I finally got my droid x about 2 weeks ago after waiting almost a month on backorder.. Since i ordered it ive gotten an pneumonia lung infection as of saturday tonsilitis and fevers.. Plus two weeks in i got laid off so this hasent been the greateast of time. Ive been pretty out of it and yea.. anywho. I got this and first thing i did was Root via the "DroidX Root" with the Root Me and UnRoot Me " buttons. Ive owned a G1 and a Droid Eris prior to all this and loved em both. Rooted them gotten the recovery image's custom roms ect. With this im getting confused. I think its partially because ive been so ill and disoriented half the time. Also because of this efuse crap and what not. Yes ive googled and searched but again ive been fairly out of it so im still not certian what i should do here. I downloaded some apk file Recovery Bootstrap v1.0.0.3 that i was told i needed to get but again...
I want or at least i think i want to get to 2.2 im currently still on the 2.1 build it shiped with. i have *228'd it or changed the firmware in any way all ive done is rooted it.
Im having issued with the data connection. My browser seems to hang a good 50-60% of the time wether im on my wireless g connection at home or on 3g. Ill listen to slacker radio and often it stops for sometime and either wont resume playback until ive closed and re-opend it or just does it on its own.
Ive heard of people getting roms on it but others tell me there not "real".
Also its "fluid'ness speed" seems to be jotty at times. I havent hardly installed much on this and its slows down really bad at times.
Basicly i like modding my phone and really enjoy all the work people put out to fully give us the full capability's of these pieces of hardware we buy. But i dont feel like im getting that.
What other suggestions can you all give me to do to my phone, to speed it up back it up remove this crapware like dlna ect. I have seen some threads about doing this but then people telling me they get stuck at the boot logo cause they messed something up and i dont really wanna do that.
What have you done with your phones? How well do they run?
Thanks for taking the time to read my post and i look forward to everyone's reply

Sorry to hear about your problems. I just went through a week of hell before being diagnosed with pneumonia this June. So I know how it felt.
Basically, even though 2.2 OTA is available, if you mess up your phone while modding, there is no stock image to fall back to, so you'll be stuck with a bricked phone.
The best solution right now is to upgrade to original 2.2 leak. Then you can install leaked 2.3.15 which is the same as OTA (with a difference of being deodexed and rooted). In this case even if you have problems, you can always flash original 2.1 back and start from scratch.
rootzwiki has a good amount of info on how to do all of this. But of course feel free to ask questions.

As a longtime blackberry user I finally bit the bullet and purchased my first android phone the ATRIX. After several days researching i got the nerve up to do some customization and unlock the bootloader and root the phone. After several days customizing I installed Rom manager and Rom Racers recovery. Then I decided it was time for a custom ROM. I have tried several and and currently running AURA 1.1.3 #8Debloat and loving it. Again thanks you guys for a awesome and informative site....and the search button is your best friend.

i'm personally very glad to see that you're enjoying your new Atrix. i was in the same boat as you, this is my first Android phone as well. i took the leap from an iphone 3g (yeah, i know... gimme a break alright?)
after about a week i tried to unlock my bootloader and ended up bricking my device (i now know i just screwed up and could have fixed it by using the fastboot oem unlock command... but i guess some lessons are harder to learn than others, right?)
after getting my Atrix replaced, had someone walk me through the process and now i'm just doing all the research i can. i've read pretty much every thread on the first 15-20 pages of every forum here
once again, really glad to see that you're enjoying your Atrix as much as we are enjoying ours, and feel free to share your experiences with the phone as you continue to customize it!
The beginners guide should be the first thing all newbies read.....walked me through everything ...the soft brick had me worried a lil but it was all covered in the guide...waiting patiently to try CM7 when they get all the bugs worked out...def loving AURA so far n he works very hard keeping everything updated

Good to see you had a ton of success, without even posting for help! You should be a poster child for the effectiveness of the noob guide at the top of the board. And for the search button.

I gave you a Thanks just because you figured it out all by yourself, without asking stupid questions. Winrar is you.
Especially, coming directly from Blackberry, it is impressive, as Atrix is kind of difficult to customize comparing to other phones.
Glad you are enjoying the phone. Cheerz.

You should do a Nandroid & try CM7 Pre-Beta 2, the only issues I'm having with it are:
1) no camera - doesn't fuss me
2) battery life is only OK
If you like Custom ROMs, im glad to say koush its working on atrix, at least is incorporating an atrix source to the cm7 github

Well the search button was definitely my friend...every question I had had already been answered and directions were very clear as to what to do. I have several backups so that is no problem but the no camera issue on CM7 is a problem for me, plus I am a heavy user so descent battery life is a must. This site is awesome!!!

CM7 on this beast is all i ever wanted, however I am personally holding off until the final release.
Can't wait to install the final CM7 without any bugs and glitches. Pure Android heaven.
Now recruiting everyone, and i mean everyone from devs, themers, rom porters, testers, everyday users, everyone that loves their old phone and wants to see the development live on.
The only requirement is to work toward the common goal of seeing our old HTC devices live on.
Team Legacy: Greasing the Wheels for HTC Android Legacy Devices.
We may not have the newest, spankiest devices, but by god we just wont quit.
If anyone can think up a logo or a new motto, please do.
Between the eris, the hero, and the heroc, we are all in this together.
I'm down for anything I can help with, primarily testing. I know my way around a build.prop and stuff like that, but I'm a beginner at theming and making roms. I'm willing to learn though. I have sitting in front of me right now the grand daddy of legacy HTC phones, the G1, Hero CDMA, Evo 4g, and my baby Galaxy Nexus
If anyone wants to buy my two Herocs for the effort pm me. They are also posted in the marketplace

were glad to have you on board sir. welcome to team legacy. we appreciate your being here and anything you can do to help out is greatly appreciated!
So whats the game plan? I've used most of those roms you've ported on my nexus before. Do you want to pick one and we can work together to get it running sweet on the hero.
I noticed that you're having having problems with the size of the task switcher windows in a few of your roms. You might want to check out the web os mods like this http://rootzwiki.com/topic/19142-mod-port-webcm9-04-webos-like-app-switcher-3912-cm9aokp/ . It should have only the code relating to the task switcher. I'm wondering if it's trying to use a too high a resolution for the hero.

i would say the biggest gameplan right now at the moment is aroma. with aroma we can make all devices work off one rom, which is a huge goal of mine, to bring all the roms i've ported to all the other older htc devices like the eris, g1, and hero.
im down for any kind of collaboration you would like. thanks for the tip about the webos task switcher, im taking a look at it right now and if it works ill throw it in all my ics roms and give you credit.
have anything particular in mind for more collaboration? we can only run so sweet lol until our edge is met, and that edge is hardware acceleration.
edit: im not having luck yet with the webos task switcher, ill keep looking at it
I just used aroma for the first time a couple of days ago on my evo 4g and I will never go near it again. I was flashing decks reloaded and it comes with aroma. I booted to twrp did my usual wipe everything 5 times. I started to flash the rom, aroma launched asked me what options I wanted, It flashed and said successful. I rebooted and it booted to the splash screen for about 10 secs vibrated rebooted to the splash screen, this repeats endlessly.
Now heres where it really screwed me. I can get to the bootloader and recovery, but aroma killed my USB connectivity and my access to my SD card. This has been reported as happening on Evo 4g's before( only when they first came out). The way to fix it is to enter some commands on a terminal emulator on the phone when its booted up. Or flash a radio update through bootloader (didnt work) Because aroma borked my rom install I can't boot into my rom or flash another because of my lack of SD card access and no ADB. My only option left is to flash a factory unrooted and locked factory image via a pc36img through the bootloader. Thats for a day when I'm feeling brave, If this persists through relocking and unrooting that phone is done.
I've flashed hundreds of roms, and rooted, unrooted and down some downright dangerous **** on my G1. I've never bricked a device before, bootloops, and borked recoveries sure. Aroma is dangerous, and I personally will never use it again.
I think the key is too slim down ICS as much as possible. Most of those Roms you ported are pretty fat( at least on my Nexus). Prolly taking cm9 and stripping it might be the best bet. Sometime this week end I'll download and start screwing around with one of them.
If you can find a Jellybean rom to port that might be where its really at. Project butter makes my Nexus crazy fast! I don't get any of the slow downs that I did in ICS.

wow i guess if i upgrade to an evo 4g like i planned i'll avoid aroma like the plague.
i've been working on slimming down my ics roms, i already have miui 4.0.4 slimmed down about as far as its gonna go without resizing pngs and such since im no good at that. i have an aokpwfs38 slim down ready also, i just havnt had the chance to post it.
if you would like, i need eligorom and cm9 slimmed, feel free to do that if you want.
also check out shelnutt's jb port. its pretty nice, a huge improvement over ics even on the heroc.
Would anyone be willing to swap my htc hero gsm for a htc hero cdma?
I'll join. I used to be a dev on SDX for the moment and the intercept. I've ported joyos 1.2.2 currently to the heroc.

hi,
I really don't know what to do..the only thing I want now is to throw this piece of **** out of my window and buy an iPhone.
I tried more then 5 different roms, many CM9(ICS) and now with CM10(JB- currently this one) and the same *ucking bugs occur at all of these versions
Buttons doesn't light up, camera freeze and crashed the *uck out of the phone, ringtones keeping messing up(ringtone for one contact working for other etc) I don't want and don't need fancy ICS or stupid JB, I JUST NEED THIS PHONE TO WORK.
Not crashing the camera when I need it the most, don't mix the ringtones, and the buttons to work all the time
I understand that you don't own me something, but please, I just don't know what to do, I wasted countless hours on recovering the apps and setting for each rom I tried, and I just don't know what to do.

first of all, please watch your language!
second of all, if the same bugs appear on all roms have you considered that your phone is faulty?
if you made sure the hardware works fine, i recommend you to start from scratch (flash 2.2.2 CEE/nordic SBF; root; install clockworkmod) and flash CM7.2 stable, thats the most stable and fastest rom for now on the defy, and this is with the most funcionality.

Whats the diffrant between bugs in ALL the roms or a phone hardware bug? if it ain't working it ain't working.
I know its the most stable and the fastest, but I'm 95% sure it have the same bugs I'm having(ringtones, buttons doesn't lit, camera crash).
I tried MIUI for change, but its only Gingerbread(?) and don't have my native language (Russian).
There is any other roms to try?
2 options

2 options:
1 - Install CM7.2 stable as @zakoo2 said rr MS2Ginger (suports RU language);
2- Throw your phone out the window and buy an iPhone.
so either pull yourself together, put a little effort and find a solution, or spend a load of money on a crappy, but nice looking phone, your choice.
first, wipe everything (data/cache/dalvik), then reflash a froyo sbf, then install cm7.2 stable.
there are plenty of guides for this in the general section.

Buy Iphone and dont bother ass. ICS and JB is nightly. Want stable tried stable,so easy. CM7 ist good
Please show me where it was solved my problem and many other people.
It has not been resolved, many people have hardware problems with the red lens
go to the development section. There you find a thread with the sbf you need. flash the sbf (link in the thread) and you got the stock rom.
then, the if you got the same errors with the stock rom, your hardware if faulty.

Hi there, well my second Defy is now close to death; hospital bills would be too much (to replace lcd, battery and the whole case) compared to the price I can find a new unit here [which is insanely low btw].
So that brings me with the following question: what should I ask the seller in order to make sure that I can install CM7 on it?
I mean, do I have to (how to) make sure the phone doesn't come with BL7 or something giving me headaches or a not fully functional CM7 later?
Would a screenshot of the bottom part of the "about phone" screen be enough for that? Or I am too worried and it will be fine no matter what OS is installed.
I'm sorry to ask such a noob questions, but it would be my first experience w a Defy+...
The seller says its phones come with routed 2.3.6 and strongly suggest not to delete any system apps or flash any custom roms...which is what makes me worried a little...
Anyhow, input would be greatly appreciated and Thank button will be hit...
Cheers,
/A

I've only had a Defy+ for a few weeks, and it's a BL7 model. I hit a hard learning curve coming from a Samsung Galaxy S, but in hindsight, BL7 is a really easy hurdle. Two SBF flashes and 2ndInit and you're done. Granted, I do not know if CM7 has its own quirks, but I used a rooted stock ROM for a while, and have settled in with the latest Slim, and both worked fine.
I wouldn't worry about what bootloader the phone you're looking at has.

Thanks,
I've seen and read about rooting BL7 before and I knew that this shouldn't be too problematic, but it is the specific CM7 compatibility part that I"m worried about. I remember seeing users saying that their camera (or something else that I do nor remember atm) was not working properly w BL7+CM7.
Because aside from that, I can say that I know CM7's quirks very well, there aren't too many of them (compared to ICS/JB) and I can live with them very well ;-p
ah, gotcha. maybe I should look back to CM7, too. It's kinda hard to see the balance between stability and being up-to-date.
thanks, too, for posting that attachment. I guess that was from a Defy promotion somewhere?
I've finally ordered my third Defy (1st plus) and should receive it shortly.
Those phones are supposedly what they call a 14-days return (i.e.: most probably grabbed from a large company order that got sacked for a certain un-booking fee), they claim 99% new and with a 1yr-warranty on parts...
Moving to a bigger screen/more ram device was tempting, but at ~65US$, the old faithful Defy is is still a very hard to beat bang for the buck if you ask me... :good:
- Flash support
- easy PDroid implementation
- old DroidWall still running the show
- I personally prefer Gingerbread over new OS (for now anyway... the low-ram device friendly KK is tempting though...)
The previous pic was just taken from the seller's site I bought it from... yes from a Motorola 'Defy on the beach' promo-type party I guess
I really like the silver accents (on/off, volume, cover lock and screws - see pics) of this version... it will also prevent me from pressing by mistake the usb cover by mistake... which happen quite often with my all black 525s...
And oh! have you tried Framaroot with your plus? I've read that it even works for BL7 roms... No sbf flashing, no USB connection or even a computer needed; just one an apk to install and a couple clicks and it's done...
So all my worries from above should be fine now I guess...
Within 5 minutes of unpacking will be: charging, Framaroot, SndInit, nandroid the stock rom, CM7, tweak zips, setting up, TB restorations and good to go!... Hopefully... :fingers-crossed:
Cheers,
/AL
Long live the Defy!
framaroot
My Defy +BL7 flashed and rooted several times.
Since Framaroot even more easy.
Have fun!
