Should Teamhacksung and Onecosmic join forces? - Galaxy S I9000 General

Hey guys,
Not sure what kind of reaction this will get but anyways...
There is 2 different versions of ICS going on right now in the development forum for the exact same rom.
Would it not make more sense or both parties to work together on one rom to improve it and make it more stable more quickly?
Maybe they both want to take it in different directions and work on things at different times. I dont know.
It just seems to me that if there was more experienced people that know how to do this kind of stuff all working on the one port and all having there own input into the rom it would make more sense?
What do you think?

They already do... Check the credits. There are just cm9 and aosp ics

I think CM = AOSP + many mods/tweaks.
It is not pure AOSP as released by google.

I don't think they should merge with each others. Speaking evolutionary, that would constrain innovations and improvement between two builds. Why do you think Lennon and McCartney worked separately?
Assist each others... that is alright. But join forces? That sounds unlikely to me.

and they should name the rom VOLTRON ICS =)

I think every android developer should work on cm9...
You happy now?
Please what is the point of this topic, let teamhacksung/onecosmic do what they want and be grateful for the great ROMs they provide us.

Cm9 is based on the Android Open Source Project ICS. Your question is kinda a loop.

HTC Releases Gingerbread Thunderbolt Kernel Source Code (2.6.35)

What does this mean for us average users?
http://www.htcdev.com/devcenter/downloads
Better custom kernels for one. Not that what we have is bad, but devs have a better base to build from rather than other device kernels and lots of tweaking to find what works.
Better kernels can mean better roms as far as overall performance and efficiency.
Nice
Luke
Now i'll really have to try a custom kernel. Be nice to have the stock kernel available to flash also.
Does this help AOSP development?

Don't know if it will make a huge difference, but at least I have more to work with. For general ROM development, at least it will mean a more solid base for all the changes that have been made using franken-kernels. Should bring about a lot of more stable releases.

Ics Possibilities

With cm9 already with us, how close are we to say, custom Ics roms, like say, a clean Ics build or something. Or are we still missing some vital components for this to happen.

CM9 and MIUI v4 will be it basically. They are already pure AOSP ROMs. What is more custom than that? There are a multitude of kernels to try with them and themes are being built on a regular basis now. Not sure what you are looking for. The only custom ROMs the epic had are based on Touchwiz and we are not getting official ICS to base ROMs off of.
The problem with basing on ICS is that you need to edit the source code and cm9 is already optimized enough. If you havent noticed, cm9 is a custom rom and IMHO the best one. It doesn't have touchwiz or bloatware or ciq so it doesnt need to be optimized, fixed, or cleaned.

I agree with other posts here. What more do we possibly need besides aosp cm9 and miui!? Lol. Its a treat that we're even seeing cm9 on our phone.

I don't know this is just my 2 cents but maybe he's asking what custom ICS stuff we can look forward to as far as customization...like in CM7 u can move the status bar to the bottom...in MIUI u can mix and match themes...control the CRT animation and some other visual and peformance things...there are a lot of spaceholders with options that haven't been implemented as of yet too

Once CM9 is out of its alpha stage and all the bugs and small tweaks are worked out and also once the devs get most of the upstream stuff i believe that we will see at best themes for CM9 but as it is now its in its "clean" state.
however i cant wait to start seeing themes come out for it i would love to learn how to theme CM9 i have some good ideas but still reading the how to's and working on my own CM7 theme lots of trial and error lol
It's not that I don't like cm9 or Don't already think ice cream sandwich is "perfect"( as is, far from it. This is the best experience I've pretty much had on my Epic. I just like seeing the variety and you guys' varied take on OS's as you've shown before. But yeah, it'll probably be a challenge cause of the almost perfect stableness.

AOKP.. Hm I wonder what features they strive to have or have that we don't already have..
It isn't AOKP per-say but CM9 is based on AOSP, and is in definition, "kanged" before it's a Release Candidate.. You could say we already have AOKP via our CM team. still interested on what advantages there'd be in having that in our Epic.

Android 4.1 Jellybean in AOSP

Google developer Jean-Baptiste Queru, also known as JBQ, has announced on Google Groups that they are now releasing the Android 4.1 Jelly Bean source code to Android Open Source Project (AOSP).
Jean-Baptiste Queru said:
We're releasing Android 4.1 in AOSP today.
The name of the tagged release is android-4.1.1_r1.
The name of the development branch is jb-dev.
We recommend that you create new clients, even if you're working in
the master branch. It'll make your clients smaller and faster to sync.
Proprietary binaries are available for Nexus 7 and Galaxy Nexus. Nexus

But the port is effectively a streamlined skin because we don't even have ICS yet, and that's because of NVidia/Motorola. Until all the required libs, etc., are released all anyone has is a themed GB!

No, I am serious......without NVidia playing ball we have no true ICS. You said it yourself.....not fully functional! We have pseudo ICS with features that don't work properly, and sub optimal OS. This isn't a slam against any dev. Just stating what I believe is fact. We had the kernels, etc., before any ICS porting started. We lack what the devs require for a true ICS OS.
So you can say its ICS but its crippled. That's why I say like a themed GB.
<edit> Simply put, we have a BMW with a Ford engine!

-> Implying that a BMW engine is better than Ford.
Anyway I get what you meant, but it's not fair to say that it's a themed GB, especially not fair to the devs that have worked so hard to get a working version. The only things that aren't working (at least for me) are HW Libs, Camera is a little jerky, and Browser rotation on most browsers. I think that's pretty good and can only get better once we get a finished kernel.

A small off topic, do you know that you can change version number in build.prop to whatever you want and then see it in About Phone?
I would think the devs would want to wait for proper ics kernel before starting jellybean, but you never know

New Roms to build

Hey there Vibrant users, I have finally gotten used to maintaining the DU rom, so if you guys want any new roms for the Vibrant that you want built, please post them here. I probably won't build any Jellybean roms unless I find them to be exceptionally well done, so try for KitKat roms.
An updated OmniROM would be nice. And I love your DU rom, thanks for that.
DU is actually based off of Omni, so pretty much all the features from Omni are in DU. I think that there are ports available from the Galaxy S dev forums, so you can try those if you want. I might build it if more people request it, but I generally look for ROMs that either have a lot features, or are extremely smooth/fast.
Oh yeah forgot about. There is a lot of ROMs for this phone, the vibrant will never die lol. Don't know if this can happen but maybe build/port the new Samsung touchwiz, I'm no dev just wondering if it can happen.
