Ok, so I got stuck with an 8gb model. (I got an extremely good condition one used with box/unused accessories for $285 so I won't complain too much.
The 8gb never appealed to me. Not because I need so much space, but I hate the idea of using the cloud *when* carriers are charging so much just to get 2gb-4gb of bandwith.
Well anyway, for that reasons I am using an Unlimited T-Mobile plan, and am wondering....what tips does everyone have for using the cloud to keep using all the features you want (games, music, pictures, etc.) while keeping storage available on the device?
I never used a lot of space, but I at least would always put a lot of music on my SD card and let things clutter up because I had a 32gb SD card.
So what are you guys doing?
I'm going to use Pandora/Play Music streaming for my music fix....
anybody have a good way of uploading pictures you take/deleting them automatically?

So do you think I can use Foldersync to sync with Box?
I have always had Dropbox, but I use that primarily for work and don't want to put personal stuff on it.
I have a Box account (already with 50gb from signing up way long ago) but they make you pay for syncing...

You definitly can, I tested it just to be sure. Maybe they used to charge you for syncing, I dont know, but they don't anymore. You can see what features you can use on the free plan right here: https://www.box.com/pricing/
If you want to use an alternative cloud service you can also use Google Drive or any of the other Cloudsync supported services. Box is good, use two gmail accounts with your nexus and get 100gb. Drop box is good also. I generally have around 2gbs available. I keep all things that I use most often on internal storage. Everything else on cloud/s. The 8gbs isn't that big of a deal, just makes you a little more aware of what space you have.
To keep your photo and video storage to a minimum, you can use Google+ Instant Upload. Once your photos and videos are uploaded, you can delete them from your device.
Foldersync and Box did the trick. I have 50gb on box, so I set up my picture/video folders to sync with Box then delete the content off the device after sync.
if you are keeping a stock backup, use twrp as you can compress a backup file.
leave google+ instant upload or similar on.

By default, yes. But with one of the recent updates, you now have the option of uploading at full resolution.

Good shout, didn't know about the upgraded space! Just logged in on Android app and got myself some free space, nice one!
I'd still consider drop-box if i were you. If you have camera upload enabled, even if you delete a photo after you've taken it, when you get home or connect to WiFi, the deleted photos still get uploaded. It's kinda of strange, but its always done it on my Gnex, and same thing happens on my N4, so it cant be just me.
But if you really want to keep your drop-box account for work that's fine.
To get more drop-box storage, ask any of your friends that have a fairly new HTC or Samsung device if you can log in with your drop-box account, it will give you bonus storage.

this doesn't do online storage at all. it simply has a client on your home/work PC and serves all your files from your computer. in that sense, it's unlimited
Homepipe is decent, but for video, music and pictures I prefer Orb.

nope. it happened instantaneously for me. i was using the web interface on the desktop where i host the server though

No you don't. Once you install Homepipe on your phone, and the agent on your computer, you can access your files from any location.
Is homepipe down? I couldnt sign in this morning on my Blackbook before i left for work.
What are some alternatives? I wasnt too happy I had to use 4G to stream mp3's. It dropped my battery like 2% a song...

Dropbox mostly. I like how well it integrates into Windows and how easy it is to share files. And so far the 7GB I have has been enough.
Might try using Google Drive a bit more.

Between Dropbox and Drive I've got 10 GB of cloud storage, free. You can up Drive storage to 25 GB for $2.49 a month.
I've got 25GB on Skydrive, 3.6GB on Dropbox and not even touched Google Drive barely. I just spread things around between them, good to have the choice.
Main one is dropbox just so easy to use though the others pretty much do things the same way now. Tend to also use it to transfer small files to my phone/tab.
Google drive I mainly use for syncing backups from Titanium backup, don't like the way you can't just download a file somewhere sensible on android without hunting through folders for where it put it.
Sugar sync mainly on PC it syncs a few specific folders for backup, photos standalone apps I never forget where I got them from etc.
Box have an account not really used it for anything.
Sky drive not really used yet
Asus sync, have the old unlimited storage plan £20ish a year thats no longer available to new customers. It has backup of most of my PC, has a stupidly slow upload speed been backing up my computer for over a year.
No need to restrict yourself to one.

I thought I was supposed to have 25 gigs also. I sighned up b4 they announced they were lowering the limit to 7 gigs. But this morning I got a notice that I'm nearing my 7 gig limit!
I use them all, and none of them work worth a **** for streaming videos.

I downloaded a trial of Just Cloud. A pop up came when the trial was over. I followed the link to an offer for 50% off. I decided against continuing when they offered 70% off and I jumped 250 GB of storage for $27 a year. The only down side if the app won't work for my Nexus, just my phone.
I have Box, SugarSync, Drive and Drop box. I need to pare this down a bit I think
I use MegaCloud. A free account gives you 8GB for files, and 8GB for backup. It's easy to earn more free GB's too, and they have a free app in the Play Store to easily transfer your stuff back and forth to the N7. If you need more storage, they also have paid accounts.

I suggest anyone to get the Pogoplug from walmart for $50 its an in house cloud device just hook up external HDD whatever size and it even has a slot for SD cards on the side. Then you can read anything off it from all devices you want to reach it. I Hare 16 Google accounts, so I get 80gb of storage on Google drive, plus 25gb on sky drive, 5gb on drop box, and another 7gb on sugar sync

and i access all of them conveniently with ES File Explorer. full copy paste download options, except, of course, Box got 100mb filesize limit. silly Box.
i use GDrive as pictures as they have unlimited pic and video storage and my RAZR does all the shooting. everything with camera i upload using desktop Picasa. unlimited. storage.
sure it has some 5Gb of misc storage too or something.
DropBox is nice for quick document multi-location work as it syncs best between desktop and phone. but 3.75Gb only (click the link on my sig! ) also use Public folder for sharing public pics for forums n whatnot... and pretty much sharing public stuff.
SkyDrive i got 25Gb and that's where i store most of my office docs and misc files.
Box i got 50Gb but with the filesize limit i use it only for Titanium Backup and a couple Android stuff (fastboot and ROM and stuff). i use GSplitter to split/unify the files.

Dropbox + ES File Explorer + MX Player. Streamed xvid avi just fine for me. need to try SkyDrive i suppose...
edit: just tried Skydrive. it doesn't support AVI. but Box.net works just fine. And Drive too. maybe ill put my movies in Drive.... hmmm....
edit: spoke too soon. Box uploaded and stream just fine. But Drive won't stream. it uploads and it looks like its playing, but i only got black screen. oh well, i can always go to G+ app and open my videos there.

Is this possible? If my phone was stolen (heading to NYC next weekend) I can remotely wipe it but it would be nice if my photos (the only thing of value on the phone) were always backed up/uploaded to cloud without me having to intervene and select each one manually.
Is there a how-to or what are other people doing about this?

I signed up for the free 50 GB but that damn thing is so hard to use. Can't get it set up correctly on my pc, there's no folder showing up to drop anything into, and can't find any decent support on their site. Dropbox is so much better, I got free 5 GB last year with my Rezound from HTC but still need more space.

They have a sync program for windows pc's which is supposed to be just like dropbox and google drive, a folder is supposed to be created on your desktop that you drag and drop files into and that folder syncs with your phone. I've installed the sync software a number of times and the folder is never created. The instructions in the sync program say to drag your files over to the desk top folder so it should be created but its not
I've been looking around for a cloud service (Skydrive, Google Drive, and Dropbox) to sync all my school work on (docx, pdfs, pptx, etc), but which one offers the best OFFLINE access?!
I currently have a:
- Desktop
- Laptop
- Nexus 7
that I'd like to sync. The problem is Skydrive requires internet access therefore that would make my Nexus 7 useless when I don't have internet access. Google Drive offers some offline access, but I want ALL my files on my Nexus 7 and not just some. Anyone know of Dropbox will allow me to have offline access on my Nexus 7?
Or are there any other cloud services that offer offline access on my N7?

Its a cloud how you wanna access it offline? If you want your files offline just put them on the internal storage.
Cloud service will always require internet access, but u can tag files in dropbox for offline usage (press and hold file and ull see the menu).

I could do that, but if I were to modify files or folders (add files, move, delete, edit), I would have to "manually sync" the changes to my N7, whereas a cloud service would do it automatically. I don't want to waste time ensuring that every device has the latest "versions" of my files and folders.
I've used box since g2x days when they were giving away 50gb free storage. It has an offline mode I don't personally use, but the option is there.

From what I've experienced, not all the files are synced to my N7. Google Drive will keep files that you open on your N7 cached on your tablet. What I'm looking for it all my files to be downloaded to my tablet.

I got 50 GB free for 2 yrs by installing a leaked Samsung ROM on my GS2 that offered that. If you need space, look for offers like that.

I just got 50gb from Box.com (search "Box 50 GB Promotion FAQs" in google search, even the the 50gb promotion was over (deadline dec, 31, 2012), I was still able to get my 50gb with my LG phone).
From what I've been able to test with Box, I'm able to multiselect files and folders which I can them make them available for offline use. This is perfect for my uses! I'm happy!
A little summary for people who are looking for offline access to their documents on their tablets (from my experience, if your experience differs please correct me)
Google Drive: You will only be able to access files that you choose to make offline (or save to storage) or have access to the files that are cached in the memory. You can't choose entire folders or select multiple files and make them offline (can't multiselect files and make them offline, you'll have to individually select a file and make it offline or save to storage).
Skydrive: You must have internet access in order to have access to your documents. Offline access is possible to files you download onto your N7 or files that are cached, but you can only download one file at a time (no multiselecting files or folders).
Dropbox: Same as Google Drive.
In conclusion, Box was the best service for me when the 4 services were compared for offline access. If you're able to get the 50GB promotion, then go for it! I'll figure out issues and report back!
Try dropbox with an app called DropSync. It will periodically download your whole dropbox locally for offline access.
Right now you can get 15gb of storage if you sign up for a box account through astro file manager..just putting it out there

So I have been experimenting with storage options since getting my N4 and learning to live without expandable storage...
So far I have been using dropbox for my storage which is mainly for pictures and some videos. The camera upload function and sync have working good so far, although I find it lacking when I am trying to pull a photo up from my dropbox when I am in a spot with poor service. Granted, this is going to happen with anything. I also have google drive and skydrive on the phone, but haven't really delved into them. I took advantage of the free 50GB of storage that box.com is offering and signed up.
Just wondering if anyone has used this, found a method to sync camera/gallery the way dropbox does?
For that matter, just kind of curious for anyone's input on cloud storage as I am a newbie to this on my phone.
I sounds like you're looking for something like FolderSync (search the play store). There's a lite version you can try out.
Basically you set it up to sync a folder on your phone with one in the cloud and yeah it supports box. Hope it helps!
