So i upgraded my phone with the leaked froyo update.zip and everything went well except for the gps. So i followed the how to "unbrick/bring back to stock" thread so i could downgrade my phone to the di18 firmware. I used odin, the s1_odin20100512.pit and the d700.zimage.stock file. I did not want to wipe out everything, i just wanted to downgrade the kernal back to stock.
When i tried flashing on odin, it failed. now when i try turning on my i get the phone icon with the exclamation mark in the triangle. I wanted to call my girlfriend after flashing my phone but now i cant . Please help me save my phone!
EDIT: Okay not bricked, but it wont load up android

Put the phone in download mode again and run odin again.

Thanks for the tip!
Your gonna want to flash the di18.tar in "pda" with odin and only reboot checked, no pit needed. That gets the di18 firmware back, and the only way.. kernel has nothing to do with it..
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I am about to do this too.. and dont want to wipe the data only get back to di18 to get the gps working.. so in that case:
1. I dont need pit file at all
2. which .tar to choose? not the255 mb file?
Mine failed the first time to. I followed the directions from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=773032
I tried it a second time but used the victory pit that came with odin 1.61 and it worked. I think in the instructions their using an older version of odin.
I'm not in anyway an expert and you may not even need to use a pit like another poster said. It worked for me though. When I got done the phone rebooted and it showed it having the eclair d07 build from there it updated itself to dI18.
I believe you still need the pit file. If you are going back to stock DI18, than use this:
Stock Files
The one you were trying to use was the kernel I believe.
Here is the pit file you need:
pit file
I have flashed back to stock about 14 times and I have used these two files successfully every time.
yeah ive done it te same wasy that swanysto has done it also a lot. it always works for me to. i know some sa you don't need the pit unless just doing a kernel but i always use it. just my 2 cents
pull the SD card out before you go into download mode (not just pull it out, make sure to push down and let it pop up to remove it).
Hello,
Do you know where I can get a PHONE file for Vibrant T959 to use with ODIN?? Please help...
A while back, in the process of installing a 2.3.3 ROM on my Vibrant T959, I used a Galaxy 9000 PHONE file (and PIT and PDA) via ODIN. Since then, at boot, splash says i9000 then 2nd splansh says Vibrant.
Phone works ok, but there are times when it thinks phone is an i9000 not an Vibrant - like using ROM Manager and downloading recovery.
I have looked everywhere but not found a stock PHONE file for Vibrant (only found 512 PIT and PDA files).
Please email or point me to one, if you have or know where.
Much appreciated

Hi eggnoodle,
I do not see PHONE file in the package..., only the PIT and PDA files.
Will this fix the GT i9000 splash screen and other issue? Let me know..
thx
Perhaps you misunderstood, but I was not looking for the TAR and PIT files. I am looking for the PHONE file.
Thx
If you're looking for stock rom then you can find it here

hopefully someone else with more experience can chime in...as I'm a newbie myself.
Thx anyway, but I am looking for the specific PHONE file to use with ODIN...

Hi seedofchaos,
I have flashed back to stock many a time, to install ROMS, etc. but this has not restored the Vibrant initial splashscreen. This first splash only changed after I used a GT i9000 PHONE file with ODIN.
If you can direct me to a PHONE file to use with ODIN, I would appreciate it.
I have read about the aoi toolbox but it is more than I was looking for at moment. I just need the PHONE file for the Vibrant T959, please.
Flashing the Samsung Vibrant to stock firmware does not require a PHONE file to be selected in Odin.
You might have heard that for some other phone, but for this phone all that is required is a .tar file and a .pit file which has already been linked to.
Edit: Seems like you might just have to flash a vibrant kernel. Look into flashing that.

No sir, I am not trying to flash back to stock. I am not trying to flash to stock. I know how to do that with TAR and PIT, but that is not what I am trying to do.
I need the PHONE file to restore the initial boot splash and to get the phone to stop identifying as a GT i9000 in some apps, which it does. This behavior started when I used a GT i9000 PHONE file in ODIN.
Sorry for the confusion this is causing, but if anyone has it, I need a PHONE file for Vibrant T959.
thanks

We understand what you are trying to do. You want to get the old boot splash back the only way to do that is to flash a stock rom. Jfd will do the trick. Otherwise you'll need to have a custom kernel like overstock flashed through clockworkmod.

Well, I have flashed JFD twice using ODIN, but no cigar.
I did so in the process of installing a new ROM.
Is there something I am missing? Current ROM is Simply Galaxy 3 rc2 based on 2.3.3
Thanks for all help
I think you need vibrant sbl.bin/boot.bin. Look here....
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=756832&page=2
You can ask Jellette for bootloader.
It sounds to me like you flashed the i900 sbl and boot.bin in other words your phone has the i900 boot loader. You'll need to find the files to flash the t959 boot loader however be VERY VERY careful doing so as you have about a 50/50 chance of hard bricking your phone when doing so. The files aren't available on xda for that reason. You're only shot is finding a dev who has said files and is willing to help you out. Good luck!

Hi, I searched the forums and can't find an answer for my softbrick. I was trying to push a recovery file into system/bin after i changed recovery to recovery.bak. I clicked R/W when I pushed it, but when I looked again it was still R/O and the recovery.bin i pushed was 0.00kb (guessing it didn't go through). After, I tried booting into CWM Recovery and now I'm stuck at the Samsung Vibrant screen when you first turn on the phone.
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum. Thanks for any help.

Odin back to stock?
Look in the Bible.
Edit: The Vibrant Bible.
You need to get into recovery and Odin back to stock and go from there. Look for the Bible and read all of it, that saved my phone a million times. Good luck!!

If you turn her off then plug in a USB cable connected to a PC while holding both volume buttons and the yellow screen comes up, you win. Just read up on using Odin. Otherwise try a jig. I hear Irish works best.

Of course, this is never as easy as you think its gonna be -
Got to Download Mode, opened up Odin, got the .pit in, but when I get to the .tar file (that i got from here http://androidspin.com/2010/08/09/how-to-restore-or-recover-your-samsung-vibrant/ ) Odin can't find any .tar files from the JFD extract folder. They're all .rfs and an .lfs files.
Also, I searched the forums and the Bible and shiz for both the .pit and .tar and only got one hit that lead to a discontinued link.
Am I doing something wrong or are the .rfs/.lfs files correct? Can anyone lead me to a good download for the .tar? (Google and samsung.com are useless... )

2.1 is eaasier to root, just put the update.zip on the phone, go to recovery, reinstall packages and done
Here are the two files, update is the superuser, and update clockwork is recovery.
1. Put the files in the root of your phone storage.
2. reboot to (Stock) recovery
3. reinstall packages, you are rooted.
rename the update file to something else, and then rename the clockwork file update. Repeat the above steps to install Clockwork Mod Recovery
View attachment update.zip
View attachment UpdateClockwork.zip
As long as you are on JFD 2.1, and have not Kies Mini updated to Froyo yet, you should be Shiny. If you did update, I would try the modified 3eRecovery installer again.
Hello,
I've been reading as much regarding this issue before I've posted this thread. Please don't attack me because of my lack of knowledge, I'm trying. Thanks.
I recently rooted and installed a custom rom on my SGH-I337, Slimrom was the name of the rom. It worked perfectly, until I decided to upgrade the rom version. I downloaded the update on my phone, rebooted to recovery and flashed the zip. Rebooted my phone, and I'm stuck in a boot loop. No Logo, No recovery, I do have download mode.
I had read that odin flashing the stock rom would fix my issue, so I had done that. I flashed I337UCUAMDL_I337ATTAMDL_ATT successfully. Odin auto-rebooted....to a boot loop. No recovery, No image on my screen while charging, etc.
I had also read that odin flashing TWRP might fix the soft brick I'm experiencing, I downloaded the latest .img from TWRP and converted it to a tar using Cygwin. Attempted to flash it to have Odin tell me it failed.
Does anyone have any idea's or advice how I could get back to a working environment recovery?
Thank you for your time reading this.

when you flashed the rom update, did you do any sort of wipe as well?
when you flash the stock firmware via odin, you have to boot into the stock recovery afterwards and wipe data/factory reset to complete the process or you will be unable to continue. you may want to try that process again.

Thank you for the advice, I have done that countless times. I'm hoping that it changes one of these times though.
I took your advice regarding re-flashing the image and ticking the bootloader update option, odin stated it was successful and auto-rebooted. I pulled the battery and tried to enter recovery, no cigar.
Perhaps try the Heimdall route: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2374441
When attempting to flash TWRP recovery, my phone says in the top right hand corner:
Odin Mode
Product name: SGH-I337
Current Binary: Samsung Official
System Status: Custom
CSB-OEM_CONFIG_LSB: 0x30
WRITE PROTECTION: Enabled
START [224, 1440]
SECURE CHECK FAIL: recovery
Don't know what that means.
I haven't tried the heimdall method yet, not sure if I wanna give it a shot because it seems a lot more complex only to accomplish the same thing odin would. I can imagine something is stopping odin from putting a bootloader, or kernel. That same thing would stop heimdall. But, I have no idea what I'm talking about. Waiting to hear more advice before I make the hole I dug deeper.
Thank you for your time guys.

Thank you for the advice Febby, I have downloaded the file you suggested. This was actually the first recovery I had when I had tried to update my rom version. I converted it successfully to a tar and attempted to odin it over to my phone. I'm receiving the same error I had earlier, Secure Check Fail: Recovery.
Thank you for the suggestion though, as I think this is in the right direction of what I need to do, I don't know how to get past that secure check though.

damn im sorry it didn't work. Samsung is just making this device more and more unpleasant to own. I actually considered switching to a ONE today.
You can always try exchanging it via att warranty (free).

Indeed the "easiest" way to correct this would be via a warranty claim... but would take a couple days.
Otherwise, when you said "updated the ROM" ... How did you go about updating it? I assume you downloaded a .zip from the forums here, and installed it through recovery. But if you somehow, by some miracle, managed to download the MF3 update OTA... that would explain many things.
Also, there's an MDL recovery located over in this post. It's odin-flashable, and works on my device pretty well. Maybe it will get you back to at least having a recovery?
Also, Odin will reject the installation of TWRP like that. Tried it myself once.

Does kinda sound like a kernel problem, I think... Might try just flashing to Kernel to see if it gets any further. You could do that via Heimdall (if you have it setup), or by modifying a copy of the MDL Odin package (e.g. delete everythine but the "boot.img" kernel file, and remove the .md5 extension).
I hope your break is refreshing.

What I did is just google around for my stock kernel, which came in a .TAR file, and was immediately Odin-flashable. That might be even easier.

I just reflashed the stock kernel, no cigar =( It is very strange to me that I can't get the phone to respond to anything other than download mode. Especially considering that I odin'd to stock. I'm starting to think I made it worse by going back to stock after flashing slimbean's weekly update.
Thank you for your time guys, keep the ideas coming, I'm definitely trying to come up with my own ideas.
I have so far done the following:
Odin'd MDL, MDB, Stock Kernel, Stock Recovery (All through download mode, as I don't have access to recovery.)
I've also tried to odin TWRP but I fail in Odin since download mode blocks the illegal recovery.

Im not so sure how everyone just over looked this but the rom in that link is for the att S3. So you flashed an S3 rom to your S4.
D2att is the s3 for att.
Jflteatt is the att variant.

Thats the correct link to weekly roms for slim rom for our device. your partitions might just be corrupted in case maybe having a jtag or using the pit file for MDL would fix? :/ im not an expert haha just observations.

For the second time today I've gone and done something stupid...
I had MF3 this morning, but the device updated OTA to MK2. I tried to flash via odin the MF3 firmware later in the day, and wham... bricked.
Is the MK2 firmware out there somewhere? Does anyone have any suggestions? If I can ever get this straightened out I need to read a lot more so I don't continue to make stupid errors.

I'm replying to myself at this point, but if anyone stumbles on this thread and was as silly as I was, I managed to get the phone working again by using the image posted on this thread:

Sadly, the recovery is still messed up - but the phone itself boots and is rooted and that's good enough for me for one day. Time for me to stop being a monkey with flashing and be happy with a working phone for at least 24 hours.

I'm stuck in the same place as you. I was stuck in that odin mode, so I used odin to flash MF3 when I had the 4.3 MK2. That of course failed and I tried to recover on Kies and that didn't work. What'd you do to get it working?

If you go over to the thread in my last post and grab that recovery.img file, you can use heimdall to flash it. I expected this to restore the stock recovery and let me do a reset, but it didn't. What it did so is make the phone work exactly as it did right before it was stuck in odin mode. I'm not sure why that is... someone more intelligent than me probably knows. Like I said before, my recovery still isn't working however. At the moment, I'm going to be happy with a working phone until someone either
a) posts the MK2 files to flash with odin... then I can just start over
b) or someone figures out how to unlock the bootloader...

Thanks, I found that thread after I had already gotten the phone working (no recovery), and I was a little afraid to mess around with it any more. But with your words of encouragement I went ahead and did it anyway. Now I have a working phone and working recovery rooted on 4.3 MK2.
