I've wiped and installed a handful of different ROMs to no avail. Any time I download and install a 3D or 3Dish game (even ShootU), it's choppy. I saw a video of a G1 running Raging Thunder and it was smoother than my mytouch.
What gives? It's pretty annoying.
Running Stokes 1.3 Eclair ROM.
do you use swap? tried superD ROM? hell even cyanogen isn't bad.
my mytouch is choppy in general. like its laggy. not as fast as an iphone (even thought i hate iphones, i have to say that.) but as for games, nah. games that are choppy for me are online games because of the occasional lag, other than thats, mines pretty good.
Yeah, I have Super D's 1.9.2 Rom on after a wipe, and I even formatted my sdcard. I'm running ra amons recovery as well.
The game in particular is ShootU. I installed Raging Thunder and it runs great now...but I'm curious as to why this other game is so choppy.
I was in a TMo store yesterday, took their display mt3g and installed ShootU on it, and it played completely smooth.
Just sort of at a loss. Haven't tried any other games really, and it's not like this is a make-or-break deal for me. Just bugs me a lot.

Super D uses the 10 mb RAM hack and that takes the extra 10 mb of ram from the 3d gaming part of the phone so 3d games will be choppy. If you don't want the 10 mb ram hack or want a choice between hack or not go to cyanogen.
At this moment im playing with a nexus one (tmobil). I have a evo 4g with sense and bugless beast rom. The rom made my phone snappier and i have not use a task killer or rebooted it since i installed the rom. This rom (i have not try other roms yet) is still has fast as day one when it was install. Playing with the nexus one and the stock 2. 1 rom is actually choppier than mt evo. Scrolling and on the web. This is my sister phone and rhe only app she has install is app killer and some games. I did a reboot to see if would make a different and still choppier than my evo. I played on both raging thunder 2. And both ran about the same with similar fps. The onlt different is the nexua screen look alive with more vibrant color.
I believe that with a custom rom the nexus is faster but the nexus has been out for a long time already. In my opinion, the evo 4g will be just has good. Give it a few month cause this is only thebbeginning for the phone.
I flashed 2.3 GB about 2 weeks ago, and noticed it wasn't as snappy as I thought. It got to the point when I got too many FC's and lockups, when I decided to go back to Darch's 2.2 Froyo Rom. All I can say is I feel like I got a new phone, by.... downgrading to froyo(?) My question is, why did 2.3 run like a slideshow for me vs. 2.2 which runs nearly as smooth as my brother's LG Optimus? I want 2.3 to run faster than Darch's 2.2 rom, and expected it to do so, but it is completely backwards. Has anyone else incurred this problem?
Also, as far as game playability, I was expecting a slight performance boost from 2.2. to 2.3, but games like Mx Moto Mayhem ran like a slideshow on GB, and once I reverted back to 2.2, it ran perfectly fine.
I am just baffled and disappointed out of the performance I have gotten out of GB so far. I have tried changing the VM heap size, JIT on/off (and on a side note, 2.2 is running good without JIT enabled), and nothing seemed to help. What needs to be done to get GB running faster than Froyo?
Just to try to remove as many variable as possible, Ill let you know that this is based off of "stock" cpu speeds to the respective roms (stock meaning I didn't touch the OC speeds). Also, when I installed GB, I followed the exact instructions he gave, and the installation itself went smoothly. The only thing extra I flashed to BOTH roms is GAPPS.
If anyone has input, please let me know! Thanks
Might have something to do with the 3 or 4 month headstart froyo roms have over gingerbread.

CM7 runs smoother/faster than CM6 ever has for me. Dunno what to tell you.
If you remember, when CM6 WAS released the early builds weren't nearly close to what they are know. I think devs just want us to taste Gingerbread, while they are working to make the roms more stable. If you stay on froyo and come back to CM7 in 3 months you will notice the difference.

Will you post a link to which Darch Rom you are running? I am looking for the best 2.2 Rom right now...thanks.
I used this one

Which is the fastest rom I have used; you might want to get other people's opinion as well.
Can you contrast and compare?
Too soon?
Midnote seems to have everything working from the getgo...fullroot...all features. Just stuck at 1200 speed.
Don't know about the others.
I'll be flashing the chainfire repack this weekend...
Hahahaha was just about to post the same question. Would love cm9 as I had that on my sgs2

LAGGY LAG!
I would be pretty much interested in the following: What is your guys experience with the well known lag of the note? After several weeks using a rom the note gets pretty laggy after standby sessions...evertime I unlock my note I have to wait a few seconds, until an app starts. This happened to me with stock & several RocketRoms & Kernels and I found many people sharing these experiences.
Will this change with ICS?

I've been using Chainfire's repack for a couple days and it's sped everything up immensely. There's still the dead minor stutter with scrolling in some apps, but all in all it's definitely a huge change.
I'll probably flash Rocket's 1.5 now that the SMemo is working and has the stock ICS messaging app, but is devoid of most of the bloat.
Gonna see if HW acceleration still brings everything up to snuff with a deodex'd rom, too.
Thanks DarkShot666! You´ve mentioned the stock messaging app, one more question in this context: I haven´t read anything about the calendar...are we able to use the stock cal as well or am I still bound to the S-Planner (which I kind of dislike in comparison to the beautiful ICS one )? I didn´t give the memo integration in the calendar one single shot, don´t need it (yet)...
I've been using ICS since the chinese leak came out. First I used that and then, when Team Rocket ROM came out, I switched to that and have been using it since.
I also have used ICS CM9 alpha by maui for about a week as a daily driver.
All in all, there is a serious speed boost and everything looks nicer (IMO), yet there are also still bugs. The most notable for me is lack of "use wireless networks" setting for GPS location. At the moment the only GPS app I use is Foursquare (since my car is in service now, so no navigation for a while), and I have troubles locking on to GPS. It takes forever (meaning it takes minutes) and sometimes doesn't lock at all. This is in contrast to CM9 alpha I tried before, which would give me a quite good location in a few seconds.
The calendar is ICS stock, I think.. At least it looks like that.
What I don't really like is that there is no stock "contacts" and "dialer". It's a personal preference, of course, but I really like the ICS original apps, especially contacts and phone, which give you hi-res full-screen pic of the person calling. This one doesn't.
All in all, if I compare GB on Note to ICS on Note, ICS is definitely faster, smoother and generally way better. You have to suffer a few bugs and a few Force Closes here and there, at least for now..
If I compare the new leaked ROM and custom ROMs based on that with the CM9 build by maui, I must say that CM9 definitely would win if it didn't have the current major problems like camera not working and a bit more FCs than on leaked one. CM9 alpha seemed smoother and cleaner, it also had stock AOSP ICS apps and for the GPS issue - CM9 locked on almost instantly (2-10 sec, even indoors), way faster than any ROM on GB I tried, it also seemed to have a bit smoother animations and effects. One notable example would be when pinch-zoom-out is used in browser. If you watch a demo/review of proper ICS (for example, Galaxy Nexus) where you can see pinch-zooming in browser, when you zoom out, the previous full screen stays visible as a block, yet the new zoomed-out portion is not yet visible. When releasing fingers, the non-visible area fades smoothly to readable text. (hard to describe, so just watch a video if you don't understand what I mean). In CM9 Note does this, but in the new leak it doesn't fade - the area just suddenly appears.
To sum it up, I'm not going back to GB anymore, using Team Rocket ROM now but waiting eagerly for a new release of CM9 by maui.
try the leaked rom ,, its fine and working good and smoth
I've tried Chainfire repack and Midnote. I prefer Midnote - it solved a few things like apps update on every reboot, notification bar prompting for updates and the fingerprint changed to N7000 instead of I9220.
Midnote is the choice! Definitely!
Gona start flashing soon! But im gonna wait for a few weeks for a stable ics rom

midnote 2.0 running for two days. no issue at all.even some games are working that was not working on gb rom.
MidNote definitely. I tried RR 1.4, 1.5 & Midnote and Midnote was smoother by a mile. Stuff just works too. GPS, Bluetooth, Camera, Videorecorder, Market, Dialer, etc. I did make a bunch of mods, removing apps, adding others e.g. video player (instead of second gallery) Titanium backup also works awesomely.
BTW anyone thinking about coming from GB to ICS DO NOT USE CWM TO FLASH AN ICS ROM OR KERNEL. You must use Mobile Odin or PC Odin (careful of PC version it will raise your binary counter & give you triangle) or else you will not obtain complete root, and it will be a headache and a half to reflash backwards then forwards again.
If you haven't tried it yet here's a video I recorded yesterday showing how smooth Midnote is:

Can you give an example of this? Do you mean games that previously couldn't be installed can now be installed?
Thought I'd update.
I haven't tried MidNote so I can't compare but I've been running RR 1.5 and it's fantastic.
Buttery smooth and everything works as intended. Using ADW EX has never been more enjoyable. Used Titanium to remove a lot that I didn't need as well as restore everything and it works without a hitch. I've had solid performance on Wifi too. Bluetooth does seem a touch fickle but that too could be attributed to a low battery on my MBW-150.
The only issues I've had thus far would be that you can't set a wallpaper with forced HW acceleration on and the resolution is reduced when setting the lockscreen wallpaper for some odd reason. Nothing overly major though.
I might try MidNote if I'm really in the mood, but for now I'm pleased with how it's all set up.
I have been using the imilka's TOM and so far I haven't had any big problems. Of course there are some major and minor bugs to be fixed but the de is working really fast on this rom.

yup i would have to agree with him. this rom is by far the closest we can get to cm9 or stock ics. it does have minor bugs such as usb file transfer and video player, and few extras, but everything else works flawlessly. camera works, all other apps work, faceunlock, etc, very fast and smooth. he has even made a flashable zip that can transform the note into an actual tablet form. he had some bugs in version 1, but he fixed them in version 2 (and i must say, the developer is really fast). although there are fc bugs in tablet form, but i'm sure he's going to fix them in the next day or two.
i tried cm9 for couple of days, but the lack of camera, usb mount, and some others took me off it.
before imilka's rom, i was on romow v1 ics. it worked pretty well. but as its not really full clean aosp ics, i couldn't deal with it. although it is pretty much ics themed, except the dialer, messaging, and contacts. but it is smooth and stable nonetheless. faceunlock works, which is really cool.
all other roms (midnote, rocket, etc) i can't deal with. the themes are all kinda "in your face" and i hate that. not really sure about the smoothness and stability on those so can't really comment on that as i havent flashing them really. (maybe once or twice to see how it is, but quickly restored to original rom)
by the way, i hope the devs don't take offense. a little criticism never hurts, and opinions matter

I used redpill recovery to install midnote - worked great, and I didn't have to mess about with odin.
The step by step instructions in the midnote thread were brilliant.
midnote 2.0 for me is smooth and fast for me, fix some of issue that repack has, weird that they are some minor force close at first few boots after flash, then they are gone later. although fixed at 1.2ghz, it definitely smoother than GB clocked at 1.6ghz... havent tried rocket rom yet, but midnote 2.0 is great for me
I am i right in thinking that these ICS roms use generic graphic libraries etc etc thus dont take full advantage of the performance of the phone?
So a gingerbread rom like nottachatrix will actually perform better, i know ICS has a different kernel and under the hood changes.
cheers
incorrect.

way better than GB bro
I am using Kanged CM9 Alpha , and it is very smooth on my Atrix. Problems are camcorder is not working and HDMI out is choppy, but I rarely use these functions so it's ok for me

video playback (HW decoding) and flash player are what's holding me back.
On the rom that you tried, have you tried those functions?
Honestly, if I didn't have a lapdock I would be using jokesax build as my daily driver. It does everything I need it to do smoothly. Only problem is when you plug it in the lapdock, it's just an android tablet with no touch screen. Using that trackpad as your finger is not fun. Otherwise, the CM9 stuff is great.
Okay so the tegra drivers for ICS are present in the CM9 roms or is it some bespoke driver?
H/W decoding and camcorder are what keep me away from the ICS roms atm.
Thanks
Any custom can be good!
Correct me if Im wrong but as far as I can tell the big differences between ICS and GB are seen in stock roms.
And Custom Rom is USUALLY zipaligned, deodexed, converted to ext4.
Sometimes Developers (like notorious) build awesome mix of both, and put in they're own unique tweeks. Notorious's Neutrino 2.6 for instance runs graphics entirely from the GPU among some other tweeks, and you WILL NOT find a smoother faster rom. WILL NOT!
Now the only real ways we have to test out phones "performance" is with benchmarking apps like antutu and quandrant. But honestly their outcomes tend to vary so much, its hard to go by what they say.
But just so everyone knows, my best bechmark "score" on antutu was 7047 with cm7 oc'd to 1.45 (which is gingerbread by the way)
Ive benched every rom from all of Jokers cm9's, to every miui (GB&ICS) as well as all the CM7's and builds based off them (neutrino, morrisoftgen). Even BLUR based roms like dorians redpill and The Darkside by nottich.
All im saying is that I think both builds have the potential to be equally as powerful as the eachother.
PLEASE if Im completly wrong about ANY of this I would like to be corrected, but please make sure its with CORRECT information, lol.
Thanks!
CM9 anTuTu
Also, the best score on antutu ive gotten on any one of the cm9 jokersax builds with faux 1.45 oc kernel was about 6900!
So, so far Custom GB roms are best so far according to benches
I think the gb rooms perform a little bit faster...using cm9 4.0 jokersax and its laggy opening my app drawer and little laggy moments too..cm7 was a little bit faster though imo

Yeah, I'm pretty sure the ICS ROMs still aren't very good with 2D hardware acceleration. And that means 2D is still gonna be slow and jerky.
ICS
I am running with jokersax ics rom, it is great, and the performance is better than the OTA 2.3.5 from Bell.. it took a bit to get the bootloader unlocked, etc.. it seems like I flash roms daily now... Unfortunately, there are still bugs... the most utd rom does not seem to take pictures properly, causes the app to lock up, and the video cam is no usable at all.. :\ I have reverted back to the 0.3.3 rom, and it will take pictures... as far as 2d/3d games are concerned, I play world of goo, hot pursuit, angry birds space and they all run great...
Motorola has ics update in progress as we speak, and they should be rolling out in a couple months, which means any lost code or functions that are n/a now will be rippable from the official... so either way, you can use the ota now or get a taste of ICS with a few problems...
flashing only takes about 5 minutes anyhoo, so its not like you can't switch back and forth....
I find ICS to perform a little quicker, my 2 cents.
Performance
Personally I have used Jokersax's and turl's builds (using turl now, but downloading jokersax 0.4.4 now). Both have really very good performance, especially compared to stock, I would say they outperform it by a long way, but yea, 2D graphics aren't brilliant and the camera was borked (although jokersax has apparently fixed that). I would say definitely change to 4.0.4 just because it is the latest android version and everything about it is soo nice, no blur to bog it down and while I am sure that many 2.3 roms can perform better, sometimes, it is best to choose user experience.
im on turl's latest and find scrolling to be so utterly smooth on ics easily replicating the smooth scrolling experiene on iphone whereas GB always had that slight jittery scroll which always annoyed me. I use apex launcher which i find to be smoother than trebuchet and with that all in all id say performance seems smoother than back on GB
I'm using CM9 both on HPtouchpad and Atrix.
And I can say that Atrix's 2d acceleration is not perfect yet.
It is almost perfect when we scroll lists.
But not when we scroll home screen with wallpaper scroll option.
And some people will think that browser's acceleration is perfect,
but it is not yet when it comes to complex web page.
It can be even more faster. I found that when I used cm9 on hp touchpad.
(Of course, turl and jokersax are doing great job. We have to blame motorola and nvidia )
I find cm9 to work very well, although there are the browser issues mentioned elsewhere.
