Should I buy this phone? - Galaxy S II General

I really want a white galaxy s2 this Christmas. Loved everything about it. There is just a thing that's bugging me. Its about the burn in issue. Im planning to use this phone for 2-3 years and Im very OC when it comes to gadgets.
1. Does burn in happen in all galaxy s2 phones?
2. Can you remove it by putting a plain white background for a while?
3. Will samsung accept it for replacement when it start to appear after a few months?
4. Will I have it even if I change the way icons appear every time?

All high end Samsung phones have 1/2yr warranty.
Just to let you know. Have you seen the galaxy S II white in person? I own a black one and my sister's friend just got hers a week ago. I have to say it isn't the same quality of premium white they used on the Galaxy S (official name - ceramic white).
It looks tackier and a little cheap IMO. I'd get be black unless you've seen it in real life and satisfied with it. I loves the ceramic white used in the Original galaxy s. A shame really....

I havent seen it in person but i saw it in youtube and it looks quite good.
What will the screen look life if the whole screen is burnt in?

I own a white galaxy s2. All I can say is perfect. I only buy when this available in white.

Can you guys post pics of those who have white gs2's ? :d

All the people who owned a SGSII will surely recommend u to buy this phone(except some unknown Iphone lover maybe not). By replacement u mean hardware or 1 to 1 exchange? Samsung will probably fix your phone's problem but they wont give u 1 to 1 exchange after 7 days.

I just did the LCD test on my SGS 2 and to my surprise there is no burn in at all (Tried red, green and blue). Even if I turn the brightnes up to the max setting. It can still burn my retinas out though
I got it in early June (It's the european original I9100) and I had a white clock in my statusbar all the time.
What surprises me here is that I had temporary burn ins on my old SGS 1 (I9000). They would go away after a few minutes, in one of the LCD test colors. As if the display had memory. Theres none of that with my SGS 2.
I don't know if Samsung revised the display later, but mine def. doesn't have a burn-in issue.
And regarding the rest of the phone, I absolutely love it.

No burn in issue ive heard of you can use this phone for 5+ years it has cheap replacment batteries and everything. The only display flaw is maybe a slight blueish tint to true whites not even really noticable buy this phone!!

The organic materials used in AMOLED displays are prone to degradation, and blue color is the worst one.
so for your question, yes, it will burn in, and just depends on how you use it, you may see burn in more quickly, or may be not for 1~2years..
and it is hard to remove the burn in once it is there.
if I remember correctly, the best blue color material have about 5years lifetime, but dunno what is used in the S2, so it may be an old material which just have 2~3 years lifetime
p.s. Actually Burn in happens in Plasma and CRT too, just you may not notice it

Does it get worse?

I'm an avid gamer (dungeon defenders, shadowgun, modern combat) and I can't tell the difference even after the amount of heat this thing has produced.

No Don't
Bought sgs 2,
-dead pixel - Send for warranty claim.
-could not boot up - send for warranty claim, they changed motherboard.
-camera freeze at least once a week.
-playing game too long freezes the phone.
Either the phone did not go through proper QC or they been using shoody parts.

I'd say go and get it, i haven't faced any of the issues you mentioned.
I'll add: get this phone ONLY if you have a dedicated mp3 player, audio quality on this thing sucks big time. You can always get this phone and a Sansa Clip as a player, cheap like hell and very premium sound. Personally i got a Cowon C2 (105€) because i needed more punch in terms of battery life and better equalization, but the Sansa costs like a pair of mid to low end earbuds (30-50€) and sounds better than an iPhone4s (by a mile), biggest bang for the buck ever...you can even load Rockbox on that sucker and it will own even more.

Returned my Nexus S

Returned my unlocked Nexus S, connectivity is the biggest issue with it then screen response and freezing.
I compromised on the desireble specs to buy Nexus S only coz Google put their stamp on it. I seriously dont understand why Google will pick Samsung (is it the super AMOLED display or something else). HTC has far better workmanship n service compared to Samsung -they r in such a rush to inundate the market with phones that their is no quality control or post sales service.
Ley me put it this way I'm never gonna buy Samsung phone again. Bought 3 of their flagship best phones in last 3 years n let down all 3 times
1. Samsung Omnia when it came out from Europe $ 600
2. Samsung i8910 (first with Amloed Display) again form europe for $700
3. Nexus S $571
I've used samrtphone for last 12 year from Palm 180 to everything, and i would say Samsung are the worst.

Opinions are like assholes...

Seriously tho does anyone even give a damn about these "I h8 NS!" threads besides the trolls?
Samsung is doing a fine job manuacturing their phones, I'm glad I don't have to deal with TouchPiss anymore.
Google probably went with Samsung over HTC because:
- They use the Hummingbird processor, HTC doesn't.
- They're the only ones with Super AMOLED technology.
- HTC is getting their pants sued off by Apple.
- Google is trying to diversify.
- Contractual/agreement issues, who knows.
- Maybe HTC didn't want to parter again in the first place.
i am glad Google went with Samsung this time. People who own Nexus One know that the touchpad that HTC used was a ****ing fiasco. Also, this is my biggest pet peeve virtually on all HTC phones they use the crappiest quality speakers.
Sounds like the OP needs to look up the definition of "insanity" with regards to his repeated purchases of Samsung products.

I'll have to say the speaker quality on this Samsung is far better than the one on my G1. The touch screen is much more responsive than on the G1 and registers better. Of course it is a million times faster than the G1. Also, I don't need to root and modify the hell out of just to make it work remotely close to other phones.
I am impressed do far.
Only complaints, no LED notifications (knew this going in), and my wireless signal is weaker on this phone than it was on my G1 or any other wireless device in my house. Not sure what's up with that. Also, that it doesn't take advantage of T-Mobiles HSPA+. I knew this as well going in.
I don't do much mobile browsing anyway, but do like to show of videos with friends and that can be a downside. Though T-Mobile is as much to blame as a manufacturer not supporting it (read T-Mobile just sucks sometimes).
Good for you that you returned your Nexus S. Thanks for sharing. Now move on to a different forum. Or do you require some counseling for your loss?
I went from rooting the Nook color, got hooked on Android, and then bought the Nexus S. I couldn't be happier. Pure Google! Customize! No cell carrier branding! 2.3! Oh no, they have a quad core with a kitchen sink plug in, I must return my Nexus S!
Take care all. Looking forward to all the mods and roms.
Perhaps somebody should start a "I'm not returning my Nexus S, I'm perfectly happy with it" thread....

Wouldn't it be more helpful if, in the middle of your rant, you explained WHY you thought that the Nexus S let you down?

I have to agree. The ONLY thing I don't like about my Nexus S is that I'll have to put a screen protector on it because it doesn't have Gorilla Glass.
I wish they'd saved whatever cash they spent creating curved glass and just used Gorilla Glass instead.
I have Nexus S as well as Desire HD and I can tell you signal strength is far better on the Nexus S. HTC have shocking antenna problems on every Android. Still love the HD but the Nexus poops all over it.

Samsung quality control and assistance

Hi to all,
I want to share with You just a quick reflection on Samsung quality control and assistance.
In my company I have 3 Sgs, 5 Sgs II, A Galaxy Tab 7 and a Galaxy Note.
Sadly, every single product have some defect.
Speaking particularly for the screens, the first sgs have all some annoying burn in effect, one have even the flickering screen because of the interference to the screen caused by wifi/data mobile module on the screen itself, the Sgs II are note better, ever single screen has different temperature and two are completely yellow and less sharp then the others making reading nearly impossiblenot to mentio here too burn in effect visible on dark background and at the end the Galaxy Note shows no true black, bad gamma calibration, black clipping on videos...
So if the amoled, superamoled, superamoled plus tecnology is so immature why they continue to market it and when you go to a reparation center they say that they don't see any problem with the screen refusing to make the reparation or the substitution of the screen?
I wrote a lot of letter and email to Samsung asking for reparation but only 1 time they recognized the fault on the screen and replaced it.
I bought my Note 2 month ago and when I realised that the screen was ****ty I went to the shop where I bought it asking for a replacement and they said to me that the screen was perfect so since they never see any fault on my products they never repair or replace them in warranty.
Not to make a comparison but I have also, 2 Iphone 4s and 2 Iphone 4, Ipad, Ipad 2, Imac, Macbook Pro and MAcbook Air and when I had a problem with these products I had always received a good customer assitance.
Home button become unresponsive in Iphone 4: they replace it in warranty, Screen of Ipad II and Macbook Pro present light bleading of the Lcd pannel: they replaced 4!!!times in warranty until it was perfect.
Macbook air's keyboard become creapy, the replace it in warranty.
Im not an Apple fanboy and I hate their closed os politic but I hacve to admit that when I faced a problem they were there to help me.
Samung leftme alone.
Their repair centres are ridicolous, operator of the phone assistance unprepared and they never answer to questions...only standard replies.
It seems to me to talk to anyone.
I love Android world, custom roms, kernel, overclocking, undervolting, cm, miui atc etc... but producers of the phones and tablets do not match.
Bad assistance, slow updates and products that without xda guys comes to market with a lot of bugs and problems
Sorry for the outburst, I just want to inform many who are in my conditions that they are not alone and that we all should complain with Samsung for its scandalous post assitance service and quality control of the products.
Sorry for my bad English,
Just my 2 cents
+1. I read about this too. This is the risk I knew when I bought my second Samsung phone. Maybe try selling your current Note?
Sent from my GT-N7000 using Tapatalk
I really tought about it but I spent 700 euros and now I don't wanna sell it for around 500 .
I love Android but all the manufactorers seems to do less quality control then Aplle sigh sigh.
It's not only Samsung....
I have a Transformer and it has light bleeding and some dead pixels... Htc desire dust under screen and back button doesn't work anymore, htc deisre Hd has a small crack between the two part of the backplace, htc Sensation the speaker doesn't work anymore...
Maybe I'm just not lucky with Android phones....
I'm ok with all these problems but when you go claiming for warranty they should not make a lot of problems like "this is not properly a defect of the device"
Anyone knows how to contact someone in Samsung to send them directly the phone?
I have suspected and raised this issues before here too. However, the idea totally got smashed by most of the members here

Note 2 to have unbreakable screen in October!!!

http://news.mk.co.kr/english/newsRead.php?rss=Y&sc=30800011&year=2012&no=360619
The next Note will have an even larger screen with flexible AMOLED, which is unbreakable! Sounds amazing if true! I want one!
I hope this is true but will put me in a dilemma as I was thinking of getting the note 10.1!
I will get Note 10.1! ..if they will ever release it
If it only was true.....
The note 1 is supposed to have gorilla glass, scratch proof etc. etc. How many have already their screen scratched ?? Battery life improvement with a bigger lcd ?? If we don't use our devices they will last at least a week, that's true !!
I never had the expected battery life they anounced using the phone normally, in fact the ics update made things worse... What's the point of anouncing things that aren't (yet) possible ??
After the latest problem with the update (that they already knew from earlier devices, nexus for example) they still insist in errors from tha past that shouldn't even be possible....... Well i really like my note i just don't like samsung. If they don't solve the problems with the first note before launching the second one .......... But it's all to be in the race with apple...
I'm starting to think i should have bought a zte or an lg.......

I will not flash a rom untill the bug is solved. Yes i will miss my note if it bricks since the average repair time seems to be 2-3 weeks and still will come with the same problem.

I bought mine on last sunday, i say i wont replace it for years! It's the best phone i ever had... and dude... i had lots! I was addicted to apple products, then i bought galaxy nexus 2 months ago and now i have the note. Its awesome...
Got my note upon first release in November, I love it dearly, but I want to move on. I think I want something bigger.... I'm waiting to hear about the Nexus Tablet... hopefully that thing is all I expect it be be, and I will use that as my phone

Yep, if it wasn't for insurance...... Can't find a screen protector with the right size for it
What I love is the fact that people equate flexible to unbreakable.
I bet if you sit on a flexible screen the wrong way so as to fold it it would break. Reminds me of all the talk when CD's first came out, they said they were unbreakable, my car and the sun proved them wrong in the first week of owning one.
I will be happy if they have a flexible display as I wont be tempted to upgrade.
But like I posted elsewhere I cannot see it happening. What makes the Note unique (besides its size) is its S-pen, as the s-pen requires sensors behind the screen to detect the button presses I can not see how they would incorporate that is a flexible screen.
But I may be wrong
From how I read it the only reason they are using the flexible screen tech is because its much thinner, this will either allow a thinner device then the current note or keep the dimensions giving room for a larger battery. That mockup prototype has nothing to do with the note 2 and I cant ever see a phone design like that. If you put any decent force on it in that folded position the thing would break unless it was made of rubber.
I dont expect it to actually have a flexible screen unless its some type of flip foldout multiscreen design which I doubt it will have, this would make it a true phone tab hybrid if its in the note form factor but could extend out to a tablet. This will probably be the note 3 that does this I wouod think and not something out in october.
Note 2 will likely have a 5.5-5.7 inch screen hopefuly around 1080p with a 3000mah battery or slightly larger if possible. The physical size wont be much larger then the current note but heavier due to the larger battery as larger capacity equals more weight. Being a note it will have a stylus for sure and the phone going by this release will have the same quad as the gs3 maybe slighlty higher clocked, not the faster arm v15 duel core.

guys i dont want an unbreakable screen and stuff....i just want sammy to not foolishly waste the marvels they create!!example: the note:its by far THE BEST phone ive ever used...screen unbelievable: the day i bought it, another guy was buying the s3 and i didnt even feel bad, my phone was looking way better than his..
but i say waste their marvels coz: that ungodly black crush issue. heck almost every note had it in that store and moreover their dealers denied it, saying it was absent when all you had to do was open the calculator app and see the ugly banding right there..they refused to accept and said it was 'the design'..
and photos taken in the dark have this issue too...
other than this this phone ROCKS!!!!! I mean the size is just coooool..never slows down under any kind of multitasking, never heats up, battery is superb..
just wish for note 2, they COMPLETELY get rid of this issue!!! note rocks!!
my note2 = note - black crush + stable ics !!!! ( dont get better than that!!!)
I will never waste more money on another updated note...its never worth it lol this note is perfeft size. Any bigger would be stupid but tk each their own. I got my note sim free so i paid a gud amount for it. I wont be sucked in with tiny updates and 12 mp camera, just another stunt to make folks spend more money.

I'd love a slightly larger screen. It'll likely be 5'5"...but anything short of 6" would be fine with me.

Want to get the N7 worried about screen

I will be getting the N7 this weekend and i have been reading about the screen issues such as screen lifting and touch response then there is the lag issue when you are low on space. I have been reading about different models like C7O, C8O and C9O, what is also this about?
What should i look out for? Why do people want the C9O devices?
all of the models are the same .. its been confirmed the only difference is in the newer model where they are not putting all of the screws in the back on the left side. This will cause issues later on with the bezel being plastic it in my opinion will warp and cause even more screen distress .
If you do get a nexus . get it from a brick and mortar store and by all means A EXTENDED damage warranty is a must. If you get it from the play store and you want a refund .Well its likely to take 2-3 months . I myself do not make the same mistake 3 times. Im waiting over a moth for the refund on second device i bought still no word . the first one i have all but given up on getting my money back on it.. one says refunded on google wallet . for o5 days now.. I am not the only one who feels this way about the device.
you have good reason to Worry..
to bad samsung did not make this.
Well I'm in Canada and will be picking one up from Best Buy so other then a extended warranty nothing to look out for? Like there is no models that do not have this issue?
Well bro I also searched whole lot market and have seen c70 as well c80 but not c90 and they are all have screen lifting issue as far I have seen maybe there are out which aren't having the issue but majority have this issue... so skip this part and believe it doesn't have to do anything with device I mean the screen lifting is fine no thing is to worry about it else I hadn't have issue of touch response nor of pixel dead but screen is still elevated from left side... so stay calm and buy Nexus 7 ...

I would take that post with a grain of salt. I've owned 6 different tablets and I think this screen is GORGEOUS. Let's not forget, this tab is $200-$249 depending on storage. This offers BY FAR the most bang for your buck. Not too mention its a Google device so updates galore and dev support to the max is guaranteed. I can't think of one reason not to buy it, I have a c80 running fauxs kernel and codename ROM. This is the BEST device I've ever owned and I've gone through a new android phone/tablet every 2 months since the g1. Good luck with your device, and to answer your question, look for the c80. Simple answer......if you're worried about it.....don't get it.
I read about all the screen issue's, build quality, etc..... I bought a Galaxy Tab 2 instead. Well the Tab 2 wifi was not able to stream Netflix or HBO Go in the bedroom, two so I Took it back.
I then got a Tab Plus, and which works great, but I really wanted to see what the N7 could do, and so I bought one from Walmart, and and I love it. Zero issues.

Dam this is one SOLID phone

Me and my i9000 parted 2 years ago, I got a brand new hTC Raider (S3 now) and gave the trusty i9000 to my sister. At times I would see it on the table when she came over and i would hold it, touch it's AMOLED screen and remember the good times we had. I have seen it get mishandled, dropped, and kicked, and all sorts of other things only a 3 year old would do. My 3 year old nephew and i think he loved it more then i did but never appreciated like i did.
It was time for my sister to part ways and so I upgraded her to a GNex and got the i9000 back so i can flash it and give it to someone else to use. It came back all covered with smudges and and sticky fingers, the aluminium around the sides coming off and I was a bit disappointed how badly it was used, but what are you gonna do with a 3 year old. I was hopping for the worst and thought if my S3 has a few hairline scratches and I take very good care of my phone (goes in the left pocket with nothing else and no one is allowed to touch it), then surely this phone will be scratched to bits being all bare.
After cleaning the screen and inspecting the glass, to my surprise it actually has no visible scratches, it has some hairline ones but you really have to look for them.
Battery still holds a charge, speaker and ear peace still work, I'm actually really surprised how well this phone is built and i mean REALLY surprised, Just going to take the aluminum finish off the housing and it will look new again. Also the development for this phone is still strong, like WOW.
I was gong to sell it but now i may keep this as a backup phone.
Cuddle it the right way and the I9000 will still give you head several times each day, 3 years after its coming of age.

The Samsung Galaxy S i9000 is pretty much bulletproof. A very well made phone, that is still going strong for many.
And considering how old is it already, it is a really big step for Samsung 3 years ago, as its hardware lets you use video on Skype without any problems, it works smooth, it is fast, it is resistant and so on.. Its a really good device.

Agreed, mine has been all over the world to include Iraq and Afghanistan and the Horn of Africa and takes some serious abuse but still going strong !!
that's what i mean, it's built solid and i can see it lasting another 3 years if not more.
Nothing is to stop it from doing so, so long as the battery is swapped and it's not OCed to much...
Keep up with and run latest android releases is quite another thing though.

I love my phone, the otter box is starting to fall apart now after two years of abuse, cracks and missing pieces in the hard shell. It's initial save for me was I used it to break my fall going over some handle bars of a bicycle I own, to my amazement afterwards the phone and otter box didn't have any damage from the harsh impact to the pavement. It's been sturdy, never a problem with root or flashing any rom/kernel.
Battery life is great and so is performance. I'll agree on one solid phone.

And still popular.
15% of my December app sales are on GT-I9000. Second only to GT-I9100 at 22%.
And this despite the unfortunate speaker risk issue with the app on I9000.
The WM8994 audio chip is pretty much as good as the similar WM1811 chip in the GT-I9300 and GT-N7100.
IMO, the I9000 is pretty much responsible for starting the major Android success of Samsung, and each subsequent generation: GS2, GS3 just grows & cements that.
My similar era/power Desire HD and Z seem to be showing their age with the lastest JB ROMs more than the I9000, both physically and in terms of my perception of UI latency.
3 year old "Ferrari" is still "Ferrari"

The battery life is kinda bad, phone just sitting idle with nothing on it and down to 54% after 12 hours of not doing anything with just wifi on. If i enable gps phone does not last more then 13 hours just sitting idle.
I remember when i used to use it I could get almost a full day with moderate usage. Not complaining but I think i may need to get me a new battery.
Your battery is either dead or your phone is being kept awake by something. Since you say you have Wi-Fi running I'm going to guess you have a messenger app or something with Wi-Fi lock enabled...

Me too
I dropped my phone about 15 times while i was running outside. the display has some scratched, the aluminium housing is damaged as well. But! its still working I guess the sgs3 would have died every single time.
I totally agreed, I threw the phone to concrete tens of times during the 2.5 years I have had it. Perfect conditions till.
