battery life examples - Epic 4G General

so as i scour the forums looking for new tweaks and mods, i see people posting about having 28 hours or 3 days of life on one charge. my question is...what is your best SCREEN ON time. i can make my battery last 3 days too, if it just sits there. my Max so far on cm7 is attached. let me know what you guys are getting!

i don't have a program to do screen shots, and I only replaced my battery bout 8 hours ago, but my best screen on time I can remember is about 3h 20 some minutes.

So far today is great. Running CM7. Over 7 hours and not at 50% yet...... Not really turning the screen on except to text and check a few thing...
I remember on stock ec05 and ei22 i could never get my battery to last even if i left the phone on a desk with the screen off....

whats the name of the program ur using in the 2nd pic that says battery stats and shows the list of apps that been used?

How are you getting that much life from your battery? I am on CM7 with the CM7 Kernel. After 1 hr I was at 84% and I didn't do anything but turn the phone on and get one text. After 8hrs I was at 12%, 7 missed calls, checked 3 VVM, 4 market updates, and I only made or received about 8 calls for a total of 35min. I have a stock battery that is about 14 mos old. What can I do differently?

I am running Legendary with Samurai kernel and I have broken 4 hours screen on time once. I am sure it is only once because I charge it every night so I just haven't had it on that much on other days. Currently I am at 38% with 2 1/2 hours screen time on and 13 hours on battery.

Not sure whats going on.... Maybe your in a poor service area? That drains a lot. Running services in the background?
The only things I've done was turn sync off for everything but my two k9 email accounts and brightness to the lowest setting. Kill every app I don't need running. I found a setting in CM7 where holding the back button kills the app, even if its multiple window app.

My stock epic running EI22 has 18hrs on the batt. With 5% left and screen time is 4.5hrs. It is a stock Samsung 1500 battery I bought new a few months ago. The old battery runs the phone fine when it's idle, but craps out fast with a load on it.

Battery life stinks...

Hey guys what is up. I'm just wandering.. my Droid is brand new. Got it 2 days ago. Today I had to recharge my battery twice. I did use it a lot... so that may be it.. and when I didn't use it the battery life stayed the same for as long as I didn't touch the phone. Is my battery good? I got the app that tells me the temperature and everything. The hottest was 112F. It says my battery health is "good health". Will my phone hold a charge for a longer period of time after it has been charged then drained... and repeated. Does it just need to be broken in? Thanks for reading this whole essay I wrote you guys.. Haha. Well thank you so much again... and if you can please get back to me as soon as possible that would be great!

You should really search a little bit before you post. There are COUNTLESS threads on battery life.
Your best bet, until HTC fixes it, is to charge until the phone says you're at 100%, then turn it off and charge until the LED turns green. Charging and discharging really won't affect anything - their is no "memory" with their batteries.
Okay, thanks for the quick response. I appreciate it. Sorry. I should've read.. I was just a bit anxious. My apologies.

You could always trying running one of Hydra's Kernels as well. I don't know if anyone has gained better battery life because of doing so... I use his kernels for the features.

Check Settings > About phone > Battery and make sure up time and awake time aren't the same.
If they are the same, it means something is keeping your phone awake when the screen goes off, which drains battery.
I just got my Droid Incredible a few days ago too, and I knew coming into it that the battery life has issues from a lot of users, but man, it really sucks!
I have it fully charged at 8am, and by 3:30 (with very moderate use), it's already at 20%. I've disabled everything I can (WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, live wallpaper, installed ATK and keep my tasks at none, etc), and still the same.
I really love the phone (it's amazing other than battery), but the battery life is such a big deal for me that I am really thinking about returning it and waiting for the Samsung Fascinate to come (hopefully sooner than later). Thankfully I have until Aug 30 to call Verizon and return the phone... i sure hope the Fascinate gets a definite release date by then.
I'm going to try the full charge + phone off + charge again to see if that improves things, but other than that, does anyone recommend the Seidio 1750mAh battery or the HTC Touch Pro2 OEM (1500 mAh) battery? Does it make that much of a difference?
I read the findings on batteryboss.org, and it appears that the TP2 battery was better but the Seidio battery they tested was a used one, so it wasn't a fair comparison.
Any thoughts/help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
Loose atk....and read. I get a full 18 plus hours and I don't bump charge. Lots of info out there

I purchased a 2150 mah battery from verizon and i can say I wont be having battery issues.. that is one option, but you wont find a case that fits your phone, that is the only downfall
I was just reading reports about the new Facebook app...looks like they are working on that fix if you use that and it is causing a battery drain
http://www.androidcentral.com/facebook-confirms-battery-drain-latest-android-update
Uninstall the 1.3.0 facebook app RIGHT AWAY if you downloaded it. That destroyed my battery life yesterday and I have never had battery problems with my DInc.
You can just use the regular HTC Facebook app until an update is released for the facebook for android.
Try it without the new facebook for a day and see if it changes.
If you don't have the facebook app then just make sure bluetooth, gps, wifi are off when you aren't using them. I recommend trying bump charging but I've never personally and my phone lasts about 26-28 hours+ with mild to heavy usage depending on the day.
-Flawless
Thanks for the replies..I don't use Facebook so that wouldn't be my problem.
I think ATK is good.. I mean I don't have it on auto so I sometimes just kill all tasks and I have noticed any decrease from the already poor battery performance.

I get decent battery life when I charge fully then turn off then plug back in til light turns green but its a pain in the ass to do dat.. I believe my awake time is like 3-4 hrs with an uptime of like 18-19 hrs

I have a Sedio 1750, which I bump charge every morning, and UltimateJuice set to turn on APN every 5 min for 30 sec or until data transfer is done. WiFi is used whenever possible and otherwise turned off.
I easily make it through the day and have battery to spare with moderate to heavy use.

What is up with the battery life on 2.3.3?

After replacing the battery with a 1600 mah Seidio battery. I still get bad results. For example, during lunch today my phone was at 50% in my locker. After 4 hours, I was at 21%. My Sync, GPS, BT and Wifi are all OFF.
How is this possible?
I use to own a Nexus One and in 4 hours it would go down 2% with CM6. Is Gingerbread an issue here or does my phone need RMA repair?

superaosp from [email protected] stock kernel or redstars depends but cm7 and stock OTA gave me better battery than 2.2/2.1
I'm running stock 2.3.3 and battery life is by far the best over various android versions.
2.3.3 has some weird bug where every once in a while the system gets into a weird drain state like it doesnt go into deep sleep correctly. i just got hit with this last night. it does happen all the time, most of the time on 2.3.3 battery life is excellent. i will lose 6% over 8 hours. but when that awake bug DOES kick in, battery drops like yours did.
you just have to reboot and check it again, the bug likely will clear itself and you wont see it again, for a while.

My N1 on 2.3.3 goes completely dead after 12hrs. I found the solution when doing a Google search. It's to go to Wifi Settings, Advanced, Wi-Fi sleep policy, and change it to Never. You'd think that would reduce battery life, but for some reason now my phone's battery life is very significantly improved. Now it's only down to about 30% after 19hrs when I put it on the charger.
It appears that 2.3.4 will address battery issues in Gingerbread.

I dont think its Gingerbread, ive used both stock and CM7 on my N1 and i was having good bat life on N1 stock gingerbread about 5-6 hours with heavy use, and with CM7 official rom i get 7-8 hours heavy use and up to 19 hours on days i barely use the phone, and on standby i can confirm 8 hours (while im asleep) it drains 6% by the time i wake up of course i do have it personalized and settings applied for bat savings.
I haven't encountered this bug with CM 7.0.3 (based on 2.3.3) but I found it very useful to let the phone just drain the battery completely once in a while (once in a few weeks) and than fully charge it.
After doing that, I can go through two days with regular usage of the device
I'm on CM 7.0.3, 2.3.3 and I'm only getting 13-15 hrs if I'm lucky. Wifi and bluetooth are off only syncing gmail and google contacts. I barely even touch my phone at work for 8 hrs and the battery life sucks.
Another weird thing is that once it gets to 15% left it just automatically dies and shuts down...very frustrating, I'm on the latest pershoot kernel too, the phone was given to me for free last month and it was originally purchased in Feb '10 so I just figure the battery is old and worn out.

No. Your battery is not aged, it just needs re-calibration.
One simple way is to re-calibrate your battery is to charge it when the phone is off or charge using a desktop charher, and you have to over-charge a bit - just leave the battery connecting to power source for an additional 1 hour or more, when the charging process has been completed.
This works every time for me.
Keep in mind that from time to time the battery may need to be re-calibrated again for peak performance.

Hey i new to this, i have a UK I9000, that i recently updated to JVO on kies. I previously had my phone replaced by samsung due to battery issues. but my new one seems to be the same. I can just about get 14 hours or so of use out of it. I have brightness set to outo, auto sync on, have an gmail and an exchange email, also am on 2g/3g auto. i am unsure if i should flash to custom? i keep reading that people are getting 2days out of their battery. i would say that not a heavy user!! could do with some advide! thanks
If I am always in a wifi area I probs get about 4 or 5 days. If though 3G is on i've known it to go from 100% to phyically off within a matter of hours even when not actually using the phone.
Sorry but i am amazed from these screenshot.
I am difficulty arriving to the night.
My phone is having the standard battery, with two google accounts setted on sync and i really use it FEW... 3 hours of display? A dream.
I am on 2.2 because it is branded and i really wonder how u can achieve 2 days. 5 days with moderate use i would shot my head to achieve it.
Someone can give me a good advice?
Also, how are u taking the battery history?
Considering display and mobile data are the biggest battery drainers, we more detailed information than just time on. Give me display usage.

Best configuration for three days of battery!

Hello beautiful, sorry for my bad english!
We can write here, comparing ideas and impressions of all, what is the best configuration to protect the battery?
It may seem an obsession, but now it is summer and it often happens that the cells can not just load it because I have an outlet in attack.
So often I stay off her cell phone.
The Nexus S promises, but together with your expertise, I would like to figure out how to stay on the nexus s for as long as possible.
To understand Configuration: os (cyanogen, stock, AOPs, etc. ...), the kernel, governor settings, launcher, widgets, various tricks (NFC disabled) ...
There were?
Can we make the battery last for three days ?!?!?!?!?!!
-------
Let me explain, I have the latest nightly cyanogen, the 88. Off data always when I'm around and I do not use the internet. I do not need the push, so no active sync. The wifi I turn it on only at home or at work, I have WhatsApp, twitter and I uninstalled facebook to try what were saying that facebook consumes battery. I have launcher pro and Gtasks widget for notes in gmail, news and weather widget for news that is updated every 6 hours, if it's on the Internet, and then all program icons. I have installed very few, narrow required.
The kernel is the 1.3.3 universal netarchy signed cfs (the bfs? Is not that I had to use the bfs what do you think?).
This afternoon I used the GPS a few minutes to find an address, then he arrived, I turned off the GPS and data, with the widgets "Power Control" modified cyanogen.
Some short calls since this morning and some short text messages, not even 10. Some web browsing on 3G, but not much.
Well, after all this I can tell you that after only 11hours 18minutes 5seconds the battery is already 42% (97% this morning after recharge).
I'm not coming to pass even 23 hours which is what you do with a simple stock 2.3.4.
What is the sense I'm in the kernel and cyanogen netarchy? Only to change some other small lockscreen?
I need the battery! And I have already explained why.
The other ROM that you have listed does not come from cyanogen?
They are not "pure" cyanogen changed? Implemented? Correct?
Let me know ....
The AOSP where they come from? They are like cyanogen, a family on its own? O derived from cyanogen, too?
Now I remove the cyanogen and try something else.
What do you suck a lot in my phone? WhatsApp? Imagine if gripping always-sync data and as some of you! Not even 10 hours would last.
In the processes running there: Settings - 1 and 0 process services (21MB), WhatsApp - 1 process and 2 services (8.8 Mb), Market - a process and a service (11Mb) Maps - a service process and 1 (5.8 Mb) Google services - 2 processes and one service (15Mb), keyboard Android - a process and a service (8.9 Mb) - TOTAL: 153Mb used and 152 free.
It's right? Do you have it?
I just do not understand where mistake ... help me ...

in most cases that would be correct but in reality no phone running android without an extended battery will achieve 3 days. BUT my 4g did go 2 days/8hrs with medium usage.
I can see two days no prob with some average use. You could maybe get 3 days if the screen brightness was at zero, setcpu locked at 500mhz Max and constantly toggle airplane mode when not using it.
What fun is that though.

Correct. There are so many variables. Some say their battery lasts 7hrs. What we never know is if their homescreen looks like a widget bomb exploded on it, everything set to auto sync every hour and brightness at 100% while they use it like a mini laptop non stop.
At work I get like 5 hours. I use it redicously heavy almost all day.
The two biggest battery killers are tapatalk and web browsing. If that is all you do, yep you will never make it past a day.

I think this is pretty accurate.
Typically, with average use (by my estimation) I get about 22-23 hrs between charges.
Average use is defined by
*Netarchy kernel overclocked to 1.2GHz with SetCPU (screen off profile set to 500MHz)
*2-3 hrs of talk time (with about -85dBm signal on average - or at least that's what it is when the call starts)
*push email for 3 IMAP accounts at 5min check intervals and sending and receiving at least 75-100 emails per day
*push gmail with 60 or so emails per day
*fancy widgets updating location every 30 mins.
*Seesmic twitter widgets on homescreen updating 3 accounts.
*Facebook widget
*locations service always on
*wifi never sleeping
I think that's most of what's running.
Battery life on the NS4G has made me laugh at my Evo's 8hr charge and has actually made me use my phone MORE out of confidence that my battery will last.

Do not forget SCREEN ON TIME and AWAKE TIME, those are the two most important variables of all!
fixxxer2008 said:
in most cases that would be correct but in reality no phone running android without an extended battery will achieve 3 days. BUT my 4g did go 2 days/8hrs with medium usage.

I went on a vacation out of the states so I couldn't use my phone. It was charged before I went and I just left it in airplane mode for the whole trip, and occasionally used it for music and a calculator. After about 4 days it went dead, I was surprised it lasted that long.
fixxxer2008 said:
i bet with heavy usage i could go about 24hrs. i used my phone alot yesterday and still had great life on a stock battery. i guess everyones phone is different. it also depends on what kernel and rom you use.

I'm not sure if you have let the battery die all the way to 0% and then charge it overnight. Do this 4-6 times a month and you will see a huge increase in battery life.

Yeah you should do this only when calibrating the battery which should need to be done very very infrequently it not at all.

Battery Stats Thread

Now some of us have had the phone for a few days or in the case of our German friends, a week, can we start to collaborate some stats together about the battery usage?
Post in here screen shots of your (Epic) Battery stats, or not so epic as the case may be, screen on time, hints and tips on improving daily usage, what Rom you are using if Rooted etc.
Here is a current shot of mine, charged to 98%, then data etc turned off about 1am, phone left switched on, then data, wifi etc turned back on this morning. Currently 1 hr 15 mins screen on and 67% battery left after 18hrs.

should have left everything switched on!
im not someone who feels they should have to turns bits and pieces on and off in order to make my phone last the day.
if it lasts a good long day with decent usage throughout, thats good enough for me!
Plenty of time for that usage test, i just decided to turn it all off last night while drunk to see what was used by the morning, it lost 1% during the night, granted it was only about 6 or 7 hours. I think general use stats will shape up quite nicely on this phone.
EDIT:
Power save on at the moment as well, CPU Power, Display and Vibration checked, Data connection unchecked.
Closing in on 39hrs here at the moment. :victory:
I have a question for the Germans, where exactly have you got your One?
My parents are at Berlin right now. (without taking me :crying: ) I may still benefit from their trip (besides an empty house).

You would be better off posting in a thread for German owners.....this one was for pre order deals in Germany, but you might get a reply from someone.....http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2157246

upload screen grab to Dropbox or your desktop or wherever you upload pics, use the paperclip icon when you reply to a post and use the pop up window to browse to wherever the pic is located, then hit upload and it should be attached to your post.
I lost 1% overnight with power saver enabled went to bed at 11 got up at 7. Amazing

Browsing, texts, calls, light usage i know, but i still have my One X in use as well while my number is ported.....currently standing at almost 2½ hrs screen on, over 44hrs on battery.
Tomorrow will start normal usage trial with no wifi on and data etc on all the time. I'm trying to see what i can get out of it, and then what i can't.
Okay, this where i got to with my stats. Today i will try for more normal usage and see what i can get with that.
My latest stats

Where are people getting the screen on times from? It used to be in the stock battery app but if it's not there the what third party app are people using?
Here is a shot of my first normal day, not massively epic but not too bad, no power saver until maybe the last 1 hour or so.
This includes Bluetooth car connection, some calls, lots of whstsapp and facebook. Small bits of web browsing, 20 to 40% brightness. Photos in the evening and then lots of foruming the last few hours.

Gsam battery monitor from Play store.
Here is my latest stats
Sent from my HTC One using xda app-developers app
For people who arent rooted - use gsam battery monitor.. post the normal page showing the big clunk battery with the screen time
Also post the battery history page from gsam or from htc..
Also post the app sucker page..
For rooted people- use better battery stats.. post kernel wakelock, partial wakelocks and alarm pages on here along with the battery history.. then everyone will get an idea how the battery works and people will even help you to find which apps cause wakelocks...
