well my htc hd2 is using android and using it a year by now and notice that the upper left of the screen is not working?is it the lcd or digitizer or just need to align it?i dropped this many times(up to 5 times i think)but no damage on the housing and it looks new,and it is annoying in some games cause it wont work and i notice a very little red dot on that part.....pls help
If you lost sensitivity and the screen does not respond to touch, then it's a digitizer, if picture is distorted or, as you describe, a red dot appeared where it shouldn't be - LCD, sounds like both in your case. I am not quite sure how it doesn't work in games or whether the problem is present in normal screens. Alignment is a procedure to tune and correct mistakes in touch recognition or to make touch more precise on resistive screens.
I suggest replacement of your LCD + DIGITIZER. Dropping it many times may have caused it too, even if housing looks perfect.

Hi,
Recently ive repaired a HTC Universal, put it back together as best as i could.
Now when i do touch the screen with a stylus, the screen has funny colours behind it. It kind of like when you touch/ prod your Computer LCD. It only happens when theres pressure on the screen so its not really a huge problem. The touch screen is definately there cause when i tap the screen it responds (e.g i tap start and the menu pops down).
If its normal then i can take it, but if its not im complaining to the ebay seller.
This doesent happen when i put any form of pressure on my HTC magician LCD, so im curious.
Let me know what happens with your universal
Cheers,
Whitemoo.
This is not normal behaviour of any touchscreen device!!
hmmm... well i just looked at the broken lcd screen, and even though the LCD itself is shattered, the touch screen is in perfect nick.
I put pressure on the touch screen and couldnt see any of the symptoms i saw on my current LCD
You guys recon i should swap the touch screen over? either way im complaining to the sellers, DODGY.
whitemoo.
from my knowledge, im pretty sure its normal. it happens sometimes on my 9000 so yeahh....
Hi,
The touch screen of my HTC elf doesn't work anymore.
I am going to order some parts to change the digitizer myself and also the casing to make it look a little newer.
Anyway, I'd like to understand how the touch functionality works exactly. Is it a pressure on the digitizer itself that make a "touch" or is it a pressure on the digitizer that press the screen and this action make a "touch" ?
When I power my disassemble Elf, a pressure on the screen itself doesn't do anything....
I'd like to know if I need to order a screen as well
Hi,
just replaced my own elf's digitizer a month ago... and the phone is like new.
To answer your question it's the digitizer that reads pressure and sends the data to the system (if you already disassembled it you should have noticed a flat cable that connects the digitizer to the board).
So if the screen on your elf is working you should solve the problem by replacing only the digitizer.
You rock, I order now
So, I had a nightmare - was chatting on my phone, stumbled, dropped the thing dead on to concrete.
The screen now has cracks running across it from top to bottom and a few snowflake/spider web looking cracks in it.
Whilst I can still read the screen and amazingly the touch sensitivity hasn't been affected, I don't want a smashed up phone.
So to clarify - my phone works fine, it scrolls and picks up typing etc etc - it is totally useable but the glass screen that protects the LCD screen has been damaged pretty badly.
Can I just buy a new screen for it? Or will I need an entirely new phone?
Cheers
A search goes a long way...

This is my first post here and though i read similar posts on this subject i would
like to read your opinions on this one.
I accidentally dropped some water on my touch hd and my display got damaged. The phone worked fine and so did the digitizer but the problem was that the backlight of the display was dead.At some point the backlight turned on but when i tried to input the unlock code it turned off right away (did this several times).I knew that i should replace the lcd (and the digitizer just in case).
I bought the lcd and the digitizer seperately and i managed to assemble the phone back using the service manual.Since then when i turn the phone on I hear the starting sound,i get the vibration then after a while the screen with no backlight again displays the "tap here to configure your phone" screen (after the hard reset),when i tap i get no response.
I checked the connections many times and i also used a second digitizer with no success.
Is there a possibility flashing a new ROM will solve the problem?
If so is there a way of flashing a ROM when the phone's screen is not usable?
Waiting for your precious opinions/suggestions/knowledge
Thanks in advance.
Hello,
Flashing the ROM won't solve an obviously hardware problem.
If you changed the LCD and still have no backlight, then either you bought a defective screen, or the problem is elsewhere, maybe on the main electronic board... Which would be bad news.
BTW, I wanted to change the digitizer in the apst years, but its not provided with the glue, so I had to buy a whole assembled screen + digitizer.
How did you manage to glue the digitizer on the screen ?
I aligned the screen with the digitizer and then i used small pieces of a special thin and trasparent tape to hold it in place. The tape holds the screen tight and it is barely visible, it also has the advantage that you can seperate the lcd and digitizer anytime you want with ease (though you have to be very delicate when applying it to get a good result)
I asked for a replacement of the defective lcd and i hope i will get a new one.
Hi
I've dropped my HD2. Everything is working, including touch screen, I can unlock the phone, I can answer the call, but screen is black, not broken.
What should I do? Does the lcd screen replacement will be sufficient? In that case, could the screen be ok, but some other display "processor" could be dead? I'm asking because I'll try to this on my own.
Could simply be the lcd cable has slipped slightly but probably more likely an LCD replacement needed.
You need remove rear housing & have a look & make a decision from your findings/testing.
hello
I've got a little update - lcd screen is working well - I mean it displays the image, the only malfunction is backlit. Right now when i use flashlign I can actually see whats on screen. Do you have experience or think that backlit connection can be repaired? Do You have any schematics for hd2' lcd ?
I suspect new LCD required by sounds of it. LCD can not be stripped for repair so after basic inspection of external connection replacement is only solution & not expensive due to falling cost of HD2 parts.
