[Q] In your opinion, most stable L3 SDmerge rom? - Optimus L3, L5, L7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, I've been looking through the forums and have been rather overwhelmed by the number of roms available at this point.
Things have come a very long way since I first rooted the phone months ago, and I haven't kept up to date with development recently.
I would love to test out multiple different roms on the L3 to find the best, but it's actually my girlfriends phone and she hates me "messing" with the phone too much, and as you must know, rom shootouts can take hours of flashing and testing. (I used to spend a lot of time doing this on my old motorola defy)
This is obviously a matter of opinion, but could I get any guidance on what would be the most STABLE and LAG FREE rom for this device?
Features are not an issue, this is just down to stability. The current setup on this device is an SDmerge stock based rom (cannot remember which as it's been a while) and there has been a lot of hangs and reboots. (I mean a LOT, rebooting about 3 or more times a day)
These are two roms that I've been looking at as standing out from the crowd, so comparisons from people who've used both would be awesome.
Any better suggestions are also obviously welcome:
Latte ~ lightweight + LG UI 3.2
MiniCM9 UNOFFICIAL for L3 E400
Hopefully, if enough good material is posted in the thread, I will create a rundown of fast, stable roms for this device with links.
Thanks to all the devs for their work on this device, with particular mention to Gellmar for his work on SDmerge and custom kernel. You, sir are a genius!

MiniCM9.
Or if you want 2.3.6, plain stock version + SDmerge: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2250759
See also http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2326340

Latte v2 for me

MiniCM9 for me.
Or Jelly cast v6 RII.

gellmar created 2 specified recovery.img for each cm9 sdmerge and stock sdmerge. but some roms contain this recoverys and some others is not. so normal cwm can fully working with sdmerge rom? and what thing gellmar changed in his recovery/ any can answer me. thanks

So it seems that Mini CM9 is a good one.
We installed Latte, but after about a day it started to noticeably hang and lag, with more than one reboot.
It was a clean install (wipe of user data, cache, davlik etc.) so the install wasn't the issue.
Mini CM9 worked well, but a few apps struggled to access the camera correctly. Namely: Snapchat which returns a green screen when trying to take a photo.
Currently running this: Cyanoid Rom
Which seems to work well, but as it is based on CM9 it carries the same issue regarding Snapchat and some other apps.
Is anyone aware of a fix for this camera issue?
Aside from that, I'd recommend the rom linked above, as much as MiniCM9. Seems stable, and feature rich.

Nope, all CM9 ROMs are affected. Green screen is also in Google Goggles. And Skype video-calling doesn't work, but works on 2.3.6 ROMs.

Is this to do with the kernels interaction with the camera?
Or could it maybe be fixed by replacing camera app, or editing build.prop?
Would be great if someone could shine some light

Most Stable with a great SDmerge support is Cyanoid, because we realize 2 different versions, one for NOn-sdmerge devices and one edited for Sdmerge devices, with some improvements, and NOT just a step 4 copy/paste into zip, the differences flashing a rom and then step 4 or flashing a Sdmerge designed rom is the stability of it and its speed, you can choose the rom u want, because each one have its different features

In my opinion every stock 2.3.6 Rom is stable ...in ics time most stable I used is mini cm9 ....but I use stock ROM cuz camera quality is better any one know how improve cm9 camera????

Camera 360 takes much better images than the stock CM9 camera.
And I'm experiencing so much slowdown, and a tonne of reboots on stock,
Is this a common issue? Any fix to recommend?

In my opinion I'll opt out for Cyanoid. It's the far most the perfect one with awesome features. So, you could just give it a shot. I've using it for a couple of months now. And other one of the best ROM is RayogenMod. It's also pretty good. I've tried out both of them..

Best rom at the moment?

Hi!
Im thinking about install a new rom to my phone but cant decide which...
I want a rom with so small bugs thats possible but still some features that makes the phone better
I installed this Clockwork Recovery for a pretty long time ago and dont remember what it do
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1044585
So I wounder if I need it or just can remove it?
And if I gonna install a new rom, which Recovery is the best at the moment?
Would be very thankfull if somone with more experience could tell me their opinion!
My prefer is void. (2.2.2; #eridanus) by Noejn.
Install Perfect Recovery 4.0.0.5 and try yourself all ROMS.
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
Okey will try that rom and recovery
But if im not happy with the rom can I then change back to the orginal?
IF you take a backup with recovery yes,!
Sent from my u8800 using XDA App
At the moment definitely VOID 2.2.2 latest
What makes void so great? Dec got rid if his phone so no more updates. Might as well use something that'll get new fw updates..
I believe that Oxygen is the best Rom at the moment. Miui is very good as well, but with Oxygen battery life is amazing (more than 40h, with wifi and BT on all the time) and it's got most things sorted.

It maybe so, but at least camera is fully functional.
So, which ROM would you suggest overall? Fully fuctional, acceptable battery life, speed etc. I'm with B137 v8.2 and I feel I need something new.
FYI, I usually clock the cpu to 1Ghz or 1,2Ghz.
then go for the v8.4 & his new kernel
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-3177723-1-1.html
http://bbs.goapk.com/thread-3423090-1-1.html
this is the most stable rom atm with good performance. other roms are faster but some things dont work or they are not stable.
your choice.

how do you know that is. good Rom. did you tested it already? so is a room like void with Android 2. 2. 2
i use this rom for almost 2 months now. from v7 i think.
i never ever had a fc reboot etc (except 1 time i had the cpu at 1.5ghz).
everything is working fine, the only small problem lies in the modified franco kernel genokolar used (he modified it to be even more stable),
it has some problems on charging (franco's kernel had them also as i have read, i dont know if its fixed on his newest version cause the modified one is 1 version older than 20 july one).
(u can avoid that problem the kernel creates by not flashing the kernel and keeping v8.4 kernel).
here is a link that i have uploaded both 3
http://www.megaupload.com/?d=V99GYVBN
dont forget to install superuser from market or root will not work without it (as everywhere else also).
for the ones that want performance its not the best out there but its still a good one.
i get 24xx at quadrant at 1.3ghz when this void user gets the same at 1.5ghz but i get lower on antutu (3018, made a 2nd run and scored 3167 if it matters) propably cause of the 0.2gz less cpu speed http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=15978575&postcount=326
but this oxygen user gets allot more than me on 1.3ghz http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=16303582&postcount=391
(i have also 1.2gb worth of apps installed if this matters)
the good thing this rom has is stability and everything works, from what i read most other roms have things not working, bugs and not that great stability, miui is a VERY good rom also (has its small bugs) cause its based on 2.3.5 but i dont like miui style ^^ (personal opinion).
oh i forgot to mention that its totally stock (except 1 small app with reboot, shutdown etc options).
i made some changes please re-read my answer

thanks for help.
yeah its for the u8800H also as i can remember. you can keep a backup and if you dont like you can go back anytime...
oh and flash works just fine, i dont see any reason not working.
there is a new miui version that came out before an hour, try it first cause you maybe like it better (since i see you already have miui).

Thank you very much. I have flashed your uploaded three files and would like to confirm that this v8.4 is the best ROM for u8800 nowadays. BTW, since the original ROM is from China, I do hope to have your help to keep update this ROM whenever there is a new version or any changes.
no problem, i can keep you updated, at least until Genokolar decides to put his work here.
tried the v8.4 from Genokolar on my UK Huawei U8800 and it didn't work kept looping at the start screen, so I went back to using the FLB Custom ROM

[Q] Best choice for custom ROM

Hi friends.
First, I want to praise this forum ... that is fantastic!
My question is about the currently ROMs for my milestone 2...
I want to flash my ML2 with another ROM, to get a better experience with the battery life...
What ROM is the better choice?
- Argen2Stone 2.7
- CM7
- TIM Retail 2.3.6
- MIUI 2
- Others.... ?
Thanks again guys!
I test all these roms, personally I prefer CM7 of Tezet + the update of Endless7
Lose the video recording at 720p, but it works great.!!
It depend on your version of MS2. I have problems with gps in cyanogen's rom, so i'am using ms2ginger 2.1. It's perfect, everything's working, but it have shorter battery life. My friend have older revision of MS2, he had serious problems with keyboard and multitouch, but Endless7 cm7 runs perfectly on his phone.

YES!
+1 for that rom .
It's pity, there's no Endless7's update for latest Tezet's CM7
Guys, I tried flash my phone with CM7 times ago....
I first flash the SO with "update-cm-7.1.0-DROID2WE-signed.zip"
After this I apply "gapps-gb-20110828-signed.zip"
All using Bootmenu.
But, the phone doesn't boot... the screen stay black and nothing happends....
After this, I recovery to 2.2 TIM RETAIL...
Can you post a link with a better tutorial for me?
Thanks!

May sound stupid, but allthough the milestone 2 and droid to appear to be the same phone, they are not the same phone.
Main difference is one is cdma (no sim - droid 2) and other is gsm (has a simcard - milestone2)
No method will ever get a droid 2 rom working on your milestone 2.
EDIT:
(moved to start of rant) If you have upgraded to the official gingerbread you can only use CM9, CM7(endless7), argen2stone. Just the ones with the GB kernel.
But as for other roms all roms, the choices are:
CM9: Not finished but quite stable now and a great look into ICS certainly work having a try of it. Uses GB kernel so no multitouch bug.
CM7 (tezet version): Stable, good, fast, has multitouch bug due to froyo kernel
CM7 (endless7 version/defy port): Not much difference from tezet version, but some added bells and whistles. Also uses the CH gingerbread kernel, so no multitouch bug and better touch response. I'd recommend this version personally, but it's all a matter of opinion. Also both versions show all market apps regardless of compatibility - can be handy if you wanna take advantage of a great sale knowing you can just use it when it is patched for your device or you upgrade. Or if you can tweak some stuff enough to trick it into working.
MIUI: Simply wonderful. Most stable one i have used. At first i hated the iphone likeness of it - but you can install a custom launcher if you wish. I got used to it though and ended up loving it once I tuned it to how i liked it - 1 screen with several folders and a clock widget the themes are great. It also uses the froyo kernel, so unfortunately has the multitouch bug. So i had to leave it
Argen2Stone: Pretty close to stock so if you liked the stock firmware but not it's slowness you will probably like this. Simply wasn't for me but for the time i used it, it was quite stable. Uses the CH gingerbread kernel though, so no multi touch bug here too . OH and is one of the few that has 720p video recording working I think.
I can't really remember ms2ginger and i have never tried blurless, so I won't comment on them.
Moral of the story, you can count the amount of roms we have available on you hand so why not get them all, and try them 1 day at a time?
They are all great roms and far better than stock was, so you can't really go wrong. No one here can possibly tell you what you like so you will just have to test them yourself soon enough and find out

+1 me too great works of tezet and endless7
ive used Argen2Stone 2.7 ..its a really good rom.
now im using CM9 by tezet.
My vote goes for tezet's CM7, because I like more that clean CM7 than endless' mod.
i think CM7 of Tezet is the best.
I'm voting for MIUI - but I understand if someone don't like it due to it's quite bad touch responsiveness.
I want to shar my experience with you. I used all the rom you listed except "tim retail 2.3.6".
I'm now using A2S and UK 2.3.4 kernel. It has the perfect experience whatever daily use or game playing. But it has the shorter battery life(the same as cm7 or may be a little longer).
I often got reboot when i using cm7 especially when i entering games.
MIUI has the different style from other android roms. It also based on cm kernel, if you are boring with the original android UI ,you may try this rom. But this rom has the shortest battery life even less than CM7, and has the slow reflex when you have incall.
Sorry for my terrible English.
Sent from my A953 using XDA App
CM7 for me.. even if it doesn't have 720p recording it is battery friendly.. i like argen2stone but the only thing i dont like on this rom is blur UI.. they should have remove the UI because it eats too much ram >.<

[Q] Lightweight and stable ROM for Defy+

Hey Folks,
after playing around a while mainly with CyanogenMod 10 built by Quarx,
I was dissatisfied with the stability and especially the speed of the Defy+.
After using an oldschool mobile for the last weeks I decided I might give the Defy one more chance (missing GoogleMail and Contacts).
I wondered whether I can expect a major speed boost in using for example CyanogenMod 7 or any other rom.
Also stability is important to me, as I experienced reboots and connection issues with CM10
So I realy don't need to many features, just a fast stable android.
(I believe a clean Android could totally satisfy these points, but I cant live with that bloated Motorola version..)
Do you have any recommendations/experience which other roms might meet my wishes?
Thanks in advance
Either CM7 or MS2Ginger should satisfy your needs. CM9 isn't that bad as well.

I also experience major stability and speed issues with CM 10.2 (Android 4.3) by Quarx.
Telephony API crashes a lot wish always requires a reboot.
Or the phone somehow loses the SIM card and i have to enter the PIN again before the phone becomes usable again.
I'm not sure if I did something wrong during the flashing process, or if it just 'normal' like that.
In any case, my Nexus4 was stolen in the Gym and I need a stable replacement phone for a few weeks!
Ordered the N5 yesterday, but who knows when it will _really_ ship.

I've falshed the Cm9 from Cm10.2.
My phone was blocked at the motorola logo.
Then i've flashed the CM 10 (Android 4.1.2) and after some attempts my phone restore.
Is there something different with CM9?
Maybe i've made a mistake with the CM9 file?
i would like to try to test stability and performance.

I suggest you to try the version 10....is much more stable and performing
My suggestion is to test the latest Mokee
I'm on Mokee 4.2.2 right now (4.3 is not stable). I'm loving it; fairly stable and slightly faster than CM 10.1. But the Telephony issue is still there; there's no cure for it, unfortunately.
If stability as well as speed are important to you, give WIUI 3.1.27 a try. I used it for a few days, was blazing fast! But moved on as i can't live with gingerbread.

[Q] Defy 525 - looking for solid rom?

a long time ago i had a stock defy. i sold it and now i just bought one again. yeah!
i am looking for a solid and tough phone for outdoor/sports/festivals/catproof and so the decision to buy one was easy.
for business i use a htc one s with custom rom and so i started looking for a custom rom for the defy. seems not so easy. i found a lot of roms but the more i found the more it confused me. at least i need this phone to be stable, not too slow and long running (=no bugs). cm7 seems to be perfect, ecxept the RIL bug.
any suggestions which rom i should take a look at?
whould it be easier to stay stock and just root?

Uhm.. I think CM10.2's battery life is draining quite faster than MIUI ( I had MIUI like 4-5 months ago.. so.. ).
Quarx's work is awesome, this is a quite stable rom:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702
I have a wifi problem with the last version, but it seems that I am the only one, so you cold try and see if it suits you
Try one of quarx CM ROMs (10,10.1 or 10.2), or SlimROM.
If u need bluetooth, use CM 10 from quarx, because it's the only one that has working bluetooth from the JB ROM's (or any other CM10 quarx based ROM).
for me CM7 is the more stable and quick (WIUI GB is nice too)
CM10 works fine also, but a bit slower than GB
so if you don't really need android 4 go for CM7/WIUI GB, or the other CM7 based depending of your taste !

Can you please tell me wich 10.2 build version are you using?
I have green lens but in any of the 10.2 I have tried, works the video recording on my defy.
I do enjoy installing new roms, patches, updates but right now I am on an 10.1 CM version because of that.
I read that a mokee 4.3 version and a 4.3 (from Quarx thread) are working like a charm but I can not find the right one.
I will apreciate any help.

[Q] Most stable Defy ROM?

Im giving away my Defy to my brother, who is not good at ROM hacking thus I want to install him a ROM that is as stable as possible. I've installed one of Quarx's 4.3 ROM to it (2 months ago), but after a few days it refused to boot (guess it was the data corruption bug). So I wiped everything, now it has stock 2.2 ROM.
Any recommendations on a newer ROM, that has as few issues as possible?

Do not install Slimbean for someone who doesn't flash his phone. Slimbean uses a customized version of the playstore, which means that the playstore won't work if google updates it.
There's nothing like CM7 for stability. I thought 4.1.2 was robust but it's starting to behave strangely after a couple of weeks of use.

Is Slimybean based on Quarx's 4.3 ROM? Cause that has several bugs - one of them is, that a partition gets corrupted rendering the phone unable to boot.
Is there a buglist for Slimbean 4.3.1?

Check the link for sources. If you mean Master Quarx's kernel, then yes. But if you want to use another one in JB, your choises are very limited..
This build is too an unofficial port, so only Slim-parts can be called stable, to be more accurate.

Changelog stable build 2
If you have time, you should test these suggested GB and JB builds.

Good point, but correct and incorrect.
Google Play Store 4.4.22 still working fine. It shouldn't be a problem to replace or manually update it to the latest 4.5.10.
Just download com.android.vending-4.5.10.apk and install the update.

Bottom line is, the playstore has a convenient auto update feature which Slimroms disables. His brother would have to go to slimroms.net to download further playstore updates. Besides, Slimroms.net could stop supporting the ROM at any time and he would be "stuck" with an outdated playstore. It would work but he would have to pass on any new features or fixes. That's something to consider.
Second thing to consider, every ROM is based on Quarx ROMs. This means that every custom ROM is likely to have Quarx's bugs AND the bugs of the cutomized ROM.
4.3 performs well but it is not 100% functional. I've read they had troubles with bluetooth and I found that some options don't work (adding APN for instance).
4.1.2 is mostly functional but it's not 100% stable. I had several reboots on a fresh install.
Epsylon's latest 4.0.4 is still a good pick. I just installed it and it performs better than JB on Kingdom Rush (it stuttered, crashed and reboot on JB and worked flawlessly on ICS!)
CM7.2 is awesome in every aspects BUT it doesn't have HWA, which means he won't be able to use some of the latest app. Of course, it doesn't mean much since the Defy is not very powerful. But there are some good HWA only apps that still work on the Defy.
I'll say Xperia D3.4 for Defy/Defy+ based on Quarx's CM10 (20130117). It's fast, clutter free, and stable. A very good music player, stable camera, and lots of other addons. Battery life is also not bad.
Because AndroidOS is a chopped/adapted Linux for every hardware (it doesn't contain large drivers library for space economy) is per se a not very stable OS. Even the original firmware isn't "very" stable so the various kind of mods is unstable either. Every mod ROMs is made to cover some aspects and for this cause you must pick the most appropriate for your needs. For beginner try to accomodate with original firmware first, after that try a CM7.x and if you wanna adventure pick a JB or a KK mod. Enjoy.
