Apparently HP has made webOS open source, Is a port possible?
possible, most probably yes.
Will anyone do it, most probably not.
Seems a nice os to be honest, but id prefer meego over webos than
Webos is great. If it started as good hardware and made it open source it would have been huge. I have owned a palm pre ans I rly enyojed that phone just, the hardware was ****.

IMO WebOS is the most comfortable mobileOS available. It looks great and does everything fast.
I would love to try some WebOS on my Atrix, I think it will be even better then android.
Its a shame for Palm that such a masterpiece didnt succeed better....

Since the latest Palm phones were announced, I've been wondering if I should switch to a palm phone. I've always loved how WebOS worked. I would have probably gotten a WebOS phone had there been a Palm phone with the Evo internals.
And out of curiosity I checked Sprint to see if the palm pad was listed, unsurprisingly, it wasn't. What did surprise me was that the Palm Pre was NOT listed anymore.
I like web os but iys like the red heades step child of phone platforms. Not to much dev support like for android phones and i got frustrated with the lack of apps in the store. Though it is amazing platform jus not getting recognition but who know maybe hp can change all that we will see

It was definitely cool to mess around with.. but like jesz said... not a lot of support.
I also had a ton of issues with it... exchanging for faulty hardware (headphone jack) to getting software updates that fixed some issues but broke other things.. it was a mess.
Hopefully HP does really well... competition is never a bad thing.
If HP released the Pre 3 right now I would probably get it. I found it my Pre to be the most amazing device I've used so far, I think I was one of the few to have a good build. I could care less about dev support because really I only used a core of 15 apps or so and thats all I use for Android. I love my Evo dearly but if Sprint doesn't announce a successor...
Yeahh thats another issue i had i had my pre for like Ill say 7 months and i had gone

WebOS isn't too bad. But until a semi decent bit of hardware comes packaged with WebOS then I'll continue to watch.

Agreed. The webOS interface and the way it handles multitasking is just perfect. The patches available from the webOS Internals team were amazing and a breeze to use.
If only it had better hardware, I wouldn't look back to Android ever again. At least we can dream.

I like android and all but it just gets old just like if I had the iPhone for awhile it would get old too. I'm tired of all the new phones coming out being android because its all the same with a little hardware change. If I'm going to get a new device I don't want it to be a android cause the evo is a great phone and there no need to upgrade it to something that really doesn't do much more besides have a nicer screen or a faster processer. So does anyone know if any new OS coming to the market soon to keep things fresh?

What is....a two year old platform that fell flat on its face?
Had a palm pre if they could get the hardware right it would be a good os if they placed that os in something like the evos hardware it would have been a success. But it still needs far better apps and someone to restrict the crap they put in there market. Anyways I'm tired of that os too.

Sounds like you have a really short attention span.
A.d.d. perhaps?
Without the release of new OSes, you could always jump from OS to OS with each upgrade to switch it up a bit, Android > WP7 > WebOS > iPhone (where available) etc... By the time you make the rounds, years will have passed and the OS may be much different from what you remember.
On another note, there was rumor that Motorola was working on their own OS, we'll see if that comes to fruition, and Nokia has a new OS, Meego, that is linux based and supposed to be pretty smooth. Since we don't see many Nokias here, I am not sure if we will see Meego (though I do believe it has been ported to the HD2- along with every other OS).
Honeycomb is a pretty big changeup
I'm digging it so far

On your xoom? I don't think we'll see that version of HC on our mobile phones...
I'd love to see a pretty solid Meego phone come out in the near future, it seems like the next best thing to Android.
Also, I wouldn't touch any proprietary Motorola OS with a ten-foot pole....
If palm/HP partnered with HTC and started making manly 4" phones and not little black Easter eggs webOS would bend android over and make it beg for mercy.

...AND have the same (or hell, any) dev interest.
My wife had the pre and the pixi. I didn't like webos. Won't be trying it again any time soon.
Can you please explain what features your missing that android or ios don't have?
Would you be pleased if they made another platform exactly like android or ios and just called it something else.... like "Humpty-Dumpty"? That's be something new I suppose...
Or you can just try Wp7.
In all reality though, there are more than likely no more os's coming out for phones at least for a while. Between android, ios, and wp7 there is really no reason...
So does anyone else want webOS on there incredible? I know I do.....

I wanting WebOS on incredible for make more fun with phone!
That would be awesome!!!
I really love WebOS as a tablet OS, but I don't think I would like it as much for phones. WebOS is by far my favorite tablet OS.
There was a reason why it failed so hard.
It definitively possible:

But the question is, what do you think the chances of a port for the i9000 are?
I don't know too much when it comes to the really technical side of things, but i assume there's no real reason that the Galaxy S couldn't run the OS, now that it's open source... is there?
Would you want to use Web OS on your phone?
It certainly is gorgeous, and fun to play with, if nothing else.
DISCUSS!
Since cm7 and other aosp builds work so poorly with the I9000, I wouldn't hold my breath. Don't think for a minute though that someone won't try.
Might be fun to play around with on a weekend.

WebOS is useless, but it still could be fun. Nobody will work on it, however - too much work for a dead OS.

I don't know where you got that information that cm7 and other ports with cm7 base are poorly working on i9000, because they work actually much better than samsung roms... -.- And that is fact, hands down.

I don't think so. I had the Palm Pre 1 and still have the Pre 3. They're great and easy to use. WebOs has so much potential, it shouldn't be given up that easy. It's so innovative and full of interesting functions, I would love to see a port to the SGS!!
Some of it's benefits:
really fast!!
easy to use
a great solution for "multitasking" (some say it's a useless gimmick, but they should take a look how other OS's solved this problem (!...))
Opensource
To compare how good the software architecture of WebOs is, take a look at the Moto Droid (Milestone 1) and the Palm Pre. While the Droid is very laggy on Eclaire or even Froyo, the Palm Pre, with the same processor as the Droid, runs very very fast and smooth. Even with WebOs 2.1, which isn't really released for the Pre. There's a port of WebOs 2.1 for the Pre and even then it's still so smooth and fast. Flash contents on websites are running very fast, but when I take a look at my Droid using flash contents on websites...I'm able to count the frames...
I still belive in WebOs, because it'S, in my opinion, a great OS!!
I would flash WebOS onto my device, even when i cannot go back to Android.
Devs, go for it
Sounds great
I would flash it , but android ics is really good!
maybe because the designer of webOS has worked on designing ICS

I had a Palm Pre for a while after my Desire died. I would not use it again, WebOS has quite a good homebrew community but Android offers thousands of apps more and is more intuitive in my opinion.
Is this topic still alive, will someone work to port Webos to Galaxy S i9000.
I have used webos and now I moved to android after my webos died.
I personally perfer webos over android, could someone let me know the status of this topic.
Here is a nice article about the subject :
http://www.zdnet.com/blog/mobile-news/hp-webos-open-source-begins-8212-what-next/6588
actually its a smart step from Hp to go Open source better than killing the WebOS , they think if WebOs given the amount to attention as the android having now the WebOS tablet may superpass Android tablet and maybe IOS tablet too !!
let's hope for the best

No one likes that crappy OS.....open sourced or not, is not going to matter!
It would be nice to have it integrated into android. Webos has some cool features that would look good on android. With it being open source i see people porting things over
I think that if some really good devs get their hands on the source code they might make it what it was intended to be all along. I think that webOS never experienced its full capacity because it didn't attract the pockets of major investors, but that can change.
Never underestimate anyone... or even more, Anything...
I hope its ported. Just another reason to feed my addiction to flashing roms haha

so, a guy has cobbled together a pretty pre-pre-pre-alpha monstrosity and slapped it into the evo 3d.
http://www.theverge.com/2011/12/9/2...r-htcs-evo-3d-a-proof-of-concept-for-the-time
i'm switching to verizon once the nexus is released, so my evo will turn into more of a toy/media device, and i think i'd really love to play around with webos on a huge evo screen.
am i alone on this one? or is anybody else out there plotting and scheming about how to shoehorn it into our previous evos?
I personally enjoy webos. If it only had the support that Android or ios has (apps wise) then I believe it can be a real competitor in the near future. Would be dope if the Evo gets a port
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
Would be very interesting. There are quite a few very nice functional and visual to WebOS, be great to just get certain parts of it, I don't really want a full port(besides to play around with), but just some of its features and effects would be nice to integrate into a ROM. Def with ICS.
I personally love web os it has many great features but I'm confused when palm owned it I thought it was open source I remember hearing Ruby talk about how great that was. Why did HP close it in the first place. I mean I might be wrong so please if I am school me

Wat? I'm going to venture a guess here that you've never used it. It's far from crappy. The failure was the devices it was placed on and their prices. WebOS wasn't the problem.
