Touch Screen Not Working? - HD2 Android Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting and Genera

So I was on Gbaxe 1.7 and my phone started getting very buggy.. Over the course of the day, the touch screen stopped working. So I thought to myself "Ok, must be the rom!".. I downloaded 1.8a, had to t29 and install MAGLDR and such again since there was something wrong with the Boot img and everything went fine. Now, I boot up my freshly installed ROM, and it still is not working! Whats going on? I really don't want to buy a digitizer because knowing me I WILL screw up.
Edit: Read a post on holding the power button down really hard to "nudge" the digitizer, which actually worked, but I dont think its going to be a permanent fix σ_σ

Sounds like it is getting close to time for setting your phone back to windows mobile 6.5 and sending it in for a warranty repair.

[Q] my phone wont Touch anymore

Guys i need help my HD2 is 3months old and I've flashed 3 different Roms on it, about a week and a half ago it started acting funny, the touch screen wouldn't respond all the time especially if i lock it using the power button, now anytime i press the power button the touch doesn't respond at all sometimes i have to reset it 50x before the touch comes back so now I've resorted to my phone always being on & having it charge whenever i can to avoid it dying as it doesn't respond to touch when i wake it up again.
is it a software thing or do i need to send it back for hardware repairs?
if your planning on sending it back then make sure you flash your old stock ROM and remove any HSPL etc.
i cant tell from your question if you have flashed a new ROM since you have been having these issues? if you havent try that, if you had a bad flash then hard resets might not work so flashing it again may help.
as for a hardware problem, thats not really my area but with things to do with other hardware, if it works then it works, hardware doesnt usually stop an start unless it has power or heat issues, it sounds like you can run it fine so long as it doesnt shut down? if thats the case then id be thinking it may be more likely software, course youll know if that is the case if you flash a new ROM
i will flash a new rom tonight, Dutty's always seemed to work fine so i will try with that, since i never took insurance or a warranty out on it i guess it doesnt matter if it has spl on it or not.
oh new development, if i press & hold the power button really hard i can use the touch screen but as soon as i let go it stops responding again.
that dont sound good, hope the flash works but its sounding more an more like a hardware issue.
You'll need to pull the HSPL off if you want them to tinker with it under warrenty (it has a year) or they may charge you
I had the same problem with my phone. I flashed different roms for it, but the touchscreen still didnt work. I sent it in for warranty repair.
well i just flashed it back to Dutty's Rom & its fine for now, i will give it a day & if its not fine tomorrow i will send it in, thanxs for the help guys
phone is ok now its only frozen twice for a drum total of 4secs so i guess it was something in the Energy Rom i installed, never doing it again lol

Screen turning itself off when I slide it in

Hey guys, I jsu bought a used G1, since I needed a phone because I've started developing apps for android. Anyhow, since I don't have much money I had to buy a used one.
So this one has a (quite big) problem - when the screen is on the keyboard (normal position) the screen turns off. You can see the backlight, but nothing else. When the screen is slid out, it works perfectly fine.
Any idea what the problem may be?
Sent from my HTC Dream using XDA App
It can be a problem with the ROM also can be a hardware problem.. Try another ROM first and report back.
I tried more than 3 roms, still does the same.
I also filmed how it turns itself off:
http://dl.dropbox.com/u/5608529/vidya/g1.avi
Forgive me for stating the obvious, but have you tried wiping?
Yup, more than once.
At this point, if it was my phone, I'd consider breaking out a screwdriver set and try to see if something came loose or is worn.
Well now it's not working at all.
Not even when the screen is slid out.
And I don't have the required screws to open it... Guess I'll have to buy them somewhere :/
EDIT:
This is weird.. I somehow managed to turn it on, but now it's stuck on a black screen with "Build: " at the bottom of it...
EDIT2:
And now when I rebooted it, only the backlight turns on...
EDIT3:
When I turn it on regularly, the T-Mobile G1 screen appears and then disappears. You can still see the backlight, but nothing else happens.
When I turn it on to recovery mode, the G1 screen appears, then disppaears and then you can see a black screen with "Build: " at the bottom.
EDIT4:
Apparently, when I start it regularly, it does boot into Android, but it's like stuck.. Seems like it's kinda bricked? No idea.
EDIT5:
Is it possible to reinstall the ROM without having access to the recovery menu?

Getting a set of screwdrivers/torx/etc is a good idea. I picked mine up on eBay awhile back. An investment every techy guy should make.
It also sounds like you may want to get acquainted with adb and particularly fastboot. You *should* be able to use fastboot to get a working recovery and then use the recovery to get a rom loaded. This: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=532719 seems like a decent guide to get you going with what you need if it is in fact a software issue.
Since your experience keeps deteriorating, I'm beginning to wonder if a chip inside is going bad - especially with the odd things like "Build: " showing up. (Let's hope this is not the case!) Nevertheless, I think I'd start with fastboot and go from there. Good luck.
Thanks a lot, ill try it as soon as I get home.

EDIT1:
What the hell? All I did was delete the recovery (didn't even install a new one, kept on saying it's missing the file, even though I did move it using adb push) and now suddenly Android works normally.
EDIT2:
Well now it's stuck again, just like before deleting the recovery...
I'll try to reflash the recovery and then see what happens.

[Q] Screen digitizer failed trying to revert to stock

First off I did search until I went blue. I'm having the digitizer failure problem with my HD2 which has HSPL3 and a stripped down winmo 6.5 rom. I Have been running android from the SD card.
The main problem is the phone is stuck in "boot as disk" mode when plugged into my USB port and I can't use the screen to put it in "active sync" mode. Is there another way around this so I can put the stock SPL and rom on? I know I must be missing something easy.
Boot in bootloader: power off, and then after powering back on keep the volume down button pressed. You can flash stock WinMo from there.

Thanks! This is really strange though. The screen is now responding after not working at all for two weeks. Any chance somthing was stuck under the volume button and around the screen?
I doubt it. There's being quite some doubt about these digitizer failures though, whether they are really hardware problems or just software. I have always been a believer of the first, but recent stories have made me doubt that. It's probably a mixture of both, so if at some point the digitizer stops working again in WinMo, get it fixed while you're still under warranty.
ok, I still plan on sending back in. I bought it 6 months ago, found a winmo and android roms that worked and never messed with it again.
So I'm guessing I just flash the stock rom it came with from the SD card then take off HPSL?
I'm actually not sure how to completely remove all XDA-traces, but I bet there's plenty of guides on that in the WinMo section!
Thanks again. Right when my digitizer went out it seemed like 5 more OS options opened up Win phone 7, boot straight into android etc.
I got the phone into active sync while the screen worked for about 2 seconds. Everything should be cake from here.
Thanks for your help.

HD2 Serious freeze HELP!

I think here might be something wrong with the htc sense, but the thing is, that my hd2 touchscreen wont respond to my touch. When i'm at the unlock screen, i cant slide it to open up. This wont change after reboot either.
So eventually i set a hard-reset on the phone, but it didn't work after that either. I tried three times, no respond. Without the sim and with it in.
I cant recive calls or text messages, because i cant tap my PIN in, neither i could open or answer. I'm f***ed.
Okay, the next day i do my fourth hard-reset, and it starts working again, but after a time of use, it will start getting slow with the touch again, and then it will stop responding again. So I don't now what to do. There is now warranty time left, so i want to see what i can do my self before taking it to a repairing place and pay 100 € for it.
This is my everyday phone, and i would like to get it back to normal state as soon as possible, so many many many thanks to all who try to help me out of this
Cheers,
Nother

Have you flashed HSPL on it or this is all stock ROM?
honestly it looks like a hardware issue to me.
well i looked at the stats, and seems like i have HSPL on it, but it's not bought from a reseller, it was bought second-hand. it has worked perfectly until a few days ago, then the freezing started.

ok if it has HSPL on there that means someone flashed something on there.
I would flash task29, then flash the ROM of your choice and see if it still does it.
If the ROM is the problem a hard-reset won't fix it, so let's try this and see what happens.
Okay thanks for the help
the only problem is that i'm running on a mac, and i cant find any software to flash the hd2 on a mac..? Do you now any?
and could you link me a thread or a tutorial to how to flash 'cause i'm quite new with this anyway.
Thanks!

There is no way to do this on a mac, find a PC.
ok, here's the quick version.
1) download the attached file from this post:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=5848003&postcount=19
2) turn your phone off, then turn it back on while holding the vol-down arrow, this will bring you to a tri color screen. Make sure you are plugged in via USB.
(you could do this via activesync, but I want to avoid the freeze so this gets you right into bootloader)
3) unzip the file and run it, follow the on-screen instructions, it will flash task 29, which is basically a good reformat.
4) if you are fast, hold the vol down arrow when it reaches 100% and don't let go till you're back at the tri-color screen. If it goes to the splash screen it will stay there forever (because there is nothing flashed on your phone now). You have to do a battery pull or press the reset button. In this case hold the vol-down arrow again and power on the device to get you into the tri-color screen again.
5) Download the ROM of your choice from this forum:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=534
They are all custom ROMs, my favorite is the this one currently:
http://hotfile.com/dl/117879873/9b01b43/Energy.Leo.29020.Sense2.5.Cookie.2.0.sencity.May.14.7z.html
It was taken from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=591784
and is the awesome one with big finger friendly buttons as well as that awesome blackish theme (Sencity)
If you don't want a custom ROM then go to the HTC support site and find your stock ROM, download and flash that via SD card (I am assuming you have an international HD2 and not a TMOUS one).
If for some reason you have a TMOUS one DO NOT GO THRU HTC BUT USE TMOBILE'S SUPPORT SITE.
Let's get you rocking and rolling!
Thank you very much for your help, i'm very grateful
I'm going to run W7 virtually, just to be quick.
And I was thinking to flash straight to Android, is that possible? Like android 2.3 or something.
Cheers!
sorry if I made you unhappy, but my phone is now in a technic service due to same problem, it never fixed with a rom update, day by day your problem will appear more frequently, this is a hardware issue, maybe digitizer maybe hardware buttons block your touch screen.. I will see what will happen after my phone come to my hands again..
Okay thanks.
I will see what the reflashing will do. Then if it doesn't work, i will take it to repairing.
Thanks!

[Q] Touchscreen semi-unresponsiveness?

I've looked around and a lot of people have fully unresponsive screens. However, mine is I guess semi-unresponsive?
I can perform all my functions fine, but when I try to power down my phone via power button. It pops up the power menu and then my screen becomes completely unresponsive. I can only use the hard buttons, but nothing on the screen works. When I press the power button again to go into standby, it'll work like normal and my screen works again, all until I try to go to the power menu again. Does anyone know what is wrong?
I forgot which HD2 I'm using, but I know I bought it in the June of it's release and I'm in the US.
My current ROM is HyperDroid-GBX-v12, but I don't think it's a ROM issue since the previous ROM I had was even worse, same problems, but unresponsive at the lock screen at times.
Thanks, and let me know if I can give any other info.
Has this been happening since you flashed the Rom or is this a new problem?
This has just started happening. I think it was present to a lesser extent before, but I am noticing a lot more recently. I flashed a new ROM because I thought it was my old ROM, but the problem isn't going away.
For a work around, download the quick boot app from the market and power your phone off that way.
What Rom are you running now btw?
My current ROM is HyperDroid-GBX-v12,
Thanks for the work around, but I'm really wondering what the problem is since it persists between ROMs. I'm thinking hardware, but then it's so specific that I'm not sure.
The only other think I can think of trying to wipe your phone via CWR by formatting data, boot, system, Sd-ext (if applies), cache, and Dalvik cache. I know you re-flashed your Rom already but did you do a full wipe prior? It could be data corruption from the previous Rom. Just trying to troubleshoot
I'm currently having touchscreen issues myself. At first I though mine was totally hosed but then I read on some thread if you press the power button hard it can revive the screen. It worked for me. I assume there must be some loose cable somewhere beneath the power button that's causing these issues. It's probably just a coincidence that it stops working when you hold it down and you are really having the same issue as me.
I did wipe everything, but now I think of it I think I forgot to format my SD card. I'll try it now thanks.
Nope, still doesn't work. I'm at a lost for what's wrong right now =\

Be careful about mashing the power button too hard. I already have broke one HD2 because the power button cracked.....

Sorry to hear this. Like I said earlier try using Quick boot. It won't fix your problem but at least your phone will still work. Sorry I couldn't be of more assistance....
