I have been using dolphin browser on my tablet since I got it. I am constantly having problems on various websites, especially when responding to threads or private messaging people. Can anyone recommend a better browser?
I use the stock browser, the best one for me so far (and, yes, I've tried Dolphin HD...).
opera mobile was the best for me so far
proxonic
Opera mobile is the fastest for me, but I find that Maxthon browser for tabs works with a few sites that opera has trouble with, its a little slower though.

browser wars on android
I use Firefox Beta on android... but it doesn't do flash so for flash I use stock. I also have Opera installed and use it occasionally. It doesn't seem to have issues with flash. I use firefox primarily because it allows me to synch bookmarks, passwords, and preferences across all my platforms: windows, linux, and android.

Bye
Nico
my vote to Opera. have been using it for a while on phone and iconia. Love it. Dolphin and stock are good to though.
dolphin hd on phone. most every thing else is crap. but when it comes ro my iconia, opera is almost flawless and doesnr end up hanging like dolphin and stock. and it seems to handle flash a lot better. with other browsers id have to set flash to on demand. with opera I can keep it always on and keeps running smooth. the tabs/windows are also a lot better to look at
Opera with flash and stock.
I think that opera mobile is great for thios tablet but it's lucking the option to change agent ;(

Both of these are so much slower than opera though. I do like their UI better than opera though.

Does a modern html5 site like this http://sammystodos.brandonaaron.net
works on Nexus One or Desire?
It seems that the browser doesn't support standards as much as safari on iPhone..
Chrome is by far the best browser on the market, followed by Opera.
Eventually they will merge everything that desktop's Chrome can do into Android..
But so far - yes, that website works fine, except for editing the fields that you added. I assume that can easily be fixed by tweaking the site itself.
I can confirm that its working on the nexus one with to stock browser.

Can you actually type?
I tried it on the Desire browser and it looks exactly like yours, but I cannot type. Holding the Menu button to bring up the keyboard doesn't work either.
Checking the checkboxes and using the trash can icon to delete items do work.

How is it better?
It's Fennec, which can do everything Firefox can do, including making use of the desktop addons, and it supports Flash 9.4
This will be an ongoing problem with HTML5.
"how does it look on this browser ??"
This is what people dont get about Flash. You have complete control over how everything looks. You dont have that control in HTML , everything is still browser dependent.
Not saying this cant be ironed out..but the impression that a <video> tag is going to solve HTMLs shortcomings is silly. As it stands the browsers are already divided over codec support.
Hi guys, i wanna take advantage of this thread to now more real-life web browsing issues.
How well works this sites on the N1 or HTC Desire browser? (without adding any ad-hoc apps)
- www.facebook.com (does the chat work?)
- www.youtube.com/html5 (how well run the html5 video)
Can u compare them to a normal web browser or iphone?
I have been struggling with the slow default browser for a while now... generally laggy, but particulary dismal on these forums and on Slash dot. I'm sure you all know how it goes. Had to resort to Firefox for many things, but that has its own problems, like not very tablety UI.
Well, today I found Opera (note: Mobile, NOT Mini - both are in Market). Where the hell were those guys before? It's blazing fast - yes, even on XDA forums - yet still full featured, and with UI that looks and feels very nice on Xoom - address bar always on, and tabs are one tap away. Bonus points for default black theme which meshes nicely with Honeycomb. The only downsid so far is no Flash - it mentions support in settings, and shows the "tap to play" icon, but doesn't load plugin on tap. I guess not updated for 10.2 yet...
If you hate default browser, definitely give this a try. Oh, and don't forget to check opera:config - lots of interesting settings there, like font/color overrides.
Dolphin HD?
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Dolphin uses same engine as stock browser, and seems to be slow on the same websites. Firefox and Opera are not because they have their own engines.
I do like Opera mobile browser myself. I use it on my OG Droid all the time. It's a good solid speedy browser. But then again I also like xScope and their web browser. It works very well on the Xoom, and you can also change the user agent. It has a file browser built into it which might be good for some who don't already have a basic file browser. Should give it a go sometime. It is probably the fastest of them all, I've had it since launch. I have xScope Pro and prefer it over any of the Opera browsers any day. But they both are excellent choices. It's all preference based. Right now I am mainly using Dolphin HD on my Xoom until xScope gets flash 10.2 working correctly. Dolphin is a pretty awesome browser.
I'm stuck between xScope and Dolphin for my default browser. I can't choose. xD

Still ****ty with user-agent.
No desktop mode (spoof user-agent).
But yeah, it is fast.

Well if u go to opera:config ---- user prefs ---- Custom user-agent you should see a blank window, insert your the user-agent string in that field. I've tested this with the ipad and chrome strings now i'm using the firefox string
Mozilla/5.0 (Windows; U; Windows NT 6.1; ru; rv:1.9.2.3) Gecko/20100401 Firefox/4.0 (.NET CLR 3.5.30729)
Yeah I tried out Firefox and couldn't believe how much faster it opened some sites compared to the Honey browser. I did get a lot of crashes though. I will have to try Opera now. Thanks!
I actually tried Opera Mobile again and their new update for tablets. Not bad, it's getting better. It certainly might have the potential to maybe be the top web browser if they keep updating it for the newest devices and adding new features. I'm keeping an eye on it and look forward to updates.
On a side note.. on the desktop I always preferred Firefox over Opera because of all the add-ons and customizations, like adblock plus. And Firefox was always a speed demon. They are trying to bring that full desktop experience to us Android users, add-ons and all! I'd watch out for Firefox as well even though the browser is still in the early beta stage. Once perfected it will dominate for sure, but it has a long way to go in terms of development. Gotta love the fox!
This string works great.
Opera/9.80 (Windows NT 6.0; U; de) Presto/2.2.15 Version/10.00
Thank you, Thank you, Thank you!!!!!!
The smoothness of opera's scrolling has always been the selling point for me. Tried all the rest and havent been satisfied. Now that I dont get the annoying mobile versions of sites im all settled..

It looks like I was actually using the updated version. Unfortunately, I found its release notes, and they say that Flash does not work on Xoom specifically.
Speaking of speed, one thing I found interesting about this Opera release is that they somehow made it silky smooth panning and zooming without either the Safari-style "checkerboard" nor bitmap scaling - honest vector rendering only. What's interesting is that desktop Opera isn't half as good at that (partly why I switched to Chrome on desktop some time ago). Mobile getting all the love?
After using it for a while, one thing it's not is very stable (well, not any more so than Firefox beta). But between them two and the stock browser, you can always find one that doesn't FC on any particular website
I love Opera Mini but am I the only one that can't get flash to work with it? I also don't know why it isn't picking up my bookmarks that I used with my stock browser.
Sent from my Xoom using XDA App
Once they did Flash this will be my daily browser. just smooth as butter.
i just installed Opera on the Xoom.. works great, fast, but 2 things
it says there is Flash, but it does not work, on demand or just auto, nothing, just blank screen
2. no option to set "desktop" always goes mobile.
i could be missing something, please help

How about an app or utility so the user can choose what browser he wants to install? similiar to the windows browser choose dialog.
I would advise to not replace the std browser.
You dont know what the exchange will do to other programms.
It s ok to put an additional one in there, but please dont replace th std.

My personal experience is that Dolphin Mini is the best combination of speed and features. I found the full Dolphin a little slow, and Miren and Opera did not render some pages that Dolphin had no problem with.
Archos default browser
Install a new one if you want, but I need my stock browser. It's alot easier to install a new one from the Market than it is to reload the original browser if you take it out.
personally I use dophin mainly because of the lastpass plugin. I couldnt live without it now! so i dont give a monkeys what browser is bundled in with the rom since I wouldnt use it (unless it supported lastpass at some point in the future)

Just leave the stock one. If you want a different browser just install it yourself from the market.
Please leave the stock browser.. but for a second browser I use Dolphin Browser Mini. I tried the HD version and went back to Mini because has better UI and faster IMO. I tried Firefox and uninstalled after a few minutes.. way too slow!
Either Opera mobile or Dolphin HD 5

i'm pretty happy with NetFront Life as second one :
https://market.android.com/details?...roid.nflifebrowser.lite&feature=search_result
None of the above, default. It is always an option for ANY of us to install an alternate browser and even have it be the default, but removing the stock one can get you into trouble.
I already have most of them installed on my device.
I have had some serious problems with Opera and Dolphin, but Dolphin was the absolute worst. It kept freezing every time I tried to use it.
I have been using the stock Android browser since the latest FW, and I was very pleased with it. Overall, I found it to be just as capable as the browsers you find in the market, with less of the drawbacks.
So if the dev wants to give users an option, then great. But please don't remove the standard browser, just give other options.
As always, I appreciate the time you devs take to help us all out.

I'll report this to $aur0n soon
Just as the title says, is there a way to get rid of them? Seems very unnecessary as we have pinch to zoom.
As a side note, the 'similar threads' thing when posting a new topic is ingenious.
Install a different browser.
Dolphin is bang tidy.
I recommend Opera Mini for your 3g connections and Opera Mobile for your wi-fi connections.
Opera Mini is THE fastest browser and has up to 90% less MB usage. Perfect if you are on a data plan. The drawback is that it cant display flash.
Opera Mobile is a decent enough browser, pretty good in fact, but has the added bonus of being able to link with your bookmarks, etc with opera mini.
I find it the perfect solution for the best of all Worlds.
I data usage and 3g speed are no problem you can just use opera mobile for 3g to, it's awesome!

Yes, thats why i use it for my wi-fi connection, but opera mini for 3g.
Opera Mini is the only browser that sends the data to a seperate server first, which then compresses the information before sending it to your phone.
It compresses up to 90%. As i said, great if you are on a data plan. If you are not on a data plan, it is still the fastest browser by a long way.
Opera Mini doesnt support flash and is unlikely to in the foreseeable future because of the cost of running video through a seperate server before sending it to your phone.
Alright, thanks, I'll give it a go.
I tried Opera mobile and it sucked.
My pages would not load unless I was on 3G. As soon as I disabled wi-fi they loaded. The startup screen was very unresponsive. I had to remove it.
I'll try Dolphin tonight.
Dolphin Browser is the Daddy, and you can download quite a few afd ons & colour themes for it.
I use the blue theme.
I tried Opera and quite frankly... It's ****.
Ill simply disagree with the above two posts.
Opera Mini is infinately quicker than Dolphin and both Opera Mobile and Opera Mini is smoother than Dolphin.
Dolphin scrolling is like Stock Scrolling - Jerky on heavy pages.
Go to the desktop version of IGN.com or the desktop version of mmo-champion and you'll see how much both versions (but especially Opera Mini) of Opera whoops Dolphin for speed and smoothness.
Works perfect.

Everybody on a data plan.
Being able to extend your web surfing by up to 9 times more than normal and keeping within your data plan is one of the most useful browsing features ever implemented.
I have also done site by site comparisons with Opera Mini on ign.com and mmo-champion, two very intensive home pages. They look virtually identical to normal browsers. So alike in fact that a part from the lack of Flash on Opera Mini, you would never be able to tell the difference between it and a normal browser.
I therefore accuse you of never having used it.

If you cant figure out how to use Opera Mobile with Wi-Fi, then all your qualifications have taught you nothing.
Hint - You press the Wi-Fi button, then open your browser.
It works.
If you cant get it to work, you are doing it wrong or your Wi-fi is malfunctioning.
I would like to get this post a little back on track, is there a way to mod the standard browser to remove the zoom buttons displayed onscreen?
Ideally not just removing the visual overlay of the buttons.
We can discuss "best mobile web browser" elsewhere.
From what ive read on this thread so far, no one has mentioned that opera mobile has the aforementioned compression featured in opera mini via the Opera turbo mode. Best of both in one package.
To level the playing field, I use opera for browsing on 3g with Turbo mode on. Im not bothered about Opera logging my searches and stuff, as for once its nice to give my web search details to someone other than Google on an android device. I use Dolphin HD with a few plugins like blue theme and shake tab switch and it can make use of the volume buttons to scroll up and down.
Default browser in my opinion has the best flash support, its only shortfull being the zoom buttons onscreen

Ive learnt something in life, that when someone name calls, they generally can be categorised into that word themselves because that is what is on their mind and that is what they think about
The main app any tablet user uses is the Browser I'd assume and unfortunately its the weak spot on Honeycomb.
Viewing most desktop sites is very unbearable (try facebook, XDA, Google Plus) as the page lags, and text input is very difficult as well (huge lag)
Do any devs have any idea how to improve the speed on this stock browser in custom roms or so, I remember a kernel on the Xoom fixed things
This link has more info:
http://code.google.com/p/android/issues/detail?id=17353
If we could get a fix for this I could finally love my tab.
There is a lot less lag on the bonsai rom, but it's not completely gone. Ultimately google will have to be the to fix it.
theyve never mentioned it /acknowledged it
thats the worrying part
Ya know what actually, as,much as i dont like the look of the browser, opera mobile is the best functioning browser ive ever used. There is no browser lag, it render eveything exactly the way my desktop does. Im very suprised that google cannot mirror whatever opera mobile has done.
Ill give you an example of where opera finally got it right...
Try and do a search on xdas site and see what happens. It opens the text box for a second and then it drops the keyboard. Its never works and it is so annoying.
Now try it on opera mobile. Oh my god, it works!
It doesnt work on dolphin, firefox or any other browser ive tried. Opera mobile it works. Can a super sharp coder figure out a way to take whatever opera has in it and put it in the stock HC browser??
it`strange becouse in some forums is all ok, in other the text is very very slow :-(

I tried Opera and everything works great except two things. the first is that often times you will enter text in a text box, and then when you minimize the keyboard to click the submit button, it removes everything you just typed! I had this happen to me about 5 times and then I gave up and uninstalled it. The other issue is mainly a preference, but the tabs suck! Give me real tabs like the stock browser. opera and Firefox have a horrible tab implementation on Android.

I've tested a bunch of browsers at this point and none of them are perfect. I think dolphin comes closest, but it definitely has little things that are annoying (such as it being way to easy to close the wrong tab)

Plus I am very tired of getting to the "mobile" version of the websites.
Its a 10 inch Tablet..
Google needs to give this thing a Desktop identity and load the desktop version of the websites. One thing Apple is doing right with the iPad.
Even better get rid of this Chrome Based Android Mobile Browser and put there the real Chrome.

I know. But after a while is going back to default.
I cant changing and play with the settings every other day.
Plus regular people cannot deal with such advance settings. I personally know 3 people they went with the iPad because of this.

I am a little confused. I don't have an issue with the browser or the typing...The pages load and scroll perfect and there is little to no lag at all on my typing. There can be a slight lag at times when i use the Keyboard/Dock but that is it.
Does anyone else have no issue?
