First of all, Happy new year to everyone
I was wondering how can we allow the HD2 to preview a language other than english, such as sms, email, contacts without changing the GUI language.

Hi Zazu and happy new year to you.
You can download the manuals for the HD2 from HTC's website which should help you get to know your new toy better.

Well, yes, that works if one is using an alphabetic language. Unfortunately, such a simple solution is not possible if the required language is an Asian language. Under those circumstances, installing fonts is required, or flashing a ROM that supports the language so that you can also use a soft keyboard for input.
@Som30ne: Thank you for replying, but Arabic is not found in one of the languages
@wacky.banana: Thanks for the tip, I did that already and read through it, perhaps I missed it but i couldnt find anything that referred to adding an asian language.
@rlydiard: So where can I download an asian font for the phone ? And where should I install it.
I am skeptic about flashing the ROM because it voids the warranty, and can damage the phone if done incorrectly.
Thank you all for the help

I wish I could help you more on locating Arabic fonts, but as I am based on the island where HTC is headquartered, I am only familiar with installing traditional or simplified Chinese fonts in an English UI.
There are many talented Arabian members on XDA who can probably start you out in the right direction. Any fonts you acquire can be placed in the Windows folder on your device. This method will allow you to read the Arabic fonts on your device, but your keyboard would not allow you to write, so that is a whole other problem.
Perhaps doing a search of all the forums will come up with some leads on locating an Arabic font for you.

Maybe you should try this:
http://www.penreader.com/pocket-pc/...abic_Download_area_for_Language_Extender.html
What you need is an Arabizer and as far as I know one of the best solution is MOBiDIV (http://www.citglobal.com/mobidiv/home.jsp) It's shareware but really reliable and as far as i Know it has been testet successfully on HD2....
Cheers,

Unfortunately, not all answers can be found in HTC user manuals, but then, that is why XDA Developers exists in the first place, right? Getting unofficially supported languages to work on our beloved HTC devices is a good example of that.
@rlydiard: Thank you for the help anyway
@Som30ne: This program changes the language of the whole UI, I only want the phone to read another language, keyboard isnt as important now since its a hassle to fix.
@lee1980: Thank you for the link, ill read more into it
Guys I want to ask, if I copied an Arabic font from C:\Windows\Fonts in my computer to the HTC Windows folder, will that work ?
Thanks for the help Really appreciate it !!
Hmm I want to try sending some fonts to the phone, but should I send OpenType or TrueType ?
Can anyone please tell me if I can add fonts this way ?
Hey guys, how come there are many views and no new replies ((
I tried sending a font from C:\Windows\Fonts to HTC Windows\Fonts
But nothing really happened, I restarted the phone and nothing happened as well.
Any thoughts ?

You can try the attached file. It uses traditional Chinese though, not simplified characters. Unfortunately, at the moment I do not have a solution for simplified characters. Also, you can check this thread

If I find another solution I will let you know. In the meantime, you might post a request on the thread where the last solution was found. Maybe someone there knows how to change the order of words. It seems like a rather strange bug. You might also follow this thread, although I know you do not want to flash your LEO.
Today I was able to download and install Swype for my Wildfire.
Previously I would normally get the message that your screen resolution is not supported.
So anyone who have already signed up for Swype beta can install a working official version of swype for Wildfire.

I was very skeptical about it aswell but when I started using it for a while it really gets faster to type and I cant miss it.
I have an older customized version with English and Dutch/French + few other languages that works with the Wildfire perfectly.
Downside the apps is 5 MB because of the languages.
PM me if you want it.
Hi,
I really need an Arabic support to my milestone 2 device. I've searched the net for a solution with no result, it might be due to the fact that milestone 2 hasn't been officially released in the middle east!!
I'm quite sure it's possible because milestone 1, Defy and Atrix users have had a solution for this issue, then why not me?
Please guys any help would be appreciated, I'm fed up with this!
I'm running the latest firmware 2.2.2
Thanks in advance!.

search this forum. somebody else has asked a similar question needing arabic support. if im not mistaken there is no arabic support. the only way will be to write one yourself. as i said, search the forum and you will find ur answer
EDIT: there's a reason a thread has been created for general questions. had you looked through that thread there wouldnt be a need to create a new thread on this. refer to this thread for your answer.

We would have all languages if we would have a Cyanogenmod ROM but we haven't at this moment. You can eventually install More Locale app from market, and add your locale. After that you will get your language in all apps that support it.

Just install the "More Locale" app from the Android Market, and add your (Arabic) locale in this app. After that all installed apps will recognize your system locale as the Arabic and automatically will be translated to this language if support it. Just try and see results.
agent008my, mkmck or anyone can help, if you could guide me through this?
I've found this generic Arabic files for android 2.2 & 2.3
but I don't know if I can apply them to milestone 2 and how? because I'm no expert in milestone 2 firmware, especially that Arabic is shown in my device but the problem is that it's not connected letters, so there is a little hope here
here is the link please check it out:

the steps to the link there is pretty straight forward. you have to make sure your phone is rooted though. to root your phone, check through the android development section of this MS2 forum and you should be able to root your phone then. read carefully, and then read again before you attempt a root. once rooted, download root explorer or something similar and you should be able to follow the steps in that blog pretty easily
edit: you should be able to search through all the extension files stated (right from checking if your ROM is deodexed to modding the system/framework extensions) in that blog after you have rooted your phone via root explorer or similar
always always perform a nandroid backup before you start rooting your phone or installing the patch. you can learn more about nandroid backups and similar android terminology and rooting through these threads:

I installed Root explorer and before rooting I've explored the Framework. I found a framework with odex extension which make it not suitable for the method the guy mentioned.
So my question here, is deodexing the rom a possible thing for a basic user (I've read it's a complicated method), or do you advice me not to do it? -to be able to apply the files-
Thanks very much!.

to be very honest with you, here is my understanding on deodexing:
Apk files have respective odexes that devs use to supposedly save space. Deodexing means you convert it back to a .dex file and put it back inside the apk. This allows you to easily replace files (not having to worry about odexes), but the main point was to deodex services.jar so that you can change all text to different colors (such as the clock color to white) and to deodex services.jar, you need to deodex everything.
to be honest i know nothing about deodexing or how difficult it is to carry out. however, i did take the liberty of searching some up for you, and there is a tutorial on this forum about deodexing. its very complete and it should be able to help you.

Hello guys,
First of all thanks for this amazing forum and for the great spirit of helping others
Here's the case I'm getting my nook in 7 days (shipped from united status to egypt my country) and I got some inquiries and so on
1. Will I be able to read Arabic books (PDF)
2. If my main usage will be reading only and maybe checking on my emails and my Facebook should I root or not?
3. I heard that even after rooting and saw some YouTube videos that the experience of scrolling on the screen after rooting isn't good
in another meaning that it not worth rooting because It will not be pleasing.
4.To root (I read instructions and everything) but what's the difference between TouchNooter and Nook Manager? like what's better and on what occasions should I use any of them?
Sorry for annoying you guys hope you can bare with me.
Thanks in advance for whoever will bother to reply

1. You should be able to read arabic texts. Also with rooted nook you can download various PDF readers.
2. Checking emails and Facebook is almost imposible without root. Default browser is quite bad.
3. Scrolling is complicated but you can use norefresh app or browse pages one by one without scrolling.
4. Main difference for me is: TouchNooter has Gapps and NookManager has Amazon market. Also TouchNooter is only for firmware < 1.2.
Correct me if I'm wrong.
