Hi,
Has anyone with a Rogers Xperia Arc tried sending it through Rogers for warranty repair? Did they grant a warranty?
Also, is it possible to ask the repair centre to replace housing with a white one (in Canada) instead of Midnight Blue?
Thanks A LOT
you wont get the white housing, since rogers only has midnight blue or probably silver one.
But it's to a SE repair centre... not a rogers one... am i correct?
Did you request for one?
I have a Rogers arc... also have a crack in my housing by the sensor.... I doubt they will change the housing to a different color. you will get it the same way you bought it...
I'm wondering thou if i send it in for repairs will they give me a loaner phone? and did they give you a approx. time for repairs? I wanna get mine fixed too
Will Costco's Wirelss Etc Honour it?
Has anyone with this problem experienced any difficulties dealing with Costco? I am going to go later this week to see what they say, but was looking for a "heads up" on potential issues. I would think that Costco's policy of returns, as well as the warranty, should make this an easy procedure.
TIA
Theres already a thread on this issue, why open a new thread

Hiya, Does anyone know of anywhere in the UK I can get my screen replaced or where I can get a new screen from? Sadly, theres a crack developed on mine and a load of dead pixels. cheers
Mine too. I haven't a clue how it happened. I sent it away for repair but the supplier said that there are no screens available... anywhere!
If you have any look, please post.
Cheers.
Hi both
If you have the xda exec go to your local o2 store and pay to send it away for a repair (if you have warranty this will be free!) and you might be lucky like me and some others and get a FREE replacement
You need to be the orginal owner of the xda exec though I think as I had to show proof of purchase even to send it away to get an estimate for the repair via o2.
With what oyu say about their not being any screens this might explain o2's stance saying they can't repair it within 7 days so you have been given a replacement instead :?:
Yeah, im with T-mobile. I think I heard that HTC will repair them for any except O2 who do it themselves which seems to tie in with what you are saying. I shall keep you posted.
Andy....did you meant warranty or insurance.... in the UK I have been quoted £115 plus vat i believe for a oem lcd.... problem is placing the actual order as you can see from my attatchment  ...I have dealt with this chap ages ago and see that his atitude twards buisness has not changed :?
BR
I tried looking on ebay / web for replacement LCD screens etc and it was going to be about £160 with a 3rd party repairer and that would have invalidated the 2 year warranty you get with the o2 exec so I went into the o2 shop and admitted that I dropped the xda and paid them £17.50 to send it away for an estimate.
They wrote on the form cusotmer dropped it and screen broke and as I say they sent me a replacement wihtin 14 days of me taking the exec in.
Putting what I experienced and PinkySlayer's comemnts together I think this is because they have no screens to replace them with so if you have an exec bite the bullet pay the £17.50 to send it away and you might get lucky too
Note I didn;t have their insurance or anything other than my receipt to say I purchased it form o2 6 months earlier.
Thanks for all the comments.
O2 suggested either an O2 shop or the XDA Repair Centre and as the shops as a PITA to get to, I decided on the Repair Centre. My mistake. I'll take the advice here and get to a shop and see what occurs.
Cheers,
Ged.
here in austria you will be charged about €300 for rapair...
spend another €200 and you´ll get an new universal
cheers!

UPDATE
I eventually took my Exec to an O2 shop and they agreed to send it away for repair but explained that I would probably have to pay at least a couple of hundred. I then happened to speak to our O2 account manager and she said that if I had called her, she would have sent me a new replacement without question! Obviously, I rang the O2 shop and asked if I could have the unit back but no, I would have to wait 28 days before I could request it's return.
Earlier today, 27 days after dropping it off, I received a text to say it was ready for collection and guess what? It was a brand spanking new unit, replaced under warranty - no charges!
Cheers,
Ged.
replacement screen
This thread seems a little old but I think it's still relevant and in need of an update. I broke the screen on my vodafone v1640 for the second time, and found it difficult to locate anyone who sells screens. Here are my findings:
There seem to be two ebay sellers that have them - this one and this one.
Both seem to be priced right around $160US shipped.
Beware of ebay sellers that keyword-spam and try to sell you other kinds of LCDs. If you find it for less than $100, it's probably not the right one. A seller that seems to do this a lot is called easyworldwidetrading.
Once you actually find one, it's actually not that hard to replace the screen yourself. It took me 10 minutes - you just need the soft pry tools that ipod hackers use, and the "confidential service manual" from HTC. It can be found elsewhere on this board(but you can PM me if you can't find it).
http://www.pocketpctechs.com seems like a reputable joint, but they don't say they sell the screen by itself, only installed - if anyone's gonna break my stuff, it's gonna be me. I'm going to give them a call and see if I can pick one up from them, as they are "stumbling distance" from me.
About Qtek 9000 LCD screen, I found this on Ebay.fr

Comes from China...
I got a bad one and the seller is telling me to do this. So I am wondering should I dispute through E-Bay and PayPal? (it does have the 2k payment protection) or should I send it in for warranty service. And if I do send it in, what do I tell AT&T? Can I tell them I E-Bayed it? It is new, it even has the VOID sticker underneath the battery cover... Its defective though. Defect found by members of this forum in this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=285062
id suggest going through ebay and paypal and getting your money back. if the seller told you to do that he probably knew it was damaged when he sold it to you. and i highly doubt at&t would replace it.
Yeah... I just called AT&T and totally blew the rest of my options with them away, but ... They say that they only replace it if I bought it from them
I'll never E-Bay electronics again!
Thanks ya'll.
Oh well. I just heard about the Tilt. Called AT&T and got one over the phone for less than I payed for the broken 8525 Well ... guess we'll see how it does
You can go direct through HTC. It may takes some cajoling, but it can be done. They track the warranty status by S/N.
Thanks ya'll
I got the e-bay seller to exchange me another new phone. I hope he doesn't send me a more junk!
Hello everyone,
So I need to replace my phone, but since I am with T-Mobile on an unlocked 8525, I have to go through HTC to do so (I bought the phone on eBay). Does anyone have any experience with their customer support and if this is an easy task to go about doing? (I have the classic white-screen problem)
I already called their American "hotline", and it was just some guy who picked up and didn't sound like he knew what he was talking about. He told me to call back tomorrow when their warranty department was open and they could help me out.
Thanks!

I have had my phone replaced by HTC. But that was only because the repairservice misplaced my phone.
At least here in Europe you need a proof of purchase with a date on it.
After this date the warranty period starts. So you could have some problems there.
eBay / 8525 repair
Hey there,
I had purchased an 8525 on eBay.
A few months later, the phone had some hardware problems.
I tried fixing myself, but was unable to do so.
AT&T / Cingular will not help you if you do not have their service and HTC will not help you, because it is a Cingular / AT&T branded hone.
After selling my broken 8525 on eBay, for parts, I waited to buy a new one.
Just bought another used 8525 on eBay last week, and unlocked it.
Today I purchased a warranty plan from www.squaretrade.com.
They will replace your phone, or give you your money back if they can not replace it.
It is well wirth the money spent for a warranty through them, since AT&T and HTC wont help.
Let me know if you have any questions.
How much can I get?
Well, it's too late for me to get the Squaretrade warranty, but I will keep that in mind for next time, thank you.
Now my question is (if I can't get HTC to replace it), how much could I get for this phone? All it is is the white-screen problem, which I've read people can easily fix by just taking the phone apart (I'm just not good with that so I don't know if I wanna risk it). How much would I be able to sell a white-screen 8525 for on eBay? $250 maybe? Thanks!

I have an X1i from O2 in the UK.
It has a few problems. First of all is the crack near the stylus, another is a crack next to the camera lens area, but the most annoying the 3.5mm jack being very very dodgy. It is difficult to get the right channel to work, that is using various sets of earphones including the SE supplied ones.
How do I go about getting a replacement? Is it O2 I need to speak to or is it SE?
You can go back to the store where you bought your X1.
If you ordered it through the internet, go to the site where you bought it.
Looks like I'll backup my stuff tonight and have a trip to the O2 shop!
Exchange??

Hi,
it would be nice if this would be so easy.
I have 3 cracks in the case by now and fighting about more than 7 weeks with Sonystyle and SE here in USA, guess what. NO replacement, they ignoring the emails, transfere me from one person to another and so on.
On top, i would have to pay for the repair.
So if you have other information or "written examples" for exchange, please share.
greetings
I went into the O2 store I got the phone from and they are willing to take it in for repair. There was no mention of cost and they said it'd most likely be replaced.
Also, is it best I flash my X1 with a stock firmware just in case they get arsey about custom firmwares?

Yes, because only if you have an original firmware will you receive any form of service.
An original firmware includes the updates as given in the thread by Pavel X1
Do you have to revert the spl back to normal? Will they check?
hi i just realise it too today my x1 has crack below the power button and the plastic caseing holding the battery i got it from o2 too but i got my phone through upgrade in november last year will they fix it? i didnt drop it or so this cracks just develop naturally thats not really good about the qc

Definitely yes!
Flash back to the stock O2 R10A ROM and flash the SPL back to the stock one while you're at it. It is the sort of thing that they do notice and bill you later on.
I'm also sending my X1i back to O2 for the crack by the battery compartment. I've had the phone less than 2 months. They're bringing my refurb handset tomorrow and taking my original one away. In fact my posting about it is here...

X807, since you're in the UK, the magic words are "Sale of Goods Act, as amended" and "not fit for purpose". If O2 try to fob you off to SE, remind them that under the Sale of Goods Regulations you have the contract of sale with the retailer, not the manufacturer. It is up to the *retailer* to arrange repair or replacement.

Come to think of it... that question has always been at the back of my mind. What if your X1 was unable to power on? Had sent my X1 for servicing cos of that before. If that's the case you wouldn't be able to flash back to the original firmware. Guess that's one of the reasons for me holding back from using a custom firmware till now.

Right, all sorted ROMwise, I went into the O2 shop where I bought it to sort it out and I was nicely informed (or maybe fobbed off) that another employee in the shop who will be in tomorrow and supposedly has an X1 and had the same problem. But what he did was find online a list of models which was in a bad batch, printed it off and took it to O2 and got an instant replacement in the shop. I've now come home with my X1 and I'm looking for said list. Bare in mind I'm dubious of anything official here.
Since I've been around these parts for long enough (Previous Orange SPV Original owner) I knew that surely here would be the first place to look. Only "list" I can find is on the first page of the cracks thread, and yes mine is one of them, 08W46.
Maybe this is the list, who knows, but I will print the page off and take it to them, and hopefully speak to this guy.
It seems the link in question was
http://xperia-x1.com/xperia-x1-starting-to-show-some-cracks/
So it's not official and the person who originally told me of an instant replacement it talking a load of bollocks.
I am now sending it directly back to SE. Hopefully I'll get a replacement but obviously I'm not overly confident.
u'll most likely get a new one.. i had an issue with my phone where the volume key wasn't working and sent the phone to SE and i got a new one in like 4days..
My HTC HD stopped responding to taps. Boots up OK. LCD is not cracked. I suspected touchscreen problem/ They checked my serial# and told that I'm still under warranty. Great ! So I sent device to HTC repair center in USA. They told me that it has a problem which is NOT covered by warranty and gave me HUGE price to fix it.
See email below

Dear Valued Customer,
This is documentation to provide suggested action repairs and quotation for
each service rendered.
RMA # xxxxxxxxx
Diagnosis:
LCD has Newton Ring
Suggested Repair:
Motherboard and LCD
Total Repair Price:
$546.08

Obviously I do not want to repair at that price. I can buy new HTC HD at this price. Can somebody explain what is
1. Newton ring
2. Why do I need to replace motherboard if phone boots up FINE ?
Anyway I asked HTC to NOT repair my phone and send it back. Can somebody recommend me good mail-in repair center in USA ? Some people can replace touchscreen/LCD by themselves, but that is NOT me
you should check out ppctechs

Here's an alternative worth looking at if you still wanna keep an HD
sell it AS-IS Broken on ebay...get about $200 for it.
Buy as USED one on ebay for bout $350.
You'll be out of $150...there thats a reasonable repair cost.
Just an idea..I have seen broken items go for a considerable amount of change on ebay( people use the parts, repair them themselves, all sorts of things), Any repair charge is gonna be over $100 unless you do it yourself so its worth looking into imo.

Actually, it will be more then $150. Because of eBay/PayPal fees And I know that my HD was in InvisibleSHIELD from day 1. It will be hard to buy such "like new cosmetic condition" HD for $350
I'll try local repair shops. Here I was wondering if somebody used REPUTABLE online repairs.
Yea...maybe so then.
Im in the US too, I'll keep an ear out for ya. If I come across anything I'll shoot ya a PM or post it. Good luck, homie!!
