[Free] 50Gb Box.net Account - Galaxy S II General

Hello, this is my first thread so I'm sorry if it's in the wrong section/already been posted/killing too many puppies etc..
A thread I saw: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1383808 spoofs Htc devices as a LG device. I've tested it on our i9100 and it works (by following the instructions).
Make sure you make a backup, if your phone explodes etc it's not my fault.
I just thought Galaxy SII people would like in on this offer too
Attachment is screenshot of my phone.
You can create multiple accounts through the app, all of which will have 50gb free.
To edit the build.prop (found in /system/build.prop) you can use adb (pull/push), or PropEditor or Rom ToolBox

Good find. =)

nice, worked perfectly - you can even register multiple accounts
to edit the build.prop, i used PropEditor v0.3

pc sync
Thanks for the tip, all that extra storage for a couple of minutes work. A lot of people have been complaining about not having pc sync for box.net. If you want desktop access all you have to do is setup a network folder pointing to your box.net account using the following address https://www.box.net/dav

And of course you do know on windows 7 every time you restart pc you'll have to delete mount and setup again??? Which leaves downloading from web one by one the "practical" solution.

yeah, 50 gigs with a 25mb file size, what's the point...

Actually I don't know because I don't have that problem with windows 7, I created a desktop short cut to my box.net account. After a reboot all I have to do is click on the box with my stored credentials and I instantly have access to my box.net folder, no need to delete mount and setup again???
The 25mb limit is pretty crap though, kind of defeats the object

Hi
That why I haven´t made a Box.net account yet ...
And I also prefer Dropbox because of the smooth integration with Titanium Backup and ESFileExplorer.
On the other hand Box.net might be handy for more static backup of pictures and other tiny sized stuff LOL

On my box.net account the limit is 100mb for uploads. I made mine during the 50gb promotion on the iPhone. Overall Skydrive is the best for backing up files, especially after the latest updates.

Dropbox for Android - Access your pc files

I have just installed Dropbox on both my PCs and on my Desire. This is a great way of synching files between 2 computers without the need for emailing them to yourself or continually copying them between computers.
THe PC version is here:
https://www.dropbox.com/referrals/NTc1MjQzMTQ5
For the Andriod version search 'Dropbox' in the market.
With Dropbox on your Andriod you can access files from your home PC without having to actually have them installed on your device. Never forget a file again and save valuable space on your SD card!
How did I ever manage without it?!
If you install keepass on your android and pc and save the file to the dropbox folder, you can have a synced pc and phone password app.

Excellent idea - I was already putting passwords in there, but better to have them protected!
Thanks for the tip!
The dropbox for android app is a bit useless. It only lets you upload certain file types. I was trying to upload a zip file. Why not just allow any file to be uploaded instead of showing you that silly menu of images, videos, music or text files (which didn't even work)? For the other way round, it is useful yes.
There is a work around (forgot it...) but yeah I agree... though it's only a beta, had to be expected.

My thoughts exactly. Sorely requiring updates. Basic rar, pdf, txt and such files don't even upload. Nor did vids with mine, after 2 hours on WiFi, the file size was still 0 KB. There's no obvious way to link to someone over Android for them to download the aud/vid (not stream, which it defaults to). At the moment, I'm only using it to manage already uploaded files from my PC/laptop, and to retrieve them from the phone.
As I've posted in previous threads, I've been using this app for just over 2 weeks now.

Dropbox FTMFW! Not sure if a lot of people here use it

I've herd about it in the past but never really paid any attention to it. This is the most used app by me now. If you were ever looking to sync your pictures and files from computer to your phone or pc this is IT! Install .apk's by dragging them to a dropboxfolder on your pc and go install on your phone, I am not sure but I think they also have a picture folder sync option from phone to pc? Anyways the 2gb account is free and if you do sign up please use me as a refferal
Ref-feral link (we both get extra space)
https://www.dropbox.com/link/21.ey4bQIW9qp
if you don't want to refer me,
https://www.dropbox.com/register
I was using Eye-Fi on my camera before this, but this is awesome for file sharing.
Its a great application, I wish it did automatic syncing with folders on the android version. I cant wait for them to add it. (They only just added it on the desktop version).
of course I'd just be happy with the option to sync a whole folder or multi-select files.
I've been using dropbox for awhile for general file access ease, but started using it on my phone as soon as the app came out. I wish titanium would backup from dropbox, but it's nice that it saves to it. I always save pics and files to it before flashing a new rom.
Sent from my <tw> powered vibrant.
I use it all the time, on all my devices.
by the way, in order for the referral to validate. The individual referred must install the desktop client.
I used dropbox to install my first custom ROM (Axura 2.2.6) the other day. Amazing app. I can't believe more people don't use it, if for no other reason that it makes t so painless to put things on your phone, like apks.
+1 amazing! Apps are available for loads of mobile platforms too. If yiu long press an item in root explorer and send you can select dropbox and it lets you choose any folder to send to the shared folder is really useful too!

[Q] Anyone using the free 50GB box account for backup?

I would like to have my phone automatically upload any photos I've taken to BOX (since there's so much room) so i don't have to think about it.
Is this possible? If my phone was stolen (heading to NYC next weekend) I can remotely wipe it but it would be nice if my photos (the only thing of value on the phone) were always backed up/uploaded to cloud without me having to intervene and select each one manually.
Is there a how-to or what are other people doing about this?

I signed up for the free 50 GB but that damn thing is so hard to use. Can't get it set up correctly on my pc, there's no folder showing up to drop anything into, and can't find any decent support on their site. Dropbox is so much better, I got free 5 GB last year with my Rezound from HTC but still need more space.

They have a sync program for windows pc's which is supposed to be just like dropbox and google drive, a folder is supposed to be created on your desktop that you drag and drop files into and that folder syncs with your phone. I've installed the sync software a number of times and the folder is never created. The instructions in the sync program say to drag your files over to the desk top folder so it should be created but its not

Stuck with 8gb version - how do you save space?

Ok, so I got stuck with an 8gb model. (I got an extremely good condition one used with box/unused accessories for $285 so I won't complain too much.
The 8gb never appealed to me. Not because I need so much space, but I hate the idea of using the cloud *when* carriers are charging so much just to get 2gb-4gb of bandwith.
Well anyway, for that reasons I am using an Unlimited T-Mobile plan, and am wondering....what tips does everyone have for using the cloud to keep using all the features you want (games, music, pictures, etc.) while keeping storage available on the device?
I never used a lot of space, but I at least would always put a lot of music on my SD card and let things clutter up because I had a 32gb SD card.
So what are you guys doing?
I'm going to use Pandora/Play Music streaming for my music fix....
anybody have a good way of uploading pictures you take/deleting them automatically?
Not using this method myself, but you could get these apps:
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.box.android
From what I've heard Box gives you 50GB of free storage when logging into the app on an LG device!
I hope this is the solution you're looking for.

I have always had Dropbox, but I use that primarily for work and don't want to put personal stuff on it.

You definitly can, I tested it just to be sure. Maybe they used to charge you for syncing, I dont know, but they don't anymore. You can see what features you can use on the free plan right here: https://www.box.com/pricing/
If you want to use an alternative cloud service you can also use Google Drive or any of the other Cloudsync supported services. You can see what other cloud based storage services are supported in the Cloudsync description: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=dk.tacit.android.foldersync.lite
Hope this helped you.
Box is good, use two gmail accounts with your nexus and get 100gb. Drop box is good also. I generally have around 2gbs available. I keep all things that I use most often on internal storage. Everything else on cloud/s. The 8gbs isn't that big of a deal, just makes you a little more aware of what space you have.
To keep your photo and video storage to a minimum, you can use Google+ Instant Upload. Once your photos and videos are uploaded, you can delete them from your device.
Foldersync and Box did the trick. I have 50gb on box, so I set up my picture/video folders to sync with Box then delete the content off the device after sync.
if you are keeping a stock backup, use twrp as you can compress a backup file.
leave google+ instant upload or similar on.
I use kainy remote desktop app for streaming movies and games

Good shout, didn't know about the upgraded space! Just logged in on Android app and got myself some free space, nice one!
I'd still consider drop-box if i were you. If you have camera upload enabled, even if you delete a photo after you've taken it, when you get home or connect to WiFi, the deleted photos still get uploaded. It's kinda of strange, but its always done it on my Gnex, and same thing happens on my N4, so it cant be just me.
But if you really want to keep your drop-box account for work that's fine.
To get more drop-box storage, ask any of your friends that have a fairly new HTC or Samsung device if you can log in with your drop-box account, it will give you bonus storage.

built in backup is worthless

8 days after i got my HTC One, the software broke on the phone... Lockscreen stopped working.
So 12 days after i got i (today) - i decided to Factory Restore the phone.
I made sure that everything on the phone is synced and backed up, using ALL the built in backup/sync options...
2 hours later i deeply regret my decision ... or... let's say i'm much wiser now...
- All Text messages are gone
- All Pictures are gone
- All music is gone
- All app settings are gone
- All contacts are more or less reset to sqare-1
But luckily... The phone remembered the placement of Widgets, Icons, Shortcuts and mostly what apps i had installed... how great...
I don't understand how you Android people can live with this ??
There's alot of 3rd party apps to backup your phone. And personally I really don't use these backups at all in fact nobody can even force me to use it. I just feel uncomfortable putting all my messages, contacts, pictures and whatever stuff to some nobody knows what cloud service they use
And ohh by the way I use android tuner and my computer for my backup needs.

Yea - when talking to Droid people, they like to setup their own backup plan...
what i dont understand is why they want that ??
With iPhone i synced with iTunes and ALL setting.. i literally mean ALL SETTINGS... was backed up..
If i lost my iPhone, i plugged a new one into iTunes and 1 hour later im off as if nothing happened... i would love to have such a solution with my HTC One...

We live with this by reading up on what the backup will backup. You got a new phone and new apps and you didn't bother finding out what they do? I went to HTC's website and found out exactly what it did, and acted accordingly when I used the backup feature. Never lost a single image.
There are plenty of solutions for full and reliable backup on Android phone. If you are rooted, then go for Titanium Backup or MyBackup, really straight forward, no need for PC.
If you are not rooted then go for Helium (formerly known as Carbon). You need the app installed on PC/Mac as well.
If you just want to backup your messages/call logs, go for SMS Backup and Restore; and CallLog Backup and Restore, no need for root.
You do not need to backup your contacts if you are using Google account, you can setup your phone contacts to your Google account.
As for the pictures, Dropbox or Google+ have automatic upload for them.
For audio files, there are even apps which can sync with iTunes.

Actually the backup and reset feature specifically says "Back up app data, Wi-Fi passwords, and other settings to Google servers", and if you select HTC Account it says "Back up settings, accounts & passwords, bookmarks and apps daily over Wi-Fi".
This is a HTC feature, not an "Android" feature. Apple owns every phone they produce, and thus they can have a unified architecture for their apps and media/backup functions. I'm not defending HTC, or Android. God knows we need a standard backup service that basically copies our whole phone.

Those were just the options you have, you don't actually need to use "7th app" for anything. I just showed that if you need to backup ONLY sms/calls that you can do that. Titanium Backup for example can backup everything except the files. For files I suggest you use FolderSync which can backup to any cloud out there, including your own ftp/dav/s3/samba folder.
Or you can go back to iPhone and regret it
The lockscreen stops functioning correctly if you turn on an accessibility option in settings. Example would be turning on the Pebble smartwatch accessibility feature.

If you are rooted, I'm surprised no one mentioned Rom Toolbox Pro. Backs up apps and data to internal or external storage, dropbox, box, etc...
More importantly provides a very complete tool set for installing roms, themes, and a host of other utilities to numerous to mention. Anyway, I'm not affiliated in any way, just have been using it for a long time and don't even bother with TiBackup or Rom Manager stuff anymore. Usually this is the first app I load after fresh installs to bring all my apps back.
Either your phone has software defect or you couldn't managed to use it properly. I backed up everything and quite easily.
Also remember to transfer your back ups made titanium back up or my back up pro to dropbox or your computer because when you perform a factory reset I believe it formats your internal sdcard also. So your back up is gone, too.
You shouldnt ever click the button that specifically says that it will delete the entire memory. You only need to do the normal factory reset. Backup your messages to the external storage using the built in backup in messaging and you would have been good.

The built in backup leaves out a few things. I decided to try it on my last everyday romswap, and most things got back, but without settings, passwords and so on. Imo pretty useless.
Go for helium backup or titanium instead. If they fix it, perfect, exactly what I need

What I don't understand is since the introduction of ICS, Android has a built-in backup function accessible via ADB commands even without having to root your phone. This (as far as I'm aware) is available to ALL Android devices running 4.0 ICS or later. Why then are OEM's not including a backup function with their desktop software? If developers here on XDA can create small executable files to run a backup on our devices, then surely it can't be that difficult to integrate a similar function into something like HTC Sync??
With regards HTC Backup one the One, I haven't tried that as I used Helium backup when I reset my phone. Works perfectly even without root.

Here's what I did basically. I used the built-in SMS backup feature, manually forced a whatsapp backup (only the automatic 4am backup is saved on SD, unless you force a backup) and backed up my contacts with Go Contacts (I just don't know how Google Contacts work, just wasn't ever that reliable to me). With these 3 done, I did the Backup & Reset thing. Then I copied my whole SD to my hard drive. Done
