ok, so currently i am on flyx 2.2 based on teh leak. i would like to update to the official or a rom based off it. so i am assuming i have to sbf to 2.1, ota to 2.2, then flash a custom rom? do i have to sbf? i thought i read somewhere it would be possible to update leaked 2.2 to official with a custom rom. so yeah, just before i get started i wanted to make sure i was doing the right things and no unnecessary steps.
thanks for the help.
really? 56 views and no one knows? i know it's not the smartest question, and really i am just trying to confirm that i need to sbf to get to 2.2?
Can do it both ways but one you go official you can not flash back to 2.1.
I personally suggest flashing then getting the ota. After that apply which ever rom you like. I'm sure others have diffrent opinions.
Good luck either way

I realize I could probably find the answer to this question by digging around but just really quickly can someone tell me... if I have rooted my atrix and am running on ginngerblur... am I able to just download the update and install it with no consequences(besides losing root which sux ass)... because I am seeing all this RSD lite and soft bricking stuff which I am not familiar with at all.. so with a simple yes or no can someone please tell me if it is safe to just download the update thank you.. VERY much in advance...
yes it is safe to update, but it can/will be unsafe if in the future you try to downgrade. This is just the way the new update works is you go for the official update you will lose the ability to downgrade. If that does not bother you then go for it.
I think gingerblur adds mods for the hdmi mirror and webtop with out a dock. So I dont think it will update. It will probably fail to install. Could be wrong though because new update include webtop etc...

I think I read that the over the air method won't work..
Yes, if you have a PC just go this link and follow intructions... Only downfall after update to the GB is YOU WILL NOT ABLE to DOWNGRADE by any MOTO standard (RSD/MSU) but if you unlock the bootloader you can do what ever you want go back and foward....

You need a clean 4.1.83 to ensure being trouble free with the OTA.
ANY mods can cause the upgrade to fail. Motorola has said this over and over.
As stated above, I would do the hard wire update. I created a thread with a link here"

Thanks a lot for the answers guys....that's why I love this community .... and j think I will wait a bit to upgrade... I have gingerblur it is great for now... I don't think I'm really missing anything....tho
I was so anxious to get a G2 Gingerbread update, but after the 2.3.4 update from T-Mobile, I was TOTALLY turned off. The GPS Did not work, and Speakerphone A2DP for Navigation and music crapped out along withmany of my apps as well. I worked with TMO but no joy... I did the (pretty hairy) downgrade an reinstall of Froyo, and all is well again......... EXCEPT the Damned "System Update Available" keeps nagging to install. Is there any way I can have this stop trying to get installed and have it not keep getting in my face ?
Wanted it and had to wait till this month to get the OTA, now it won't get outa my face..... Can't win man!
Thanks guys for all the good NFO on this Forum. It Rocks!
Hope there is something I can do to fix this problem,
hav u rooted ur phone?
and i believe ur in the wrong g2 forum?
m confused wat OTA?
jus flash a different rom?
This is the wrong type of forum (post in QandA or something) and for the totally wrong phone. I'm pretty sure the G2 is an Desire Z (you know, with that hardware keyboard). So post elsewhere
Hey all, well I wanna buy defy+ but have read all over the places that defy+ can't be downgraded. What if I installed ICS/CM9, will be be able to get back to normal sbf?
Am not noob, but confused, also tell me more things that I must know

can you link me to the thread, or some procedures. How can I get back to the stock ?
thanks
If you install ice cream sandwich, there won't be any troubles because it's not an actual upgrade (in the sense that only /system dir and the kernel will change). Thus, you just have to flash the right sbf in order to go back to defy+ official android build.
Use RSD Lite to flash a sbf.

Direct Answer: You can go ahead and buy the Defy+.
You should be able to use Gingerbread with absolutely no problems. And there is no point in downgrading to Froyo.
And once, ICS is out, you may work with either Gingerbread or ICS.
PS: Motorola just released the entire source code for Gingerbread.

Hey man
Try the 2.3.4 GB from my post MILS2_U6_4.1-22. Is faster , runs smooth, is perfect , but with some wifi router it has a problem; keeps disconnecting in a loop. There is a solution to edit some file and quit the N wifi standard, for G standard, if you want.
Flashing, works without glitch or error (RSD Lite).
Drains less battery power, you will see that.
Looks good.
........ not sure if U CAN DO IT , as you already are on 2.3.4 .... have no idea ,... someone more experienced will know that

I saw that thread, but I have question. If I haven't made any nandroid backup of froyo, can I still downgrade? Maybe some ppl have backup and can give me it? Is it possible?

I want to downgrade because after update it doesn't see sim card and can't connect to network(radio don't work). And I'm sure that it all worked(before update).. Not sure if it isn't some hardware trouble But I saw guy which had the same trouble as me, but when he returned to stock(from CM) he was back again with signal and seeing sim card.
Thank You in advance
