Thank you for opening this page.
My A953 is a Europe device, and the version i use is MIUI-X1.12.2X (kenerl version is 2.6.32.9).
The problem is that the touch screen isn't accurate, when i touch position A , the device thinks i touched B, which is over A(upper half screen) or uner A(under half sereen). But the distance between A and B is very short , i can only notice it when i search the contects by touching the first-letter.
And there is a place on the lower right screen, which can't responce any touching.
This two problems also worked on CM7 nightly version which i used. But i can fix them by disable the mulititouch(doesn't work on miui..).
Would someone please help me ? Thanks a lot !(I'm sorry for my terrible English...)
All the defy based roms has a bad multitouch compare to cm7 "original" for milestone2 (tezet rom).

The kernel for the official gingerbread release still has the multitouch bug, are you experiencing this issue still?
Yes , because this issue is realated to the kernel, A2S is only a nandroid backup package.
With I experienced, if you put two finger on the screen with a short distance , MS2 will recognize them as one touch point(I notice this issue when i play Cut The Rope). But If you use froyo , you may not have this probelm
Yeah I know. Sucks to be you - I hope to never update to keep my options open. CH GB kernel all the way
My main touch problems were with FPS games, it'd switch between what touch point it thought was point "a" and point "b", so I'd end up getting stuck running against a wall until I'd pause and resume.
Hopefully when my phone is back from warranty repairs it'll still be on Froyo. They said it would be updated to the latest firmware, so for once being in the last thought of nation Australia will possibly pay off (we haven't gotten an update yet).
So, the only way to avoid touch bug is install the chiness gb sbf? I have tried almost all roms (endless cm7, tezet cm7, a2s, walter79 mod, miui) and all of them have touch bug.
My brother has a brand new razr, and it actually has the same touch bug (the same bug i experience with tezet cm, when playing games with two virtual sticks, after a minute or so touching the screen it goes a little funky, need to release the fingers or pause the game or turn off and on the screen.
Actually is a bit different than the old froyo touch bug, but a bug still.

I'm pretty sure that the actual games themself have some coding issues and mess up on there own accord from time to time with touch screen input, but the multitouch bug certainly makes a mild problem much worse. (basing this on reviews you see ferom people with other devices saying stuff like "touch controls are glitchy" etc etc, alo I've experienced the occasional glitch on shadowgun playing on my Sony Tablet S)
If you have updated to official gingerbread, you are stuck on a non-downgradable kernel that has the multitouch bug.
If you are still on froyo the current roms using the CH GB kernel (the one that doesn't have multitouch bug) are CM9, CM7 defy port from endless7, Argen2Stone. (ms2ginger and blurless too possibly)
MIUI and CM7 use froyo kernels and have the bug.

It's possible to Switch the UK Kernel to CH Kernel?
---------- Post added at 11:21 PM ---------- Previous post was at 11:13 PM ----------
The brazilian 2.3.6 kernel don't have this bug. If you upgraded for the GB Official, you can try the 2.3.6 brazilian...
No, certenly not. Because UK GB kernel is based on NEW BOOTLOADER , if you flash old chinese gb kernel or old froyo kernel ,you will get a black screen so you must flash the kernel that based on new BL.
The new chinese kernel is based on the new BL,too.(4.5.1-5)(I can't remember it clearly, it seems like this)
But the brazil 2.3.6 is based on the NEWER BL than UK or chinese new gb kernel. so never flash it.
Now the cm7 , cm9 , argen2stone , mokee os works on the new gb kernel well.

Yes, i know this, but i have flashed the 2.3.6 brazilian sbf. After this, i have flashed the Uk 2.3.4 and works... Why? If the brazilian BL is newer than UK BL? Why i don't have the black screen?
I thought anyone could flash the newer boot loader? It came out before the official update. It's just the kernel can't be changed once your on the UK GB kernel. Or at least that's as far as I'm aware.
For example, I could update my boot loader but still use the UK froyo kernel no worries, is what I mean.
Pretty swish at that brazilian kernel though, I've never looked into it since I never updated. So would he just be able to flash the BR kernel and see how that goes right?

Actually im coming from endless defy port and has the same touch bug that im facing with tezet's rom. I dont know maybe is some kind of hardware failure, or touch screen drivers poorly coded by moto. Im testing this issue with this game: Cartoon Wars: Gunner+ from Zenonia.
Playing this game with a Samsung Galaxy S2 doesnt have this weird multitouch bug. As i said, it happens just after using the multitouch from some time (maybe one minute more or less).
Playing with a Moto Razr has this bug (another moto, coincidence?). Maybe is the way the game handle the multitouch that is one way or another not compatible with moto kernels.
My point is, that in all of the m2 roms there are multitouch bugs (annoying in some roms, less annoying in others) and that is not a rom failure, thats moto's fail.
As i have said, i have used almost all the custom roms ( i havent flashed yet any of the GB sbf so im still safe XD) and in all of the i have multitouch issues.
I guess we have to deal with it, thanks Moto XD
And sorry for my very poor english.

Sorry for may terrible english again. I am sorry that i can't understand your word " My main touch problems were with FPS games, it'd switch between what touch point it thought was point "a" and point "b", so I'd end up getting stuck running against a wall until I'd pause and resume. " although i have used google translate.
Now i list the touching bugs i have found.(a bit angry, why the words will be all deleted if i press del key after shift or alt key?)
1. When charging(especially via usb or chargers which have little current output), if you touch the screen without your body touching with the metal on the ms2 , the touch point will "fly" to all the screen(i have tried to play Talking Tom at that time, it was funny and crazy...)(this issue is mostly on froyo. and will be better if you flash cm7)
2. After you slide out the keyboard, for me, i will put my two fingers on my left hands on the metal around the screen. Sometimes when i slide the webpages with my right hand's fingers, the webpages will be zoomed automaticly.(only on official gb rom whatever uk or ch)
3. As i said yesterday, ms2 won't recognize you when you put two fingers with a short distance.(uk 2.3.4 kernel i haven'5 tset on the new chinese gb kernel)
4. Sometimes when i play fruit naja ,the ms2 won't response to my touching. I have to retouch and then works normally. I don't know how and when this issue will happen ,but in the multi touch test, i don't get this issue.
5. When i play dragon hunter2, sometimes i both touch the vitrual d-pad and the attack button and the d-pad will turn to the attack button.(i only test it on ch froyo official rom)
6. The same as my post, if you flash the miui(i flash the one by DoubleX from gfan), there will be a little square on the right-down screen with none touching response. And the whole screen isn't accurate.
7. ...... to be continue....
I think the best touching experience is from froyo uk rom. And the bugs are mainly caused by the metal around the screnn(i didn't get these issues on the defy and the touching on the defy is very very very nice)
Sent from my A953 using XDA App
I didn't try it myself, i only heard it on Gfan. If you downgrade successfully, it means the chinese new gb kernel, the europe gb kernel and the brazil kernel are all bsed on BL=6
Sent from my A953 using XDA App
@rasecrmz
Perhaps this issue is more-so related to the OMAP SOC used in these devices. If you know anyone with a galaxy s (1), see if they have the same issue. Then we know whether it's specifically those games having the issue with the hardware + drivers (and not with moto) or if it's only while on a moto device
The galaxy s uses an sgx540 while MS2 use a sgx530 (as I recall anyway). So pretty similar hardware inside. RAZR also uses sgx540.
@ mkyybx
I mean: My left thumb will be pressing the left side of the screen. My right thumb will be pressing the right side of the screen. Somehow it thinks they swap around, although they do not. The controls of the game I'm playing then fail.
That's pretty vague but it will hopefully translate better .
It would be ok. To lock the BL stronger , moto have updated the bl version. Because the new bl will only apccept the sbf file that have moto official signed. I tried to push all the uk 2.3.4 rom files to the UK froyo official rom by the update.zip , but i failed because of the probem with the signature.
Chinese old gb kernel (4.5.3-77(109)) is based on old bl

Yes, i think like you. I don't updated my BL. It's the same: 70.12. The kernel is the problem. But, if i sucessfully downgraded 2.3.6 Br to 2.3.4 UK, i can flash the CH 2.3.4, right?
You could try, but I'd be confident to make a wager it wouldn't work ;D

We are able to boot custom kernels now!
Anyway... this is the first release of the fully working custom kernel (flashable via xRecovery). I haven't had much time to work on it so it's kind of proof-of-concept. Tested for 48h without any problem (not even a reboot).
FreeKernel-alpha1:
http://www.mediafire.com/?d8v914keiqsmc3n
This is the alpha version of custom 2.6.29 kernel based on the SE sources. I do not plan to work on this release anymore - it is just for testing purpose. From today on I'll start to port SE stuff to the latest (GBread) kernel.
Changes:
- removed 32 fps cap
- implemented netfilter (Droid wall, native USB/wifi tethering etc.)
- undervolted to 0.950mV to save battery
- don't remember what else I did, I bet something nasty
- super ugly boot logo!
Requirements:
- baseband .52 + the relevant kernel
- clean 2.1 ROM, compatibile with .52 baseband (e.g. .504)
- working xRecovery
Please note I am not responsible for any damage this software may cause to your device! Use it at your own risk!
There is absolutely no support for this alpha release!

So, if you want to test this new kernel, please keep in mind it is only compatible with stock 2.1 firmwares (.504 and above) that are compatible with baseband 52.
It is only for testing purposes, and any feedback for this alpha kernel is purely for the benefit of others, Z is not and will not be supporting this version, do not expect it to be ready for daily use!
Please post your results and how you get on with the kernel.
Video of FreeKernel

does anyone know how to embed it?
I tested the kernel on baseband .46 on TripNMIUI 0.3.2, and the removal of the FPS cap is incredible, the phone is so much smoother and fluid it is unbelievable - it is like having a new phone. I noticed the screen feels a lot more responsive aswell!.
Obviously it is not at all compatible with the ROM, there is no radio and there are frequent reboots, but just a taster in terms of things to come
Apologies for the poor video, but I think its enough to get the general gist of the smoothness
Tried custom kernel just for kicks on trips miui 3.2...bb 54 and up super unstable no network/wifi tons of reboots....
bb 52 and bb49 no network but wifi IS working no sd card mount though
gonna test other roms aswell....
For install custom kernel to be need xrec by Z not from flashtool.
All works, clean install bb 2.0.46 and 2.0.A.0.504.
Dont problems.
I done back to my custom rom way xrec and flashed the patch bb.49, nothing problem.
cheers
this will not work on bb .46 i have tried and failed. no network at all. have tried on several roms... only eternity roms are working on this kernel on bb .52....
supposedly it is suppose to work with bb .49 have not tested on this bb so i cant say for sure.
guaranteed on .52 build 504...
results on quadrant show fps cap has been removed.
overclock is not possible but undervolting is
colors have not yet changed but should upon release of other custom kernels

You can't brick it as you only flash some files to the system, and you should still be able to access xrecovery if it bootloops
THIS IS ONLY USABLE WITH STOCK 2.1 ON. 52 BASEBAND!!!
This is a test kernel not meant as anything more than a proof of concept. There is absolutely no reason to flash this unless you are personally working on making your own custom kernels. This kernel is not even an alpha release, it will never be developed or supported. If you choose to flash it just to toy around don't whine about functionality.
When custom kernels are available anything the hardware is capable of and drivers can be written for will be possible. Everyone needs to calm down and quit asking the same questions over and over.

No. Z posted it in the bootloader cracking thread. This is only meant for stock 2.1 FW on. 49-.52 BB and is not functional for daily use. This is only meant as a test if you want a stable new kernel its still going to take a little while.

It won't work with any ROM 100% - its just designed for testing, you won't be able to use it for daily use yet.
If you just want to try it out, its possible it will boot up on freex10 and you will see the effects of not having a FPS cap - but it is unlikely the majority of things will work, like radio etc. as it is meant for stock 2.1 roms.
If you do want to try it, make a backup on xrecovery first
I dont know what you have xD
What do you mean with "its not ready for dayly use" ?
I use it now since yesterday afternoon and everything works perfect!
I had no random reboots and everything is very smooth!
My Battery lost 1 % with stable 1 Ghz (playing around and testing).
So not be scared! flash it!

As in its only supported by the stock 2.1 ROM, and if you run into any problems with it, its not being supported so you won't get a fix

Hi friends.
First, I want to praise this forum ... that is fantastic!
My question is about the currently ROMs for my milestone 2...
I want to flash my ML2 with another ROM, to get a better experience with the battery life...
What ROM is the better choice?
- Argen2Stone 2.7
- CM7
- TIM Retail 2.3.6
- MIUI 2
- Others.... ?
Thanks again guys!
I test all these roms, personally I prefer CM7 of Tezet + the update of Endless7
Lose the video recording at 720p, but it works great.!!
It depend on your version of MS2. I have problems with gps in cyanogen's rom, so i'am using ms2ginger 2.1. It's perfect, everything's working, but it have shorter battery life. My friend have older revision of MS2, he had serious problems with keyboard and multitouch, but Endless7 cm7 runs perfectly on his phone.

After this I apply "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"

But, the phone doesn't boot... the screen stay black and nothing happends....

May sound stupid, but allthough the milestone 2 and droid to appear to be the same phone, they are not the same phone.
Main difference is one is cdma (no sim - droid 2) and other is gsm (has a simcard - milestone2)
No method will ever get a droid 2 rom working on your milestone 2.
EDIT:
(moved to start of rant) If you have upgraded to the official gingerbread you can only use CM9, CM7(endless7), argen2stone. Just the ones with the GB kernel.
But as for other roms all roms, the choices are:
CM9: Not finished but quite stable now and a great look into ICS certainly work having a try of it. Uses GB kernel so no multitouch bug.
CM7 (tezet version): Stable, good, fast, has multitouch bug due to froyo kernel
CM7 (endless7 version/defy port): Not much difference from tezet version, but some added bells and whistles. Also uses the CH gingerbread kernel, so no multitouch bug and better touch response. I'd recommend this version personally, but it's all a matter of opinion. Also both versions show all market apps regardless of compatibility - can be handy if you wanna take advantage of a great sale knowing you can just use it when it is patched for your device or you upgrade. Or if you can tweak some stuff enough to trick it into working.
MIUI: Simply wonderful. Most stable one i have used. At first i hated the iphone likeness of it - but you can install a custom launcher if you wish. I got used to it though and ended up loving it once I tuned it to how i liked it - 1 screen with several folders and a clock widget the themes are great. It also uses the froyo kernel, so unfortunately has the multitouch bug. So i had to leave it
Argen2Stone: Pretty close to stock so if you liked the stock firmware but not it's slowness you will probably like this. Simply wasn't for me but for the time i used it, it was quite stable. Uses the CH gingerbread kernel though, so no multi touch bug here too . OH and is one of the few that has 720p video recording working I think.
I can't really remember ms2ginger and i have never tried blurless, so I won't comment on them.
Moral of the story, you can count the amount of roms we have available on you hand so why not get them all, and try them 1 day at a time?
They are all great roms and far better than stock was, so you can't really go wrong. No one here can possibly tell you what you like so you will just have to test them yourself soon enough and find out

+1 me too great works of tezet and endless7
ive used Argen2Stone 2.7 ..its a really good rom.
now im using CM9 by tezet.
My vote goes for tezet's CM7, because I like more that clean CM7 than endless' mod.
i think CM7 of Tezet is the best.
I'm voting for MIUI - but I understand if someone don't like it due to it's quite bad touch responsiveness.
I want to shar my experience with you. I used all the rom you listed except "tim retail 2.3.6".
I'm now using A2S and UK 2.3.4 kernel. It has the perfect experience whatever daily use or game playing. But it has the shorter battery life(the same as cm7 or may be a little longer).
I often got reboot when i using cm7 especially when i entering games.
MIUI has the different style from other android roms. It also based on cm kernel, if you are boring with the original android UI ,you may try this rom. But this rom has the shortest battery life even less than CM7, and has the slow reflex when you have incall.
Sorry for my terrible English.

CM7 for me.. even if it doesn't have 720p recording it is battery friendly.. i like argen2stone but the only thing i dont like on this rom is blur UI.. they should have remove the UI because it eats too much ram >.<
I recently saw the article for the ability to install cwm recovery to our phones system partition via the Xperia CWM Auto Installer app:
https://market.android.com/details?id=com.pvy.CWMinstaler
I am currently running the latest kernel from DoomLord, which I love but I wanted to know if there would be any advantages to using the above app over the custom kernel? And also if I use the app would it be safer to flash back to stock kernel, and alos wondering I thought I saw at one time a tweaked stock R800x kernel 2.3.3 that was modified to allow overclocking? Anyway if I do decide to give the above app a shot I was thinking of flashing the modified stock kernel (but I cannot find it anymore, unless I missed it somewhere on XDA) and then using the above app. Mostly just wanting people feedback and whether or not between the two which one would be better performance, and if someone can point me to the thread for the modified stock 2.3.3 kernel that would be fantastic.
Not to thread jack: Wasn't the app released just the same as the boot CWM with just touch support? Wasn't sure if there was a huge difference between the two programs.
As for your question regarding the stock kernel, highest the kernel itself will support is 1024Mhz; might have to throw on some racing stripe decals to make it go faster. I haven't seen any modified-stock kernels to be honest, just DoomLords.

I thought I saw somewhere here on XDA for the xperia plays that there was a cdma modified kernel running 2.3.3 that had been modified to overclock. I am aware that the stock kernel is locked at the 1ghz. Thats 2 reasons why I am using DoomLords kernel, 1 for the overclock and 2 for the recovery. Just wonderinf if there would be any benefit to a stock modified kernel to allow overclock and teh xperia auto installer rather then the custom kernel?
I'm working on a modified stick kernel with kerianftw's help... Right now I'm working on adding cwm into it, and add soon as that's fine and I test it out (it'll probably take a week or so of testing)
Please don't ask for an ETA, because I am a busy man, as soon as I get it done & the bugs out, I'll post it.
I'm not sure if there will be that big of a difference because Doom v10 is pretty awesome...

If you're looking for speed (which I would love to be able to overclock too) then you should definitely consider using Cola's rom, or the one I'm using (IT-ROM [R800X]) ... I'm almost certain you will not be disappointed, my phone is now running much smoother/faster, no problems at all. Wifi, sms, 3g, phone, everything up and running without any hassle.
Good luck
Ok, so I had to get a new phone after a failed OTA update, that the ATT Service Center knew nothing about.... yes the 4.5.141 update. I had Alien #4 on my phone before and I am looking for something else, just to try (yes i was rooted, ROMed, and unlocked and they just handed me a new phone). I didnt have any issues with Alien, just want to try something different. I would like to install the CM7, but I use my fingerprint scanner. I searched the main CM7 thread to see if it has been fixed and there were no returns. So, if CM7 has a working fingerprint scanner, i would install that... otherwise, what would you suggest?
Currently running: android ver 2.3.4 system version 4.5.91 baseband N_01.77.30P Kernel 2.6.32.9
I plan on rooting and ROMing this weekend!
I'm not super up-to-date with what all the ROMs have, but I don't think very many have the finger print scanner working, so if that's important to you stick with Alien. Otherwise, I'm currently on Jokersax's ICS CM9 and loving it! Its looking great and is getting better updates almost daily. Definitely something to look at, if you interested in ICS at least. MIUI also finally got official support and is getting weekly updates, so that's something to look in to a bit too.
Good luck with whatever you choose, there really is no wrong choice when it comes to the awesome developers in these forums!

CM7 Weekly has Fingerprint
There's also Neutrino based off of the weekly and also has it.
I recommend using neutrino as it has a bunch of performance mods.
There's also acerbix CM9 FP builds but I don't think they're finished yet.
All the ROMS except CM9 and CM7 nightly have FP unlock working. I'm using it on CM7 weekly.
Ok I should have also said to add links, lol. I did notice an issue with the Alien that i did not think was an issue.... its slow to boot. The stock phone boots in i would say 30-45 seconds, Alien would boot 90-120. ....So that being said, I wish for a ROM to have a faster boot then the Alien.

CM7 or a ROM based off CM7 (e.g., Neutrino). Faster than stock.
Hi, I've been looking through the forums and have been rather overwhelmed by the number of roms available at this point.
Things have come a very long way since I first rooted the phone months ago, and I haven't kept up to date with development recently.
I would love to test out multiple different roms on the L3 to find the best, but it's actually my girlfriends phone and she hates me "messing" with the phone too much, and as you must know, rom shootouts can take hours of flashing and testing. (I used to spend a lot of time doing this on my old motorola defy)
This is obviously a matter of opinion, but could I get any guidance on what would be the most STABLE and LAG FREE rom for this device?
Features are not an issue, this is just down to stability. The current setup on this device is an SDmerge stock based rom (cannot remember which as it's been a while) and there has been a lot of hangs and reboots. (I mean a LOT, rebooting about 3 or more times a day)
These are two roms that I've been looking at as standing out from the crowd, so comparisons from people who've used both would be awesome.
Any better suggestions are also obviously welcome:
Latte ~ lightweight + LG UI 3.2
MiniCM9 UNOFFICIAL for L3 E400
Hopefully, if enough good material is posted in the thread, I will create a rundown of fast, stable roms for this device with links.
Thanks to all the devs for their work on this device, with particular mention to Gellmar for his work on SDmerge and custom kernel. You, sir are a genius!
MiniCM9.
Or if you want 2.3.6, plain stock version + SDmerge: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250759

Latte v2 for me
MiniCM9 for me.
Or Jelly cast v6 RII.
gellmar created 2 specified recovery.img for each cm9 sdmerge and stock sdmerge. but some roms contain this recoverys and some others is not. so normal cwm can fully working with sdmerge rom? and what thing gellmar changed in his recovery/ any can answer me. thanks
So it seems that Mini CM9 is a good one.
We installed Latte, but after about a day it started to noticeably hang and lag, with more than one reboot.
It was a clean install (wipe of user data, cache, davlik etc.) so the install wasn't the issue.
Mini CM9 worked well, but a few apps struggled to access the camera correctly. Namely: Snapchat which returns a green screen when trying to take a photo.
Currently running this: Cyanoid Rom
Which seems to work well, but as it is based on CM9 it carries the same issue regarding Snapchat and some other apps.
Is anyone aware of a fix for this camera issue?
Aside from that, I'd recommend the rom linked above, as much as MiniCM9. Seems stable, and feature rich.

Nope, all CM9 ROMs are affected. Green screen is also in Google Goggles. And Skype video-calling doesn't work, but works on 2.3.6 ROMs.

Is this to do with the kernels interaction with the camera?
Or could it maybe be fixed by replacing camera app, or editing build.prop?
Would be great if someone could shine some light
Most Stable with a great SDmerge support is Cyanoid, because we realize 2 different versions, one for NOn-sdmerge devices and one edited for Sdmerge devices, with some improvements, and NOT just a step 4 copy/paste into zip, the differences flashing a rom and then step 4 or flashing a Sdmerge designed rom is the stability of it and its speed, you can choose the rom u want, because each one have its different features
In my opinion every stock 2.3.6 Rom is stable ...in ics time most stable I used is mini cm9 ....but I use stock ROM cuz camera quality is better any one know how improve cm9 camera????

Camera 360 takes much better images than the stock CM9 camera.
And I'm experiencing so much slowdown, and a tonne of reboots on stock,
Is this a common issue? Any fix to recommend?
In my opinion I'll opt out for Cyanoid. It's the far most the perfect one with awesome features. So, you could just give it a shot. I've using it for a couple of months now. And other one of the best ROM is RayogenMod. It's also pretty good. I've tried out both of them..
