Hi,
as the topic says I am selling my device and now I wonder how to remove all my personal stuff. I used UrukDroid 1.5 mainly.
i don't use urukdroid, but can you not reformat from the recovery menu and then flash your firmware? Alternatively, can you just do a full reinitialization from within Android?
The build-in "Reset to factory defaults" button does not seem to work in UrukDroid, thats the main problem. If I reflash UrukDroid, will it delete my old data or just keep it installind a new OS?
I would boot into recovery and choose format system. That will erase all data, applications and settings. Again, I don't have the sde or urukdroid installed, so not sure what effect that may have. You might check out http://forum.archosfans.com/viewforum.php?f=63 and ask your question there.

After I failed to root my phone, I managed to install stock OS 1.1 on it (flashing DREAIMG.NBH). I was advised to wait for an OTE update, which I did.
However, every time it does the OTA update, I get a hugely flawed, half working 1.6. Browser doesn't open, Maps doesn't open, call volume doesn't work etc etc. I think this is because it is trying to update from 1.0 to 1.6, when it would usually update from 1.5 to 1.6 (if there is another explanation, please correct me).
So I've re-flashed 1.0. I've downloaded manual update files for 1.5 and 1.6. In order to apply the 1.5 update, the instructions say I need to be running 1.1. Can anyone help me get to 1.1 so I can do this, or suggest a better way if there is one?
Thanks for any help - if I can't get it sorted this week I think I'll send it off to T-mobile, because my alarm doesn't even go off due to the phones OTA update prompt disabling the sound and it's messing up my work routine! BTW, all files will be RC_ as I am in England. Phone is not rooted.
Thanks
Just install 1.6. It is a complete system image and works just fine. You may need to wipe your data partition or at least run the fix permissions script. In the setup menu, search for an option that says something to the effect of "wipe to default". It will leave the current system image intact, but clear out ALL the user data.

Isn't the file for 1.6 only 14 mbs though? my one is. And it's also an update.zip file, so how would this work?
DRC83_base_defanged.zip
34.3mb
This should do the trick I believe, on top of the DREAIMG.NBH dont wait for ota update.
First CLEAR EVERYTHING use RA's Recovery image, wipe the ext partition, dalvik VM cache, and the data option what ever it is.
Next flash dreaimg.nbh, right after that's done DRC83 from there you can put any ROM you want (you can skip DRC83 with some ROMs Cyanogen requires it for example)

you did read that the phone is not rooted didn't you?
wipe of Ext is pointless, 1/ the phone is not rooted 2/ the 'stock' ROMs don't understand ext(2,3,4)fs so will not use them
tbh I don't know what is going wrong,
after Android 1.0 is installed ( DREAIMG.nbh ) then settings--> about phone --> software updates , should trigger the correct updates...
maybe a factory reset will help, start the phone holding the home key and follow instructions for data reset

I'd afraid I pretty much don't understand any of this Could you go through it in more detail?
EDIT: ah yes, not rooted.

There is no such directory on 1.0 it seems... I've flashed DREAIMG.nbh perhaps 5 times now; do you still think the data reset is worth a shot?
Thanks for the replies btw.
I was having some problem with my current rom and wanted to flash a new rom on my phone. I dont want to go through the process of installing all the apps from scratch.
Is there a way I can backup all the apps and once the rom has been installed I can just do a ONE CLICK install of all the apps?
Sorry for posting it again. I posted it at the wrong place before this.

dont know if this will help, but i'm new to flashing roms also and everytime i tried a new rom out i had to also download all my apps, and then media back to sd card, there is a video on youtube "must have app for g1/mytouch" by "EmoGamer" The "APP" is called "Backup for Root Users"
what i do, is open the "APP" check mark "APK'S"
choose backup.
I'm using MyTouch (32b)
Amon RA - v1.6.2G
Boot into Recovery (Home + Power)
Choose Wipe, "Data/Factory Reset, Dalvik-cache, SD:ext partition"
Press Back Once
Go To "Partition sdcard"
Choose "Repair SD:ext" (Home to confirm)
Then Flash your rom and reboot.
When you gain access to the "Market" Download the same "App (Backup for Root Users)
and then "Check Mark" everything that you did for the Back-Up & Hit Restore.
That's It!!!
BTW, depending on the speed of the ROM that you flashed and how much was back'd up it can take awhile, the last ROM i flashed did the recovery fast, but almost 30mins for all the apps to load into the "App Drawer" on home screen...
Sorry if this is so long, but hope it helps. I'm gonna check this part of the forums and see if there is anything about the Nandroid backup and i will be also posting something there to possibly help noobz like myself in restoring all from previous Nandroid back'd up ROM.
I can't seem to find a straight answer on this. Any other device I've had, the anser is no, it just wipes the system, and app folders, but leaves all user data intact. However every other device I've had has a partition called "SD card", the nexus 7 just has one place that stores everything called "internal storage". When I unlocked my bootloader it wiped everything where as on my HTC Flyer and HTC Vivid, it didn't touch the "SD Card" partition.
I just want to know because I'm on Paranoid android and I want to go back to stock and get the update for now and stay stock for a bit.
Anyone? Seriously windows is taking forever to "start" copying my stuff, i'd rather just skip this step
Yes, it will wipe all the data. Have you tried restarting tablet/pc to see if that'll help?
Is your tablet unlocked?
Than you could use custom recovery to back things up, I just went for fresh start and spent an hour re-downloading everything today.
It might be worth trying to switch the USB mode (click USB Mode in notifications) perhaps that might fix the problem.
The simple answer is yes.
Fake edit: Someone beat me to it. :silly:
That blows, this partitioning scheme sucks.
Hi guys.
I'm using Modaco's custom ROM and I want to change to the latest M version of Cyanogen. But the thing is I'm not sure if it's a good idea to dirty flash a very different ROM (even though they are both 4.2.1), and I would like to avoid having to backup my entire SD card to my computer to make a clean flash... Is there anyway I can avoid such a thing?
Best regards,
Bernardo Pinho
Nope.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The "factory reset" menu choice in the TWRP recovery preserves /data/media (your "fake" SD card), but wipes everything else in /data and all of /cache too.
I suppose that CWM has a similar menu item, but as I don't use that (yet), I can't vouch for that.
BTW the "format data" menu button on the same TWRP (wipe sub-menu) screen does exactly what you are trying to avoid - destroys all of /data. Be careful against accidental screen touches.
cheers
PS I strongly recommend backups anyway until you are completely familiar with the way things go with the recovery that you are using.

THANK YOUUUUUUUU just what I needed. Was using clockwork but flashed TWRP just to make sure I wouldn't flash /media, and it worked perfectly, thank you so much for sparing me all the trouble I would have to go through otherwise

I learned the hard way with TWRP. My prior Android device had a real external SD card.
You should make a complete 100 percent backup of what's in there and then experiment with whatever recovery you normally use so that you know what to expect from it's various menu items.
Note that when you choose any particular button in the TWRP wipe menu, (say "Factory Reset"), when it finishes, there is a "Done" button or something like that in the lower middle part of the screen. When you touch it, the menu returns immediately to the prior level... and your finger is hovering right over the "Wipe Data" button.
I'd wager a dollar that's going to bite somebody with a sensitive touch panel.
Just got a GTab 2 7.0 a few days ago. A P3113, so only 8GB of storage, about half of which is the ROM and crap apps. I've rooted before (had a KF 1st gen when it came out), and just wondering about a few things with the GTab:
Right now, I don't mind the stock ROM so much. There are problem things that would be "nice to have", but right now, would like to generally stay as "stock" as possible. That being said, I'd still like to "de-crap" the ROM to free up some storage space, and I assume that might lead to it running a bit better, since so much seems to just pop-in while running other apps. So:
I know I need to root first, so my first question - how reliable is that? I'm on a Mac, but have access to a netbook running Win7, so could run Odin to "get things done". I'd hate to brick the thing, still having 51 weeks of warranty left. (I also understand that I might want to install something else to keep the flash count from showing it's been flashed).
Once root'ed, is it better to use one of the "de-crapped" ROMs floating around? And if so, which seems "best" (yeah, I know the moderators hate the "which is best" - I'm looking for stock - and STABLE)
Or, is it better to eliminate the apps myself? (Not sure if this is a wholesale "rm" to remove certain apps from a terminal app, using adb, or if they have some uninstallers embedded somewhere, or...) - so better to use one of the ROMs floating around?
Is the GTab 2 "stable", so even if you trash a ROM, you can still get into the ROM manager to restore a previously working, or stock, ROM?
I'll probably come up with a couple more questions, especially depending on the replies... TIA
Hi..
I can answer some of your questions. I hope that helps!
1- Rooting is easy and reliable. you may use "CF-Auto-Root" tool (search for it in XDA forum).
But you need to remember that rooting and custom ROMs void your warranty.
2- If you just need to free some storage space, you may use an app such as "Clean Master" to uninstall system apps and get rid of temp and junk files.
3- If you opt to use a custom ROM make sure it is very well supported and maintained.

Thanks - but prior to using Clean Master I assume I better either get a stock image to reload, or use CWM so I can make a backup of the ROM before messing something up?

Taking a backup is always good thing to do. I suggest you try clean master to know how it works and what does it do.

Thanks - I plan to use Clean Master. Allows me to be selective about what I remove/move, instead of getting a ROM from someone and they removed the ONE THING I really wanted.
Ok, got it rooted and CWM installed.
HOWEVER, when I boot into CWM, I DON'T see an option to backup my ROM (I've used TWRP before on my KF, so the menu is different).
What I've got on my screen in CWM:
Android system recover <3e>
Volume up/down to move highlight;
power button to select.
reboot system now
apply update from ADB
apply update from external storage
wipe data/factory reset
wipe cache partition
apply update from cache
That's it. Where's the option to do a ROM backup? Oh, used file P3113_SAMSUNG_RECOVERY_SUPERSU-0.96_BUSYBOX-1.20.2.tar.md5.zip Had CWM and Root all in one. I do have GT-P3113_ClockworkMod-Recovery_6.0.1.0.tar as well. Should I just go through procedure again to flash this CWM? Will it still retain SU?
nandroid backup ok to use? Seems it's just a wrapper for a backup script...
Ok - I'll reply to myself.
I don't know what was wrong with the CWM I installed via the aforementioned file (P3113_SAMSUNG_RECOVERY_SUPERSU-0.96_BUSYBOX-1.20.2.tar.md5.zip), but I went to the CWM site, D/L'ed the latest touch enabled CWM for the P3113 (6.0.2.3, I believe), and installed it over the existing recovery image on the device (I had to create my own .tar.md5 - easy with *nix).
Anyway, I now have access to the backup options by scrolling down. The image from P3113_SAMSUNG_RECOVERY_SUPERSU-0.96_BUSYBOX-1.20.2.tar.md5.zip, simply wouldn't scroll beyond what I listed earlier. Now can scroll down, make backups, etc.
Haven't tried yet to re-install the image I made with nandroid - I'm a bit leery of that - so I'll just get the stock 4.1.1 ROM from sammobile, and keep it around....

That's exactly what I did today, grabbed the stock image for a backup, rooted with Odin and CWM then flashed a CM based 4.3 ROM. Piece of cake.
