it's a full-fledged linux distro, unlike android, and it's designed for mobile phones, which will make it more usable for our phones than ubuntu. It has a lot of major companies like intel and nokia putting a lot of money and time into developing it. Not many phones run it now, but there will be a lot of high end phones running it in the future. I can see it becoming a lot more popular with developers and the phone modding community in the coming years. I'm definitely looking forward for meego phones coming out and hope to see meego running well on our hd2s....though it will probably be a while before they get the graphics driver situation solved on the hd2 port, so it will be very sluggish until they solve that.
Why question more OS choices for the HD2? The greatest thing about the HD2 is that it can run many os's because of the great development community we have.
What the heck is meego, and why would I want it on my device? I was away from XDA for a few weeks and the entire sub-form of HD2:LEO has changed!!!

The project isn't canceled, its development is rather slow
From the video it looks like a kids OS, which would be great. I would like to be able to give my kids a mobile phone that they can't mess up too much but that they can still use as a media player/recorder, calendar, gps, and of course as a phone.
I really hope that it does get developed into a great OS, the more choices the better in my opinion.
is this project really cancelled or just postponed till further developer work on it?
Meanwhile, the Chinese people, I support you

Nothing because we all know this isnt going to happen; many(including myself) have reached out to devs on several occasions and none of them seem to even take an interest. why do you think we all keep creating WP7 threads and NO devs even show their faces usually. This project is not an easy project just ask anyone. We would need a new bootloader to even get this going, who's going to write the evo a new bootloader to dual boot this and android? As i stated above, no matter how many bounty's we put up our devs just aren't interested in WP7.
I couldn't care less about WP7 being ported, but it would be cool to see just for the sake of development. However, I would probably donate for a WebOS port.

Apparently those guys porting did the work on the nook color, these folks and more are working on it:

Good luck guys, I know it will be done before I even get to know webOS
Ok gentlemen, here is the situation. The HP Touchpad can now be had for $88. I just bought two of these capacitative touchscreened 1.2 ghz dual cored and gpu equipped tablets. With a 1gb of ram and all the other guts needed, IF YOU WANT A HP TOUCHPAD AS OF MIDNIGHT AUGUST 22nd LOOK HERE!
http://gifts.barnesandnoble.com/HP-...c=AFFILIATES-_-Linkshare-_-lw9MynSeamY-_-10:1
Fact: an Ipad 2 was displayed running web os.
Fact: Honeycomb's newest edition supports the Qualcomm dual core inside the touchpad.
Fact: HP may unlock the touchpad per se, make it open source, who know's what is going to happen to it, but I know this:
Fact: the market is going to be FLOODED with these tablets, for $100 thats insanely cheap for a good email and browsing tablet that has enough speed for normal users. So, I say we spin this messy situation around and find out how doable this is, because if it isn't hard, then we could potentially have a nice honeycomb tablet with a capacitative screen, nice capacity and specs, for $88 dollars. This is insane and we should capitalize upon it!
even if nothing comes of this, I think it's worth the $88 to use as an internet slate and watching stuff on trips, soooo cheap. I mean hell I can buy a chinese android tablet that is 2.1 and has a piece of crap resistive screen for $200!! Not to mention the 416 mh processors they come with! Yuck.
For that price, I bought two touchpads. Hell I'd even use them as remote displays, computer monitor is 120 bucks...
Ok guys so I looked into it a bit, and honeycomb 3.2 is the iteration with snapdragon, the touchpad CPU, support. I know that Google has had honecomb down under lock, so I don't know whether we can get a 3.2 build without porting that as well. What's crucial here, is that the Viewsonic G-tablet, an originally Froyo device, is running Honeycomb thanks to XDA port-masters. We need to pull our resources with the G-tablet guys, the honeycomb chefs with the Xoom and Transformer, and most importantly, someone who can get us the Qualcomm supported Honeycomb 3.2! If someone could brave the bee stings and steal it from the hive(Google? ), we can get our delicious honeycomb all over our new.....Touchcomb? Honeypad? HP Combpad? I like Combpad, but maybe...Clonepad...Copypad....gotta get a catchy name for this bandwagon, I would love to see every touchpad ever made converted to honeycomb. Such a useful piece of hardware that HP paid $322 to manufacture...
That and if everyone gave their Touchpad android I'd be known as the guy at the top of a very tall hill who chucked a small ball hoping to watch it turn into boulder...to crush Appletown. Wouldn't it be awesome if everyone bought a touchpad for $88 this Christmas and slapped android it, that would piss off Steve Jobs.

Honeycomb is complicated, because it's closed source.
But Gingerbread/Ice Cream Sandwich/even full GNU/Linux like Ubuntu should be quite easy (as long as bootloader isn't locked in any way - I'm uninformed on that matter).
We have kernels for practically identical SoCs available already (HTC Sensation/Evo 3D). Only a matter of time I dare to say.
with the update to webos 3.0.2 68, any potential issues that may affect the ability to install android.... From what i have read on the touchdroid wiki page it looks like the device is completely open. Can anyone confirm there was no protection added... Has anyone done the update yet?
I tweeted to rootzwiki to come join us. Told them we are following their project. Dunno if they'll join but would be nice if they did.

It would be nice to have it integrated into android. Webos has some cool features that would look good on android. With it being open source i see people porting things over
I think that if some really good devs get their hands on the source code they might make it what it was intended to be all along. I think that webOS never experienced its full capacity because it didn't attract the pockets of major investors, but that can change.
Never underestimate anyone... or even more, Anything...

so, a guy has cobbled together a pretty pre-pre-pre-alpha monstrosity and slapped it into the evo 3d.

i'm switching to verizon once the nexus is released, so my evo will turn into more of a toy/media device, and i think i'd really love to play around with webos on a huge evo screen.
am i alone on this one? or is anybody else out there plotting and scheming about how to shoehorn it into our previous evos?
I personally enjoy webos. If it only had the support that Android or ios has (apps wise) then I believe it can be a real competitor in the near future. Would be dope if the Evo gets a port

Would be very interesting. There are quite a few very nice functional and visual to WebOS, be great to just get certain parts of it, I don't really want a full port(besides to play around with), but just some of its features and effects would be nice to integrate into a ROM. Def with ICS.
I personally love web os it has many great features but I'm confused when palm owned it I thought it was open source I remember hearing Ruby talk about how great that was. Why did HP close it in the first place. I mean I might be wrong so please if I am school me

Especially when we android devs already know how hard it is getting support and sources out of some of these chip manufacturers!
But that said - we're an enterprising bunch and I think we'll see support for many devices already out there. You only have to look at the amount of ports that already have GUI up and working.
To answer the OP - as others have said - it feels dead as no one is really using it yet because it is so incomplete. There's no point us here on XDA jumping up and fixing it because Canonical are already hard at work at their end. As soon as we start seeing alpha (May), beta and RCs you'll see this OS jump to life on a lot of devices here on XDA.
It'll be interesting to see how these ports fair when they make the jump to MIR and stop using CM code though.

This is true, I really wanted this to happen. It seemed like something fresh and new. But I kind of feel the preview was just to appease people, it feels like it will go like Ubuntu for android. Big promises, but no end result. A daily driver was meant to be out any day now but I wouldn't hold your breath. I think they have bitten off more than they can chew. Look how long its taken Mozilla to get an os up and running. I'd like to be wrong, but we will see. Great idea, great design but questionable execution.

I don't think patients is what we're on about. The only person setting time limits is Mark Shuttleworth, its more about if it ever happens. Don't think anyone minds if it take a week, month or a year. Its the promises and then not happening that frustrates me and I'm sure others. I was excited about Ubuntu for android over a year ago, was even going to buy an atrix. Now I've gone and got a gnex and for Ubuntu touch. Then a week before its supposed realise, all of a sudden its a dev preview! The first videos and info left that info out and its running on cyanogen mod. That's not quite what we were told ether. All that aside the point being, I'm not against it intact I'd love it to happen. But in using this stock device I've found myself not really wanting to move and also expecting it not to happen. I can't help but feel the reality was more about getting people to use Ubuntu PC rather than touch. Its almost like any publicity is good publicity. Its not about time, its about truth and the truth is people are getting no feed back, where are they at, what they need, there's a whole community of developers at there disposal and there not using them. I had gone off android, Ubuntu touch has only made me love it again. I'm not trying to start an argument, its my view. Ubuntu to me just feels disorganised. Google doesn't!

Canonical release the dev preview to appease the us then it died down were still gonna have a long wait b4 am official release after that happens if we die down again then we're dead

Yes and no. When it was enounced there was no developer tag. It was a week in before that was added, I can't help but feel that the "developer preview" was originally going to be complete but they realised they couldn't manage it, so they realised what they had as a "developer preview" it kind of feels like they messed up and tryed to cover it up. I might be way off base here, it makes little difference to me as I've already said I'll be staying on android for now. Least on my nex4, witch will be my every day phone. I might try it on my gnex if it ever emerges but I won't hold my breath. . . to be clear I'm not annoyed at it taking time, I'm just saying to everyone don't expect it soon if ever. We will see.

Isn't that what open source is recycling (or piggybacking) from other peoples work. Why rewrite what's already there I would have found it idiotic if they didn't use cm.
Next your going to say they freeload off debian.
