How to Defeat T Mobile Data Throttling on HD2 Running WP7? - HD2 Windows Phone 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting an

This is really annoying. T Mobile advertises this plan as "unlimited data". Which come to find out really means you have access to the full capability of their network only up to 100 MB (for our plan), and then they throttle it back to EDGE (2G)...WTF T Mobile?? Really?? EDGE??
Needless to say this sucks! I've done a brief search, but only threads that come up are Android related.
Has anyone been able to figure out how to defeat T Mobile's data throttling for an HD2 running Mango?

I Have 5GB of High Speed So I Really It Really Dont Matter Because I Never Make It Close To 5GB and I use Internet 24/7. Mostly Mobile Website.

point is no way around it, just get a large plan if you want more speed.

It's a carrier-side throttle. You can't bypass it.

Why would anyone want to help you commit fraud?
You're paying for a service, and the service dictates you receive up to 100mb of full-speed. If you're using more than that, improve your service. Don't come to XDA whining and Q-Qing and asking people to help you commit fraud.
You shouldn't be posting useless drivel here.

this most likley will get no help but ill try anyways

i used google to find out we would need a modifyed services.jar and to rebuilt it without the throttle text but this was from vzw thread so i would think maybe tmobile does server side throttle but i used special things to get free net on them with iphone years ago so idk
but i had tmobile for 7+years used to be 30$ for 2g edge data a month
now it seems in effort to keep charging me the same amount my plan 55$ would need another 25$ upgrade to get i think 4gb 3g 4g speed a month
not fair at all i would like maybe 1 gb of 3g data on my hd2 100mb sucks and ps i kept my data off and no mms and turned it to 2g only and tmobile still said i had used the 100mb 3g in the first day so you know i would apprechiate this alot
i dont care if someone just hacked the file to give me 1gb and nothing more id be happy cause i feel like im getting schooled having to pay so much for data makes me angry i used to pay 80$ a month for this exact plan 5 years ago on my sda mda and my wing i had this cool clear front sony erricson back then anyways
i just think 100mb is a slap in the face i cant get craigslist to even load on my hd2 without waiting 20secs
and i wanted to get a 2nd simcard for my streak7 but if i have to drop 25$more a month just for data on a cellphone then id need to dump another 45$ just for a data plan for the streak for 2gb a month so if anyone has any info this would help me alot cause because of this ive never experianced 3g 4g speeds on any tmobile device i just cant aford the data charges

In Germany T-Mobile offers multisim. You can use up to 3 simcards/devices with the same plan and you just pay once for it ( or even free at special events). Do not know if they offer this in the USA.

T-Mobile 3g

Im sure most peeps know this but tmobile does in if fact throttle your 3g service if you go over 10mb here is the text I got today.
(Free T-Mobile msg: Your usage has reached the data threshold for your rate plan this month. Your speed has been reduced for the rest of this billing cycle.)
Anyway just FYI in case people didnt know.i called and argued about paying 30 bucks a month to be throttled down.they said when u go over you switch from 3g to edge.thanks ping33tx

it's 10gb not 10mb. and that's a reasonable limit before throttling. there are other threads on this as well.
Does this count for downloading 10mb apps and stuff? I have not been throttled down and thought this was only a myth...10gb is a lot to go through a month for me anyway though

this has been discussed thoroughly in other threads....
but, basically, you are still receiving the product (unlimited web access, which is the same cost even if there isn't 3g in your area), just at a slower speed. a lot of cable and dsl companies do the same thing and their networks aren't as impacted by heavy bandwidth usage.
The dumb part is 10gig's isn't much anymore, some apps/games download 80-100 megs worth of stuff.
Not only that but last I checked the Samsung Vibrant comes with mobile TV app does it not?
So whats the point of having apps that are going to eat up data, are only good when they have 3g and we only have 10gigs or use or that?
It makes me sick every time I see ATT's dumb as use our internet commercial and don't state it's a 250 meg and 2.5 gig plans.
Tmobile isn't very far from being in the same boat because they give you a phone with mobitv and advertise the screen and playing movies and then expect you to not use it (and the data cell line to it) to stream videos/movies/shows?
Same thing for Win7, etc..
ALL these phones now are capable of pulling 100's of gigs of data in a month, yet they want us to accept a neutered phone with only 10 gigs of worthy access at descent speeds.
And no edge isn't worthy, might as well not have a data connection for anything other than checking email or getting tweets because it's way to slow.
So either go back to selling just dumb phones, or they need to expect people to be using more data.
I just don't see the point in living in this internet data based world and having all these damn cell phone companies refuse to allow us to enjoy it by not offering a true unlimited internet 3g connection to our phones.
And it's not the data pipe, or the usage thats a bull**** argument because the following companies offer unlimited internet through cell towers for laptops/home computers verizon/virgin mobile/sprint and sprint offers unlimited 3g to their 4g phones.
So no it's not about them "coping" with us the evil eaters of all the bandwith. If that was the case nobody, not one company could offer true unlimited 3g/4g but it is out there just not for the vast majority of the companies/options and you have zero options if you are GSM only like me which sucks.
I think 10gb is very far considering at&t gives you 2gb for 25 and then charges you more if you go over that

Yes and I could offer to chop off only a pinky instead of your whole hand so thats better as well right?
Don't think so, if the cell companies want to make use of the airwaves that are limited, they should be forced to offer a unlimited internet package on all their services.
Same for home phone companies, if they want to offer phone service they need to offer dsl to all their customers, and have a unlimited package.
It's just tiring to see commercial after commercial showing this and that on the internet and you have to go to virgin mobile to be able to get unlimited 3g for a home connection. And they only charge me 10 bucks more than the cost for the internet on my phone.
So no I don't think it's to unreasonable to ask for unlimited 3g on my vibrant when you consider I pay about 80 bucks a month, and I use about less than 1 hour of talk time, only a few hundred text so the only real thing they are providing me in quantity for 80 bucks is internet and they can't even do that "right".
Honestly it hardly effects me because I don't have 3g where I live, but I do travel to 3g areas so I don't want to have that slow down.
I got a message telling me my connection was throttled as well. Problem is I haven't been using my phone. I checked my usage on the t-mobile website and it claimed my phone used a gigabyte while I was sleeping. At various points my phone seems to do a few hundred megabytes at random. This has been happening the last few days, which corresponds to the time that the gmail application stopped syncing on my phone. Is this a common problem?
Virgin Mobile/Sprint is giving unlimited 3G away for a few reasons
- Subscriber additions
- Underused EV-DO network (soon to be overloaded with unlimited usage+Evo/Epic; it's already happening) There isn't enough bandwidth to go around. Two people streaming YouTube constantly is enough to bring your overall data through put below 1Mbps where it was probably 2Mbps before.
- Subscriber additions, Sprint is hurting for them.
Very well spoken thats been my whole point to start with

5 gig limit and tethering, i work for tmobile

ok, so i work for tmobile and i spoke to the tmobile vice president yesterday when he came in for a visit, and yes its true, the 5 gig limit to data service will be applied, once you go over 5 gig you will be throttled down to edge connection until your following month and also tethering will now be available as a feature which will cost 15 dollars a month, this will all go official real soon, so everyone who has been tethering on the side, sorry
What do you mean by that last line?

This is worse news for me by far. I tether only now-and-then, but I do use it, and I'd hate to have to pay extra for the few times I do...even though, yes, other carriers currently charge.
This sucks! Well they are a business so I understand them charging for tethering but changing the cap to 5gb is pointless since tethering requires 15 bucks a month extra...

I wonder if this applies to nexus one owners. I have had tethering for months on my nexus one have never neared the data cap. Why would I start paying monthly for a feature that I can get for free on my nexus one or for a 1 time fee from the app market for my G2?
Pretty sure that when I signed up for service, I signed up for unlimited data and when I bought my phone, it advertised HSPA+ speeds. So if my phone can only do HSPA+ speeds for a while and T-Mobile wants to try to act like the internet is a depleteable resource. I will be returning my phone and cancelling all of my family's lines and finding a new carrier.

Any of those carriers you switch to will have an even more expensive tethering fee. Best thing to do at this point is to root. I use my nexus when I want to wifi tether.

It sounds good and all but be sure to compare. Tmobile has a "fair" usage clause. They base what is fair usage on what the average data usage across the network is or something very similar to that. They never charge more for going over the cap, they just slow you down.
I'm guessing that they will make the tethering official and roll out the OTA at the same time.

The majority of smartphone users likely don't crest 5GB usage. Those who do continue to have unlimited access at a slower speed. If this is unacceptable to them, they are free to terminate their accounts. As a moderate dataplan user, I'm perfectly fine with that, since in an unlimited scheme, moderate users are basically subsidizing the few outlier heavy users.
I was fine with the 5gb reduction too but charging another 15/month on the "unlimited data" plan to tether? 45/month seems excessive. Need some new perspective.
the cap is for web connect data plans, not for the unlimited plans connected to cell phones

You do realize that once there are no more heavy outliers, you become the heavy outlier. When T-Mobile lowers the cap again to below your data usage, I guarantee you'll be the first to complain.

Iphone tethering is only 10$.. I dont beleive it til i see it. Im thinking it will be free but just capped at 5gb before they throttle to stop people from abusing it

are you saying the 5GB cap will apply to customers on contract (and grandfathered customers free of contract) as well as prepaid customers? - the way that news release is worded, it appears to only apply or refer to prepaid customers.

There will always be heavy outliers in a chart of users (whether in 1990, 2010 or 2100). The important question is whether the bar is above or below the average. Realistically speaking the bulk of those exceeding 5GB are probably tethering (I don't actually agree that tethering should be separate from the phone access, but that's a different discussion), so with the $15 tethering fee it might move the curve back even further under 5GB.
Well, I just checked my month use on t-mobile's website and looks like i only used 1.7 GB for the whole month. Not bad since most of my heavy downloading is done through my residential internet connection anyways. I don't think that I'll ever reach 5GB..
I'm not worried.
Can they just knock us off from a 10gig soft cap to a 5gig? Isn't there a grandfather clause kinda thing?
Besides, how would they know if i tether using pdanet. My data usage doesn't reflect how its being used.

T-Mobile is becoming a Horrible Service

I'm not sure if anyone else has experienced this "T-Mobile cap your bandwidth speed after 500mb on Unlimited Plan" but I feel their going to loose a few customers for this. How do other tmobile customers feel about this????

It's not 500MB. It's 5GB. Big difference. Tmobile rep told you wrong and you shouldn't have been capped at 1.8GB. If they really capped it at 500MB it would make a smartphone worthless.
I found it a little ludicrous to but apparently they did cap it because I have decent signal and my internet it slow as hell. Oh yea they also sent me a message saying that i used to much data!!!!
Yeah it's 5GB, not MB...HUGE difference. Unless you are using the T-Zones hack...THEN it is indeed 500MB, and to which I say suck it up.
Then take your service to att where they will be very happy to charge you for using more than 2gb of data, but don't worry... It will be full speed!

ME: I received a text message from customer care sating that :"Due to the amount of data you have used this billing cycle, your data speed will be slowed for the remainder of the cycle" I havent found anywhere in my contract that says i have a limit on the amount of data i can transfer before i hit some kind of penalty. I have an unlimited data useage plan...
~Marrianne W: You do have unlimited data on your account. What has happened it that due to the data you have used already during this month. When you try to access more data, it is just going to be slower, then it was at the beginning of the month.
~Marrianne W: Once your new bill cycle start, which is on the 20th of the month. It will be faster to download again.
ME: right, I'm not seeing anywhere in my contract that says my data speed will be slowed if i use over a certain amount of data
~Marrianne W: I do regret that you were not informed of this before.
ME: I am a databse developer and I am on the move all the time. part of the reason i got the phone and plan i did was so that i would be able to upload and download databases as needed while i am out of th eoffice
ME: what is this data useage limit that i am required to stay under to keep my connection speed?
ME: and where can i find this in my contract?
~Marrianne W: Once you reach 5GB then the speed slows down.
~Marrianne W: This is for everyone that has the data on their account.
ME: and there is no separate plan to remove this cap?
~Marrianne W: I do regret that there is now other data plan that is available to remove the cap.
~Marrianne W: All the unlimited data plan have a cap on them..
ME: so in actuality, you can download/upload as much as you want, as long as you dont break 5GB, then you are slowed to <60Kbps and you can barely browse the web...?
~Marrianne W: That is what happens. There are so many people using this. That we need to slow the downloads, for customer the customer that use it a lot.
~Marrianne W: I do apologize for any inconvience this may cause you.
ME: it would make far more sense to a) tell the customers this, and b) offer a separate plan for X $'s more to remove the cap. All that is happening now is that customers like myself that HAVE to use a mobile data connection now have to turn to an alternative provider.
Totally awesome I tell ya.
Dude, we have all known about this for at least a month, it's been talked to death. If you don't like it, then switch to another carrier, which all have caps at 2GB mind you, and they all also have MUCH more expensive unlimited plans.
I don't mind the 5gb cap. but I do mind the poor reception I been getting from T-mobile in Los Angeles.

Are you using your phone as a wireless router for internet service?
Ashasaur- i'm not using T-zones I'm on the unlimited plan, well the supposed to be unlimited bull plan.
djdanska- the point is they should inform me that the plan is limited before signing a 2 year contract for $30 dollars that they claim is unlimited. I would of preferred not paying anything at all than paying $30 a month for 2gb!!!! After 2gb the internet is useless if your paying for it!!
mechanix619- Sometimes but that is not the point I had less than 2gb for the month!!!
These phone providers are straight pimping their consumers. Plain and simple if they claim that the heavy users are bogging down their system well give us the rest of our damn money back, don't take our money if you can't commit.
I don't know about you all but 2gb of data is nothing for what our smartphones were meant for. The services alone on most of the applications we use stay running constantly. I might as well move to simple mobile where I get everything in one for $60 compared to $30 dollars extra for 2gb of data. Of course i'm expecting simple mobile internet to be slower but guess what I'm not paying for it.
Seriously, YOU STILL HAVE UNLIMITED DATA. Why don't you people understand this? T-Mobile has done NOTHING WRONG IN LIMITING YOUR SPEED. IF THEY CUT YOU OFF COMPLETELY BECAUSE YOU GO OVER THE CAP THEN YES THEY ARE IN THE WRONG. Unlimited data DOES NOT mean you will always recieve 3G speeds, it simply means that you have unlimited access to mobile internet service.

Ok first of all they did do something wrong they cap my internet before 2gb. Secondly do you think it's worth paying $30 dollars for 2gb of data? Yes I do understand that the internet is not off but only the speed has been cut. But have you tried doing anything at 60kb?
Up to my darn Pandora software don't even run good on it, damn thing stop every second. I'm just saying wouldn't limited sound much better then unlimited?? The way they use unlimited is a lie because the internet is limited. Lets say even if you wanted to, do you know how long it will take to go over another 3gb going at 60kb? FOREVER!!!!

The data cap has been in your contract since the day you signed it.
I quote T-Mobiles Terms of Use:
We(T-Mobile) reserve the right to at any time limit a persons access to mobile internet services(TDMA, GPRS, EDGE, 3G, 4G) in accordance with their contract. These limits may include(s); Lower bandwith, lower overall data speeds, limited access at peak hours of service etc.
Seriously, go and read your contract and the TOS. It's all in there.

It's in the contract, as posted above.
You haven't had an issue in the past because t-mo has always been crazy linient in regards to data services.
I can only assume their towers are getting gangraped between the HD7 and the 4G/G2 recently.

FOREVER!!!!

If they cut you off at less than 2GB I would call Customer service and find out why when they have it published that you get throttled at 5GB. Escalate that **** up the chain of command if you have to. they shouldn't be capping you at 2GB. I would be pissed too.
I was sold unlimited access to the internet. That is how t-mobile explained it to me. Them slowing down my speed doesn't matter. I still have unlimited access to the internet. I have never heard t-mobile EVER mention having unlimited speed, and i've been with them since the voicestream days. They never made any guarantee of speed for your entire bill cycle. So, im going to still have to disagree on it being limited.

While i don't like, but understand the speed limiting, i do think it may lead to more. If they can slow down my speed to whatever they limit it to, how hard would it be for them to have tiers, like how comcast does? Do you want 3 meg internet? 8 meg internet? 21 meg internet? Is that where this throttling thing may end up like? Different caps for different tiers? If i was talking about att, i would guarantee they would do it in a heartbeat, but would tmobile do something like that?
edit: I too was throttled today on my tmo dell mini netbook. Quick change of the apn and im back to full speed again! epc.tmobile.com can be throttled but apparently the old voicestream apn of internet2.voicestream.com doesn't yet. So, if your throttled, change your apn to internet2.voicestream.com and see if its better for you. If you do that on a phone and keep it that way, you will most likely need to mess with the mms settings because they are different with the internet2 apn. I could never get them to send with that apn.

Maybe they're throttling the speed, but have you changed roms recently or anything special. You can always call your provider to ask them about the speed.
From what i hear, their unlimited data is capped to 1gb?.... the is what kept me from switching lol.
From what i hear is it is indeed unlimitied data. I think the Simple Mobile $60 plan used to be for 1GB of data but recently got changed to unlimited data.
The current plan is indeed unlimited but if you are caught deviating from the terms of use (i.e tethering, downloading torrents and files from peer to peer) they will either restrict your data or disconnect it.
If you use the data for your phone it is truly unlimited.
You should check with their customer care, I work for T-Mobile and I remember reading something about how they can add a throttle feature and you have to call to have it removed. It won't drop off when the bill cycle switches.

I too am in the same boat, I did change ROM, and suddenly my data got very slow. I called simple mobile to check if I was getting throttled or anything, they told me I was not getting throttled.
It's puzzling me what might be the reason for this, is this because I changed a ROM?
i called them and complained about slow data speed, agent just "rebooted" my account and speed went back

Dude! Same thing here and I haven't done anything!
To me it started happening like last Friday or since Thursday.
My speed is like 0.18 down.
I restored a nandroid and still same thing, I switched to another rom, and still same thing >:S

My phone gets "Throttled down" around the 15th as I go over 5gig worth of data...and paying 39.99 for Unlimited Data...WTF?!
I am facing the same issue on Simplemobile. I do some (light weight) tethering to browse my emails etc.
Suddenly last week (Mar 15, 2011) my phone internet speed reduced drastically. Most webpages pages started timing out. Internet basically becomes unusable.
I am start of my billing cycle and have only used 200MB of data. I have never exceeded 1GB in a month.
The only reason I moved to simpleMobile was so that I could use the 'unlimited' data plan.
What to do now? I guess time to move on to other more welcoming providers ?
I was trying to see how much data i could use up before simple mobile decided to throttle down or interrupt my data services so I started watching a lot videos on youtube, movies and i even did some light tethering. So a couple days ago after I hit the 2GB mark my internet slowed down to a crawl.
I still have the H icon but the internet is very slow, I've called them 4 times; they have restarted my data services more than once but it's still slow so today they just created a ticket with their technical support team and the rep said they'd call me withing a couple of days. So let's just wait and see.
Using speedtest.net app, I'm seeing between 1.50mbps-2.70mbps SOMEtimes in the 3.00mbps range. Most I've gotten since I rooted was 3.96mbps and upload is usually always around 1.30mbps. Is this normal for 3G? I don't remember what my results were pre root, but I think I was getting at least 5mbps download. Also I updated to the latest froyo 7.15 blah blah radio, and I see no difference. Supposedly your supposed to get better service and faster 3G. That's not the case for me. Seems the same as always. I'm not using simple im using tmobile us epc.tmobile.com since it was checked on default
Same here. As soon as I hit 2 gb my speed went down. I was listening Pandora, watching YOUTUBE, now I have to wait 2-3 minutes for just for google search page to load! It is complete BS - UNLIMITED, dah?!! Let's all of us who experience problems just file BBB complains under FALSE advertising.
I flashed back to the older radio that the stock slide uses. I get better speeds on it.
This morning I received a text from Simple:
Your Simple Mobile Data service is at risk of being suspended due to violation of terms and conditions.

I checked my account and saw that I had used just over 2gb worth of data. I began the plan (firs time doing unlimited, had just bought an android and killed H2o's(at the time) 50mb limit in 2 days) on the 9th of this month (18 days ago) and was absolutely thrilled at my new Android + Simple experience.
I rooted a G1 I bought and will admit I tethered. I enjoyed bragging about my Android feeding my Chumby, netbook and my girlfriends Phone and how "I *WAS* the internet". This seriously damaged my droid ego.
It was the first month having it and I did do some pretty heavy compared to what I would normally do downloading so I think I can get by on the measly 2gb of bandwidth you get but I don't want to get stuck at the slow speed I've heard mentioned before.
Am I doomed? If it's like this I'd rather go with H2o's 50 plan since it has better coverage and the picture messages are unlimited, not taken out of the 100mb bandwidth. IF it's an unwritten rule not to go over 2gb I can deal, 3 would be friggin perfect though.
Simple Mobile New 2G "unlimited" plan
Have been using Simple Mob for a while with their $60 plan, in June I went abroad, and since they do not have roaming, decided to move to the $50 plan. Now I’m back, and while away they changed the $50 plan from 100 Mb to “2G unlimited”….that is just insane. 2G might be good enough for IM, chatting, and nothing else, and doing that you will never go beyond 100MB, unless you have the patience to wait forever for pictures lo download when surfing any web site.
Now I’m stuck until my new cycle, which will start in 20 days!!! I have called to complain, and they aren’t willing to do anything. At least they should refund me $10 since I can’t use their lousy 2G, and that’s what costs to have Voice + Text, well that didn’t work either.
Arguments were: “we are trying to give our customers the best value for their money….and if you have an AT&T phone you can’t get 3G, so that’s why we created this plan”….. Well that wasn’t a creation, that was an unfair modification, IMO. Very disappointed, with their lack of willingness to help.

What there not telling you (prob because they have no clue) is that the 2g plan falls under the "throttled" profiles on the epc apn (slotted throttling to hold you near 50kbps)
edge @ ~<300kbps is technically 2.5g tech (to simple that is)... cs and pr forget to mention that
wow what the hell???????? i have a sidekick 4g rooted and on custom rom gingerbread clone v2 and my speedtest is download: 0.12mbps upload: 0.14mbps... thats bull... everytime i try to watch youtube off wifi on my data it lags and freezes all the time.. it takes like 10mins to watch a 2 min video... is there a way to fix that????
Possible reason for slow data speeds on Simple Mobile
Seems like this is an older thread but on the same topic that has yet to have an answer or solution.
Since I've come into the same problem, I thought I would repost what I found out today on this topic.
Finally spoke to someone at Simple Mobile tech support that was able to tell me something that makes sense. At least in my case and it may be the issue for others as well.
I switched my SIM from a Verizon Motorola Droid 2 Global, that only supports EDGE / 2G connection to a Tmobile Sidekick 4G. Which is considered a Samsung Galaxy S 4G.
Well the problem is that it connects at 4G and since I am on the $40, when it does try to connect to the towers I am not authorized for 4G, so it automatically throttles me to 119..
He suggested I toggle 4G off and connect 3G and I should get full speeds... My problem now is that this phone doesn't have an option or toggle, that I know of to test.
Perhaps someone else that knows how to toggle a SK4G could give me a hint or someone could put this to the test on their, it would help the rest of us resolve this mystery.

AT&T seeks to settle

There are other news media reporting the same story, it will be interesting to see if AT&T will stick to their guns and continue throttling us. I realize there have been other threads discussing this topic but I felt this story deserves it's own thread.
AT&T is offering to discuss a settlement with an iPhone user who won a small-claims case that alleged the company was slowing down his "unlimited" data service

I see them back in court soon, (them being AT&T).
Now they will throttle at 3GB which effectively renders the unlimited plan null and void and puts everyone with "unlimited" on the 3GB plan!
Nice to see the wee guy win for a change!
Eff phone companies. Greedy whores.

It is kinda bullsh*t that those of us with unlimited plans do get throttled (Though i have yet to breach my limit... don't often use that much data when i'm out and about)... but i think it's even worse that phone service providers charge extra for tethering. If you ask me, any data plan should come with SOME data allowance for tethering.... say.... if you have the 3GB data plan, maybe allow somewhere around 1-2GB of data that's ONLY for tethering alongside that 3GB mobile data allowance. So you'd have 3GB to use on the go if you're doing stuff on your phone, but have that little extra to use if you're doing something more bandwidth intensive that the phone itself isn't capable of, and you're not near a WiFi connection.
If you ask me... that would probably be the perfect way to please their customers. Hell... it'd make me a little happy. Although... then again... i don't really have any mobile devices BUT my phone... so possibly not.
I hate to be throttled and I've been throttled every month since it started, but really I don't think "unlimited data" guarantees the data has to be a certain minimum speed (real slow downs from network congestion or manufactured through throttling).
I can't quite remember where I read it, but somewhere I read that AT&T promised unlimited, not necessarily fast. (Not a viable excuse, just thought it was a funny thought ) I do wonder however how many people will try to follow with this and how 'out of hand' it may get. I wonder what it will push AT&T to do.

.... Generally... when you hear "Unlimited"... you don't think "Well, it'll become slower than hell if i go this far". That'd be like going to an all you can eat buffet, and they tell you that you can have all you want for the first 15 minutes you're there... but after that you have to wait 10 minutes in between each plate. At this point, there are only really two differences between the 3GB plan and the "Unlimited" plan. Those being that the unlimited plan doesn't get charged for going over 3GB but supposedly goes so ungodly slow after being throttled that it's hardly worth using.... and that the 3GB plan may be charged extra per GB... but at least they can probably use it without being throttled.

I see the point you are trying to make but if it is throttled to the point that it makes using the Internet pointless then it's really no longer a Data Plan.
I would be interested in seeing what information he provided to make his case. I've had an unlimited plan for a few years and this month was the 1st time I got a txt saying I was over 3gb of data. I guess I got thorrtled, but my radio seems to keep me slow the way it is
Actually, once I got the txt, I was a Tad faster.
Yeah it BULL , at&t took my unlimited data plan away cuz i tethered three times to send one email, so i escalated to and asistant call center manager that put it back, at&t is a bunch of deucshe bags, they no how to treat there loyal customers dont they if i could do something about this i would it pisses me off enough too. I WILL SAY THIS ... I NOW AM GOING TO TAKE ADVANTAGE OF AT&T COMPLETELY, I WILL RIP THEM OFF AND TREAT THEM AS THEY HAVE TREATED ME AND THE REST OF YOU. YOU WANNA CAP MY DATA AND MAKE IT INSIGNIFICANT TO HAVE IT AT&T? HUH? WELL WATCH AS YOU PAY FOR MY DATA PLAN EVERY MONTH, I WILL HAVE MY REVENGE OR ILL JUST GET AN LTE PHONE AND COMPLAIN AND NEVER DO A THING THAT I HAVE TALKED ABOUT IN THIS RIDICULOUS COMMENT> BUT IT SURE PISSES ME OFF

Maybe stop calling it an unlimited plan. That might go a long way to helping their case.
