Weird messaging threads? - myTouch 4G Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My phone is running the latest version of CM7. When I text, there are weird threads at the bottom saying the last time I texted was December 31 1969 or something. I press delete, but they are still there and wont go away! I tried reflashing but it didn't work! So any help will be appreciated. I will attach a photo.
EDIT:apparently xda is being stupid and I can't upload a picture. Sorry but you get what I mean right?

LOL! what you from the past or something?
kind of obvious, but did you do a full wipe (data, cache, dalvik) before flashing?
and did you verify the md5sum?

I think this has to do with displaying precise date and time settings in the messaging app. Try changing that.
Also try a wipe of cache and dalvik in recovery, and clearing data for the messaging app in apps settings.

I wiped cache and dalvik, and battery stats (on accident lol) and I cleared the app data from manage applications. Any other ideas? I can live with it, just gets a little annoying.

Remove sim card, boot up without it, delete all threads?
Sent from my Sensation using xda premium

December 31, 1969 is the oldest date the phone's hardware can recognize. This date gets slapped onto messaging threads that A) have no date or B) have a corrupted date. It can also happen if Android loses it's ability to tell time. Sometimes these weird threads appear when you use cloud texting services, like CloudTXT, DeskSMS, Airdroid (which does way more than cloud texting, check that app out).. You really can't "fix" them, but if all your threads, new and old, have this date being slapped on to them then you should try wiping cache/dalvik or remove a cloud texting app if you're using one. Also check Date and Time in Android settings to see if it is screwed up there as well.

I just flashed miui and no weird threads!!! thank you all for help

Market Issues

I'm having a serious issue with the market and I have not been able to find any solutions. No matter what I do, applications will not download. I've wiped cache, dalvik cache, even a factory reset or three and nothing. So I odined back to stock di18 and it still won't download anything. Anyone have any ideas?
Lol - we made threads within a minute.
I've got issues too downloading.

Anyone tried via wifi works for me but I'm on a g2

I tried wifi and still a no-go.
Same problem here. Tried downloading an update, and says "Download Unsuccessful" in the notification bar.
I have 2 friends that have the epic 4g and are having the same issue! I rooted the phone for them using the one click root 2.4 and upgrade both to froyo 4.2 beta! I cant say if they had this issue before or not, but they definitly have it now.
Problem: open market try to download any app, it will say that it will download shortly and show briefly in the notification window but then just goes away and never downloads.
I have try connected and disconnected from wifi. Problem still exsist.

Haha I was concerned it was something I did so I explored all my options! But I've got backups for a reason . Anyway as was said in the other post it's working now so no issues anymore! haha

Why does CM7/MIUI keep forceclosing!

Okay so after I restore my apps and then reboot I play around for like 5 minutes then it randomly freezes and every app I click on it forcecloses and I gotta reboot and it happens over and over! Why?

I've only experienced this at random if I restore app data. Not sayings its the cause but it was the common thread for me.

Alanrocks: after you restore you apps and data (make sure your "acceptable" system data isn't being restored from a Samsung rom, like wifi/bookmarks/etc), boot into recovery mode, wipe dalvik and cache partition, and then try doing a fix permissions.
Sent from my SGH-T959 using XDA App
also if the backup part of google doesnt finish all the way in the very begining process of starting cm7 then any and all apps will fc. U know the part where u touch the droid and sign into google and etc.etc...if it doesnt finish signing into google server then it will do that, i found this out the hard way as i couldnt figure my fc's out and that was my prob. I thought it had finished, lol
good luck with ur prob.
My idea is to odin back to stock and reflash cm7! wipe data wipe dalvik etc
Okay thanks just restored and unchecked the Google backup will reboot into recovery to wipe dalvik and fix perm.

Alanrocks: make sure you aren't restoring voodoo control data either.
Lol you guys.
The problem you are experienced is caused by the /datadata folder being full. Apps are trying to save/change settings as you run them but since it's full, they can't write to it and force close. To fix this problem, go in the folder and find out what app or a few apps are taking the most space and delete them. Your problem will be solved.

the vibrant's original partition scheme essentially change /datadata to /dbdata. but we're not using that. and that has nothing to do with storage.
Ooops mis understood.
Okay gotcha but i think fixing the permissions fixed it as i havent had any issues since last night

I think I have to delete some apps.
I just deleted the /datadata folder and rebooted. Cleared dalvik and fixed permissions . Went back to the /datadata folder and there was only 6 mb free of 178
And you're wring because if I delete a folder of an installed app.
I reboot the phone and the folder automatically comes back.
Yes you get more memory when you delete but as soon as you reboot everything comes back.
I've been having this happen to me so often and it has been driving me nuts. Is there anyway to increases the space in /datadata? I have 5 gbs free, so I hate that it says it's almost out of room.

Factory Resetting bad??

I factory reset my phone alot, im talking maybe once a week. Is it bad to do this?? Will my phones performance plummet or what? Thanks in advance! =]

I wouldnt think so the flashaholics and devs flash more than once in a day sometimes, when i was trying different things with Supreme, i would format system/data/cache and wipe dalvik sometimes 3 times a day and reflash because i had an error
Sent from my PG06100 using Tapatalk
its perfectly fine, i do it all the time testing different things on my transform and ive never had a problem from factory resetting it. hoping to be able to be a flashaholic again soon with the shift
I suppose it could over the long run. I think it would take quite a while. Because I've been doing full wipes, and factory resets. Testing stuff, reflashing because of errors, or just dev stuff. For a while now, zero adverse effects.
There have been debates about this in every forum on XDA I'm pretty sure haha. The general consensus from what I've read is this. NAND memory does have a lifespan, that much is a fact. It is most people's opinion, however, that even above average flashaholics will not reach this lifespan in the couple of years they have their phone.

That can be pretty bad, yes . What precisely do each of the various wipe/resets accomplish? I.e., factory, dalek, memory cache, partition reset, etc.
Thanks

Factory wipes you /data and /cache which data is where your apps and random user stuff is stored, your cache is your cache... Your dalvik from what I understand is what makes android android, that's where all your widgets and what not reside, /system wipes your system files and formats it, of you wipe that you need to flash another rom cuz your phone won't boot other wise... If i have anything wrong please correct me, but ya

Cannot install Facebook 1.7 from Market

I cant install the new FB update on my DZ with Cyanogen 1.7. I get the message "This item is not compatible with your device. "
I tried resetting my pixel density to stock and checked my build.prop against a stock one. I cant see anything wrongt.
In the mean time I found an apk on google so I can sideload it, but still... weird. Will other apps start disallowing the Z soon?
Never heard of cyanogen 1.7 before

Its a bug with cm7. Reset your density, then clear market data, then do a full reboot. should work

Contacts force closing

Im having a serious problem. Anytime I try to add to or create a new contact, it force closes. I can't in any way edit any contact. The process is com.motorola.contacts. I am on stock 2.3 rooted only. I had previously frozen all the social and yahoo authenticators and since had no adverse affects, went ahead and uninstalled them all. However this was about a week ago, but this problem with contacts began this past weekend. Im at a loss. I need to get this working again. Im very uncomfortable with unlocking my bootloader to reflash as I don't understand the terminology you pros use and afraid to ask for fear of being called stupid (again) by some pros. Any help? And please if you feel the need to make me feel like a complete moron, please bite your tongue. Thank you.

what all did you delete???? that could very well be your problem. i know on my galaxy tab 7 i deleted the email app and my cam force closed every time and would not work, put the app back and all was fixed.
Yes, probably your contacts get fc 'cause you deleted the yahoo authentication, and I think the contacts (if some of your contacts have a yahoo account) use this authentication, so if the contact app doesn't find the authentication app this fc.
And probably if you deleted others sys apps linked with the contact app, you'll still having fc.
So, what apps did you delete?
Anyway you can try install the app(s) again with rootexplorer

I suggest to freeze apps and don't uninstall them (unless you are 100% certain it's safe to delete).
I had the same problem as you, but in my case I just had frozen the authentication apps, which after I un-froze them, Contacts worked again.
Maybe a ROM reflash is what you need?

You can try this 2 ways:
1. With root explorer go to: system/app then look for the apps you deleted, tap and reinstall them.
2. Any way can't reinstall the apps, you may try a factory reset: setting/privacy/factory data reset (using this way all your data will be erased)
