Good day I just sold my xperia arc and planning to get the Xperia Arc s. i really like the xperia arc because i didnt have any problem with it except the crack on the housing which occurred twice. It was replaced twice by SE. I would want to get the Arc S because of the white housing which i really like. My question is, has anyone experienced a crack on their Xperia Arc S? I do not know if they have corrected the problem with the housing especially the one near the censor with the Xperia Arc S. Hope anyone could share
Until the moment it didn't have claims about this...
I have had no problems with the white housing yet.
Keith
I just hope that SE has really modified the ARC S housing this time.
My Arc S also fine
Several users have already posted they have no issues but I want to step in and comment anyway.
I work with social media at Sony Ericsson and see and hear a lot of different problems/stories and so far I have not seen one single user saying his or her arc S have cracked.
I heard that fixed case will be available in January for the old Arc, is that right or can we already get the fixed one for our old Arc, if it has the crack?
And where can I find a german statemant that it's handled under warranty?
In a Vodafone shop here in Germany they said the problem isn't known and I'd have to pay the ~100€ myself.

Hi Markus and welcome to XDA forums (if this is really you)
Have you heard anything for the original Arc? And what about it?
Do they use a reinforced replacement or the same ****ty plastic?
Thanks! I can promise it really is me.
Yes. We have made changes to improve the front cover on the phone. I don't work with repair myself and I don't know what exactly has been changed. I have just been informed that some changes have been made to make the cover better.
So if you have this crack on the front cover on Xperia arc, hand it in at a service centre together with the receipt and it should be handled within warranty.

Ok, gonna go to a service center in early January to get the new housing
Thanks for the information.
Do I need to reflash it and wipe my data or can I give it to repair with my data and custom stuff like DooMKernel?
Software stuff shouldn't void warranty on the case imo

No worries!
It's standard routine to flash each and every phone that comes in to a service center so I suggest you contact the local support team, have a word with them and ask if it can be done without this (and if some 'special treatment' is required to get it done).

Ok, thanks.
I ask them then and make a CWM backup before, just in case

I have just noticed a crack on my arc s white. But gutted really as I thought that the problem had been sorted. I will post pics another day, but it is the same as those seen on arc
That music player plus the track id is a brilliant mix!

Is there a specific place where everyone is seeing this crack? I just noticed I have one on my arc
EDIT: Nevermind, found my answer in the other thread about housing cracks.

Oh my! Just sold my Arc and bought an Arc S! I hope it's not true!!
...at which part of the ARC/ARC-s housing usually cracked? I saw mine does not have any, may be because of the color was black, so its hard to see, already several times falls especially in my car.... hmmm....
You should read the other thread here (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1144774) for more information. The crack is presumably a manufacturing defect, so it's not about whether you drop it or not. Though dropping it may quicken the process (just speculating though).
The most common place seems to be right above the proximity sensor (the first sensor to the left of the speaker on the front). Though I've also read about it near the volume rocker and on the corners of the phone.
Most of this is supposed to only apply to the original Arc, but from reading posts here it seems SE's fix apparently wasn't good enough.

I've been having problems with the battery cover since day one really and now...after being in use from christmas day i can no longer secure the battery cover so that it doesn't jump off.
I bought my X1 from expansys and as it was a christmas present although it arrived on the 4th december, like i said before i didn't actually use it until the 25th. Xpansys only has a 10 day returns policy so i doubt i can go with that option.
Do you think sony ericsson will repair/replace the phone? I don't really want to send it in for either but i don't see what choice i have...at the moment the battery is way too exposed and that will probably only lead to more problems! I am very disappointed as the rest of the phone is great...and if it gets replaced rather than repaired i stand the chance of developing 'the crack' issue which so far this unit doesn't show any signs of. Please advise me on what i should do. Thanks.
I believe SE has acknowledged this problem so you should be able to take the issue up with them.
do a search on your problem. i think many people might have had the same problem and fixed theirs by slightly bending the sides.

Yes i know this...but no amount of bending can fix my problem.
I rang the xperia support line and they sent me a new back cover out...fixed my problem. Fits so that now its difficult to get it of haha! However it was a little scratched so they are sending me another one out soon. Excellent service! Worth getting a replacement back cover if you have this problem.
LOL
my experience with them is not good..
i need to change
- battery cover ( faded )
- casing ( cracks )
My camera button is crazy
Keyboard is wierd
sigh
Best of luck mate....tell me when that keyboard gets better because mine is fcked too
My spacebar is quite unresponsive, have two cracks, and my slider is wobbly as well

Wobbly is standard and I am used to it. But the rest are unacceptable.
dadeadman, I am also Singaporean. Wanna go Service Centre or Small Claims Trbunal together? The SE support most likely won't give us much help. ALso, even if they did, the problems will come back again. I am really not fond of this crap.

So? HTC was making the phone for SE. Anyone else think that HTC was trying to mess with Sony Ericsson? All the delays even though a prototype was available very early on? And now after the phone is launched, so many problems.
Nah, the above is just pure speculation.

Small Claims Tribunal!? That's a little exaggerated, right? Doubt you're gonna get anything out of this. Ain't exactly illogical of them to be claiming any exterior physical defects to be due to wear & tear. After all, not everyone who bought the phone has gone back to them to complain. We're probably just the unlucky ones (my X1's more or less ok except for the wobbly slider and paint chips on the battery cover).
As for better service in other countries, well, think it all depends. After all, the service centre here is outsourced.

Went to the service centre (both Wisma and Junction 8) a couple of times with regards to the wobbliness and always got the same answer that it is normal. As for battery cover, got it replaced once cos of a 'hump' in the middle when I first got it, but even with the new cover, I'm still getting the paint peel. Am considering buying an extra battery cover.
what? they gave u a new one and it peels again???????
Just called up to see if I could get my phone replaced due to a crack in the handset and the guy said that the structural defect is not covered even though I have sent it back before with the same problem.. the thought it sounded a bit fishy so went onto the o2 website to find that they no longer sell the device most likely due to the poor build even though that was supposed to be fixed with the new model, this means that any one wanting to get there phone replaced by o2 will be sadly disappointed.
damn, sorry to hear that mate, looks like i got mine just in time
a few weeks back, i complained of the cracks in the case, got told i would be sent a refurbished one when they received my one back from me.
i never sent it, and received a new one anyway. got lucky!
if i were you i'd complain like hell- there must be something they can do?! money off line-rental, different phone to replace x1?
vodafone did the same thing months ago but i'd send to SE cause you know they will
I'm gona complain like hell just like you said and get them to give me a new phone.. I do like my xperia but its got a crack running from the volume buttons to the battery cover making it really loose so the cover falls off sometimes and last time I took it back was because the volume buttons stopped working due to a similar crack!
might see if i can get an iphone just because I know the built quality is sound..
once i got my phone replaced i sold it immediately, yoг should have done the same. A lot of people were replacing the phones several times, so that could not be forever. Operators do not want to lose money =))

when this happened to me at vodafone since they no longer buy the x1 they sent me about 6 xperias all of them used.... some even having cracks......
So you might end up getting a used one :S
yeah, the one i got was 'refurbished', but i honestly could not find a fault with it, no marks, no scratches, no sign of wear.
BUT there is a little rattle coming from inside when i shake the thing... but it works perfectly well

cool! i think all xperias have that its something to do with the sliding mechanism
Damn i just sent my X1 to voda due to it not charging or connecting via mini usb port.
I would like my broken X1 back so I can send it to SE rather than having a refurbed model.

It's the optical joystick, at least on mine, that makes that light rattle. The sliding mechanism is solid.
Most have got lucky, phoned O2 on Wednesday 02/09 as phone won't conenct to internet, got told to send it back and they would sort out a repair/replace, got home from work yesterday and they had delivered a replacement. If it is a re-furb it is immaculate. so up to yesterday they were still replacing them

cheers, my old xperia had that optical joystick rattle, this is something else, but hey like i said... works good
now i'm regretting getting the xperia even though i do love it, might wait for the x2... does anyone know if it's coming out on o2?
see if i worked at 02 i'd of seen what a disaster the x1 was with the cracks ect and how many times this device had to get sent back and selling the x2 would be a risk, a gamble because the x1 caused so many problems - vodafone and o2 both saw these problems and vodafone dont sell ANY windows mobile devices now either so...
waiting for the xperia x10 now, phone contract doesnt run out till June :/ hopefully some good phones will be out by then. Thinking that android may be the way forward but might go for a blackberry or maybe even the iphone 3gs we will see.
Can someone tell me whether or not this is OEM housing for the x10? i know it say OEM on it.. but you know.. lots of these china/hk seller claims it's OEM but it's really not ~ some stupid b**** ran into me today and sent my phone flying ~~ dented in the corner luckily my screen is not scratched ~ and it happened 2 days before my case arrives T_T
http://cgi.ebay.ca/OEM-Full-Housing...ewItem&pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item439ebeee70
It looks legit but mostly they are not real oem. If u need a replacement housing I would give it a try.
Well the name is spelled wrong in the listing. I mean if they cant get the spelling of the name right then I don't know lol..Small minor thing but hey everybody else can spell sony ericsson right why cant they lol
It looks good to me.. can't see any flaws....
(regarding the "Ericssion" spelling.. The i is next to the o on your keyboard.. so probably just sausage fingers!).
oh well i took the plunge and paid for it ~ i can't stand my phone flawed 50bux ~ blah
Q: Is this official OEM housing from Sony Ericsson? 30-Apr-10
A: Yes. Sony China OEM
Q: Hi dear. Im looking for the Original white housing for my white x10. This one pretty look the original but it has some differences. Like in the back and front doesn't have XPERIA tittle. If later you found the original one please let me know. Thank you 27-Apr-10
A: Hi, This is a OEM housing. And very cloesd to original. But the XPERIA need to stick on back cover. I could offer. Thanks

ya i saw that too.. well the phone is made in china after all so him saying SE china oem doesn't surprise me too much. the part i didn't understand was it say missing Sony Ericsson Xperia working i don't see it. coz if he's talking about the one on the screen.. then i think it comes with the digitizer not the case. i'll let you guys know when i get it and see whether it's oem or knockoff

Tell ya one thing for free!! The thought of changing the housing is one thing but removing the glass touch screen from it's original housing will take some very careful disassembly. It's very thin.. it's glass and it's stuck down with glue or strong tape. Flex it a little and you might be hunting for more than just the housing.
Dont Buy it.
Hey mate sorry to hear about your phone. When things look too good to be true it normally is. Its way too soon to have real housings for sale like this. Experience tells me that you will probably pay your money and never receive anything.
Just put ur x10 in your new protective case and try not to think of the damage underneath.

Looking at the sellers feedback you'll receive the case. However only time will tell if it is a real OEM one. I'm looking for a white case too (actually only the back part of the case) as I'm quite sure the glossy white housing will scratch pretty bad (looking at all those white iPhones out there).
After one month sony sat Stella in Madrid returns my xperia Arc by mail. They have repaired the crack near the sensor, but broken a lot of things:
- Dust in the screen under the cover, and glue marks.

http://imageshack.us/a/img5/3789/mg1041g.jpg
http://imageshack.us/a/img20/9369/mg1042g.jpg
- Earspeaker sound distorted
- I can´t see one of the two leds of the keys.
http://imageshack.us/a/img20/6620/mg1044z.jpg
- A bad tightened screw don´t let me close the battery cover properly.

nice. that just shows how many soppurt they got for our old devices.
i think i´ll stay away from sony from now. they´re producing more devices as they can handle to do good software updates. even in our updated 1.13 ICS release the notification led is not working and our device is over 2 years old now.
