Hi,
The touch screen of my HTC elf doesn't work anymore.
I am going to order some parts to change the digitizer myself and also the casing to make it look a little newer.
Anyway, I'd like to understand how the touch functionality works exactly. Is it a pressure on the digitizer itself that make a "touch" or is it a pressure on the digitizer that press the screen and this action make a "touch" ?
When I power my disassemble Elf, a pressure on the screen itself doesn't do anything....
I'd like to know if I need to order a screen as well
Hi,
just replaced my own elf's digitizer a month ago... and the phone is like new.
To answer your question it's the digitizer that reads pressure and sends the data to the system (if you already disassembled it you should have noticed a flat cable that connects the digitizer to the board).
So if the screen on your elf is working you should solve the problem by replacing only the digitizer.
You rock, I order now
Hello everybody!
I saw an auction with a Toch dual, "broken display". I thought to buy it, and switch the LCD with a new one. I paid the touch just 30$ (20 Euros).
But the situation was a bit different: the device is fall into the water (i see the pink marks on the device and the battery), the display was actually ok but has problem with the backlight.
The backlit was veeeery soft, didn't react if i tried to set it manually on higher levels, and was a bit stronger if i open the slide of the cell phone.
I thought, it could be a problem of humidity, and if i dismounted and dried the electronics, it would disappear, as it was with my xperia x1: felt into the water, some humidity inside was causing the backlight to flash and disappear, once dried everything got normally.
So I tried, but actually the situation now is even worse: the digitizer does not respond at all, and no changes in the light.
So my question is: can i just buy on ebay a new LCD + digitizer, and solve all the problems? I already changed a LCD without digitizer on a cell phone, and it worked. I don't know, how hard and risky can be to change also the digitizer, and also i cannot imagine how to fix the backlight problem, just suppose that with the new LCD it will work - it is integrated, isn't it?
Many many thanks for your help!!!
I replaced my digitizer recently and when I put the phone back together and turned it on, the LCD looked different any thoughts or suggestions. I looked through some other threads but nothing described look like the problem I am having.
I guess the digitizer isn't original and polarizes the light in a different way, giving the strange optical effect.
Another issue maybe the digitizer is stuck tightly against LCD, try to put between the two a strip of thick adhesive tape around the edges, avoiding tight contact.
Or worst, maybe you damaged the LCD while disassembling, to verify this lift the digitizer and see if it looks the same or not without digitizer.
It looks as though it is a similar problem to * HERE *
I you go into your Web-browser and press the menu button, then view page info.
Look at the background (the webpage). What are the colours like?
Hi guys,
What could be the possible reasons for a touchscreen and the capacitive buttons to stop working?
I purchased my Huawei U8800 only very recently but it was purchased 2nd hand. The phone came pre-installed with a custom rom, which is this one here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1481168
I've had very minimal use of it ever since I received it, due to the reason that I have exams as I'm an UNI student. Therefore, I haven't modified the phone in any way, i.e I have not overclocked it or flashed a different kernel or recovery etc. The only thing I've done is installed GO SMS PRO and used it for txting and calling, that's it.
At first, everything seems to work fine. But on my 2nd day of use, the touchscreen started acting weird, where the right hand side of the screen stops working for no reason, as well as the 2 capacitive buttons on the right half of the screen (HOME and SEARCH). Then after a while, the BACK capacitive button on the left half of the screen stopped working, and eventually all 4 capacitive buttons and the entire screen stopped working.
The phone still turns on, but the entire screen doesn't pick up any finger input and there isn't any haptic feedback or vibration from the capacitive buttons. When I boot into the recovery, this is also the same.
So I contacted the seller about this, and he advised me to flash the Cyanogenmod 7.2 rom to see if this fixes the problem. It didn't, the touchscreen still doesn't work.
I'm wondering if this is related to the digitizer, which is the part of the phone that sense your finger inputs? If not, what are the other parts of the phone that could relate to the capacitive buttons and touch screen?
Definately a digitizer problem. The capacitive buttons are part of the touch screen, the touch screen is extended over the bottom of the display.
You should buy a new one from eBay or similar. If you want to buy it with a frame (black part on the front), you will have to open your phone to see if the front speaker is big or small. There are two types of front speakers and they are not cross-compatible. If you just want to buy the digitizer, you will have to remove the old digitizer from it's frame and add some glue on the new one to make sure it won't stick out.
If you don't want to mess with your phone, I am sure there are paid services that will do it for you, since replacing the digitizer is fairly easy.

thanks for your reply mate!
Ok so I've found this one here:
http://www.ebay.com/itm/Original-To...Glass-For-Huawei-U8800-Ideos-X5-/170721993712
Since it says it's "original", I don't have to worry about the speaker problem right?

They are selling the digitizer, so there will be no problems as it's only the digitizer glass and not the frame around it. The frame itself is holding the digitizer and the speaker so that's why there may be issues when buying the front cover.
If you need a disassembly tutorial, check my Mediafire (signature) -> Documents -> U8800 Basic Maintenance Manual. It's the official disassembly guide so you can be sure you are doing it right .

Wait, that doesn't have the frame around it? I thought the black part surrounding the glass is the frame? I'm confused.......
I just want something that looks exactly like shown in that Ebay listing photo, where it has that bit of the connector part that you push into the motherboard (or whatever it's called on the phone).

On your listing, it does not have frame.
If it's without frame, it is simply the front glass with connector. If it is with the frame, it has the black curve too (and speaker with led).
See this:

Hope it makes sense now

Ahh ic ic.....so would I need to use glue to stick the digitizer glass onto the frame?

Yeah, but not much. Maybe you don't need to add any glue at all, the old one might hold it too.

hi blefish
just posted a similar question:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=39201328#post39201328
is it the same solution? (the 4 buttons at the bottom do not work as well as the lower half of screen)
my speaker is 15 mm by 5 mm long (i looked inside). is it big or small?
all the ebay posts do not mention a frame - i will be happy not to mess with the glue
thanks

Hi guys,
I did have the same problem with a Huawei G 510. Digitizer broken and replaced, but still not working.
I have no action on screen. It lits but i can't press any button. Either the 3 buttons are working.
Checked the plug, checked some voltage in the pins.
Any other ideas ?
Thanks in advance,
Miltos Matt
Hi
I've dropped my HD2. Everything is working, including touch screen, I can unlock the phone, I can answer the call, but screen is black, not broken.
What should I do? Does the lcd screen replacement will be sufficient? In that case, could the screen be ok, but some other display "processor" could be dead? I'm asking because I'll try to this on my own.
Could simply be the lcd cable has slipped slightly but probably more likely an LCD replacement needed.
You need remove rear housing & have a look & make a decision from your findings/testing.
hello
I've got a little update - lcd screen is working well - I mean it displays the image, the only malfunction is backlit. Right now when i use flashlign I can actually see whats on screen. Do you have experience or think that backlit connection can be repaired? Do You have any schematics for hd2' lcd ?
I suspect new LCD required by sounds of it. LCD can not be stripped for repair so after basic inspection of external connection replacement is only solution & not expensive due to falling cost of HD2 parts.
