for the love of God can some body help me?
i just dont know what to do, this is the oem rom update and why the unit is not able to find the update in the sd card?
This post isn't about development, you posted the same thing in multiple places, and you can't install the AT&T update with clockwork, you need the stock recovery.

Please god, Ive been stuck on this **** for 14 hours now. SOLUTION PLEASE!
I've experience rooting/roming over 50 phones, and this is getting irritating!
CWM doesnt flash .pkg's, and I'm coming in way to late in the process to understand this QueTip program or w-e. A simple stock recovery flash tutorial n link would be amazing.
this will happen too when you flash it over 2.2 already but in your case your on 16 ryt?i would suggest google search for the stock 1.6 6601 recovery image and flash it and then flash clockwork and then apply the update.
try to look here.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=778397
try here also.
http://android.modaco.com/content/d...uide-to-upgrading-and-downgrading-the-streak/
whats your baseband prior to this update?
I suggest that you use streakdroid recovery to make a nandroid backup before you revert to the stock recovery,
Download stock recovery from here. Make sure it is on your computer in the same folder as fastboot.exe
Excerpted from this streakdroid guide:
Shut down your Streak, then hold down the camera button (all the way) as you turn it back on.
The screen should turn white; press ‘Fastboot’ in the top right hand of the screen.
Plug in the USB cable – the Streak should now display ‘FASTBOOT_MODE’ at the bottom of the screen.
Open a command window and use ‘cd’ to change to the same directory as qdltool.
Run: fastboot -i 0x413c flash recovery recovery.img
Run: fastboot -i 0x413c reboot
Either rename the file you downloaded to recovery.img or change the name of the file to flash in step 5 to match the file downloaded.
Boot into recovery and you should now have a stock recovery.
You can boot your phone and try downloading and installing the OTA upgrade or you can place the upgrade file on your SD card and name it upgrade.pkg and try to install it using the stock recovery.
I suggest that you use streakdroid recovery to make a nandroid backup before you revert to the stock recovery.
Make sure that any ROM you try to install on your phone is appropriate for your hardware and carrier.
I personally was on the 318 build of 2.2... Downgraded to O2 2.1, then to O2 1.6, then to AT&T 1.6 with the BB downgrade... then upgrade to AT&T 340 2.2, its not that hard... get to stock AT&T 1.6 and leave the 340 "update.pkg" in the root of the SD card.
Instructions to get to AT&T 1.6 here > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8558692&postcount=4

If you are not on at&t's 1.6 than this is your only option. Also your only way to go back to the 1.6 is using essentially same steps as above. So just make sure fastboot is set up and follow the steps listed above. It will work regardless of os you are running now. I just did it and I was on dj steve's 1.8. On a side note how is the upgrade working for you?(those that installed it)

i have fastboot
Yeah my installation came up with an error and it would not boot after it was applied so previously posted stock recovery does not work. So what you have to do is follow the steps to go back to stock at&t 1.6 rom. Here are the directions http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=8558692&postcount=4
I am in a process of doing this now so i'll keep you posted. However, once you do the downgrade from the link above you should be able to just install latest at&t rom without any problems. Hope that helps.

If you can get into CWM, you only need two more steps now
1) mount /system
2) install zip from sd -> su-2.3.6.1-ef-signed.zip
Reboot and you are rooted.

Yes I follow the root technique of "hxxp://nexusshacks.com/nexus-s-hacks/how-to-root-nexus-s/", and, like "vbobmac", my phone stock at google page.
After that, i try the "rootboot.img" who give "Si_NZ" to "vbobmac".
And, like him, after that when i boot, i can only boot into clockwork recovery, and i can't go into "bootloader" mode.
Can I make my rom at stock into clockwork recovery?
I hope, it's possible to unmake this mistake?
In the post "[ROM] Stock - 2.3.4 - GRJ22 - Deodexed w/radio for NS/NS4G", do i have to take a rom rooted or not? Because my phone is unlock, but not totally rooted i think.
Sorry for all those questions, but i'm a little lost. And i'm affraid to make an error who will kill my Nexus S.
Thank you a lot for your help, i wait your answer before doing anything.
Thank you again.
It's great to see people, who are ready to help directly.
Edit: Now I can boot in "bootloader" mode, but i try with ODIN to put back at stock my phone, but the computer (Windows 7) dont recognise the phSamsungone.
Even when I install PC Studio 3.
Do you now an other way to make my phone work? Root or at stock, doesn't matter. Just if he can live, it's good to me.

Can you access the sdcard to flash a rom? You can do that by going to clockwork recovery, then mounts and storage, then select mount USB storage, then on your PC go to my computer and press refresh until you see the phone storage appear, keep pressing refresh for atleast 5 minutes because sometimes it takes a while. Then download any rom rooted or unrooted and flash in clockwork recovery.
If you can't do that and you can use fastboot, I'll send you a system.img and boot.img to flash.

Do you have a rom 2.3.4 for Nexus i9023 please? Maybe i don't flash with a good rom?
Thanks again for your help.

Do i have an other choice for flashing my phone?

But, the operation abort with a "statut 7".

For flashing bootloader and clocwork recovery, i have to do it from Windows?

Hello, thanks for the post.
I got a brand new Nexus S, I got a update direct from Google so I just flash it to GRJ22 :-(. I follow your guide (I have to do the step 1/2 in the other post you refer). Now I got clockwork done. But everytime I restart my phone, I always boot into clockwork. I try to 'mount sdcard' and reboot, but still boot into clockwork. How can I boot into the stock ROM?
many thanks!!
Too complicated.
Just:
1. turn on phone by holding volume up + power to go to bootloader
2. fastboot oem unlock (confirm it on the phone)
3. fastboot flash recovery recoveryfilename.img
4. Select recovery on the phone.
5. You're in ClockworkMod. Go flash a new ROM.
Let me answer myself.
I don't think the latest rom 2.3.4 is compatible with the clockwork you supplied. So I have to flash my phone back to GRH78. I downloaded the stock ROM from the internet. and then push all the images file into /sdcard/clockworkmod/backup/2010.xxx.
Next, I restore the image in clockwork menu.
after restore, reboot the phone, now I am back in business.
When the phone is boot, i lost the root again, so i went to modaco.com and get Paul's package. run it, restart, I got the root.
Finally, go to market place and get ROM Manager, install the clockwordmod. and I have a 'proper' phone.
although I don't have the least rom, at least i got a working phone that is rooted.

I have the same problem. How did you handle it?
Wow, why risk messing up your phone with flashing a boot.img when you can just rename /etc/install-recovery.sh to something like /etc/install-recovery.bak?
Here's one way to rename (courtesy of Matridom). Another is to use Root Explorer.
Matridom said:
The new update applies the install-recovery.sh script into our phones (not there previously.
Boot into the bootloader
flash CWM
select recovery from the bootloader (DO NOT reboot the phone)
apply the su binary
boot into the OS and test root
make sure busybox is properly installed
run ADB shell
then:
Code:
su
mount -o remount,rw /dev/block/mtdblock3 /system
mv /system/etc/install-recovery.sh /system/etc/install-recovery.bak
Boot back into the bootloader and re-flash CWM, should stay permanent now.l had applied the SU binary at the same time as the OTA update, then renamed the installer script and flashed back CWM.

This is a totally unorthodox way to make the custom recovery permanent. If your phone is messed up, good luck fixing it.
There is a much easier and safer way like I mentioned.
PS: flashing recovery for 2.3.4 is the exact same as for 2.3.3!

Wow people like to make things complicated. Why install an entire rom to get ride of a script?
if you can flash cwm, you should have some basic understanding of fastboot, adb and the search options in the forums. the answers are all there already.
Sent from my Nexus S
No disrespect, I agree flashing recoverys should only be done after you understand how to use the tools to do it. there is no reason someone who is going to mod systems on their nexus shouldn't be able to use fastboot and adb properly. all the right drivers are in the sdk.

This is what I did.
I rooted my NS, which had 2.3.3
Used phone with stock 2.3.3 until I figured out which ROM I want to flash.
Before I flashed any ROM, did a Nandroid Backup through CWM.
Used the ROM for a few days, but when I saw that official update is ready for download for i9020A, did do a restore from the Nandroid backup I created.
Updated from 2.3.3 to 2.3.4, phone works fantastic, video chat also works great.
After update when I tried using any of the apps required SU permission, they didn't work. I tried installing a couple of .apk files, couldn't either install it or after installation it didn't work.
Thought let me try wiping my phone clean and start all over again, may be I will use a custom ROM again, downloaded ROM, went to ROM Manager to reboot into recovery, nothing happens.
Tried booting into Recovery option manually by pressing Volume Up and Power button, nothing happens but the Bot with an Arrow appears on screen.
So, I thought I will follow this procedure to reflash CWM to my phone and get it going. I was able to use the command FastBoot once, and suceeded pushing .img file to my phone but now whenever I try using the commands from my computer, this error message appears : "This application has failed to start becasue AdbWinApi.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this problem."
Why this error message if I have the sdk on my computer already through which I was once able to push .img file without any troubles?
Can anyone tell me what would be a possible solution?
Also, how can I fix this problem and get ClockWorkMod Recovery installed on my NS again?
How can I get stock recovery image on my phone if I want start all over again from scratch?
Thx a million.
Edit ::: I found the answer as to how to how to install CWM again. Thx anyways.
Other question still remains a puzzle... why am I not able to install certain programs or if did manage to install, can't run them?
I ran your method and I think I'm stuck at some step...
My phone now default boots into CWM 3.0.2.4
Recovery boots to a newer recovery I flashed.
How do I get my phone to default boot into the OS again?
Edit: nevermind, just downloaded the full 2.3.4 rom, extracted and flashed the original boot.img.

After installing the sdk and a platform, I have adb, but where is fastboot?
I was getting the same error as "Image cant be loaded". after hours of struggling I found that It's only because I was not in the same directory as the img file. silly eh?
hi,did you repaiar your phone,i have try everything but it just keep going in clockwork mode,if i than pres reboot now in clockworkmode it stays on google padlock
i realy need phone if you can help or someone else, than ....
just tried this method of window7 (thanks for the work) with cwm 3.0.2.4, but got the same result like the others in this thread: cant boot the android 2.3.4, the system is always booting into the cwm, no way out.
I don't think this tool works as it should.
:-(
EDIT:
I didn't realize that window7's tool would install the cwm into the boot-partition instead of the recovery-partition.
To get my boot partition back I downloaded the 2.3.4 firmware image from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1056062 and extracted the boot.img from the zip.
with "fastboot flash boot boot.img" I restored my orginal boot partition an can boot into android again.
(fastboot is part of the android sdk)
Is there any way i can replace my custom rom with the original 2.3
I currently have the newest Oxygen Rom..
And CWM Recovery 5.0.2.7
Any help would be much appreciated
Apply official 2.2. After it remove repartitions if you have. Then just install official 2.3 same way you installed 2.2. Thats it.

btw if this link doesnt work now, try later, and I will also try uploading somewhere
edit:
here is the promised link: http://www.mediafire.com/?c97gnolbh9759y7
First you don' t need to flash original 2.2 rom before flash original 2.3.
Now, are you sure that you've put the dload folder, which must contain a file named UPDATE.APP, in the root directory of sd card?

Still just the pink screen, do i need to change some files maybe.
I have CWM and i think i installed a custom boot.img for root access...
as far as I know, there have to be 2 files in that folder, at least i had 2 files when i did flashing. UPDATE.APP and UPDATE_CUST.APP
If you still have the original boot.img, restore it and try again.
Or go into settings->memory->software update, it's another way to update.
Did a factory reset, still waiting to see if this fixes it...
Did not seem to work, didn't install the stock rom from sd...
I also downloaded original boot.img, but it failed that to
now I'm uploading files which I used to flash stock 2.2. they will be uploaded in about 20minutes if everything goes well ^^
edit:
here is the link: http://www.mediafire.com/?c97gnolbh9759y7 just unzip, and there will be folder named dload. you know the rest

Thank you very much
I didn't work, so I'll just stick to custom roms for now.
But which rom do you suggest...
I have Oxygen
I've tried CM7(long time ago)
I'll probably try MIUI next...
Change, boot.img or recovery.img, cannot help you to install official rom.
For booting to update mode, responsible is the bootloader, which isn't part of boot.img or recovery.img.
Also you don' t need 2 files on dload folder. You just need the update.app. If a rom has more files, need more steps to flash them all. For e.g if you have a update_cust.app file, you need to flash first the update.app, then rename the update_cust.app, to update.app and flash again.
Anyway if you cannot boot to Update mode, or something you do wrong, or the sd card cannot read from bootloader, and boots on pink screen mode instead.
You can try to put the dload folder on internal sd card.
I think i might have backup of the original system, restoring now to check...
EDIT:
It worked, it was from before i did anything to the phone...
I'm about to cry :'), happy tears everyone...
Thanks for all your help
Damn forgot my pattern...
Hey guys, so this happened to me. After following the guide to install cm 10.1 i got a boot loop, and somehow when i got back to recovery mode 5.0.2.7 my sd card wasnt being recognized, i couldnt connect my phone to pc ( unable to write to ums lunfile ) and i also couldn't mount sd-ext, wich means that i'm stuck in recovery.
I even tried pink screen, but win7 doesnt install the drivers, so i can't copy any new rom to my phone to bring it back to life.
So what can i do?.... im tired of searching an nothing.
(sorry for my english)

Try connecting the phone to a Linux distro, Ubuntu for example. No drivers are needed and you can access the phone via pink screen and a sudo nautilus window
Cheers
You can try to ask someone to give you the drivers and then force install them while connected to pink screen. OR you can connect your phone while got are in recovery and if your computer recognizes phone then push a ROM through adb.

i have already tried to mount the phone with recovery but it doesnt allow me :\
You have flashed previously an official 2.3 rom which has pink screen locked, so you cannot access to the partitions. Linux cannot help you on this.
So if you haven't access to sdcard or to adb, then the only think you can do is to reinstall the official rom. But this time do these 2 more steps which are life savers:
1. Flash the unlocked bootloader. There is a thread on U8800' s forums: "get your pink screen back"(maybe the name isn't exactly this but you will find it using search function). This will flash the B518 bootloader which is the last unlocked. All next version of official rom have the bootloader locked.
2. Make a full backup of the device from linux. There is also a thread for this: U8800 full Linux backup how to
Then you will have the way to recover your device from almost everything.
Also to flash CM10.1 you need larger /system partition. This was the reason of bootloop. There are infos about this on CM10.1 thread on general section.

You don't need it just remove your sd and put on another phone or SD reader and copy files to micro-sd then you can update...
My advice: official rom, root, CWM recovery then update to any custom rom.

but how can i update if the phone isnt reading sd?
This happens in recovery mode. This isn' t a general sdcard fault. The update mode is different and I don't thing that you have problems with sd there.

No you cannot use bootloader.zip on upgrade mode.
You must install the official rom from upgrade mode as you did the first time.
Then first you must root the phone, flash the custom recovery and after flash the bootloader.zip from there.

You have to rename the update.app from step 2 to update_cust.app I THINK.
