What is up with the battery life on 2.3.3? - Nexus One General

After replacing the battery with a 1600 mah Seidio battery. I still get bad results. For example, during lunch today my phone was at 50% in my locker. After 4 hours, I was at 21%. My Sync, GPS, BT and Wifi are all OFF.
How is this possible?
I use to own a Nexus One and in 4 hours it would go down 2% with CM6. Is Gingerbread an issue here or does my phone need RMA repair?

2.3.3 gives me better battery than 2.1 or 2.2

superaosp from [email protected] stock kernel or redstars depends but cm7 and stock OTA gave me better battery than 2.2/2.1

I'm running stock 2.3.3 and battery life is by far the best over various android versions.

2.3.3 has some weird bug where every once in a while the system gets into a weird drain state like it doesnt go into deep sleep correctly. i just got hit with this last night. it does happen all the time, most of the time on 2.3.3 battery life is excellent. i will lose 6% over 8 hours. but when that awake bug DOES kick in, battery drops like yours did.
you just have to reboot and check it again, the bug likely will clear itself and you wont see it again, for a while.

yes, this is exactly what the bug is. sometimes randomly on GB the phone stays awake for no reason, for hours. but when this DOESNT happen, batteyr life is superb. i only get hit with this bug once a week or less.

My N1 on 2.3.3 goes completely dead after 12hrs. I found the solution when doing a Google search. It's to go to Wifi Settings, Advanced, Wi-Fi sleep policy, and change it to Never. You'd think that would reduce battery life, but for some reason now my phone's battery life is very significantly improved. Now it's only down to about 30% after 19hrs when I put it on the charger.

It appears that 2.3.4 will address battery issues in Gingerbread.

But improvements are always welcome

I dont think its Gingerbread, ive used both stock and CM7 on my N1 and i was having good bat life on N1 stock gingerbread about 5-6 hours with heavy use, and with CM7 official rom i get 7-8 hours heavy use and up to 19 hours on days i barely use the phone, and on standby i can confirm 8 hours (while im asleep) it drains 6% by the time i wake up of course i do have it personalized and settings applied for bat savings.

I haven't encountered this bug with CM 7.0.3 (based on 2.3.3) but I found it very useful to let the phone just drain the battery completely once in a while (once in a few weeks) and than fully charge it.
After doing that, I can go through two days with regular usage of the device

I'm on CM 7.0.3, 2.3.3 and I'm only getting 13-15 hrs if I'm lucky. Wifi and bluetooth are off only syncing gmail and google contacts. I barely even touch my phone at work for 8 hrs and the battery life sucks.
Another weird thing is that once it gets to 15% left it just automatically dies and shuts down...very frustrating, I'm on the latest pershoot kernel too, the phone was given to me for free last month and it was originally purchased in Feb '10 so I just figure the battery is old and worn out.

No. Your battery is not aged, it just needs re-calibration.
One simple way is to re-calibrate your battery is to charge it when the phone is off or charge using a desktop charher, and you have to over-charge a bit - just leave the battery connecting to power source for an additional 1 hour or more, when the charging process has been completed.
This works every time for me.
Keep in mind that from time to time the battery may need to be re-calibrated again for peak performance.

Losing Battery life pretty fast now.. why?

I flashed my vibrant to bionix 1.3.1 a while back, pretty much a week after is was released. Its been great up to about 2-3 days ago. I had a full charge at work at today around 2 pm, I got home and checked the battery life at around 6 pm it was at 72%. I sent out about 4 texts lastnight. Got up this morning is was at 44%. I used to get about 2-3 days out of light use. It will probably be dead by 2 pm again today.
What gives?
Network data off -
Black background -
Brightness is the lowest -
Idk maybe randomly reading it wrong? P.s. Why dont people charge their phones at night?!?!? Thats what I do
Oh i do as well usually. But like i said, the battery is starting to drop so fast that by lunch that day it was already at like 49%. By 2 pm is was full and so on. I just dont understand why its dropping so fast thats all.
Might have something to do with the battery
Check what's running in the background. The other night I was just using the phone normally and put it to sleep, checked it a few times and it was dropping 1% every 15 minutes or so. Noticed it kept checking into something. VVM and Market Checkin was running, killed it and it seemed to help. Also discovered (might not be true) that the New MAPS and GMAIL apps constantly check in and drain the battery after removing the updates phone seems to last longer/as it did before..:/
oo maybe that might be it. I Just updated a boat load of my apps a few days ago. P.s. how do you remove just the update?

or sadlly Your battery cant hold the juice anymore because it was recharged to zero few times too many , sorry
This is crazy. I just came to xda to post my bionix 1.3.1 battery problem. I been running it for a week and no issues. But this morning I took the phone off the charger and within 10 minutes of using it I was down to 85%. Usually after my morning usage I'd be around 93-95%. But that's not the issue I wanted to post.
I was trying to wait for Black Ice since Frost had the best battery life of any rom I've tried...just not feeling the Frost theme. So I started to download the Frost zip & got the phone on the charger.
Even after I put it back on the charger my battery life kept going down. Plugged it in at 85% and a few minutes later I noticed it was at 83%

I have the same problem. I have system panel running all the time. When I sleep, the phone sleeps too and uses about 1% of battery per hour. But when im actually using the phone, even if the use is minimal like sending a few texts etc. The battery consumption is far greater than the use. Top apps in system panel monitoring is usually system process and system itself. How do I correct this issue?

Bionix - Best battery life ever!

;D I'm running Bionix v1.3.1 and the battery life is AWESOME. Yesterday, I did a LOT of texting, gaming and talking. By the end of the day, I still had 90%.
Usually, if I do that on any other ROM, by the end of the day, I'd probably have around 0%-30%
I didn't recondition the battery, either.
BUT ONE THING, I've NEVER EVER experienced a problem with the GPS on my vibrant, but right after flashing V1.3.1, it wouldn't work anymore. It'd take like 15 mins to lock D:<

Same here, running 1.3.1 with the overstock kernel, keeping wifi on all day due to the great wifi sleep policy, after an 8 hour work day of moderate to heavy use my battery is at about 70% everyday. I don't even want to update to the newest version of overstock, too scared to lose what I have.
Edit: And my gps works flawlessly, but I've done the hardware fix on it.

Hate calling people liars but I will never understand people who get 2 days wiht an oem battery. I jsut dont see someone besides an extremely light user getting 2+ days without a charge. I got 2 days with my 2700mah extended battery.

This is probably as accurate as you can get:
Heavy use: 6 hours or less, MAYBE 7, but unlikely if its heavy use.
Moderate use: 10-14 or less, no more than 14.
Light: a day, and possibly more.

It was good for me but no as good as Trigger, but the rom that lasted more on a charge for me was Azura,it had incredible battery life.
I used to get 2+days battery life on mine when I was running previous version of Bionix. I can't recall which version it was, i think 1.2.0. It was when the froyo was released for the vibrant i believe january-febuary-ish. After flashing to 1.3.1, i can't get passed to 24hours anymore. Also all my settings, syncs, wallpaper (etc..),except the modem, kernel, and 2 scrabble apps, where similar. The KB1 modem was one of the culprits of the drain and i have it replace with the JK and KA variants (still testing which one is the best). KB1 was awesome with my gps locks though with almost 3 meter accuracy with 8/12 sats locked). The speeds were also like +1-2mbs depending on the location and this was tested with a friend that has JKx modem. Also google googles and the 3d gallery up was not shutting down the sensor server which was draining the battery hardcore. Until now I still havent been able to replicate how I got the 2days battery life. I could revert to the previous bionix version because i have a back up too but this battery issue is not really that of a problem.

I think I figured it out.....I think it was Skype. If you sign in the app is always on...it doesn't have an exit feature. There is, however, an app to close it. I used it and got normal battery life today!
We'll see if it keeps working like it should.
So I've upgraded to 2.3.4, (Ficeto.Deodexed.XXJVP) and Android OS battery drain stopped. Now it shows 70% battery usage on display (before it was 70% android OS). I recommend updating your system too
with darky on medium use never had more than 14 hrs )

Are you willing to flash the rom again? or you can try to use the speedmod 15g t11 for the kernel to replace the JVP kernel.
it's said that when you use the USB connection to your PC, you need to reboot it. So this battery drainage will not happen.
In the ROm 2.3.3 JV5 and JV6 for Asia, I do the same to keep the batter alive.
Try backing up everything and then factory reset phone. Generally this happens because of a few unwanted applications excessively using ur processor, in turn draining battery or there may be a malware that stealthily connects itself to the net. This will almost certainly cure the disease. If it doesn't, then there is a serious defect in ur hardware or some of ur system app required for properfunctioning of the phone is corrupted, causing excess pressure on the processor
It is a big problem to everyone, I charge twice per day for this.
Calibrate your battery
Let the battery go down to 0% and turn off
Then turn the phone on, it'll turn itself off again cause battery is low
Keep doing this until its totally 0%
Plug in the charger, charge it to 100%
Turn the phone on
Download SGS Tools from the android market place
Run the app
Go to "scripts"
click delete battery stats
Unplug charger & you're done
battery should be more stable now
go to settings
applications
running services
check what you have in the background
close them down if they're unecessary
I get through the workday with only 10% loss
If you have an really old SIM card, try and replace it with a brand new one. This may also help. I had bad battery run time with two LG Optimus 2x phones (about 10 hours) and not so stellar 20 hours with the i9000. Finally I stumbled over some advise to replace old SIM cards. Since mine was over 12 years old, I ordered a new one. It is not gonna change the world, I know, but it was worth a try .

Battery life with pudding 2.3.4?? Anyone experiencing phenomenal battery life??

I just recently unlocked bootloader, flashed 2.3.4 pudding and rooted and am experiencing insane battery life. For example, this morning I unplugged at 7:30 am and had work at 9 am. I work at AT&T so I am on my phone a significant amount of the day especially compared to the 'heavier' users out there. This morning was extremely slow and I spent most of the morning downloading and installing apps mostly from 4shared.com, heavy usage. Later in the day I used the phone for 3 customer service calls, all fairly lengthy. I also had set my cpu to 1000 MHz using SetCpu and my brightness cranked all the way up. I let 4 of my employees use my phone to demo for customers and showed my front row video of Raging Bull at Six Flags Great America 5 or 6 times. All the while playing Words with Friends with the old lady and sending and receiving about 50 texts. Pretty heavy use and a typical day for me.
It is 8 pm and I am at 40% still!! I am thoroughly impressed after 2 days of flashing new rom.
Please give your feedback on battery life on 2.3.4 and let me and others know ifI you are experiencing something similar.

I stated the phone was mostly idle today. My phone has been idle like that before (entire day) and on 2.2.2 the battery was at 20% or so usually.
edit: IMO testing the battery usage when the phone is idle is probably a more accurate test between 2.2.2. and 2.3.4. It helps see how much battery the background services run on 2.3.4. With the screen on/phone in active use there's too many variables that are draining the battery = tough to make an accurate comparison. That is unless you have some sort of automated test script running that enables the screen and automatically walks through several apps for 2+ hours. I doubt anyone here does that though .

agree with that, especially with screen time going past 1-2 hours.
I'm not rooted or anything... I have AT&T version. I get horrible reception in my home so I usually turn off data network and have wifi on. I was using "extend controls" app from market... no with the update a few things wont work namely the widget to turn off data network connection. I see the problem, it renames the wrong APN (AT&T US Tether)... the default APN is AT&T HSDPA, not sure if its okay to switch. That all said my battery drains VERY fast... Went to bed at around 1am with 50% and was totally drained (phone died) by 8am. My only thought is that it was searching for a signal all night with wifi on...
Any thought on this?
I have had amazing battery life. I closed tonight so my routine was pretty much the same. I usually listen to iheartradio for about 2 hours while im counting down drawers other wise idle except for checking twitter on my breaks. That usually puts me at somewhere between 30-40% and I got home with 70% today...
I've somehow managed to get 2 days and 11 hours while still being at 12%. I haven't really used it much, with only ~3 hours of screen time, but I did use it for about 2 hours to listen to music with.
(On RedPill, not just 2.3.4 pudding)
My battery life seems terrible. Was on Gingerblur 4.5 and unlocked rooted and flashed ken's "safe" 4.5.91 update and my battery just died in 5.5 hrs. Anyone got suggestions?

Do you have the 4.5.91 radio (radio section near the bottom of the 1st post)? Settings -> About Phone -> Baseband Version = N_01.77.30P
Glad battery life is looking good. I'd love to see some comparisons to non OEM batteries. I know some say 2k+ mAH but you never know about quality.
I think the dual core CPU is to thank here. If processes are getting completed much quicker, then that means less active CPU time.
Unlocked, rooted, over-clocked @ 1100mhz, Kenneths Rom. My battery is outstanding! Under-clock to 750 with screen off and run "maximum battery saver" mode. Runs flawlessly and no issues.

Very Strange Battery Stats - Help Appreciated

I've just flashed PA latest build (dirty) and my battery stats are pretty messed up, apparently Bluetooth was the biggest drain on my phone, 57%, and it was on for nearly 50 days.
I don't use Bluetooth and obviously a battery lasting 50 days is nonsense.
I've had a search and found people experiencing high drain from some services, or reporting 100% charge as soon as plugged in, but can't find anything resembling my problem.
Is there a way of resetting these stats without having to do a full wipe. I tried charging to 100% but they remain.
get battery calibration app, should delete the stats shouldnt it?

Waste of time. Just charge your phone to full and battery stats are wiped.

Thanks for replies. I did a charge last night but the stats remain. I probably didn't charge to 100% just almost 100%.
I find that it can take up to 30 minutes to go from 99% to 100%. I will leave it charging overnight and hopefully that will sort it
That Bluetooth figure just seems weird, and I have no idea where it came from??

I can't help myself........ Need attention
Seriously though it's a bit strange that we both got that, could these be the stats of the ROM builder and they got left in somehow?? I know the 15th June version wasn't official and just put out for feedback. Apart from the battery thing it's awesome

Probably, but I guess its just derp. Anyways running Franco kernel and PA on this and get 5.5 hrs of sot with YouTube and music playing all the time xda browsing Facebook and mostly on WiFi but on 3g when WiFi signal is lost when I go outside. Auto brightness on and screen does take up juice outside but I believe I could get 7 or 6 hrs if I played with settings, underclocked, minimum brightness etc...
