I had enabled the Developer-Settings (why tho?)).
Another five minutes went by and: I got approved for an RMA! He wanted to create an Express-RMA for me (So they ship a new (refurbished) device before I need to send back mine).
However, my credit card is unlike others, it's more like a prepaid card. I need to transfer money to my N26-Account in order to use it.
But for me that's not an option either, because it would take me another two days until the money transfer would be done. I asked him kindly if we could switch to the regular RMA-Case, even if that means that I would be "offline" for a week :crying:
He needed to ask his supervisor and after just a bit of (again) waiting, he could agree with me.
We chatted a bit Off-Topic, joked around and wished each other a great day.
(Quote from him: Stay as you are, you're going the right way.).
Did you know, that (in my Case), the German support doesn't even work in Germany and that they have a big open-space office?
I just wanted this to get this out here. Please be nice to each other.
This, for me, was one of the best and kindest support-contact I had. I think we both left the Chat with a kind smile on our face.
So if you came because you experience the same problem: The RMA has got you covered.
If you came for a nice little story, I hope I could create a smile on your face.
Maybe we can use this Thread to share each others support-stories? I would be interested to see how you experienced the Google-Support. :highfive:
Well its really nice to see a positive support store. Even when people have a good experience they usually do not share that. And as you know when they are upset they tell the world.
